Dark! Evan Buckley Masterlist
Summary: (Y/n) knows how protective Evan is around her and their daughter and she knows he worries. But when their daughter isn't well, Evan isn't too happy to learn they've gone to the hospital. Without him.
Enjoy.

Tumblr media
"No! I w- I want daddy."
(Y/n) sighed and let her head drop down while her hands clamped down on her hips.
Of course she did.
Of course Tilly wanted Evan; she always did when she wasn't well. If she was sick she clung to Evan like he was her lifeline, her saviour. And right now, the toddler really wasn't well. She had been throwing up throughout the night and now she had a cough to rival all coughs. She couldn't speak without croaking and gasping and her nose and cheeks had turned a very dark shade of red.
(Y/n) tried one last time to reach out for her daughter, but she pursed her lips when Tilly shook her head. She curled up in the middle of her parent's bed, pulling on the fresh pile of clothes on the end of the bed that Evan had got ready for when he came out the shower.
The toddler pulled on the button up shirt until it was draped around her like a blanket and she nuzzled into the material. Something that she had gotten from (Y/n) who loved to wear Evan's clothes, especially when they kept his scent and aftershave. She hoped Tilly wouldn't cough or sneeze on the shirt or it would have to go back in the wash.
"Did someone call me?" Evan's voice rung through the air and (Y/n) twisted to look over her shoulder.
She watched him walk into their room, a towel tied around his waist and one hand knotted in his damp curls. The way he squinted one eye with a lopsided smile made (Y/n)'s heart jump.
She pointed to the bundle hidden beneath his shirt, watching the way Evan's expression softened when he tried to spot their daughter.
He hummed quietly and reached out for his boxers from the bed and started to get changed. His eyes stayed focused on Tilly, waiting to see if she would move and uncover herself because she knew he was in the room. But she stayed bundled up as Evan buttoned up his trousers and looped his belt tight.
"I think that's mine, princess." He pressed his knees into the edge of the bed and planted one hand down near Tilly's head.
He leaned his weight on his left hand while his right hand reached out for his shirt. And he lifted it up to reveal his little girl, huddled up in a ball in the middle of the bed. She tried to keep hold of his shirt but when he tugged it free from her, a loud shriek left her lips, followed by a croaky wail.
"She wants you," (Y/n) murmured and squeezed Evan's arm as she moved to walk past him. She pressed her lips to his shoulder before she tried to walk out the room. She could start breakfast if Evan could sort Tilly for now; they both knew she would only do as he told her when she was in this mood.
(Y/n) felt Evan's hand weave around to squeeze her hip and he ducked his head down to attach his lips to her neck. He pressed a searing kiss to her neck and squeezed her hip again before he let go and watched her head out the room.
Once she was gone, Evan slid his shirt onto his shoulders but he didn't button it up yet.
He held his arms out in her direction and tilted his head to one side, waiting while Tilly looked at him as if she didn't know what he was doing.
"I thought you wanted me?" That was all it took for Tilly to shuffle over and wrap her arms around his neck. She burrowed her face into his bare chest and jumped until Evan got the hint and scooped her up.
He settled her in the middle of his chest and glided one hand up and down her back while he leaned his cheek on top of her head.
With his lips pressed to the top of Tilly's head, Evan turned around and slowly made his way out of the room. It was going to be hard for Evan to go to work today when Tilly was clinging to him like this. He didn't like leaving her when she wasn't well.
Once he headed downstairs, Evan made his way into the kitchen with his lips pressing continuous kisses against Tilly's head. It seemed to be doing the trick in calming her down but it was also making Evan regret having to go to work. His little girl wasn't well, she needed him.
He smiled into the top of her head when he looked over at (Y/n) and watched her mill about the kitchen like she didn't know they were standing behind her.
Before the girls, Evan's whole life had been centred around the station and his work. Work had been his main driving force, the thing that gave him purpose and the station gave him a family. Meeting (Y/n) had changed those dynamics. Evan had an extended family; a family that was his and that depended on him. A family he came home to after work and didn't have to go into dire situations to be around them.
Evan stopped being desperate to go to work or to prove himself and put himself at risk. He became desperate to come home and be with his girls.
He hadn't noticed what (Y/n) had been wearing when he came out the shower, but as he walked over to her, he took in (Y/n)'s attire. She was wearing leggings and a button up top with the top buttons undone, giving him a great view.
Sometimes it was strange to look at (Y/n) and not see her wearing his clothes. When she was pregnant, Evan had been so used to seeing her wander around in his stuff and it drove him wild. Technically just looking at (Y/n) when she was pregnant made Evan insane.
God knows he loved Tilly and that she and (Y/n) were his world, but he was already aching to have another kid.
"Okay?" He curved his free arm around her waist and kissed the back of her head while (Y/n) stopped making them all a drink so she could lean her head back on his shoulder.
"Course." (Y/n) leaned up so she could kiss the junction at the top of his neck just beneath his jaw. She knew by the shiver she felt coursing through his skin that Evan was going to have a hard time getting to work today.
Her hand moved to pat his chest while she turned around so she was facing him. She kissed his neck again and darted her eyes down to Tilly who was snuffling, but at least she was breathing a bit better. And (Y/n) smiled into his neck when she felt Evan pressing down into her and his hand left her hip so he could reach up into the cupboard above them.
He grabbed the Calpol and the thermometer, smothering a grin when he felt (Y/n) kissing his neck and nipping at his skin.
She looked down at Tilly again before she turned around to finish making them each a drink.
It was endearing to see how attached Tilly was to Evan. It had been that way since (Y/n) found out she was pregnant. Evan had been glued to (Y/n)'s hip and had been there every step of the way, and when Tilly was born, that was it. She was the apple of his eye.
Whenever she cried, Evan was there cuddling her and calming her down. When she was sick, like now, Evan would give her medicine and hold her as she cried, he would let her sleep on his chest all night if it would make her feel better. He had all the time and the patience in the world for both his girls and it made Tilly attached to his hip. There was no way (Y/n) could feel jealous or pushed out when Evan was just the same with her.
She always knew if Tilly wasn't well she would run to Evan, that was the way it always was and (Y/n) was fine with that. Because when Evan was at work, (Y/n) was the parent. He worked random shifts, sometimes nights and quite a lot of days, so (Y/n) had Tilly to herself during those times. It was only natural and fair that when Evan was home, Tilly was attached to him.
When she was finished making their drinks, (Y/n) looked back at Tilly who was still snuffling and breathing heavy, but at least she was calm. (Y/n) leaned across to kiss her daughter's temple and she leaned against Evan's arm as if he were propping her up so she could cosy up into them both and smile at their poorly girl.
But her heart jumped in her throat when Evan's free hand reached out to hold her chin and he tilted her head up in his direction. It made him look seven foot tall with the way he nudged her head back and how he stared down at her with those dark blue eyes.
"Don't I get one?" The possessive tone in his voice made (Y/n)'s knees practically give way and she held her breath when Evan's thumb brushed across her lower lip.
She waited patiently for him to swoop down and steal a kiss he so clearly wanted from her. His lips were surprisingly warm but the force behind them was blinding and (Y/n) felt her head wobble when Evan eventually let go of her chin and released her bruised lips from his touch.
She rolled her eyes and bit back a smile when she felt Evan's hand against her bum as she grabbed the drinks and walked over to the table.
"Okay princess, let's take a look at you, hm?" Evan looked down at Tilly who was strangely quiet and it made him wonder if his little girl had finally started to nod back off to sleep. But when he looked down at her, he saw her eyes were barely open and she was biting her thumb.
He followed after (Y/n) and sat down at the kitchen table beside the window. He leaned back, adjusting Tilly on his lap so she was sat down rather than huddled up like a baby hedgehog against his chest.
With everything beside him on the table, Evan kept one arm around Tilly's waist and moved his other hand to feel her back and then her chest. She was warm, but she wasn't hot to the touch. Although her cheeks were flushed and she was lethargic.
Tilly was only going to nursery three days a week, but at this rate she wouldn't be going in tomorrow or the day after.
"Let's check your temperature." He grabbed the thermometer and gently pressed it into Tilly's ear.
Evan could see (Y/n) looking at him out the corner of her eye as she sat opposite him and Tilly at the table and munched on some toast. He could tell what was running through her mind. She was worried if their girl had a temperature; and she was slightly annoyed that Tilly wasn't making a fuss.
The little girl would throw a fit if (Y/n) checked her temperature or gave her medicine, but when it was Evan, she was as sweet as butter. (Y/n) guessed it was because although Evan was as sweet as ever with his girl, he could also be stern and his word was final. Tilly would never argue with Evan.
"Thirty-nine point four, she's got a fever."
Evan kissed the top of Tilly's head while the little girl nuzzled her face into his sternum and held one hand up so she could bite down on her thumb.
He gently batted her hand out the way so he could give her some medicine, watching with a smirk as his little girl took the medicine without grumbling. Although she did cough afterwards. But when she didn't raspberry it back at him, Evan took it as a win while (Y/n) rolled her eyes.
"Will you eat something before I go to work?" He murmured against Tilly's head and dragged the plate of toast across that (Y/n) had made for them. He took a piece and had a few bites while Tilly tilted her head back to look up at him.
"You stay… stay with me?" Tilly croaked and gave him her best puppy dog eyes, but when he said no, a gutural whine left her lips and she started to fidget in his arms.
"Princess, I have to go to work."
Evan could feel his heart breaking in his chest as he snuggled her closer to his chest and pecked her temple. He only had another ten minutes before he would have to kiss them goodbye and head off to be on time for work. He didn't like leaving either of them when they were ill. The first week going back to work after Tilly was born had been the hardest week of his life.
From the moment Evan looked at his girl, he never wanted to leave her sight again. He wanted to hold her and be with her every moment of the day, especially when she wasn't well. It was the same feeling he had whenever he had to go to work and leave (Y/n). He hated it. He hated not having them by his side.
"Daddy," The little whining tone in her voice continued to break his heart, but not his resolve. He couldn't call in sick at such short notice, he knew (Y/n) would persuade him otherwise. She was going to be here, there was no point Evan calling in sick and staying home too when (Y/n) was already here.
"It's not for long, baby girl. I'll be home for bath time, okay?" Today was one of the days where Evan was glad not to be doing a full twelve hour shift.
He would be home in time to give Tilly a bath and have tea before settling her down for bed. And he had a feeling that if she still felt this unwell, she would be staying in his and (Y/n)'s bed.
Tilly let out a little whine, but she didn't argue and when Evan handed her a piece of toast, she tried to munch on it to make him happy.
Evan reached out for the cup of coffee (Y/n) pushed his way and downed half of it in one go to try and wake himself up a bit more. He looked over at (Y/n) and nudged his foot against her thigh to catch her gaze.
"Call me later, so I know you're both okay."
(Y/n) nodded and smiled around the rim of her cup. She knew the drill, it had been the same when she had been pregnant and if she wasn't feeling well. She would ring Evan once, sometimes twice while he was on shift so he knew she felt okay and everything was alright. She had to; he was unnerving when he was panicking.
During the first few months when Evan went to work and (Y/n) was home with Tilly, she used to text him and send him pictures because she knew that again, Evan worried about leaving them. His line of work made him see strange, bad and frightening things and it increased his worry that while he was away, something bad like that might happen to his girls back home.
It was a good job (Y/n) still worked from home.
She switched to working from home when she became pregnant. The plan had always been to go back to the office once her maternity leave was over and get Tilly in daycare. That never seemed to happen.
Why have the stress of putting Tilly in daycare with strangers if she could be home with (Y/n)? Why go out to work if her boss was fine with her working from home and simply going into the office every other week for a catch up or for supervision?
The plan changed again, (Y/n) was supposed to be going back to work at the office once Tilly went into nursery full time, since she was only at nursery three times a week so far.
Although (Y/n) couldn't really see that happening, at least not for long. Not when Evan was broody and they were starting to try for another baby. And with the way he clung to her and worshipped her body when she was pregnant- not to mention the sight of him with a baby in his arms- (Y/n) couldn't object.
"You gonna have a movie day with mummy?" Evan held Tilly's beaker out to her once she finished a small piece of toast. It wasn't much, but it was something and he would rather her keep hydrated than try and eat and then be sick.
He smiled when Tilly hummed and looked over at (Y/n).
Evan leaned his head on his hand while his other hand ran up and down Tilly's chest and held her into him so he could cuddle her for a bit longer. His eyes darted between both his girls while he smiled. At least with (Y/n) working from home, neither of them had to take sick days or swap shifts to be home with Tilly when she wasn't well like this.
Evan liked both girls being at home, he could keep an eye on them that way and he knew they were both safe and fine as long as they were here.
***
A groan tumbled past Evan's lips and he tilted his head forward, straining his neck as he tried to click it back into place. He may have over-exherted himself carrying three separate people out the building and his back was starting to ache.
He shed his jacket and helmet and stuffed them in the compartment of the truck before he climbed up into the truck. He was glad to be the first one in the truck. He picked a seat behind the driver's seat and plonked down with his head tilted back and his back slouched down as his knees parted to the sides.
He only had a few more hours of his shift left. Not long, and he could go home to be with his girls and check on Tilly.
She had been playing on his mind this morning, he could see hear the way she screamed when he had to leave. He could feel her short nails scratching into his arms and see her trembling form in front of him as she cried, begging him not to go to work.
He could see the tears streaming down her face as she sniffled and whimpered, stretching her arms for him when he left. And he could see the tiredness in (Y/n)'s eyes that followed him even after he shut the door.
He wanted to go home.
Rolling his lips into a thin line, Evan felt a light go off in his head and he dug his hand around in his pocket until he found his phone.
He didn't have to worry about the girls and wonder if they were okay, he could just check on them from right here. Evan scrolled through the apps on his phone while he felt the truck rumbling and the sound of metal slamming from the rest of the team putting their equipment and helmets back.
It didn't take long to scroll through and find the camera app on his phone. They had a few security cameras in the house and Evan had them all connected to his phone, they'd had them since they moved into the house when they found out they were expecting Tilly.
Evan briefly lifted his head and nodded at Eddie when he climbed in the truck and sat opposite him, followed swiftly by Chimney and the new probie, Adam. He almost wondered where Hen was until he realised they had come on this call out with the ambulance; she would be driving it back to the station.
Evan flicked onto the upstairs camera while he dragged his belt round and sat up a bit straighter so his knees weren't pushing across into Eddie's space.
When he looked back down at the camera as Bobby revved up the engine, his head tilted to one side. So the girls weren't upstairs. His thumbs scrolled across to the downstairs camera, but he didn't see them in there either. The tv wasn't on. Tilly wasn't laid on the sofa or bundled up under a mountain of covers and pillows. She wasn't playing with her toys in the back room.
