Probably not going to be as active lately, but this time it's different; gonna be working behind the scenes and unfortunately social media is really distracting in that regard.
Kinda funny though that I get a creative resurgence right at the tail end of last year.

I am thinking about fan fiction writers, but anyone who writes any kind of fiction can answer. (As far as I’m aware, non-fiction is usually written in the past tense - but if I’m wrong do let me know!)
If you like, explain why in the tags!
When I was young I gathered that all serious works of fiction were written in the past tense (past tense third person to be precise) so that is what i did when I started writing. However my mind was blown by the power and immediacy of Margaret Atwood writing in the present tense so I started to experiment with it myself, and now i strongly favour it. I get the impression that past is still the most commonly used, but I’m prepared to be surprised!
Please share!

I dunno, I always imagined him adopting a stray kitten from a battlefield or something like that.
Then again, I doubt he'd be too picky as far as pets/companions.
I think it’s sad that X never got a little animal companion. All his siblings have their own associated little animal friend why doesn’t he get one. I think he’d really enjoy owning a bunny.

So, there's a couple of issues with Bluesky you may want to know about
First has to do with moderation and how loose it is.
Second, there's a scraping issue that everyone should be aware of.
To fellow artists, please Glaze and Nightshade your work.

In depth description:
A monthly art prompt event spanning through 2025. You will get a prompt and have one month to draw it.
Sometimes, you will see a gimmick. That gimmick is the tasks you must include in your drawing. For example: if the gimmick says to use 5 colors, you must draw with 5 colors (of your choice). I will post my art along with the prompt.
If you need help on understanding the gimmick or the prompt, feel free to look at them. If you have further questions or still don't understand the prompt, DM me.

I've recently noticed a lot more posts begging people to leave comments if they like a fic. There's a reason.
I've been writing fic across various platforms for nearly two decades. I started when I was 12 (writing self insert of course) on fanfiction.net. I have written for big fandoms and small, popular ships and rarepairs. I have been a hermit and I have been a big name writer.
And I have never, in all those years, seen so little comments on fics. Things have really changed, and it's honestly pretty discouraging.
We aren't tiktok creators. We don't churn out loads of content hoping one of them finds an audience. We aren't working an algorithm.
Most writers don't write for praise, they write because they love writing. But we are still human. We want to know if our work means anything to anyone. We want to know that the time and effort it took was worth it. We want other people to find our work, which if they search by comments, gets harder and harder.
If you liked a fic, if you want that author to write more, please leave a comment, however short. Two words means the world when you know someone took the time to say them.

also we fucked up as a society the moment we started telling teens and aspiring artists to conflate being an artist with building a brand as if the two things are inextricable. the name of the game if you want to share your art is to work a job and sell yourself as aesthetizied content. back in my day we could just POST SHIT. to deviantart! what the fuck!
#agree with this#though i do think there's nothing wrong with profiting from your work#at the end of the day though you should be doing art for yourself

This is specifically for blogs showing real, uncensored porn.
Also, as a reminder, do not actually visit these pages. Report and block only.
Also of note, I'll likely not be going back to check if these accounts have been deleted/banned; it's not something I think I can handle at this point.

Oh, wow! I haven't posted anything since last year! :P
I will never (probably) stop using that joke.
So, finally decided to try my hand at digital painting again. Problem with it is that my screen calibration is off and I can't really fix it because it's an issue with the screen itself (older laptop). Either way, hope it doesn't look too off.
X and XII both wish you a Happy 2025!
Oh, and me too. :)

Friendly reminder that it's okay to take a break from your projects every once in a while.
It's always nice to just take a day or two to step away from the screen and relax. Sometimes, it can even give you new ideas for your projects too.

Hi, sorry to bother. I checked your FAQ and stuff but I couldn't see anything about this so I thought I'd ask.
I want to start making plushes- there's kids in the family, and I want to make them dinosaurs. But like, I don't find any patterns for reasonably accurate dinosaurs, so I think I'm going to need to draft the patterns myself.
Do you have any tips on how to start doing that? Like, taking an idea and turning it into a pattern?
Hi there! I've been asked similar questions a few times, though they tend to get lost in my bad tagging system. Here's a few I've found: Beginner Plush Maker Tips How To Start Patterning Your Own Plushies

Creativity Performance Review
Stealing this from @pennzance but doing mostly an artists' take since that's my main thing.
So, yeah, year started out okay; while don't think I was on any sort of roll, I think I put out a few fun things.
Then the end of February came and with that d@nm data sale.
Had it not been for that, I'd probably posted more.
I did however do a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff and did work on some fics. Also tried out some other art software, started learning Inkscape, and made a website mock-up.
And while it didn't look like it, things did start ramping back up early September. Come October, I started sharing my work again and also started making use of my Cara* account.
Admittedly, did not get as much as I would have liked but can't change that as even now, that funk still is there somewhat.
On the plus side, writing this out actually made me realize I did more than I thought even if it's not evident here or anywhere else I post.
Even then, really hoping to get more done than I did this year, but only time will tell.
Anyway, I'm gonna through the recommendation that you do this too as you also might surprise yourself. :)
Oh, and check out the original post I got this idea from.
*Seriously, If you want to stuff higher effort work that the silly scribbles I usually post here, go check out that account.
