I've received a few messages asking for my thoughts about the latest OnK chapters, but I'm sorry guys, to be honest, I'm giving this manga as little thought as possible for the time being 😂

It seems to me that this handful of chapters will best be read as an ensemble. Right now the pacing is all about Aka misleading the readers just to create cliffhangers and shock value (Aqua wants to kill Kamiki! No actually, Ai wants to save him so Aqua won't kill him! Kamiki is evil! No actually, he's just misguided, Nino is evil! ACTUALLY, Nino is just misguided and Kamiki is evil! Aqua may have finally chosen to live! No actually, Aqua is still planning to die!), and personally, I feel like thinking too hard about any of it before Aka gets to the point isn't really worth it.

He will stop his shenanigans and get somewhere eventually, likely (hopefully) by the end of the volume. So in the meantime, I'm going to take it easy and just let the man get there.

Luffy it at his freest in G5. He is overflowing with happiness as he uses his abilities to save and protect people. Why wouldn’t he be happy? We already had many arcs where Luffy was serious and even distraught when he couldn’t protect those he cared about. Those days are over and he now has the strength he always wanted. Let him be fucking happy. If you want to be miserable go read pre-TS and cry.

Now let’s be real. If you had all the powers in the world wouldn’t you do some wacky shit? I would be causing chaos and fucking around with anyone I could because it’s FUN. The Kaido fight had me smiling at my tv like a stupid idiot. I felt like I was a kid again watching Looney Tunes again (which I grew up on and loved dearly) Maybe these zoomer fucks have just never watched a cartoon in their life because their heads are too buried in their ipads or playing fortnite . Or flip side these people are just sad, lonely millennials and genx who are so dead inside they forgot what it’s like to be silly and joyful.

Also, the final island is called LAUGHtale. Rodger, King of the Pirates LAUGHED when he found the one piece. This whole beautiful decades spanning tale is ground in LAUGHTER. Don’t try to sully that just because you haven’t laughed in years and you hate your family and dead end job. Let others be happy. Try and be happy yourself. Go ahead, just laugh until you cry. You will be amazed at how good it makes you feel.

Have you seen the theory regarding Rukia's origins? I just heard of it, and I think it'll definitely be explored in the hell arc (when/if we get it), especially because Ichika was the first person to notice the hell hollows?? And since Renji didn't see them, we can only assume this could come from Rukia? Anyway, it's mostly based on the differences in how her name is written on chapter covers compared to all the other shinigami (used nanao for comparison, but everyone else has the brush stroke writing). Kubo even mentioned this in klub outside as something intentional!

yes, i've seen this!!! i haven't been able to stop thinking about it since he said that on klub, but idk if it has anything to do with what you said about ichika, though? the only reason she spotted them first seems to be because a) ichigo and renji are bickering with their backs turned to the hollows, while she's at an angle where she can see them, and b) the reason renji didn't see them/sense them seems to be because the hollows' spiritual pressure was undetectable

it's unclear what exactly rukia got up to in the years between hisana abandoning her and her meeting renji and the other boys, but it looks like she'd already been calling herself "rukia" by the time she met them, so my leading theory is that she chose that name for herself

but it's unclear how or when or why she would do this and why that name in particular. i've always been curious about this blank period in her life and how many questions about her are still unanswered (at least to me).

we also get a birthday for her, which is interesting because, as hitsugaya notes, most people in rukongai don't exactly have birthdays, since they were never born, but in the same chapter we do get rangiku and gin deciding that rangiku's birthday is the day they met, so it's possible that a lot of rukongai "birthdays" are really just days that hold significant meaning to them, so what exactly is significant about january 14th to rukia? granted, this is from her character sketch at the end of volume 1, so it's possible this is a thoughtless "error" that kubo might have made while he was still figuring out the soul society world-building but idk! these are definitely questions i have and the lack of answers frustrate/excite me. i do think kubo's telling the truth about the brush strokes being significant though because he usually owns up to things he did by accident or things he wasn't thinking too deeply about, so i do tend to believe him when he says it's intentional but WHAT does it mean, though?

Just read your new work and as much as I adore anything you write I must confess seeing the past jonsa tag hurt me. I just adore them and have been patiently awaiting for the day the jonsa inspires you again! I hope this doesn’t offend you, it was meant to be a compliment. I’m just awful at wording, like I meant your my go to jonsa author of choice so seeing that tag just left me with feels that your moving on but I know experimenting and dabbling in other ships are great for authors!! I don’t know I’m just in my feels I guess?? So many talented Jonsa authors have become in-active or deleting their works, discontinuing, etc and while I know it just part of life and I’m glad some still continue to write or are SELF PUBLISHING!!! (Although sadly they won’t share their official works-I hunt it down one day) I just feel an odd pang in my chest when another one goes down like dang I just wanna hold you all and never let go. I am your to-go Jonsa author? That like made my day, so thank you! Also don't worry, you are neither pathetic, not have your embarassed yourself. You have just shared in our common love for Jonsa, which I still believe will be the open endgame of the books, tbh, and I could not appreciate you more for it.