It didn't look like they were in the kitchen either. There wasn't a camera set up in the kitchen but the one in the dining room had a small glimpse into the kitchen. It looked empty.
The whole house looked empty; Evan couldn't see any movement in any of the cameras.
His brows furrowed and he looked over the cameras again while the truck turned a sharp corner and had him jostling from left to right.
Where had they gone to?
He clicked off the app, about to send (Y/n) a text when a thought made him switch to the location app he had at the back of the phone. Maybe (Y/n) had taken Tilly for a walk to give her some fresh air. Maybe they had gone down to the shops to get some more medicine; Tilly had a bad chest and throat, ice pops would be a good thing to have right now.
A shiver crawled down Evan's spine and he sat up straighter in his seat when he looked at the location on (Y/n)'s phone. What was going on?
Why was she at the hospital?
Dread dwelled in his stomach and he dropped his phone on the seat beside him while he turned to lean over the seat and look behind him. He patted his hand down on Bobby's shoulder to gain his attention while he glanced around to see whereabouts they were.
"Can you take a detour?"
"Where to?" Bobby glanced over his shoulder for a brief moment, but he didn't like the dark look he was faced with when he looked at Evan.
"Tilly's in the ER." His voice was gritty with a razor sharp edge, but it was his expression that had everyone on edge. His expression was one to be matched with a look of thunder and the way his lips curled into a grimace and his hands deadlocked into fists on his lap made Evan one to be rivalled with.
"Sure."
"Did (Y/n) message you?" The quiet tone in Eddie's voice seemed to take the edge off the atmosphere in the truck and he leaned over to look across at Evan.
He knew what it was like to have a child in the emergency room, he'd had his fair share of taking Chris to the hospital over the years. Or have Shannon or his abuela call him and say something had happened or Chris had gained yet another infection. He knew how stressful and panicking it could be and he could see the anger written across Evan's face.
"Yeah." He muttered, unable to lift his eyes from his hands that were clasped into fists in his lap.
That was the only explanation. (Y/n) had been fine this morning when he went to work and unless she'd had some kind of accident, then it was no big coincidence that (Y/n)'s phone location said she was at the hospital and Tilly wasn't well. Those two dots had to be connected. Something had to be wrong with their girl for (Y/n) to be there and their home to be empty.
Why didn't she call him?
Evan had his phone on him. He told (Y/n) to check in with him throughout the day and that meant telling him if their daughter had gotten worse. Taking her to the hospital classed as getting worse and Evan should have been there when (Y/n) took her. Not working obliviously at work while their girl was unwell.
His hands started to jitter up and down on his lap and his feet ruthlessly tapped and bashed into the metal floor of the truck as they headed towards a new destination.
"Alright Buck, let us know if you need anything." Bobby leaned across the seats to pat Evan's back when he flung his belt off and moved to get out the truck.
But not before he felt Eddie and Chimney reaching out for his arm and tell him to message them as soon as he had any news. Tilly was like a niece to them both and they all would want to know how she was getting on and what the problem was.
He stuffed his phone in his back pocket and jogged across the road towards the emergency room entrance.
How long had his girls been here? Would they be with a doctor by now? Was Evan going to be able to find them? He might have to charm the receptionist to find out where his girls were and which department they had been sent to if they had been here a while. At least he had priority, he was Tilly's dad, they had to tell him where his daughter was, if in fact she was still here.
Evan's eyes darted around when he walked into the emergency room. There were quite a few people in here today, but then again, it was mid-afternoon. The emergency room was packed in the afternoon and later on at night, the mornings and Sundays seemed to be the quietest times.
He avoided the queue at the reception desk and looked around, peering around the right corner to see if either of his girls were sat in there. He didn't spot them.
His fingers twitched at his sides and he could feel a desperation crawling throughout his system like ants scurrying beneath his skin.
It felt like his lungs were starting to shrivel up and take away his ability to breathe. Right until he took a few steps into the waiting area and looked to the far left.
The play area.
There was a small, sectioned off little corner with small plastic chairs and a table in the middle with an abacus for children to play and a few little toys scattered around.
There they were. Both his girls were sat right next to the children's corner, beneath the tv that was playing a kid's channel with a Disney show on in the background. That was why (Y/n) had chosen those seats, so she could be near the tv as a source of distraction for Tilly.
"It's okay," (Y/n) murmured softly and began again to brush her free hand across Tilly's temple that was dripping with sweat and flushed hot to the touch. She tried swaying from left to right while her daughter coughed and mewled in her arms, clearly distraught and upset.
But when she lifted her head, a look of fear flashed across (Y/n)'s face and panic lit up her eyes.
She could feel the unease crawling over her body and sending her head reeling like she had been hit with a blunt object.
He was here. How did Evan know they were here? She hadn't managed to get hold of him yet.
But there he was. Her husband. Aiming towards her with such a manic look on his face that (Y/n) hardly recognised him. He had rabid, dark eyes that were boring into (Y/n) like he was trying to see through her and reach her soul. His upper lip was curled up into a snarling look, he had a raised brow and his cheekbones were prominent as his features turned tense. It made the muscles in front of his ears pop out when he clenched and grated his jaw from left to right.
(Y/n) hated that his look was aimed at her. She hated whenever Evan got annoyed or upset with her, but to see him look at her like that made her want to cry. She knew it was going to take a miracle to calm him down from this.
"Evan…" She could barely find her voice when he stormed over to her and when she stared up at him, (Y/n) couldn't find any words at all. She could barely look up at him without feeling like she was melting into a puddle beneath his stern gaze.
With Evan stood up and being as tall as he was, it made him tower over her in the waiting room chair and the lighting seemed to cast a very ominus halo around him and cast dark shadows across his face. His shoulders were hunched up and the way he ticked his head to the side as he stared at her made (Y/n) wince.
She could see the way his eyes flitted from her to look at their daughter.
Tilly looked drowsy, she seemed half-conscious and that sent ripples of fear rushing through Evan. He didn't like how drowsy and lethargic she seemed, but his heart burst in his chest when Tilly groggily tilted her head back into (Y/n)'s chest and finally noticed who was stood in front of them.
She didn't say anything which broke Evan's heart all over again. It didn't matter whether he had been on a long shift at work or had just popped out to the shops. Whenever he came home, Tilly greeted him as if she hadn't seen him in weeks.
But her small arms stretched out in his direction and she made grabbing fists at him. And the tiny whimper and the way she mewled up at him showed how desperate she was to be back in Evan's arms now he was here.
(Y/n) stayed quiet and dropped her shoulders when Evan leaned over her and scooped their daughter from her arms. She was used to Evan taking Tilly from her, especially when their daughter wasn't well. Their daughter was like Evan's shadow. Whenever Evan came home, he was always reaching out to take her from (Y/n) and have a cuddle, and when she was sick Tilly would cling to him.
"Ooh baby," He cooed quietly when Tilly whimpered into his chest. He bounced her up and down in his arms, much like he had done this morning and he kissed her temple that was hot to the touch.
Evan could feel how bad Tilly's breathing was, she was croaking and gasping like her lungs were stuffed with cotton wool and she was running a higher temperature than she had this morning. She was on the verge of a fever.
But when he felt (Y/n)'s hand timidly gripping his arm and he watched the way she pointed to Tilly's back. His brows furrowed in confusion and he tucked his chin into Tilly's shoulder so he could hook his finger in the back of her shirt and peek at her back to see what (Y/n) was trying to show him.
His blood ran cold when he noticed there was a rash on her back. Little spots and bumps that were hot to the touch and when Evan leaned back and tried to check Tilly's chest, he noticed it was there too.
"Why didn't you call me?" His voice was laced with poison and so low that it didn't sound like him to (Y/n)'s ears.
Her eyes followed him as he sat down in the seat beside her and sat Tilly down on his lap with his arms bound around her chest. (Y/n) sank her teeth into her lower lip and leaned to the left as if she were treading her toes in the water, testing Evan's attitude and anger towards her. She tried her luck with curling her hands around his bicep and leaning close until she could merge her lips with his shoulder as if she were trying to soften him up.
"I called the doctor, a-and he said to come straight here. Then I didn't have a signal… Evan we've been here five minutes, I swear."
Tears welled up in (Y/n)'s eyes as she squeezed his arm and spoke, muffled into his arm. She could feel the way he bristled but the way he looked down at her showed he wasn't getting any angrier which was a good sign. (Y/n) hated him being upset with her. She knew that when she and Tilly were concerned, Evan had a very dark, possessive streak.
Both girls were his world and if they were upset or unwell or in any sense of danger, Evan's heckles were raised and his temper grew short.
(Y/n) didn't have a chance to call Evan.
When Tilly started to croak and her breathing became ragged and desperate, (Y/n) called the doctor straight away. She explained the symptoms, he heard Tilly's gasping voice as she tried to speak and he told them to get straight down to the emergency room. But by the time (Y/n) got here, she realised she hadn't called or checked in with Evan about this.
And the signal was non-existent in here. She couldn't even send him a message, let alone try and ring him and the most she had been waiting was up to ten minutes in the waiting room after she booked in.
"And what, you'd of rung me after she'd been checked onto the children's ward?" His voice was still gruff and he didn't spare her a glance, his lips attached to the top of Tilly's head and his sights remained on the floor.
It wasn't good enough.
Tilly was their daughter. She was their little girl, Evan's baby, and if she wasn't well like this he expected to be told. He'd had his phone on him. (Y/n) could have gotten through to him or left him a message because even if he didn't answer right away, he would at least have gotten a voicemail or a text from her. He would have gotten down here as soon as possible, but (Y/n) didn't even call.
If Evan didn't have the good sense to check his phone and try to check in on them he would have finished his shift and gone home to find neither of his girls there waiting for him.
"Baby please, I'm sorry."
What else could she say? What else could she do to make it up to him and show him she hadn't done this on purpose?
(Y/n) didn't purposely ignore Evan or bring Tilly here with the intention of not calling him and leaving him out of the loop. She wouldn't do that.
She wouldn't dare.
Evan had to know that. He had to know that (Y/n) knew how much he loved her and their daughter and he needed to know that (Y/n) wouldn't not tell him something like this. Tilly had been whimpering for Evan all day and when she realised where they were going this afternoon she had been breathlessly crying out for him. (Y/n) would of called him as soon as possible when she got a signal on her phone.
"I told you to check in with me. I said to let me know how she is, you can't just not tell me." Evan tried to hide the edge to his voice that sounded more reprimanding than angry, but he felt the way (Y/n) shuddered into his arm and clung to him tighter.
"Daddy,"
"I'm here now, I've got you princess." Evan pecked the top of her head again and began swaying her from left to right. But he didn't pull his arm out of (Y/n)'s grip and he didn't say anything when she pecked his shoulder.
He glanced down at her with one raised brow and pursed lips; a look (Y/n) knew well. A look that implied he wouldn't broach the subject any more right now, but they would certainly be talking about this later.
"Tilly Buckley?"
(Y/n) looked her bag on her shoulder and clutched at Evan's arm when he stood up with Tilly curled up against his chest. She had been told that despite the number of people in here today, Tilly would be a priority. She was a toddler with breathing difficulties, they wouldn't have to wait long.
And despite how angry she knew Evan was and how surprising his presence was, (Y/n) was glad he was here. Tilly was always calmer around him and she didn't play up when Evan was with her.
They followed the nurse through a corridor and down into a cubicle in the assessment ward. It had been a while since they had been in here. When Evan came to the emergency room, it was usually the team who brought him in the middle of a shift. The last time he was here for himself was when he'd dislocated his knee.
And the last time they had been here in the emergency room was for (Y/n) when she'd gotten an infection near the end of her pregnancy. She'd been so sick all she could throw up was bile and stomach acid and it started to give her stomach cramps. Evan had to haul her from the car and practically carry her in here.
They'd never had to bring Tilly to the emergency room before.
Once they were in the room, Evan carefully eased Tilly down in the middle of the bed and stood behind the bed so she could slouch back into his abdomen. His hands ran up and down her sides to try and keep her calm and stop her from wriggling away or trying to curl up and go to sleep. She had probably missed her afternoon nap and because she wasn't well she was going to be extremely tired.
"Hi there little lady," The doctor had a calming smile on her face and there was a nurse in the corner of the room, presumably to take notes and possibly bloods if needed.
Tilly looked at the doctor as she wheeled a stool closer to be in front of the bed, but she didn't speak. She tilted her head back into Evan's chest and stared up at him with those big doe eyes that were watering already.
"Is it just breathing problems that brought you here today?" The doctor looked between the couple as (Y/n) started to knot her hands together in front of her and one foot jittered against the floor.
"She was sick all night, and had a temperature this morning. But she couldn't breathe properly this afternoon, she's really struggling."
"And now she's got a rash." Evan leaned down and pecked the top of Tilly's head when she squirmed back into him like she was trying to wriggle away.
"Okay, let's take a look."
Tilly looked like she was about to protest and scuttle away until Evan's hands held her waist and his arms pressed into her sides to keep her in place. He let her lean back into his abdomen and held tight which seemed to both calm her down and stop her from moaning in protest.
The little girl snapped her eyes closed when the stethoscope pressed to her chest, and she croaked when it moved to press against her back to listen to her lungs. "Deep breath please sweetie."
(Y/n) reached out and gently tangled her fingers in Tilly's hair, brushing the curls away from her eyes to try and keep her calm because it was clear she wasn't happy. And her breathing was starting to crackle again. (Y/n) saw the way the doctor pursed her lips and sighed, although she tried to keep a calm smile on her face.
"Can I take your temperature?"
"Daddy…" Pressing her head back into Evan's abdomen, Tilly stretched her arms out and dug her nails into Evan's chest and arms, anywhere she could reach to try and make him help. She wanted to be picked up and cuddled, she wanted to be taken home. This was scary and she didn't want to be here, wherever here was.
Her little eyes screwed shut and her nose crinkled when a violent cough left her lips and had her wheezing. Her shoulders pulled in and she started to gasp to try and take in a deep breath.
"Deep breaths, baby." Evan murmured while he crouched down so his head was level with hers and she could lean back into his chest. Her head fell back on his shoulder and when she started to wave her hands in front of her chest, Evan enveloped his large hands around her small ones. He started to take deep breaths to coach Tilly to do the same until she was able to take croaky breaths instead of strangled gasps.
She kept her head back on Evan's shoulder and stopped squirming when the doctor pressed the thermometer in her ear.
"Let's see that rash."
