I think the only time so far Protocol or TMA has genuinely 'scared' me was, in episode 13 'Futures' one of the first things we here about Darrien is how:

"I'm not a bad person all right."

Darrien who we get to hear tell his tale from his own mouth, we get to see just how wrong this self-assessment is never taking any accountability for who he is.

Then in episode 18 'Solo Work' we get to hear from a different Darrien —except Chester is spinning this yarn— one who knows how angry he can be. But then he meets an even worse version of himself who has terrible skeletons in his basement. He assumes this old worse Darriens life—

and then Chester's voice becomes more and more robotic as he speaks—

"I'm really not a bad person."

And that's what scared me, the feeling that someone who shouldn't know you've heard something repeating it back to you, but it's wrong the voice is robotic and it's not just a repetition of what he said it's a reinforcing of a statement that someone made from an entirely different world at an entirely different time.

For the first time it felt like something knew I was listening, it wasn't as direct as some of the audience callouts in TMA, it may not have even been intentional. But I felt watched. Because it was so small, such a tiny insignificant change to show that he's really still the same person deep down.

you realize of course this is why they gave us fucking canon SE03!jon and SE03!martin in the same goddamn room in this episode, right. it was so we would all completely forget about the statement header. and by the gods did it work on me.

okay weird tmagp 17 thing I noticed and this may just be typical magnus being bad with names (see: michael) but wasn't the guy in tmagp 13 also called darrien? so do we have two (technically three if you count the dead one) darriens now? is it the same darrien? are we going to have like seventeen darriens running around by the end of this podcast? I need to know!
