I don't know if anybody has a Spoutible account, but there's been a huge data leak
Only heard of this site a few days ago and only heard about this happening just last night, but if you signed up for this site, you're personal info (e-mail, phone, etc) is at risk.
I bring this up as I see all the user-unfriendly practices going on with Twitter (as an outside observer) and people looking for alternatives.
Anyway, did a bit more digging and apparently this Christopher Bouzy guy bought the source code and barely changed anything making it so that if you know what to put in the site's url you can pretty much access any user's data. Also heard he doxxed someone who was trying to warn people of this situation (if I'm remembering correctly, plus he's been in some other shady stuff, but I'm not about to get into any of that).
There was also apparent an issue where initially you had to sign up using video verification showing both your face and your ID or passport, but from what I know it's been removed.
Anyway, here's a video kind of reiteration what I've just said (and probably explains things better than I did).
youtube
While I'm at it, I'll say this: with all these new sites popping up everywhere you probably shouldn't be jumping on day one, especially if there's been little to no transparency from the creators/owners.
Also, always read the TOS. i know it's a chore and full of confusing legal bs, but you could literally be consenting to something you don't agree with (like Cohost's weird wording terms on user content and ownership).
Please share this anywhere you can.
Also, I really shouldn't have to say this, but my post has nothing to do with politics. If you're not a fan of the guys in the video, fine. I literally have not idea who they are other than the fact one is a lawyer and that the guy they're interviewing is a programmer. Some things are more important, like not having you identity stolen and life ruined because of it.
EDIT: Spelling error

About the Spoutible Data Hack, It's All Slander
This thread explains more than I could, but basically, no data was actually leaked or sold & the security hole was already patched. The dude who made the video talking about it is sending in a SLAPP suit against the owner of Spoutible. If there WERE security concerns, they were immediately taken care of, this isn't a Hive Social situation.
Moral of the story, wait until some actual security experts (for example, the group that pointed out the security vulnerabilities of Hive) point things that are concerning, not a bunch of far right grifters.

Navigating The Murky Waters of Data Abuse
Gibu Mathew, VP and GM APAC, Zoho Corp When data abuse is discussed, people immediately think of data breaches or data leaks. While data privacy and data security are interrelated, the two are not the same. Data breaches are easier to identify, and during the pandemic, Interpol found a surge in cybercrime and data theft throughout the Southeast Asia region. It is no surprise that findings from…

Hello again, Rotomblr.
Let me say, I am very impressed at the amount of reception my prior poll got, I believe it’ll be good if I continue doing this.
For my second week poll, considering recent events with an old friend of mine.
(Reminder, I, nor anyone else, can see who responds in a poll. Respond truthfully, please.)
Feel free to answer, reblogging with an explanation garners more attention, which garners more answers. Reminder this is about your current region, though if you have anything to say about a prior region that’s also fine.

Here at UBA, we pride ourselves on being transparent with all of our viewers. We consider you part of our family. Which is why I need to let you know that certain things may come to light, personal things that were never meant to be shared. While all of our lives are increasingly public, each of us has the right to our privacy. And this network will continue fighting for that right, no matter the cost. UBA as made a decision not to pay the ransom demanded by the individuals who have stolen the private data of thousands of dedicated employees.

Spoutible is leaking again.
So, you probably don't remember me mentioning this site (or if you've followed me after the fact, may not even heard of it).
As a refresher, it's one on the many Twitter alternatives that popped up after Muskrat took over.
It's also a site that after it's public launch was found to be leaving user data vulnerable. Well, another vulnerability was found recently almost exactly one year after the first one.
I still recommend you avoid this site, and if you do have an account, you may want to delete it, because the fact that this happened twice in less that two years without anyone even trying to force their way in means either they're not taking site security seriously or they're incompetent.
And before someone says 'but data breaches happen all the time,' it was not a data breach, but a leak.
To quote this article from the site UpGuard,
Data leaks are usually caused by organizations accidentally exposing sensitive data through security vulnerabilities, Such incidents are not initiated by cyberattackers. Data breaches, on the other hand, are usually the result of a cybercriminal's persistence to compromise sensitive resources.
TL;DR, if you use Spoutible, your data is very much at risk.