"Come'ere," Evan murmured against her cheek and pulled her shirt up so the doctor could see the spots and raised bumps along her chest that matched the ones on her back. They definitely hadn't been there this morning. Both parents would have noticed. As soon as (Y/n) saw them when she changed Tilly this afternoon, she knew she had to call the doctors.
"Okay," The doctor smiled softly and hooked the stethoscope back around her neck while she sat back and looked between both parents. "It looks like she has a nasty chest infection, but I think she's starting to develop sepsis."
Evan did his best to hide the groan at the back of his throat and he dragged his hand down his face, unable to stop from scratching his nails into his face. He felt the way (Y/n) leaned over and clamped her hand down on his shoulder and when he noticed she was shaking, he glanced up at her.
This wasn't good. An infection was bad enough, but sepsis was worse. Her body was attacking the healthy tissues while trying to fight the infection, she could go into shock. This could cause respiratory failure. This was serious. Tilly was a toddler, not much more than a baby, having sepsis would put her at very high risk and could potentially kill her.
"What do you do, to treat that?"
(Y/n) darted her eyes between Evan and the doctor while Evan kissed Tilly's cheek and moved back up to standing behind Tilly once again.
"We take bloods to confirm, get her straight onto the children's ward and set her up on antibiotics and fluids. I'm afraid you'll be here for a while."
Neither of them cared how long they were going to be here, as long as Tilly got cared for and looked after then they would stay for hours, days, a week or more. They would stay and make sure their daughter got the treatment she needed.
"No, m-mummy," A grumbling cough vibrated past Tilly's lips and she winced when the nurse wheeled a tray across to the bed so she could take the blood sample. Once they got the blood Tilly would be straight onto the ward and then it would just be a matter of waiting for the results to get the right antibiotics.
She started to wriggle on the bed and managed to stand up until she could coil her arms around (Y/n)'s arm and try to tug her closer, presumably so she could be picked up and cradled. The way she coughed made (Y/n) grimace and she caught Evan wincing out the corner of her eye.
He hated how desperate she was for breath and how she swayed back and forth, showing she was drowsy and had no sense of balance.
He knew when they got her onto the ward she would be on oxygen, maybe even an inhaler to get her lungs opening up properly. She wasn't going to like this.
"It's okay baby, sit down." She brushed her fingers through her hair and rubbed her flushed cheek, but the tears streaming down Tilly's face made her wince.
"Mummy," It was as if Tilly thought one of them would cave and take her home. Her eyes seemed to double in size and the way her lips were trembling as she gasped for breath made (Y/n)'s heart break. She wanted nothing more than to cradle Tilly in her arms and make everything better, but she couldn't do that yet.
"Alright princess, come on. I know you can be a good girl for me."
Tilly didn't make a sound when Evan reached out and took her from (Y/n)'s arms. He lifted her up so he could plonk down on the end of the bed himself and he carefully set his little girl down on his lap. His arms bound around her waist with her hands holding onto his wrists with a surprisingly strong grip.
She slouched back into him and nuzzled her cheek into his bicep in a rather cute way like she was trying to hide in his embrace.
(Y/n) stood beside the bed, curling her hand around Evan's bicep while he pecked the top of Tilly's head and took one of her hands to hold out towards the nurse.
The two year old grumbled and started to whine breathlessly until she dared to glance up. Once she saw the stern look Evan gave her, she burrowed her face back into his arm and closed her eyes. She stayed extremely still apart from the odd croak or cough and she mewled quietly when the needle slid into the crease of her elbow.
"See, such a brave girl."
"One of my best patients." The nurse handed the vile of blood over to the doctor, but the grin on her face made both parents smile.
Of course Tilly would be a model patient once Evan told her to be good or stay still and be brave. She would do anything he asked, she was always good for Evan, she wouldn't step a toe out of line because she would never want Evan to be mad with her.
He was her protector.
"I'll get this sent off and find someone to get you booked onto the ward."
Once both the doctor and the nurse disappeared from the room, (Y/n) perched down on the end of the bed and went back to curling her hands around Evan's tense bicep. She nuzzled her cheek into his shoulder and tucked herself up into his side while she watched their girl burrow into his chest. Tilly was on the verge of falling asleep and it might calm her down a bit if she had a nap now.
"Sorry I didn't call you… I'm glad you got here quick." Her voice stayed quiet and she closed her eyes until she suddenly felt Evan's fingers beneath her chin.
He tilted her head up from his shoulder so they were face to face again and the softening look in his eyes made (Y/n)'s stomach burst with adrenaline.
"I gotta look after my girls, don't I?"

PAIRINGS: Evan Buckley x Girlfriend!Reader

WORDCOUNT: 3.3K Words
A/N: Uhm, let’s not talk about this…
Evan was in love.
For the first time in his life he was truly, head over heels for someone. Even he himself couldn’t believe it. His friends all noticed the change in demeanour. The excessive happiness that he seemed to radiate at all time. They couldn’t find it in themselves to be anything but happy for him.
He’d had his fair share of relationships, but of course they didn’t last. Whether it was off on travels, untrustworthiness or a bad connection. They didn’t last. But with you, he knew you were the one. From the way you looked up at him, the way you smiled when he held your hand. You never judged him, dealt with his family issues as well as his own recklessness.
You were perfect, in every way. And Buck knew it. It’s why when he found out you were think about breaking up with him that he found himself spiralling.
He’d been using your phone to text Bobby, to tell him he wasn’t coming in the next day. You’d both planned to have a beach day, since the both of you had been busy lately. After texting Bobby, a text from your friend has caught his eye.
Just break up with him!
Evan could feel his heart racing, what the hell?
So he pressed on the conversation and found his worst nightmare. You’d been talking to her about how you found yourself with less time alone, almost always being dragged out to a restaurant or some other place by Buck. You felt smothered, but didn’t have the heart to tell him. If you’d told him he was being clingy he would’ve tried to dial it back. But speaking about him behind his back? To your bitch of a friend?
It wasn’t right of you. And it wasn’t right of her to encourage these thoughts. She’d met Evan before, multiple times. She always talked about how perfect the two of you were for each other. And here she was, trying to get you to leave him, your soulmate.
So he texted her, on your behalf.
I’m not breaking up with him, don’t text me. I don’t want to see you anymore.
Then he blocked her number.
“Evan?” His head rose from the pillow, looking down at you as you walked into the apartment. “Yeah babe? Everything okay?” He heard you jogging up the stairs, “Maya blocked me, I think. I tried to talk to her on Insta and she told me to screw myself. I don’t know what I did wrong.” Bucks heart hurt at the sight of you crying.
“Oh baby, you didn’t do anything. You shouldn’t be thinking about a friend who can be so rude with no explanation. C’mere.” He held his arms out for you as you settled into his arms, tears dampening his shirt. “I’ve got you, you’re okay.” He cradled your head against his chest. “I— I just don’t know what I did.”
“Shh, don’t waste your energy on her. Okay?” Your head lifted, “Okay…” He could sense your uncertainty, you’d been friends with Maya for a while, almost a year. He knew it’d be hard for you to get over it, but it was for the best. Evan knew what was best for you.
Your boyfriend was acting strangely, to say the least.
He’d been much more involved with your friends now. Always asking after them, what you guys were doing, whether or not Maya came back in touch. It felt as if you couldn’t breathe in their presence without a million texts from him.
Evan ❤️
Where are you right now?
Who’s with you?
When are you coming home?
Home. He always assumed you were coming to his place. As if you were already living together when you’d only been together for five months. Even when you brought it up to him, he’d brush his actions off.
“I mean we’re practically living together already no? What’s the point in you having your things somewhere else when you can have it here. Saves you a trip in the morning baby.” Evan murmured into your neck as you stood in the bathroom. “I… I have my own place Evan. I like having my own place. It’s not just my things that are there. It’s my place.” His arms briefly tightened around you at the sound of your protest.
“I know, but don’t you want to live with me? Be with me?” Buck retracted his face from your neck, his arms circling around your neck as your hands held on to his arms. “I do! I do want to be with you. I am with you baby.” His frown disappeared in a second, replaced with an unsettling smile. “That’s what I thought.” He kissed your cheek before walking out the door.
You stared into the mirror. What the hell does that mean? That’s what I thought? You shook your head in an attempt to collect your thoughts. Did you want to be in this relationship? Where you felt like you were being babysat? As if Buck was your parent, always asking where you were and who with. As if you couldn’t handle yourself, needing supervision.
It took you another month to realise this isn’t what you wanted in a relationship. You wanted to be equals, to rely on eachother and trust each other. The ability to go out and not give your exact location every ten minutes. To not feel as if you have an overwhelming pressure behind you, always looming. Like a shadow.
But it was a month too long. You’d given Evan even more access into your life. He’d sweet talked you into sharing your live location with you. Even your bank account was accessible to him, being able to overlook your transactions. He had keys to your apartment and even his face ID on your phone (not that you knew he had access to your phone).
You’d confided in your best friend. And she’d encouraged you the whole time. She herself hadn’t noticed Evan’s overbearing behaviour, he always handled himself properly in public. Not a single person would suspect him of being so controlling. He was to sweet for that. And even if they noticed his clinginess, they viewed it as a sweet trait.
He loves you so much he can’t breathe without you. Half of his personality had become you. His wallpaper was a photo of the two of you, his password was now your birthday. His pantry and fridge were filled with your favourite foods, even when you weren’t staying over.
It was all you. Evan finally had someone to love, to spoil and to hold with all his might. He’d be damned if someone tried to take you from him. So when he used your phone to call an Uber since you’d both walked to the restaurant, imagine his surprise and anger in finding another friend of yours against him.
Y/n: I think I’ll tell him tonight, at his place. Somewhere he feels comfortable and won’t be embarrassed.
Rebekah: Good idea, I hope he takes it well. I don’t think he means to cling in all honesty. Might just be a subconscious decision since he hasn’t had many long term relationships. Hopefully he finds someone for him.
Y/n: I know, me too. I just feel so bad, he’s had like two or three girlfriends before me and none of them worked out :(
Rebekah: I know babe, but don’t stay with him out of pity. That’s even worse for him.
Y/n: It’s not pity, I’m not still with him out of pity. I really do love him, but I can’t help feeling as if I have no space. He’s always asking for where I am, and with whom. It’s overbearing. And he seemingly can’t handle me being independent, as if I need him to do everything for me. I’m not a child.
Rebekah: You aren’t, no where near it. I get that you love him, but this isn’t healthy. You both deserve better. Some girls love a guy who cares so much. Wishing you all the best, I have a wine bottle waiting for us x
Y/n: Maybe I can wait to do it another night? I’m having a good time, reminds me why I love him :(
Rebekah: No!! If you keep going you’ll never get away.
Y/n: Pleaseeee??
Rebekah: Breakup sex isn’t a horrible idea. Might soften the blow lmao 🤣
Y/n: That’s not what I meant! I’m gonna go, and am NOT leaving to have sex.
Rebekah: Whatever you say, happy break up day xx 💋
Happy break up day? What a bitch.
If there was one aspect of your relationship that never suffered, it was in the bedroom. And Evan couldn’t help but notice when he was closing your open apps, your cycle tracking app. His thumb hovered over it, he looked around to make sure you weren’t returning from the bathroom. Only a few words stuck out for Evan.
High chance of getting pregnant.
You soaked in the ride back to Evans place. One more night with him, that’s all you were giving him. The idea of breaking up with sounded alright over text, but actually facing it? Your hands were sweating, heart racing. You didn’t want to let go, but you knew you had to.
Now or never.
Your eyes darted around Evans apartment, soaking it all up for your last time, when his hands came around your waist as he kissed your neck. “A bit eager aren’t we?” You joked as his hold tightened, “Mhm.” He grabbed you by the hips before turning you to face him, “You look amazing, and you smell so good.” You couldn’t help but blush at the compliments, Evan always knew how to make a girl blush.
“I do?” His hands cradled your face, kissing you on the forehead, “You do baby.” Evan’s hands travelled down to your butt, “Up.” He only needed one word, and so did you. He carried you up the stairs, then softly laying you down on the bed.
Evan was swift in taking your dress off, then his own outfit. “I love you.” He spoke as he thrust into you, your hands held on tightly to his hair, “Oh god Evan!” He couldn’t contain his smirk, he loved you like this. An absolute mess, all for him.
“Say it back.” His fingers dug into your hips.
“Ow! What?” Your brain was foggy, Evans words went in and out your ears.
“Say. It. Back.” His voice held no sweetness, it was purely demanding. His pace was brutal, and again it felt as if you couldn’t breathe. The pleasure was overwhelming, you felt so good. “I…” Your heart was racing again, it felt wrong to tell him you loved him.
His teeth bit down on your collarbone, “I love you!”
You shouldn’t have said it back. It was all that you could think about as his demeanour changed again, a lovesick grin on his face as he kissed you passionately. His hands felt heavy on your skin, burning into you. All you could feel was Evan. Your head was hazy as he carried you, bridal style. The water was warm, and so was he.
Evan slid in behind you in the bath, his arms were strong around you. He took his time in cleaning you off, savouring the moment. “You hungry?” He sounded so casual, as if he hadn’t literally bruised you moments before. “A little.” Your voice was quiet for some reason, you didn’t know why. “We’ll have anything you want.”
That night you spent with him was one of the weirdest of your life. You felt safe with him, more so than you felt with anyone else. But you couldn’t shake the memories of prior times. Him literally crashing a birthday party to make sure you were where you said you were. Evan dragging you back into bed when you needed to work. Him telling you to not reach for the top shelf, saying it was ‘too much for you’. Or him cutting up your food.
Everytime he looked at you, you felt conflicted.
Was this what love was? Uncertainty? Through the night you found yourself tired. Your brain was constantly filing through a million thoughts, about Evan, about yourself and your life. You loved him, but would it be wrong to stay with someone who seemingly infiltrated every aspect of your life? You didn’t know, all you knew was that the pizza was amazing and he was snuggly.
So you stayed the night. You’d fallen asleep in his arms halfway through ‘Me Before You’. You’d spent majority of the movie arguing over whether she should’ve stayed with him or left. And whether he should’ve lived to be with her. “It’s not right! He’s miserable! She should be understanding of him wanting to leave! Which she is in the end.” Evan shook his head as he tossed his slice into the box. “You’re so wrong.” You gasped.
“He should stayed for her. He knew she loved him and it was selfish of him to leave.”
“He was miserable Evan!”
“Would you leave me if I lost my ability to walk?”
