First book of the year down! City of Songs by Anthony Ryan. The third book in the Seven Swords novella series. Every Anthony Ryan book I read makes me like him more and more - this one went in a very Perpetual Oratorio of Davia Pledge direction - iykyk

i was looking through my screenshots folder for something and was reminded how many layers of beautiful self-indulgence in idk paratext FatT is on:
Sa’Ferna-ta-Fera: Translated loosely to “Talking with Ferna the Cunning,” Sa’Ferna-ta-Fera is an approximate transcription of a long, free-flowing conversation between an unnamed scholar and the pre-Panic Carpana sage, Ferna. The transcriber, a bastard child of a Great House of Aldomina who used his connection to Ferna’s tribe to initiate the process, hoped to capture the wisdom of the sage and rewrite it as a dissertation on the folk knowledge of Sangfielle. When Ferna convinced him to instead attempt to publish the transcript as-is, the bastard scholar found that publishers in both the First and Third Cantons refused to print it.

So in general I've been a huge fan of Paul Shapera and his work since high-school (2014), particularly the new Albion cycle; this song works so well for Davia Pledge please listen to it I'm begging you.

Note
what are your top five fatt npcs!
(alphabetical to avoid agonizing over an order):
AO Rooke
Emmanuel Aracia La Salle (most emotionally mature man in hieron)
Hector Hu
Red Jack
Samol
shout-out to Corrasian, who i have an awful inexplicable crush on (and who will be on this short list if we hear more of them)
special mention to Orth (who doesn’t quite count as an NPC) and davia pledge (whose story i find very compelling but whose character is pretty neutral to me)
othesr high contenders were: Declan’s Corrective, uklan tel, mike truk, kent brighton, cascabel, achilles apollo, le loose goose lady, librarian that tells the kids that ghosts will get you
(i actually forgot that the samsams were npcs and kept thinking finnegan hands was an npc… all mixed up)
edit: i just remembered Joylon exists? and alekest and … there are too many, too many.