Of course I love experimenting and for a long while I have been uninspired in Jonsa, mostly because I have been hyperfixated on Aemondsa (which I think Jon and Aemond share so much traits it's ridiculous), but I have not forgotten all my wips for Jonsa, to which I mean to return in the Summer (I am a perfectionist, procrastinator so unless I am on the wave of hyperfixation I am never quite satisfied enough with my work to share it, but the updates shall come soon).

You know what else shall come soon, because my muse actually is never satisfied with just one story and just one ship at time?

A new Jonsa story I have been keeping under wraps, a season 7/8 rewrite with specks of book canon as well.

Look, I'll even leave the edit I've done for it, and the summary. I plan to get it out by the end of June with the first chapter, so prepare your popcorns, seatbelts and fav comf food because I'll be back on my Jonsa shit again. And it's gonna be epic!

As soon as she’s ready, she goes back to the living room, finding Val’s Yellow Pages, flipping through the book with a tad too much energy. “You’re not gonna call a taxi, are you?” Dale’s voice comes from behind her. She keeps on flipping, as it is exactly what she intends to do. “We’re going back our separate ways, aren’t we.” “Helen.” She hates the way he says her name, because even at their most estranged and most fucked up, it still gets under her skin, deep where it hurts. When she looks behind her and their gazes meet, it hurts, too. Because despite still being red rimmed from the tears he cried earlier, his eyes are once again bordering on empty, contrasting so sharply with the way he’d looked at her, less than twenty minutes ago, when she disillusioned herself into thinking maybe she’d not completely lost him. “We can drive back together.” He says the words quietly, and not as flatly as she’s come to expect from him. Helen swallows hard, past that lump that keeps obstructing her throat. “You should stay,” she responds just as quietly, her voice low. “You don’t have to leave just because I’m going.” His eyes aren’t so empty, now, redder and wetter, too, able to see his mask fissuring, hearing the way he’s controlling his breathing. “I can’t stay here,” he says thickly, his eyes filling up with new tears Helen knows he’s got no control over. It becomes clear to her that his detached attitude is a façade, a pale imitation of the way he’s cut himself off from everything these last few months; that it wouldn’t take much at all for him to break all over again. She knows his triggers as well as he knows hers. She cannot bring herself to do it, won’t force a conversation he’s unwilling to have, not here in his dead mother’s house. Already her anger has fizzled away, shame having joined the mix of emotions squeezing at her heart. She can’t and shouldn’t expect him to be able to meet her halfway right now, under these circumstances, when he’s grieving and struggling to hold himself together.

Mood board for my latest project. Little bit of it below the cut.

You eat the lunch you packed and pull off your sweater, the noon sun warming you up enough to not need it, at least for the moment. You putt along to a new spot and try fishing again, this time catching three good sized fish. Surprising, considering the time of day, but sometimes you get lucky. You're thinking about heading back home when you spot a flash of white under the water.

You grab your camera, determined to be ready. And then a grey shape launches out of the water and into your boat, nearly capsizing it. The white orca sluices through the water next to your boat a moment later, regarding you disdainfully with one bloodshot eye. He flicks his tail as he dives again, soaking you and your passenger.

Your seal friend makes himself comfortable at the prow of the boat, entirely too pleased with himself.

"You're on thin ice, mister!" You tell him, turning back the way you'd come. Thanks to him you missed your photo and nearly went for a swim in deep water. You're pretty sure he couldn't help you out of that situation even if he wanted to, especially with a hunter swimming just below. You certainly don't want four inch teeth biting you in half.

Of course, you don't want to see your friend get eaten in front of you either. You know its the way of the ocean, but he's your little buddy.

The white orca cuts across your path again. You stop your engine, heart hammering, and grab your camera. He disappears into the depths for a moment, and then jumps a little ways away. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he was showing off. You get several quick snaps that you know will be gorgeous— Water droplets catching the sun, his ghostly white body stark against the backdrop of the dark ocean. You grin at the seal, and yelp when something thumps the bottom of your boat, rocking it harshly.

Then the white orca (he needs a name, so you land on Ghost) surfaces next to you, terrifyingly close, and spits water at the seal.

“Holy shit,” you breathe, adjusting your lens for the close contact, camera shutter clicking away as you shoot pictures. Ghost eyes you, and then spits water a second time. The seal looks deeply offended, but not concerned, even with his hunter bobbing in the water a few feet away. “Aren’t you a pretty boy.”

He is pretty. A juvenile, maybe, now that you see him up close— He’s a bit small for an orca, but he’s all alone out here, no pod to speak of, and a juvenile wouldn’t survive on it’s own. As if he can hear your compliment, he creaks at you.

The seal barks back. He seems offended by Ghost’s presence. Understandable, since Ghost was trying to eat him earlier. You get a few funny snaps of the two of them regarding each other over the rim of the boat, having a conversation that you have no way of understanding. You feel a bit insane. A bit like you’re going to wake up laying in the bottom of your boat any minute, and this will all be a funny dream.