Well that sentence shut you up quickly. “I—, I wouldn’t. I’d stay with you. But the movie is different, she meets him afterwards. He’s already miserable, and she makes it better, yes. But he knows he can’t give her the life she deserves. So he’s selfless in letting her go. And also, if you wanted to go, I’d support you. I’d be sad, yes, but you’re not happy. And I’d want you to be happy.”
“I’d never tell you to leave me. You’re too good to let go. Having you by my side is all I need.” You remained staring at the screen, unable to move. “Thank you.” Evan raised his eyebrows at your dismissal of his words.
“I love you Y/n.”
You turned to him with a small smile, “Love you too.” And within ten minutes, you were sleeping in his arms. Evan glanced down at you with a smile before pulling out his phone. He typed out the date of yesterday. It seemed like a date he’d need to remember. And it was lucky, in about nine months, he’d be holding a mini you in his arms.
You woke up with Evans arm draped over you, locking you in place. You slipped out slowly, grabbing a shirt and leggings of yours. You’d failed in breaking up with him, you knew you had. Last night had sucked you right back in to the storm that was Evan Buckley.
He looked at peace when he slept. Content. Maybe you could have a talk with him about boundaries. You weren’t ready to let go of him yet. And it was exactly what he was counting on, he’d wormed his way into your life. To the point where you weren’t sure what life was like without him.
Evan kept his eyes closed as you left. Letting you think you’d gotten away without him knowing. Last night was amazing in his opinion, and when you didn’t respond through out the day he surprisingly kept his cool. He had a good feeling about the night, and if he was lucky, you’d come crawling back either way.
The day had been quiet, you ran some errands, completed your laundry. And with only one text for Evan compared to the usual twenty.
Have a good day ❤️
You found yourself smiling at the text. Simple and sweet. Maybe he’d read your mind and was now reeling back? God you hoped he was adjusting his behaviour. And through the rest of the week, he didn’t show up. He didn’t randomly come to pick you up from work, or bombard you with calls and texts when you went out for drinks. You’d become so accustomed to telling him your location that he didn’t have to ask.
You called every day, barely over an hour. Just debriefing eachother about your days and gossiping. It felt as if you were both improving in your relationship. You were lowering your guard, and he was working his way in. He wasn’t being too pushy, and you weren’t being protective.
And it was a new chapter in your eyes. Since he’d stayed that way. You found yourself even happier than usual. Going out with him more willingly, especially to dinners with the 118. In two months, they saw more of Bucks girlfriend then they had in the previous 7-8 months.
And whilst you may not have noticed any changes of your own physically, Evan sure did. He felt them, your chest was heavier, and a slight bump was developing. You’d recently been an avid sushi lover when it came to eating out, and you’d been having cravings.
You’d confided in Evan about missing your period, and whilst he acted concerned, it was probably the best news he’d ever gotten. He’d come home the next day after his shift with about six different home pregnancy tests. And you’d been willing to take them.
His world stopped when each one came out positive. But first he had to gauge your reaction, the relief was unmatched when you turned to him with a smile. “We’re having a kid.” You whispered as he nodded, “A mini you, or me.” Tears fell down your face as you squealed before jumping onto him. He laughed as you buried your face into his shoulder before facing him, “You’re gonna be a daddy.” And he couldn’t help but cry himself.
You were going to be a family.
Evan was outstanding when it came to taking care of you. Anything you needed was in front of you within the hour. You’re tired? Here’s a pillow, blanket and soothing sounds to help you sleep. You’re hungry? Here’s every craving that he’s logged of yours, with delivery on the way. You’re sore? He’s got oil in his hands and eager look on his face, to which you tease him.
“Missed me that much huh?”
“You have no idea.” He whispered before kissing you.
It was a Friday dinner at Bobby and Athena’s when you announced the pregnancy to them. To which you were met with blank stares which eventually erupted into cheers and hugs.
“Oh god, Bucks having a kid before me.” Chimney shuddered as Evan slapped his bicep, “Evans going to be an amazing father.” You smiled as he grinned, “Why thank you Mrs Buckley.” He kissed you before you could react, is marriage around the corner for you?
“Well actually…” Maddie spoke out as you all turned, “Oh my god, are we pregnant at the same time?” Her small nod caused chaos to erupt amongst the home, “Two new additions to the family!” Bobby cheered. Chimneys mind was close to exploding as he hugged her.
“I’m so happy they all know.” You spoke happily as Evan sighed, “I can’t believe she’s pregnant.” You kissed his cheek before holding his hands, “Do we need to have the butterflies and bees talk?” He rolled his eyes as you pretended to pout, and he poked your cheek.
“Can’t believe we’re going to be a family. The three of us, forever.” Evan kissed the top of your head as Athena and Bobby smiled, “They’re going to be great parents.” Bobby nodded along, “Can’t believe Buck’s going to be a father. I remember his first day, and now he has a whole family.” He couldn’t help the slight tears in his eyes.
As Evan stood in the middle of the room he felt happier than ever. He had a family he loved and a family member on the way. He knew he finally had everything the could’ve ever wanted. Especially with the girl he loved in his arms, and he’d never let go.

So, I really want to get back into Dark! Writing..👀 18+ ONLY
Tumblr media
That was honestly the whole reason I created this account, to separate my darker pieces from the more socially appropriate, if you will.
I don’t want that to be the focus of my page, but I do think I’ve deviated away from it a bit too far, so I just want to start incorporating it again!
If you have any requests, send the in!
Here are a few examples of my Darker writings:
TRIGGER WARNING
1.) Dylan O’Brien
2.) Steve Rogers
3.) Chris Evans

Can you do a buck x reader where the reader and buck are married but she gets amnesia and only doesn't remember buck and their relationship. But it ends with fluff
where’s my mind?
pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley x fem!reader
summary: you wake up in a hospital bed surrounded by your family and friends, but amnesia took away the memory of your husband, what’s Buck gonna do?
word count: 2,1k
author’s note: thanks to an anon for this request, I hope you all enjoy it, because I definitely had fun writing it 🫧 p.s. requests are open
Tumblr media
“Yes baby, I will be home in 10 minutes, just had to stop at a gas station otherwise I wouldn’t make it.” — you say over the phone and sigh. Your day was long enough, of course it couldn’t end well, something had to make it a bit longer.
“Okay love, be safe.” — you hear Buck’s voice and smile. Who would have thought that after four years of dating – you can finally call this man your husband? The past three months of being married were so wonderful, you had everything you dreamed of. “I love you.”
“I love you too, see you soon!” — you smiled again and hung up the phone.
Well, this gas station definitely looks a bit shady, but it was the only one near and you really needed to get some gas.
It was 11 p.m., streets are getting emptier, and flashlights are the only source of seeing something in this darkness. You felt shivers down your spine and thought that it’s time to go home, you didn’t like this place.
Your hand reaches for the car door to get into the driver's seat. But this never happens. Instead, you feel a blow to your head so hard that the only thing you remember is falling to the ground and darkness. If someone got a reward for the most unfortunate end of the day, you would get it today.
Next thing you know, you wake up in a hospital and you try to properly open your eyes, but the light in the hospital is so bright that you squint for the first few minutes. You feel someone is sitting next to you and you turn your head in their direction. It was Maddie.
“Maddie? W-what happened?” — you finally speak and don’t recognize your voice. The voice is so hoarse, quiet and low.
“Oh (Y/N), you’re finally awake.” — Maddie said with a smile. “Don’t worry, you’re fine now, you got attacked at a gas station and had a concussion.” — she took your hand and squeezed it. “I’m gonna tell Buck you’re awake, he just left to buy some coffee. He will be so happy.” — one more smile from her and she left your room.
“Buck? Who’s that?” — you think to yourself and get confused. “Maybe it’s a doctor or something.”
A man runs into your room with a relieved look on his face. You assumed it was Buck. But you really can’t remember his face. Maybe it’s Maddie’s friend or a doctor she knows, she's a former nurse after all.
“Hi baby, I’m so glad you’re awake.” — he rushed to sit next to your bed, took your hand in his and placed a gentle kiss on it. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m sorry, sir, but do I know you? I can’t remember if I ever saw you.” — the confusion is written on your face, you furrowed your brows and looked at him.
But Buck just laughed and smiled at you. You always liked to call him “sir” to tease him. He had no idea why you did that, but he secretly liked it, it made you look cocky.
“I don’t know why you’re laughing, but I’m getting quite uncomfortable by my hand being kissed by a stranger. You better explain.” — you said that and pulled your hand out of his. Why does he think that he has some privilege to do that?
Then Buck realized. You don’t remember him. He felt like his world fell apart in one second. Everything they had been building for almost 5 years just disappeared. Your eyes were saying everything. There’s no love, affection and fondness in them. You didn’t look at him like he was the most important person in your life anymore.
“Maddie, can you explain? This man seems too stunned to speak.” — you said annoyingly, because no one gives any answers.
“(Y/N), I’m Buck, your husband.” — he said with so much pain that for a moment you thought that it’s you who’s acting stupid.
You couldn't lose your memory like that, could you? You remember everyone except your husband. Oh god, you're married, you probably have a house together, lots of plans for the future, but you don't remember anything.
Your head starts to hurt a lot from all the information that doesn't seem real. You look at Maddie and you see that tears are starting to form in her eyes. You see Hen standing outside the door of the room and talking to the doctor. The saddest look you've ever seen is on her face. Everyone remembers everything, why can't you remember?
The doctor comes into your room and gives you a little smile. This smile didn’t say "it's good that you woke up", this smile said "hang on, you have a lot of surprises ahead."
“So, Mr. and Mrs. Buckley, I have some news that I need to share. (Y/N) experienced a severe blow to the head, which led to dissociative amnesia, due to which she may forget something or someone specific in her life.” — so it’s true, you did forget your husband. How long have you two been together? How many good memories did you forget?
“What can we do?” — Buck said, pursing his lips. He took your hand again and squeezed it. This news shocked him, he wasn't ready for it, but he knows for sure that he is ready to do everything in his power to make you remember him.
“The best thing you can all do is put her in the environment where she has been for the last 5 years. Guide her slowly and carefully tell her the events she has forgotten. Memories can come in flashes and this is normal, it means that she remembers and after a while she will remember everything. But I must warn you that there is a chance that she will not remember anything.” — the doctor said and gave Buck a soft look. Unfortunately, he has to deal with many cases of amnesia and the hardest thing is to see the patient's family and know that they don't have the slightest idea what to do next. “Now, if you excuse me, I need to check on another patient.”
There is a chance that she will not remember anything. These words ring in Buck's head. What if she really doesn't remember anything? Would he have to win her love all over again? Would he have to propose to her again? Will they have to build everything again for another 5 years?
2 months later
The door opens. You came back from grocery shopping. Apparently, this is the house that you and Buck moved into after your wedding. Home sweet home, only you don't feel at home. You remember that you lived alone, there wasn't even a man on the horizon that you liked, turns out you're already married.
Buck is very sweet, he hasn't left your side for a second since you woke up. He showed you pictures of you together. Here you are at Bobby's birthday party, here you saw Jee for the first time, here you are at Chim and Maddie’s hospital wedding, here you are spending a free day at the beach. And you could remember those events, but you don't remember living them with Buck.
Yesterday Buck told you that you were supposed to fly to Europe together for the first time in 2 weeks. It's been your dream all your life and Buck was happy to make it a reality. He was happy to share memories with you that would keep you both warm in the future. But the trip will have to be canceled, because he doesn't want to overwhelm you.
“I know it’s a lot and you probably want to run away, but listen, I’m here if you need me. I know you don’t remember me, but I remember everything and my love will be enough for both of us for now.” — Buck put the bags on the floor and came over to you. He stopped in front of you and didn't know how to behave. He wanted to kiss you, but would it be too much? He wanted to hug you, but wouldn't that scare you off?
Seeing how he hesitated, you hugged him yourself. You hugged him to you as hard as you could. The thing is, you were very scared. But Buck instilled a sense of security, he was your safe place. You didn't remember him, but your body remembered exactly how to react to him. And you trusted that instinct.
So far, you have agreed to sleep in separate bedrooms. You didn't want to rush things, and he didn't want to push you. So when night fell, you said goodnight to each other and went to your rooms.
You lay down on the bed and put your head on the pillow, it smelled like Buck. His cologne, his shower gel, the whole room seemed to be filled with him. You looked at the bedside table and saw a photo of you together. So happy and beautiful, in the photo you were somewhere in the park.
“I promise I will remember you. For us.” — you said quietly to yourself and fell asleep.
It was a beautiful sunny day. You look at yourself in the mirror and you're wearing an amazing wedding dress. Your hair, makeup, jewelry — all this made you feel like a princess.
“Athena, I’m so nervous, I don't think I will remember my vows.” — you turned around to Athena while she was preparing your veil.
“(Y/N), you and Buck have been preparing for this wedding for six months, if something goes wrong, it will definitely be Chim that got into some shit again.” — she laughed and took your hand.
“Listen, don't memorize your vows, speak from the heart. Remember how he makes you feel, remember his every look and touch, remember how he looks at you. And don't forget to add his nickname at the end. What do you always call him?” — Athena looked into your eyes and smiled. She knew for sure that your vows would be perfect.
“Light of my life.”
You woke up and were breathing heavily. It was a flashback from your wedding. Of course, you always called him "light of my life." Because he saved you from the darkest stage of your life.
You had your favorite white tulips at the wedding. Buck wanted everyone to come in colorful outfits, but you insisted on a dress code. And the cake ended up being 5 times bigger than you expected, so at the end of the day you handed it out to each guest, so they could eat it at home.
You remembered. Panic began to take over your whole body. Or is it just your love for your husband has returned and your body is responding to it?
You lifted the blanket, got out of bed, and hurried to the room where Buck sleeps. But he wasn't sleeping, you saw the light in his room and opened the door.
“Buck…” — you whispered and felt tears on your cheeks.
“Hey. Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” — Buck saw how panicked you were and rushed to stand next to you. He put his hands on your shoulders and looked into your eyes. “Talk to me.”
“Light of my life.”
He froze. Did you remember? Or is he dreaming? He didn’t want to move to not scare the reality. He just wanted to stay in this moment.
“You don't like oranges, so we immediately told the pastry chef not to offer us cakes with oranges. You really want children, so on our second date we started choosing names for our children. When you were struck by lightning, you pretended to be a Flash for 3 months, and when I dyed my hair and didn't tell you about it, you started calling me because you didn't recognize me, even though I was standing next to you the whole time.” — you started rattling off the facts of your relationship quickly, as if you were afraid to forget, but you remembered everything.
You saw the tears in Buck's eyes and started crying even harder. You couldn't even imagine what he was going through these two months while you didn't remember anything.