How Canadians Can Access Google Bard: A Guide with VPN Tips
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/how-canadians-can-access-google-bard-a-guide-with-vpn-tips/
How Canadians Can Access Google Bard: A Guide with VPN Tips
Google Bard, one of the latest AI chatbots from Google, has gained significant attention for its ability to provide up-to-date information and answer complex queries using the latest data. Unlike its main competitor, ChatGPT, which only has data up to April 2023, Google Bard can access real-time information and summarize web content. Despite its advantages, Canadians face a roadblock: Google Bard is currently unavailable in Canada due to regulatory uncertainties. However, there is a way around this—using a VPN.
What is Google Bard?
Google Bard is an AI chatbot that was launched in early 2023, following the success of ChatGPT. This tool is designed to assist users in a wide range of tasks, from answering questions with the most recent information to summarizing web pages. Its ability to stay current with the latest data makes it particularly useful for research and other applications where up-to-date knowledge is crucial.
Why is Google Bard Unavailable in Canada?
The unavailability of Google Bard in Canada stems from “regulatory uncertainty,” although Google has not provided a detailed explanation. This is likely related to the ongoing disputes over Canada’s Online News Act, which requires tech companies like Google to compensate news outlets for content shared on their platforms. This act has already led to Facebook banning news sharing in Canada, and Google seems to have taken a cautious approach by restricting access to Bard in the country.
Can You Access Google Bard with a VPN?
Yes, Canadians can access Google Bard by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN allows you to connect to the internet through a server located in another country, effectively bypassing the regional restrictions placed on services like Google Bard. By connecting to a server in the United States or another country where Bard is available, you can use the chatbot without any issues.
How to Choose a VPN for Accessing Google Bard
Not all VPNs are created equal, and choosing the right one is crucial for a seamless experience with Google Bard. Here are some tips:
Avoid Free VPNs: Free VPNs often come with limitations such as restricted bandwidth, slower speeds, and a smaller number of servers. They may also pose security risks, which is why it’s recommended to opt for a premium VPN service.
Speed Matters: To ensure smooth use of Google Bard, choose a VPN that offers high-speed connections. VPNs with the WireGuard protocol or its variants, like NordLynx, are known for their fast performance.
Server Availability: A VPN with thousands of servers in multiple countries will provide more options and better speeds. This is crucial for maintaining a fast and reliable connection to Google Bard.
Security Features: Look for VPNs with advanced security features like a kill switch, which prevents data leaks if the VPN connection drops, and obfuscated servers, which hide the fact that you are using a VPN. This can be particularly useful if you face stringent restrictions.
Customer Support: 24/7 customer support is a valuable feature, especially if you encounter issues or have questions while using the VPN.
Recommended VPN: NordVPN
One of the top choices for accessing Google Bard is NordVPN. It offers a range of features that make it ideal for this purpose:
Advanced Security: NordVPN uses AES-256 encryption, making your data highly secure.
Fast Connections: With over 5,000 servers in 60 countries, including options like NordLynx for faster speeds, NordVPN ensures a quick and stable connection.
Specialty Servers: NordVPN offers features like obfuscated servers and a kill switch, enhancing your security and bypassing restrictions effectively.
Threat Protection: This feature blocks malicious websites, ads, and trackers, adding an extra layer of security.
Meshnet: NordVPN’s Meshnet allows users to connect devices through encrypted private tunnels, enabling secure file sharing and collaboration.
Other recommended options include Express VPN and Surfshark. Other options are available in our list of the best VPNs for Canadian residents.
Conclusion
While Google Bard is currently unavailable in Canada due to regulatory challenges, Canadians can still access this powerful AI tool by using a reliable VPN service like NordVPN. With the right VPN, you can bypass regional restrictions, maintain your online security, and enjoy the full capabilities of Google Bard.