“I knew you would remember.” — he said and had the biggest smile on his face. “C-can I kiss you?”
“Please.” — you said it and pulled him to you for a kiss. So desirable for both of you.
“Don’t cancel Europe, we need more memories.”
Buck just laughed, picked you up and carried you to the bed. It's going to be a long night.

“No, no, no…a little to my left—yep. Perfect!” Buck glances down at the clipboard in his hand as he checks off the final box on the list. “And that’s it!”
Hen and Eddie look at each other as they descend from their ladders, both stepping back to admire the banner.
‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Y/N)!’
“It looks great, Buck.” Hen smiles as she spares a glance behind her to the entrance of the firehouse. “Does Bobby have the cake done yet?”
“Yep! He had to let it cool for a minute, but he’s up in the loft icing it now.” Buck explains as he sets down the clipboard. “I’m going to go change before (y/n) gets here.”
Eddie checks the time on his phone, “Better hurry, man. She should be getting here anytime.”
By the time Eddie looks back up, Buck is already gone from his sight. He laughs to himself as he trods up the stairs to the loft, “He’s hopeless.”
Eddie’s only upstairs for a few moments before he hears your voice calling out from downstairs.
“Hello! Buck…Hen…Eddie…? Where is every-”
“SURPRISE!”
The abrupt chorus of cheers catches you off guard causing you to panic at first. Jumping slightly, you look up towards the loft and see most of the crew peering down over the railing looking at you.
“Jesus Christ, are you guys trying to give me a heart attack…” you laugh, hustling up the stairs. As you reach the loft, you feel your breath hitch in your throat at the sight of the decorations.
The room is filled with twinkling lights, giving off a dreamy atmosphere. The tables are adorned with white tablecloths and celestial-themed centerpieces, adding to the starry ambiance. The walls are adorned with streamers of various shades of dark blue and black, resembling the color of the sky after the sun goes down. The entire space has an almost whimsical touch.
“Oh wow…” you glance around the room in disbelief, overwhelmed with happiness. You let a shaky breath escape your lips, “You…you guys did all of this for me?”
“Is it someone else’s birthday and we don’t know it?” A voice speaks up from behind you…Buck. You whip around and catch sight of your best friend hustling up the loft stairs, “Cause the cake says (y/n)…and that’d be a real pain to change.”
A smile curls at your lips as you playfully roll your (e/c) eyes, “Ha. Ha. Where’d you learn that joke? The back of a cereal box?”
Buck’s hand plops down onto the top of your head as he ruffles your (h/c) hair, causing it to become messy.
“Hey!”
Buck laughs and walks over beside Eddie. You grumble to yourself as you attempt to fix your hair. While you’re doing this, Bobby quietly grabs the chocolate cake he’s prepared and carefully walks over to you.
“Happy birthday to you…” Your head snaps around as you hear Bobby begin to sing, your eyes widening at the sight of the cake.
The rest of the 118 starts to chime in, “Happy birthday dear, (y/n)…” Bobby holds the cake out in front of you, and the reflection of the candle on the cake flickers in your eyes.
“Happy birthday to you!” With a deep breath, you close your eyes and gently blow the candle out…
“What’d ya wish for?” Chimney questions, taking the pan from Bobby as he starts to cut slices of cake for everyone.
For a moment, your gaze drifts over to Buck…his face contorted in a smile at something that Eddie’s said. The outer corners of his eyes are crinkled from how hard he’s smiling. You can’t help it as your heart flutters in your chest at the sight.
Of course, it’s right then Buck would avert his attention to you. Your gazes lock briefly…you can feel the hair on the back of your neck raise as your cheeks take on a slight twinge of pink. Coughing, you avert your attention back in the direction of Chimney.
“If I told you, then it wouldn’t come true. Do you want that for me, Chim? For my wish to die.” You joke, attempting to cover the flustered expression on your face.
Bobby smiles as he rolls his eyes at your behavior, letting Chimney place a piece of cake on his plate. Chimney places a piece onto his plate, “You know, this whole surprise party idea was Buck’s, believe it or not.”
His brown eyes meet yours as he places a piece of cake on your plate, “The man is a menace when he gets a clipboard.”
The group can’t help but chuckle at Chimney's comment, Hen and Eddie giving Buck a sly smile. Meanwhile, Buck’s face turns a light shade of red in embarrassment. You smile in amusement at Chim’s teasing.
Buck clears his throat, trying to change the subject, “Anyway…” he mutters, a hint of redness still apparent on his cheeks as he approaches Chimney. “Give me a slice of cake.”
Chimney dramatically groans before plopping a piece down on Buck’s plate, “There you go, buckaroo.”
Buck looks at him unamused as he strides toward you, his voice quiet so only you can hear him.
“C’mon…” He walks over to the emergency exit door. Your brows furrow in confusion as you cautiously trail behind him, cake still in hand.
“Uhh…where are we going?” You question, watching as Buck uses his behind to open the door. He brings his finger to his lips, silently shushing you.
“You’ll see…” The two of you start up the stairs, the noise from the party slowly fading into the background as you get closer to the roof. Your mind is filled with curiosity and anticipation as you follow him, your guys' steps echoing throughout the stairwell.
Reaching the top of the stairs, he pushes open the door and steps outside onto the roof of the firehouse. The warm night air of L.A. surrounds you as you step outside, the heavy door closing behind you. The only noise provided being the sounds of the city off in the distance.
Buck walks to the edge of the roof that overlooks the city, taking in the bright lights. He sets his plate of cake down on the parapet surrounding the roof, he puts his hands in his pockets. There’s a small, almost contemplative smile on his face.
“You better have a good reason for dragging me away from my party, Buckley.” You jokingly tease, settling yourself beside him. You rest your elbows on the stone parapet, turning your attention towards Buck.
He glances at you from the corner of his eye as you speak, his eyebrows raising in amusement. He lets out a small chuckle as he turns to fully face you.
“Oh come on, am I not allowed to have a private moment with you on your birthday.” He teases, a wide smile on his face.
He slowly takes a step closer to you, nervously rubbing at the back of his neck. The smile on his face is coy like he’s got something up his sleeve.
“I uh, wanted to be the first one to give you your birthday present.”
Your eyebrows raise at his words. He-he got you a gift? A wave of curiosity fills your mind as you wonder what he could have possibly gotten you…
He reaches into his back pocket, his hand emerging with a small, crumpled-up black velvet bag. He holds it out to you, a sheepish grin on his face, “Here ya go. Happy birthday.”
You tentatively reach out and take the bag, your heart skipping a beat as your fingers brush against his. Your heart pounding in anticipation as you bring the bag closer to you.
You slowly open the small bag, your eyes widening as you peek inside. Reaching inside, your fingers brush against something cold and metal. You glance up at Buck curiously…just what exactly did he get you?
Holding the object in your hand, you raise it to eye level so you can see it properly. Your breath catches in your throat as you get a good look at the item in front of you. It’s a delicate golden necklace, a small sunshine charm with your initials engraved on it dangling from the center…
Your heart involuntarily skips a beat at the sight of the necklace, any words instantly dying in your throat. You look up at Buck, your eyes meeting his with a look of complete shock and awe on your face.
Buck smiles back at you, a hint of shyness in his expression. He looks almost nervous as if he’s waiting for you to say something, “You, uh, like it?” he asks, a small bit of uncertainty in his tone.
You open and close your mouth a few times, struggling to find the words. You’re completely stunned by the gift, your heart swelling with emotions. After a moment, you manage to find your voice.
“I…I-It’s beautiful..” you whisper. “I love it.”
Buck’s crooked smile widens, his nervous expression turning to one of pride. He clears his throat, his eyes studying you for a moment, “Do you want me to put it on you?”
Your heart nearly beats out of your chest at his question, the idea of having him put the necklace on you making your heart race in your chest. It’s such a simple, innocent act…and yet, here you are feeling like this. A small shiver runs down your spine as you look up at him; the butterflies in your stomach back in full gear.
“Would you?”
Buck’s eyes seem to gleam at your question, “Yeah, of course. Turn around for me.” he replies, his voice soft.
You spin around slowly, your back now facing him. Your heart is pounding like crazy, every fiber of your being filled with anticipation as you feel him step up right behind you. Buck basically pressed against your back. You feel his fingers brush against the nape of your neck, his warm touch sending jolts of electricity shooting throughout your body. You have to refrain from involuntarily shivering as he leans closer to you.
Buck is incredibly gentle as he brings the necklace to your neck. You feel the cool gold of the necklace against your skin, the metal sending another shiver down your spine. His fingers graze the back of your neck, his nails brushing against your skin as he carefully fastens the clasp.
The feeling of his touch against your skin is enough to almost drive you insane. Your heart thundering in your chest as you desperately try to control yourself.
Slowly, you turn around to face him, one of your hands instantly reaching up to touch the necklace that’s now sitting delicately on your collarbone. As you look up at Buck, you notice the way he’s staring down at you, his eyes taking in the sight of you with the beautiful necklace around your neck.
Buck stares down at you for a moment, his eyes taking in the way the necklace hangs across your collarbone as you toy with it with your fingers. He seems unable to tear his gaze away like you’re a piece of art that he’s admiring.
After a moment, he seems to catch himself, and he clears his throat softly, “It, uh, looks good on you…” he mutters quietly.
A small smile immediately forms on your face at his words, your chest fills with a warm, fuzzy feeling. You couldn’t deny that knowing he bought this and put it on you sent butterflies through your stomach, “Thank you...”
Buck’s smile warms at your response. He reaches out and gently fiddles with the necklace, his fingers brushing against your skin as he toys with the small sunshine charm, “I…I was hoping you’d like it. I wanted to get you something special for your birthday.”
You feel your stomach flutter as his fingers keep brushing against your skin, the sensations overwhelming you. You swallow down the lump in your throat, trying to compose yourself as you speak again. “It’s-it’s absolutely perfect, Buck. I’m so grateful you got it for me.”
Buck’s eyes meet yours as you speak, he seems to study you for a moment. He’s still standing incredibly close to you, so close that you can practically feel his body heat and breath on your face. The butterflies in your stomach are fluttering wildly, your heart pounding in your chest…you break your gaze away and look back towards the rooftop door.
“We…we should uh, get back to the party before—”
However, before you can finish, Buck slowly reaches his hand out and places it on your cheek; his touch sending another jolt through your body. He gently guides you to look back at him, his blue eyes locking with yours. You can see the fire in them, a hint of something in his gaze that you can’t quite decipher.
“I-I want to give you one more thing..” he says, his voice quieter than before.
Your heart skips a beat at his words, the thought of another present from Buck sends even more anticipation through you. Your mind races, unable to even fathom what it could be…you nod at his words, your own voice now a whisper.
“Yeah?”
Buck nods in response, his thumb gently caressing your cheek in the process. He hesitates for a moment, almost as if he’s debating how to proceed, “Just- just close your eyes. I want this to be a surprise.”
Your mind is spinning as he speaks, your thoughts racing a mile a minute. You give him a tiny nod, the anticipation making your hands shake. You close your eyes like he asked, your mind racing with a million different questions.
Buck’s touch disappears from your face for a moment, your heart clenches at the loss of contact. You hear him shifting, his body moving and his feet shuffling against the roof. After a moment, you feel his touch on your cheek again, his hand moving back to its original place. He gently guides your head towards him.
As you keep your eyes closed, your heart is practically racing out of your chest as you wait for what’s about to happen. Then suddenly, you are completely overwhelmed with the scent of him, the intoxicating scent of his cologne filling your nose.
He lets out a shaky breath, “You-you mean the world to me…” His tone is slightly pleading as if he’s begging you to trust him.
You’re tempted to open your eyes, curiosity making you itch to see what he’s about to do..your mouth opens as you start to question what he’s doing—
But before you can speak, you’re interrupted by a feeling of his soft lips pressed against yours. Despite being told to keep your eyes closed, they immediately shoot open. All thought leaves your mind as he kisses you, your body instantly responding to his touch. He’s incredibly gentle, his lips softly moving against yours like he’s afraid to push you too far.
You feel his hand on your cheek drift up into your hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. he gently tilts your head back, the action pushing the kiss even deeper. Your mind is overwhelmed with sensations, the feeling of his body against yours, of his lips moving in unison with yours; your eyes flutter back shut.
You raise your hands instinctively, bringing them to his torso and clutching onto the soft fabric of his henley shirt. The need for air becomes too much, causing you two to break apart from one another.
Buck’s breath is shaky as he rests his forehead against yours. Your faces are still just centimeters away from each other. You slowly open your eyes, your vision still slightly blurred by the shock of what just happened. His eyes stare back at you, a mixture of emotions swirling behind them.
He looks completely flustered, his expression filled with a mixture of awe and slight worry. His hand is still on the side of your face, his other hand resting on the dip of your waist; he’s still holding you incredibly close.
You’re both quiet for a moment, neither of you wanting to be the first to say anything. As your heart pounds, your mind still struggling to process how this just happened. Buck finally breaks the silence, clearing his throat and loosening his grip on you.
“I-I’m sorry I…I couldn’t stop myself... I just…” he mutters, his voice shaky and filled with a hint of uncertainty, he looks like he’s scared you’re going to hate him for what he just did.
You’re frozen for a moment, still trying to recover from the shock of what just happened. However, you can’t ignore the fact that as shocked as you are, you absolutely loved every second of that kiss. Your heart flutters and you bring your hand up to his cheek, your fingers caressing his skin gently.
“Don’t…Don’t apologize..”
Buck’s eyes widen slightly at your words, shock, and relief appearing on his face as he realizes that you’re not mad. He gently leans his face into your hand as you touch his cheek, his body relaxing as he realizes that you’re not going to yell at him.
“You, uh, you’re not upset that I did that..?” he says, some of the shakiness still in his tone.
You almost scoff at how ridiculous that sounds. You’re the exact opposite of upset, and it shocks you that he doesn’t know that.
“Upset? No way.” you reply, your heart still fluttering at the idea of him doing that, of him kissing you so intensely, “Why would I be upset about something that I’ve wanted for so long..?”
Buck’s eyes widen even more at your words, his expression morphing from slight shock to disbelief.
“Y-you-you’ve-you want-” He seems momentarily stunned, like he’s not quite believing what you just said. He swallows the lump in his throat.
“You-you’ve wanted me to do that?” He asks, his voice a tad bit quiet.
You nod slightly at his words, heat rising back up to your cheeks. It’s almost comical how surprised he looks that you wanted him to kiss you, or that you like it. You smile slightly when you respond.
“Why else do you think my heart’s beating a mile a minute?” You tease. “Of course, I’ve wanted you to do that..”
Buck’s expression changes even more at your words, now shifting from slight shock to pure bewilderment. He’s looking at you as if he’s not quite sure he’s hearing everything right.
“B-but…you’ve never said anything to me..never gave me any kind of hint..” His tone is still slightly hesitant.
You sigh, leaning against the parapet and looking back out at the city, “I…I never thought that you felt the same.”
“You thought…you thought I didn’t feel that way?” he asks, his words filled with disbelief.
You sheepishly nod at his words.
“I…I mean...yeah. I didn’t think you were at all interested in me. Honestly, I thought you just saw me as a friend.” You reply, your heart clenching at the realization that you had both been pining for each other this whole time, both thinking the other didn’t want more.
Buck looks at you for a moment, completely stunned at that information. His eyes are wide, the look of surprise still etched on his face as he speaks again.
“So what you’re telling me is…we’ve been idiots this whole time..?”
You nearly laugh at the statement, realizing that he was completely right. You both thought the other didn’t feel that way when in reality, both of you wanted the same exact thing.
“Yeah…yeah I guess we have...” You gently respond.
Buck continues to stare at you for a moment longer before small, toothy grin forms on his face. He shakes his head slightly, he can’t stop himself from letting out a small chuckle at the ridiculousness of the situation. You can’t help but laugh along as you slide your other hand down and intertwine yours with Buck’s.
You two laugh for a moment; You have both been pining for each other this whole time and had really no idea. After a second you both manage to regain somewhat of your composure, Buck’s smirk still on his face.
“You ready to get back to your party?”
You let out a dramatic sigh before rolling your eyes. At the moment, the last thing you really wanted to do was go back to your party and pretend everything was normal. Hell, you’d just kissed your best friend who you’d had a major crush on for years.
“Ugh. Yeah... I guess we should.” You say, your words laced with a hint of playful sarcasm.
Buck chuckles under his breath at your sarcasm, clearly amused at your demeanor. He gives your hand a small squeeze as he responds, “C'mon. The faster we get back down there, the faster we can leave and go do something else..”
Your heart flutters at the way he emphasizes the words “Go do something else”. You know exactly what he’s referring to, he wanted to be alone with you as much as you wanted to be alone with him. You nod slightly at him, smiling as you respond.
“That sounds like an absolutely fantastic idea…”

Wordcount: 2.5k
Warnings: angst, fluff, swearing possibly, mentions of violence and injuries
A/N: This was inspired by @megalony Late Night Fights. I hope you guys enjoy this, thank you for the support.
____
The four of them sat at Eddie's kitchen table that morning. Both Evan and Y/N had the day off, Chris was going over to a friends house for a sleepover today. And Eddie decided to pick up an extra shift at the fire house.
"You know you didn't have to take that shift Eddie." Y/N says as he pours coffee into a turmos mug. It was rare that the three of them had a day off at the same time. So naturally she was a little disappointed when Eddie said he chose to do an extra 12 hours.
"I didn't realize you were off today, I'm sorry mi amour." He says dropping a kiss on the top of her head.
"You got all your stuff ready Chris?" Chris nods at Eddie's question and then gets up to go grab his things.
"You know there's no harm in taking a day off right. I mean you've been working a lot lately." Evan pitches in concern evident in his voice. As he puts his mug down on the table.
"You should be taking better care of yourself Eds." She said putting a hand on her stomach, masking a slight discomfort that made it's appearance.
"You two are blowing this way out of proportion." Eddie had been acting off lately. He was shorter tempered and he had been picking up a lot of extra hours. He was tired and overall frustrated often. They were both a little worried. Y/N hadn't seen him act this way for a long time. She was getting really worried.
The last time Eddie had acted this way she ended up getting a call say that he needed to be bailed out of jail. But she hadn't seen any bruises or marks on him, maybe she was over reacting.
"Why don't you call in sick?" Evan proposed, only to receive a scoff from Eddie.
"I said I'd be there, Buck. Come on, Chris!" Eddie gave them both a quick kiss before his son finally entered the room. Y/N and Evan said goodbye to Chris and just like that the house became quiet.
"He's acting strange right?" She asked Buck, her hands wrapped around the mug as she stared at the dark liquid before glancing at him.
"Yeah, he is." Evan confirmed.
~~~
Y/N stood in the kitchen cutting vegetables for supper. Two hands made their way to her waist and then her front. Buck leaned his chin on her shoulder as she hummed along to the song playing.
"Why don't you go sit?"
"Babe, I'm fine." She told him pausing to look up at him, kissing him on the cheeks.
"You were sick all morning." He presses. She put the knife down and turned in his arms so she was facing him. Her hands came up to cup his jaw.
"I promis, I feel fine. Good even." She spoke softly giving him her full attention. He let out a sigh searching for something unusual in her features only to find nothing.
"You promis? And if you start to feel even a little off you'll go sit?"
"Yes baby, I promise." She gave him a sweet smile and a kiss on the cheek.
"Well, then let me help. What can I do?" Evan asked going over to the sink to wash his hands.
"You can take over cutting while I get started on the sauce." She took a pot out and placed it beside the one with water. They didn't get to cook together often. It was often Buck or Y/N never Eddie. They were scared they wouldn't have a kitchen by the end of it, or taste buds.
By the time everything was ready it was 8pm. Late compared to 'normal' hours but their schedule was so weird that they got used to eating at odd hours.
"Shouldn't Eddie be home by now?" Y/N asked looking up at Evan with worry.
"His call must have run late. It happens all the time." He reassured her wrapping a hand around her waist and hugging her, his head going down to her neck.
"We should wait for him."
They ended up eating an hour and a half later. Without Eddie.
It was 11pm when Y/N wanted to go to bed but was to busy paissing their living room.
"This can't just be a call Evan."
"Sweetheart-"
"Theres no way he has been on a call for over 3 hours!" He was also getting worried, he just didn't want to show it. It wasn't impossible, but another unit would have gotten there and they would have been able to go back to the station, and back home.
"Baby stop, please." He gently grabbed her arms stopping her movements.
"How about you go to bed-" she shook her head and open her mouth to protest but Evan stopped her.
"How about you go to bed and try to sleep, and I'll go down to the station and see what's going on." She let out a sigh, hesitating.
"Your exhausted and you have work in the morning, Sweetheart. I wasn't really asking." Evan made himself more clear. Her hands went to his biceps and his to her waist.
"Fine."
~~~
It was dark in the house when he came home. Using his hands to make sure he didn't run into anything.  When he reached the kitchen he turned the light over the sink on. He grabbed the first aid kit from the top of the fridge groaning from the pain it caused.
He took his shirt off letting it fall to the ground, he looked down spotting the dark bruises painting the various parts of his body. He took out some rubbing alcohol and cream setting them on the counter.
"Eddie?"
He turned around to find Y/N standing in the doorway of the kitchen. She was just about to fall asleep when she heard the front door.
"Baby where have you been? Why didn't you answer your phone?" She rushed forward only for her to stop a few feet away from him. A small gasp left her when she actually took the time to look at him.
"A call ran late, I'm sorry." He explained. She approached him gently running her fingure tips over a bruise on his stomach to which he winced.
"Eddie..." His name was spoken so softly he barely caught it.
"It was a rough one. It looks worse than it is, mi amour." He said, he put a hand on her arm trying to comfort her. But then she caught sight of his bloody and bruised knuckles. She took in a sharp breath standing up straighter. It all clicked in her head.
"You've been fighting again, haven't you?" She looked at him disappointment flooding her eyes.
"What? No, of course not." The slight hesitant in his voice told her otherwise.
"Edmundo, do not lie to me." She said angerly, tears welling up in her eyes despite her attempts to stop them. He took a deep breath closing his eyes and tilting his head slightly up.
He wasn't planning to do it again but a few weeks back an old buddy from back when he did illegal fighting contacted him. Said then needed someone because some guy left last minute. It was supposed to be a one time thing. But one turned to two, and two to three until it got out of hand.
"Baby-"
"Why!? Why would you possibly do that again?!" She was livid, rightfully so. She took a step back until she hit the kitchen island.
"It's complicated." He said looking back at her. Letting out a sigh, he didn't want to explain.
"Complicated? How could it be Complicated? This was in the past, we left it there, with the lawsuit, and the heartache and- and jail. We talked about this."
"It's not the same. I'm careful I know what I'm doing." He tries to explain, but it wasn't good enough.
"You also knew what you where doing when you broke that guys nose!" She yelled, not hearing the front door over their arguing.
"That's not fair."
"Look at yourself!" He swallowed hard. He was littered with cuts and bruises. He knew he shouldn't come home looking like this.
"Eddie?" Evan stood at the other end of the kitchen, his voice caused them both to look over at him.
Y/N kept a concern look on her face but a weight on her shoulders was lifted knowing that Buck was home and okay, it was one less thing to worry about. Eddie seemed surprised, he though Evan was sleeping.
"Thank God, your okay. I've been looking everywhere for you." Evan drops his keys on the counter and rushed to hug his boyfriend. Y/N letting out a sigh and ran a hand through her hair.
Eddie inhaled sharply as Buck hugged him and winced. He returned the affection and then pulled away a little.
"Buck." It was strained and said through gritted teeth because of the pain. When he finally pulled away he got a good look at Eddie.
"What the hell happened?" He said anger in his tone. When no one answered he turned to his girlfriend for help.
"You don't talk about fight club right?" She said sarcasticly causing Eddie to roll his eyes.
"What?" Bucks face filled with confusing looking between the two.
"He's fighting again." She explained moving to the other side of the island to create space between her and the boys.
"What!? Why?" He turns to Eddie brows furrowed, he wasn't there when he did the fights in the past. Y/N was. He had heard of some of them from her, like the one where he broke a guy's nose so bad he choked on a piece of cartilage.
"Can we please not have this conversation again." Eddie felt like they were going around in circles, and it didn't help when his girlfriend just pick up the conversation where they left off when Evan arrived.
"They know what there doing as much as you do. How do you know how it's going to end? Next time it could be you, and they won't stay to help you, they'll leave you there." She didn't want to fight with her boys tonight, not with all the stress that she was under. Today was supposed to be a good day, and it only seemed to take a turn for the worst.
"Y/N-"
"She's right, I thought you were donne with it Eddie." Evan cuts in, concern and confusion evident on his face and in his voice.
"Apparently not." She muttered her hand rubbing her temple
"Do you know how much you scared us tonight?" Evan tried to make him understand. Y/N started to feel a slight discomfort, but she was unsure from what.
"I'm sorry." He really did feel bad, he knew he was extremely late. The missed phone calls and texts were unlike him.
He fished his phone from his pocket and set it on the counter. The screen was shattered and the back metal panel was missing a few pieces falling out of the phone as he sets it down.
"Eddie you can't start doing this again, I wasn't there when you did it before but Y/N told me it got pretty brutal." Evan explained his concern about his past, scared that it might repeat.
"Look it's just a few fights, and they help. I come home and I'm not angry or impatient." Eddie tried to reassure them but it wasn't working. He ran a hand through his hair.
"No, you come home bloody and bruised. Like thats any better." Y/N pitched back in sarcasm lassed in her voice. A hand going to her stomach now understanding where the discomfort came from
"Eddie you can't keep doing this, not after tonight." Evan almost pleaded.
"You don't get it!" He argued back, getting more frustrated by the minute. Y/N winced gripping the counter with her free hand.
"Then explain." Evan continued to try and reason with him but nothing seemed to work.
"I can't!" Eddie shouted, the two boys to engrossed in their argument to see the clear pain their girl was in.
"This isn't healthy, I though you talked about it with your therapist." Buck continued to try and understand.
"Evan-" He was cut off by Y/N.
"Uhh! Will you two stop!" She was hunched over, one hand still on the counter for support the other on her stomach. A pained look on her face.
"Y/N?" Eddie turned to her and took a few steps in her direction.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Evan was extremely concerned. He rounded the island and stood beside her placing a hand on her hip.
"You two are stressing me."
"Mi amour, that can't be stress." Eddie gently rubs circles into her back.
"Since when does stress cause you pain?" Evan asked, she stood back up straight.
"Since I've been pregnant."
They both look at each other, wanting to have confirmation they heard the same thing.
"Pregnant?"
"Baby, are you sure?"
"I was hoping for a little more excitement boys." She remarked.
"Okay, how about we get you to the couch?" Eddie spoke looking at Evan.
Once she was seated on the couch the boys sat on either side of her.
"How long have you known?" She looked over at Buck and took a deep inhale.
"A week." She leaned back until her back hit the couch and looked between the boy. Trying to see both their reactions.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"I was going to, but you both have such a hectic work schedule that I was trying to find the right time. And then Eddie decided to work today so... This isn't how I wanted to tell you." She looked down at her hands in her lap.
She had spent so much time trying to plan the perfect moment. Tonight was gonna be it over some dinner the three of them. So they could figure out how to tell Chris together. But everything went wrong, it usually did with them. The execution was terrible, but the result was always good. Buck set a hand on her shoulder squeezing slightly to give her a little comfort.
"Where does it hurt?" Eddie asked concern painted on his face.
She looked over at him and set her hand on her lower stomach to show him. He reached over lifting her shirt a little and pressing a hand in different areas. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"I'm sorry baby." He apologized glancing between her and Evan. He hated that he had cause this. The stress and pain. He never wanted this to happen.
"It's just you two are constantly risking your life at work. I don't-"
"Hey, I get. I won't go to the fights anymore, I swear." Eddie stopped her to explain. He understood how much this meant to her to both of them. She gave him a small smile before it turned to a frown when she spotted Evan leaning down to be slightly above her stomach
"Now, you gotta stop giving trouble to your mom little guy." She let out a giggle running her hand in his hair only to lift his face and give him a kiss
"I don't think thats how it works Buck."

kinda emergency request. Okay so I’m super sick right now but I also had a lot to get done this week so I pushed through and ended up collapsing. It was a whole thing and I went to the hospital for a few days. I hadn’t eaten cause I was nauseous or slept because I was in pain. Any way would it be possible to get a Evan Buckley x reader on that. Sorry it’s a lot I know! But thank you!

PUSH THROUGH — E.BUCKLEY
Being sick and being a firefighter were two things that should never exist at the same time. when you push yourself a little too hard and end up collapsing, buck gets more than a little worried.

Being a firefighter was hard. It consisted of long and physically taxing workdays, a lot of mental scarring, and most prominently, a lack of regular breaks.
Some days were okay, slow days where you only had three or four calls in a 12 hour shift, but on days like today, where you had spent a grand total of 35 minutes in the station in the last six hours —with the first 20 of those being before your shift even started— being a firefighter felt like you were living through your own personal hell.
“Hey—” Buck nudges you with his elbow, and you blink your eyes shortly before turning your gaze to him with a small hum, breaking yourself out of your dissociation of staring blankly across the lounge room.
“I’ve been calling your name for like a whole minute, are you okay?” Buck’s eyebrows furrow in an obvious concern for your well being, a dark line forming at the top of the bridge of his nose that you fight the urge to smooth out with the pad of your thumb.
You might have an unprofessional friendship with Buck, but even you knew what boundaries were unsafe to cross.
“Mhm, I’m fine,” Your voice is distant even to yourself, like there’s a layer of cotton coating the inside of your ears.
“You’re not though,” Buck presses the back of his hand against your forehead to feel for a temperature, and you swat it away lightly with a small shake of your head, something that does nothing in disproving Buck’s theory. “You’re all quiet and warm, and I can see your hands shaking,”
You clasp your hands together at the last part, interlocking your fingers and holding them securely in your lap so that they can’t move without your consent anymore. “I’m fine,”
He sighs at your continued dismissal. It was obvious that you weren’t okay, so why would you keep trying to pretend like you were? “Have you eaten anything yet? Maybe you should eat something, you know, replenish all of those nutrients or whatever,”
“Okay Dr Buckley, no need to treat me like a five year old,” You roll your eyes with a short laugh, and a small smile etches it’s way onto Buck’s face at the flicker of your usual personality shining through despite your current condition. “I’m not hungry right now—” Buck opens his mouth to argue, but you hold up your hand before he can get a word out. “—But, i’ll see about getting something after our next call okay?”
He lets out a short breath through his nose as he concedes defeat, leaning back against the lounge sofa dramatically. “Fine, but I will make sure of that,”
You hope he doesn’t.
You’d tried to make yourself a piece of dry, bland toast this morning to quell the growing ache in your stomach from how little you’d fed yourself over the last two days, but it ended up with you feeling so sick that you had to take almost ten minutes of your morning doing deep breathing exercises so that you wouldn’t throw it back up again. You didn’t fancy a round two of that.
“Yes sir,” You exaggerate your response through a mock salute, and he gives you a short laugh and a pat of his hand on your lower thigh, squeezing it lightly.
You take the end in the conversation to relax against the back of the sofa, but as soon as the back of your head meets the top of the cushion the alarm rings out and you curse your own downfall.
Buck gives your leg another pat as he stands, holding out his hand for you to take so he can help you to your feet, something which, although you would keep to yourself to stop him from worrying about you even more, you were grateful for in the wake of your staticed vision in the first few second of you standing upright.
It wasn’t the worst call in the world, some driver going 10 over the speed limit managed to swerve off the road, over a patch of grass, and land right into somebodies six foot hedge lining their yard. All you had to do was winch the car out and check that the driver didn’t have any injures. It took less than half an hour.
But by the time you climbed back into the truck you felt like you had absolutely no energy left whatsoever, your shoulders slumped and your head limply resting backwards against the headrest in fatigue.
You were just absolutely exhausted, probably not helped by the rough nights you’d been having because of the phantom pains that seemed to plague you whenever you moved so much as an inch.
You considered asking to stay at the station for the next call, or just asking to stay at the station for the rest of your shift entirely at this point. You weren’t sure you’d have the physical capacities to be of any help at all, and if you were to tag along you’d just be a nuisance to everybody else as they tried to do their jobs.
You didn’t have to make that decision yourself, your body made it for you.
Buck had been extra attentive to you on the call, and that didn’t end once the truck parked in the station, he climbed down the truck’s side ladders before you, turning to hold out his hand so you’d have an extra balance point if you needed it whilst climbing down, but instead he was met with your clouded gaze, literally watching the moment your consciousness seems to slip away from your body as your foot misses one of the steps and causes to stumble forward.
He catches your weight in his arms before you can hit the floor, a panicked “Cap!” echoing through the engine bay as he lowers you to lie on the floor with your head resting on his thighs, all colour drained from your face as your eyes flicker underneath your eyelids.
Hen and Chimney are at your side before Bobby is, but he’s not far behind as the rest of the team circle you in concern.
“What happened?” Hen furrows her eyebrows as she watches Chimney check your heart rate, tightening a blood pressure cuff around your arm.
“I don’t know they just collapsed—” Buck’s voice mirrors his expression it’s panic.
“105/70, alright, lay them down on the floor, Eddie, put your jacket underneath their feet,” Hen removes the blood pressure cuff as Buck and Eddie rush to follow her instructions, and her and Chimney share a nod as they both confirm you’re not in any medical danger.
“Are they okay?” Buck hesitates to lie your head on the concrete floor, so his leaves his hand as a barrier between you and the floor.
“They’re fine, it’s just hypotension, do you know if they’ve eaten or drank anything today?” Hen puts a comforting hand on Buck’s shoulder to help calm his panic as the adrenaline from your collapse slowly dissipates.
“I asked if they were hungry earlier and they said they’d eat something later,” Buck presses his lips into a line, feeling mildly guilty about not pushing you to eat something earlier when he had the chance to.
Your head twitches in his hand before he has the time to drill himself into a spiral over it, and soon enough you’re squeezing your eyes shut tighter before flickering them open.
“There you are, welcome back to the land of the living,” Chimney rubs your shoulder with his hand as you wake, and promptly pushes you back to lying flat when you try to sit up. “No, stay there, you’ll only pass out again if you sit up too quickly,”
“What happened?” You squint your eyes under the harsh overhead lights, covering them with the back of your hand.
“You collapsed on the way out of the truck, gave us all a scare there for a moment,” Bobby crosses his arms as he steps into your line of sight, tone carrying reprimand but his expression laced in concern.
“Right… sorry,”
“Don’t apologise,” Bobby shakes his head shortly, “When was the last time you ate?”
“Uh…” You don’t know whether it’s the fact that you’ve just fainted, or the weird angle you’re currently at that’s making you slower than usual. “This morning,”
“It’s almost 4pm—” Buck’s voice announces you of his presence like he hasn’t been protecting your head from the concrete for the last five minutes with his hand, and you crane your head backwards to look up at him.
“I felt sick, I didn’t want to throw up everywhere that’s gross,” You groan slightly as your neck begins to ache. “Can I sit up now?”
“Slowly,” Hen takes your hand as she carefully pulls you to sit upright, and Buck remains on his knees behind you in case you need to lie back down again. “How are you feeling? Still lightheaded?”
“A little,” You rub the knuckle of your thumb over your forehead in an attempt to alleviate some of the tension lingering there, and Hen hums.
“Alright, it’s time for you to eat,” Buck places both of his hands on your shoulders as he stands, squeezing them softly before extending a hand out to help you back onto your feet, which you take without complaint.
“Okay,”
You let Buck lead you up to the open lounge with mild guilt written across your face. Guilt and embarrassment at the fact that you’d passed out in front of everyone.
“Okay, so we’ve got tomato and onion pasta bake, left over macaroni and cheese, uh…” Buck rifles through the fridge for what’s left of different Bobby creations over the last few days. “Ooh there’s lasagna in here, I might have to keep that for myself,”
He knows it’s not the funniest thing he’s ever said, but when he turns back to check on you, the way you’re sat blankly staring at the table doesn’t spell anything good.
“Hey,” Buck abandons his fridge endeavours with a small sigh, walking over to put his hand on your shoulder. “Are you alright? Really?”
You barely so much as acknowledge him, giving him a small hum as you rest your forehead on the palms of your hands. “I think I should go home…”
Your tone causes the worry to flood back into his features. “You have to eat something…”
“I don’t know if I can stomach it right now,” You close your eyes momentarily, slumping forward so your entire upper body weight is resting against your hands. “I still feel sick,”
He can’t really argue with you about that. Nauseousness was a pain in the ass. But that didn’t mean you didn’t need something in your body to help whatever deficit you were going through right now.
He takes a moment to think through his options, biting the inside of his cheek. “Uh… What about a protein shake? I’m pretty sure I left a few packets here somewhere—” Buck leaves your side to look through some of the kitchenette cupboards for protein shake packets he’d stoad hidden from the team.
“Ah,” He makes a sound of triumph as he retrieves them, holding them up above his head as he’s crouched behind the kitchen island so you can see them. “We have…” He turns the packets in his hand one by one. “Chocolate, banana, vanilla, strawberry, and… blueberry, take your pick,”
You give him a look that tells him you’d rather not have any of them, and a worry line forms in his forehead once more. “Come on… It’s like a milkshake, and you can drink it as slow as you want,” He walks back over to you slowly, the packets held out in his hands towards you so you can choose one. “Please? You’re starting to worry me for real now,”
You begrudgingly take one of the packets from his hands with a small sigh. His concern was appreciated, but it was also mildly daunting. You didn’t like the way his face furrowed when he was concerned about you, it didn’t suit him like smiling did.
“Thank you,” He takes the packet back from you once you’ve chosen which one you want, leaving the others discarded on the table as he prepares the drink for you. “Drink this and then go home and get some rest okay? I’ll drop by your apartment after the shift is over to check on you, and if you still feel really bad then we should go to the hospital,” His words are spoken unevenly as the exertion from shaking the drink canister reaches his vocal chords.
“I don’t need to go to the hospital Buck, I’m fine, i’ve just got the flu or something and pushed myself too hard,” You shake your head adamantly at his suggestion, and he mirrors it himself as he pours the drink into a glass and puts it on the table in front of you.
“Some people go to the hospital when they’ve got the flu and don’t push themselves too hard,” He points at the glass once it’s on the table. “Drink it,”
You oblige with a roll of your eyes, your first sip barely even considered one as you try and force yourself to swallow it through the invisible blockade in your throat.
“And maybe try and take a nap or something? You look exhausted,”
“Oh thanks, that makes me feel so much better,” a your voice is dripping with sarcasm, and it leaves a small smile on Buck’s face.
“You know what I mean,” He shakes his head lightly as he stashes away the remaining protein shake packets. “How much sleep did you get last night anyway?”
He asks you the question right as you go to take another sip of the shake, and you force yourself to swallow it uncomfortably to answer him. “Maybe like three hours? I had a really bad migraine and my lower back was hurting,”
Buck sighs loudly as he pulls out a chair to sit behind you, and he opens his mouth to say something, but you beat him to it.
“I know I know, that’s not good, i’ll work on it okay?”
“That’s all I can ask,” He gives you a small smile with a shrug of his shoulders.
You didn’t have to think about complying to Buck’s suggestion of going home, and after a long hour of trying to digest the protein shake in front of you, that’s exactly what you did.
The station felt remarkably quieter without you there, but that was arguably because everyone was still shrouded in a combined worry for your well being that left them more solemn than usual, their usual banter getting lost in the process.
Once the shift was over, Buck kept his word in heading straight to your apartment, knocking the door with no answer.
He questions whether he got the number right at first, but he’s been to your apartment enough times to know that he hasn’t just stumbled to the wrong door. And the longer it stays shut in his face the more worried he gets.
So he tries the door handle, and it opens, meaning you’d left your apartment unlocked.
He calls your name a few times as he walks in, a small rush of adrenaline making its way through his veins at the slight possibility that something could’ve happened in the few hours since you’d been home alone.
A small breath of relief escapes him as he finds you.
You were circled up into yourself on your couch, TV left on standby as you slept in what Buck assumed to be an extremely deep sleep.
How you manage to make that tiny sofa look like the most comfortable place in the world he doesn’t know, but you seem to be more than happy wedged into the corner with a decorative pillow clutched tightly against your chest.
It’s a welcome sight after everything you’d been through today, and Buck rifles around to find a blanket to throw over you before taking a seat on the other end of the couch and settling in for an evening of watching random movies on your TV until you woke up.
Even if that meant him staying overnight.

you always knew loving buck wasn’t going to be simple. he was magnetic in a way that pulled you in, but with that same intensity meant there was always something just outside of your reach. a sense of unpredictability.
from the moment you met him, there was a charge that made everything with him feel alive. the late night conversations, the lazy mornings, the spontaneous laughter. it was all beautiful, but it was never easy. not with his job, not with the constant risks he took every single day.
and yet, here you were.
tonight, that all too familiar feeling crept back in, that gnawing unease you’d been trying to push down. buck wasn’t home yet. you sat on the couch, staring at the clock as it ticked away the minutes, trying to ignore the worst case scenarios playing on repeat in your mind. it was past midnight, and your phone was quiet. too quiet.
this wasn’t the first time you’d sat in the dark, wondering if he was okay, wondering if tonight would be the night he didn’t come home. that was the reality of loving someone like buck. someone who ran toward the danger, who put himself in harm’s way for others. you admired that about him, the way he cared so deeply, but sometimes it left you hopeless.
a sigh escaped your lips as you ran a hand through your hair, the tension building in your chest. you hated this feeling, hated waiting like this. most of the time, you could manage it, push it to the back of your mind. but tonight? tonight felt different. maybe because of how late it was or the heavy silence in the apartment, but something inside you twisted painfully as the seconds dragged on.
just as you were about to grab your phone and text him again, the sound of keys in the lock jolted you out of your thoughts. the door opened slowly and buck stepped inside, his shoulders slumping with exhaustion. relief flooded through you at the sight of him, he was okay. he was safe. but the knot in your chest didn’t unravel right away.
“hey,” he said softly, closing the door behind him and tossing his keys on the entryway table. he looked worn out, his face smudged with soot, his hair a mess. “i’m sorry i’m late.”
you swallowed the lump in your throat, trying to keep your voice steady. “you didn’t text,” you said, sharper than you meant to. it wasn’t anger, more like the fear spilling out before you could control it.
buck’s brow furrowed as he walked toward you. “i know. i’m sorry. we had a crazy call, and i didn’t have a chance to check my phone. i should’ve texted as soon as i could. i didn’t mean to make you worry.”
the apology should have been enough, but the words didn’t soothe the ache you’d been carrying. you stood up from the couch, crossing your arms over your chest as you looked at him. “i know you can’t always text me, buck. i get that. but…you don’t understand what it’s like sitting here, not knowing if something’s happened to you. not knowing if you’re okay.”
his expression softened, and he reached for your hand, but you pulled away, stepping back. the space between you suddenly felt wider, like there was something unspoken lingering there, something neither of you had addressed yet.
“i can’t keep doing this,” you whispered, your voice wavering despite your best efforts to keep it steady. “every time you walk out that door, i wonder if it’s going to be the last time and tonight… tonight i couldn’t shake the feeling that something had happened.”
buck’s face fell, and he looked down at the floor, guilt flashing in his eyes. “i’m sorry,” he repeated, quieter this time. he took a deep breath, his voice thick with regret. “i didn’t mean to scare you. i didn’t–”
“it’s not just tonight,” you cut in, shaking your head. the frustration in your chest bubbled up before you could stop it. “it’s every night. every time you go on a call. i’m terrified, buck. terrified that one day you won’t come home. and i don’t know how much longer i can handle it.”
there. you’d said it. the words hung heavy in the air between you, and the silence that followed felt deafening.
buck looked up at you then, his eyes filled with something you couldn’t quite read. guilt? pain? he took a step closer, his hands reaching out for you again, but this time, you didn’t pull away. his fingers wrapped around yours, warm and familiar, grounding you in the moment.
“i know,” he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. “i know it’s hard. i know i don’t always make it easy for you.” he paused, searching for the right words. “but i love what i do and i love you. i don’t know how to make you feel better about this, about any of it, but i promise you, i’m always going to do everything i can to come back to you.”
you blinked back the tears threatening to spill over, your heart aching at the sincerity in his voice. “but what if one day you can’t?” you asked, your voice cracking. “what if one day something happens and you don’t come back?”
his grip on your hand tightened, and he pulled you closer, his free hand coming up to cup your cheek. “i can’t promise you that nothing will ever happen,” he said softly, his thumb brushing across your skin in a gentle, comforting motion. “i wish i could, but you know i can’t. but what i can promise is that i’ll always fight to come back. no matter what.”
you felt a tear slip down your cheek, and buck wiped it away with his thumb, his eyes never leaving yours. there was so much emotion there, so much love, fear, and vulnerability and for a moment, you didn’t know what to say.
“i don’t want to lose you,” you whispered, your voice barely audible.
“you won’t,” he replied, his voice firm but gentle. “i’m right here. i’m always going to be right here.”
he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you against his chest, and you let yourself sink into him. his warmth, his strength. it was all so familiar, so comforting, and for a moment, the fear melted away. you could hear the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath your ear, and it grounded you, tethered you to this moment.
you didn’t know how long you stayed like that, wrapped up in each other, but eventually, you pulled back just enough to look up at him. his hands slid down to rest on your waist, his fingers tracing small, absentminded circles on your skin.
“i hate that i’m so scared all the time,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. “but i love you, buck. so much. and that’s why it’s so hard.”
he nodded, his eyes softening as he leaned down to press his forehead against yours. “i know,” he said quietly. “and i’m sorry i’ve made it harder. i don’t always think about what it’s like for you, waiting here, wondering. but i swear, i’ll try to be better. i’ll do whatever i can to make this easier for you.”
you closed your eyes, letting his words wash over you. it was a promise, one you knew buck would keep. he was reckless at times, but he was also loyal to a fault. if he said he’d try, you believed him.
“i just need you to talk to me,” you said softly. “let me in when you’re scared or when something’s bothering you. don’t just keep it to yourself.”
buck smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he nodded. “deal. but only if you promise me the same thing.”
you let out a soft laugh, your chest feeling a little lighter now. “okay. deal.”
he leaned down and kissed you then, slow and sweet, like he was savoring the moment. when he pulled back, there was a quiet intensity in his gaze that made your heart skip a beat.
“i love you,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “and i’m not going anywhere. you’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not.”
you smiled, feeling a wave of warmth wash over you. “i like it,” you whispered, wrapping your arms around his neck. “i love you, too.”
Tumblr media
later that night, you lay in bed with buck beside you, his arm draped over your waist, holding you close. the soft rise and fall of his chest was soothing, a quiet reminder that he was here, safe and sound. you pressed yourself closer to him, letting the warmth of his body chase away the lingering fear that had settled in your bones earlier.
buck shifted beside you, his fingers brushing against your arm as he spoke, his voice low and sleepy. “i know it’s hard,” he murmured. “but we’ll figure it out. together.”
you nodded, your heart full as you closed your eyes. “yeah,” you whispered. “together.”
and for now, that was enough.

Dark! Evan Buckley Masterlist
Part 2
Summary: (Y/n) decides she and Evan need to take a break when his overbearing nature becomes a bit too much to handle. But Evan will get her back in any way he can.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
"I- I can't do this, Evan."
Tears trekked down (Y/n)'s face despite how badly she tried to rub them away and drag her nails down her skin to somehow calm herself down. She could feel her arms trembling and her legs felt like they were turning to stone, locking her in place even though everything in her was telling her to run.
She could feel her palms sweating and each breath she took ran away from her until she was practically gasping.
Her arms moved to coil around her waist but when Evan took a step closer to her, she managed to take a step back and keep an air of distance between them.
She couldn't let him get close. She couldn't let Evan reel her back in and trap her in his web.
"Do what? You can't be with me anymore? Are you telling me you don't love me anymore?" There was an air of ridicule in his sarcastic voice and the way his upper lip curled made (Y/n) wince and coil in on herself.
"You know I love you." Defiance broke out in her body and she curled her hands into fists, cutting them through the air to wave them at her sides like she wanted to lash out and hit something.
Evan knew that. He knew (Y/n) loved him, she loved him more than she had ever loved anyone in her entire life, but she couldn't keep doing this.
She couldn't constantly be under his surveillance, being observed and watched and checked on every moment of the day. She couldn't spend each day telling him her plans so he knew exactly what she was doing and where she was going. (Y/n) couldn't be suffocated and be the source of obsession for Evan.
Their relationship was the best thing that ever happened to her, but it was also consuming and twisting and turning Evan into someone she didn't recognise. He was becoming obsessive and that wasn't the person he was when he was with everyone else.
"So why are you doing this?" The way Evan flung his fist out into the wall had (Y/n) recoiling towards the front door. She knew he wouldn't lash out specifically at her, he would never hit her. But she didn't know what he would do when she tried to walk out that door.
He could block or barricade her inside. He could grab her and hold her and effectively pin her down so she couldn't leave. He had ten times more strength and force than she did and (Y/n) didn't want to think what measures Evan would go to if pushed.
"You're suffocating me." Tears streamed down (Y/n)'s face as she tried not to hiccup through her words. "We need a break- I need some space, just for a while."
"If you love me we don't need a break-"
"I need space!"
"From me?!" Evan's voice made (Y/n) feel like she was going insane. He looked at her as if she were holding someone's severed head in her hand. As if she had said something so utterly strange and ludacris that it couldn't possibly be true.
How could she need space from him? Didn't she love him? Couldn't she see that Evan couldn't breathe without her? Let alone live without seeing (Y/n) each and every day. She couldn't leave him. She couldn't walk away, Evan needed her and he knew she wanted and needed him just as much.
"Yes." She croaked, moving her hand to brush away the tears. "You need to- Evan you need to let me do things on my own. Let me be by myself, let me think for myself and calm down, please. Please, Evan."
The way his upper lip curled had (Y/n) shrinking in on herself and she hated to see his reddened eyes streaming tears like that. She hated how distressed she was making him and how he could barely take a proper breath from the anger radiating through him.
She leaned to one side and picked up the bag she had hastily packed mid-argument with Evan. She clung to the bag like it was her lifeline, her ticket to a better space of mind and a path that would stop her from feeling confined, controlled and possessed.
"You- you want me to let you walk out and leave me? When I don't know if you're even coming back? No. Baby you can't do this-"
"I'll see you later."
"(Y/n) no!"
Shudders tore through her body and a cry broke past her lips when she heard something smash. She didn't know what it was and she didn't want to know. Her trembling body bolted out the front door before Evan had chance to reach for her and pull her back.
She wasn't walking out of his life forever. She wasn't even saying they had to break up. They just needed some time to themselves. Time to figure things out, to calm down and see if things could change for the better.
But Evan didn't want things to change.
His fist rammed into the wall harsh enough to dent the plaster and split his knuckles open. Blood splattered up the back of his hand as a scream tore past his lips.
He didn't want things to change. (Y/n) was his girl. He loved her. He loved every bone in her body and he wanted her in every single sense of the word. They were meant to be together and they completed each other. Why did she want to change that? Why did she think how he loved her wasn't right or wasn't enough?
She had to come back to him. He couldn't live without her.
The sound of her phone vibrating on the desk sent a shockwave rattling through (Y/n)'s heart.
She didn't want to look. She didn't want to glance down and see who was calling, because she already knew. The way her heart thundered against her chest and jumped up into her throat told (Y/n) all she needed to know. Instinct told her who was calling and she knew she couldn't answer. She had to protect herself and abstain from the phone.
Her hands began to scratch up and down the back of her neck, drawing lines into her skin in a vain attempt to calm herself down, but it wasn't working.
She had to look.
Her eyes darted down to the phone on the desk and she swallowed down whatever cry was burning at the back of her throat when she read the name.
'Babe <3'
She hadn't even changed his name in her contacts. That showed how much she still loved Evan and the faith she had that they might be able to patch things back together soon. Somehow.
She watched her phone, scrutinising the screen until the call finally ended and the missed call notification popped up on the screen. But almost immediately after, (Y/n) watched the texts light up her screen. One after the other. Again and again, matching all the other texts she had ignored and ceased to reply to.
Her eyes scanned the room but she could barely take note of anyone around her at work. All she noticed was the tears blurring her vision and the way her body was trembling back and forth, her lungs unable to take in a proper breath.
With her phone swiped from the desk, (Y/n) scrambled from her seat and tried to make a brisk walk towards the toilets. She needed a minute to compose herself and if she didn't look over those messages now, she would only sit and stew and worry about them all afternoon. Her mind wouldn't be on her work, it would be forever stuck on Evan. As usual.
She was glad no one else was in the toilets when she got in there and subsequently locked herself in the end cubicle. The aircon was on in the toilets but (Y/n) already felt like she was starting to boil over like she was a wax work starting to melt.
Her hands shook as she unlocked her phone and tried to scroll through the messages.
3 missed calls from 'Babe <3'
*Baby we can't keep going on like this, I need to talk to you. Answer my calls, please. x
*I'm going out of my mind here, I don't know what to do. We have to talk. x
*You can't keep on ignoring me, just let me talk to you. I'll do better, I'll do anything. Please!!! x
(Y/n) wasn't sure how else she could get the message through to Evan that he was suffocating her. She told him she needed space, but bombarding her with at least five phone calls a day and a dozen messages didn't count as giving her any space.
She could understand Evan's state of panic, she really could. He was insecure in relationships and now their relationship was in limbo and Evan didn't know what to do. But if he just gave in and let (Y/n) have a few days to herself, things would be easier. For the last two weeks he had messaged and tried to call every day.
(Y/n) had the good sense not to tell Evan where she was staying, although she knew he was doing his best to try and find out where she was. If he found out, he would be round like a shot and he wouldn't leave until they were back together, one way or another.
Things were just moving too fast. (Y/n) couldn't handle the overprotective nature that flared up in Evan once he had fallen for her. He worried about her, he wanted to know where she was, what she was doing, who she was going out with. If her phone pinged he wanted to see who was messaging her. If he didn't know where she was he would message her until she told him.
When they were together things were okay. (Y/n) loved Evan's loving nature and it was endearing how he only had eyes for her and wanted to wrap himself around her like a vine.
But (Y/n) hadn't long moved in with Evan when he started talking about the future and having a family together and wanting to get a proper home together rather than just his small apartment. (Y/n) wasn't sure she was ready for that yet. She didn't want to pause her career to have a baby right now, and she and Evan may be in love, but they hadn't been together for that long. A family was a big commitment and so was buying a home together.
(Y/n) could feel the panic dwelling up inside of her again when she reread the messages she had received today. She read them until the words were ingrained on her memory and flashed before her eyes when they closed. She could see the words dancing around in her mind and she couldn't prevent the whimper from leaving her lips.
Her body slumped down until her knees hit the tiled floor and she twisted to the side just in time to throw up into the toilet.
Walking out on Evan had put an immense strain on (Y/n)'s nerves. Her anxiety was going haywire, she could barely turn up to work without having a panic attack and the unease was constantly making her feel sick.
Tears trickled down her face and her stomach tensed and pulled inwards while her chest curved and imbedded around the toilet seat. She unconsciously started to rock back and forth as her throat burned and she felt like closing her eyes and curling up into a ball. She just wanted to disappear.
Her body shuddered and a groan ellicited from her lips when her phone vibrated on her lap again. Oh no. Another message.
Her hand trembled as she reached down for her phone and pulled away from the toilet, swiping her sleeve beneath her eyes so she could read the message clearly.
It wasn't Evan.
*Hey, we're having a little halloween fayre at the station next Saturday. It'd be great if you could tag along, we'd all love to see you. x
It was Bobby. When (Y/n) got together with Evan, she became close to his team, they were like another family to (Y/n). Bobby was always inviting her and Evan round for meals and the team invited her with them out to drinks and social events.
And whenever there was an event on at the station, (Y/n) always went along. But she had always been there was Evan's girlfriend, not just as a friend of the team.
But Bobby was asking her to go, the team wanted to see her, and (Y/n) loved the team. She wanted to see them, and if she went it might be a way to build some bridges between her and Evan and make sure things stayed okay between her and the team. Going might make things a little easier, and Bobby had asked so nicely, (Y/n) wasn't sure she could refuse.
Her sleeve swiped beneath her nose and she shifted round to sit on her bum rather than her knees which were now aching and turning numb. She leaned her weight back against the cubicle wall and tilted her head back, catching her breaths again to try and calm herself down. She would have to get back to work in a minute before anyone realised she had disappeared.
*I'll be there. x
***
The station was brimming with life and music and laughter.
It was strange to see such a place of professionalism and emergencies and dire situations seem so relaxed and laid back like this. A fayre wasn't the kind of thing one would expect to find at a fire station which was the centre of events and mishaps and stern situations and solutions.
(Y/n) smoothed down the creases in her dress and tightened her hand around her bag that hung off her arm. She could feel her nails piercing into the leather handle of her bag and she knew if she gripped any tighter there would be puncture marks forever indented into the leather.
Each breath she took seemed to run away without her and she could feel her stomach churning with indecision and panic. Adrenaline was constantly swarming through her blood. She couldn't do anything but panic.
What was Evan going to be like when he saw her? Would be be angry? Would he try and attach himself to her? Would be ignore her completely and pretend she didn't exist? Would he hound her and stick to her or make some kind of a scene? Surely not, since this was his work place and he was always professional when on shift.
(Y/n) didn't know what would be worse, having Evan attach himself to her or pretend she wasn't even here.
Her free hand started to scratch at the back of her neck as she walked in on trembling legs. Her eyes flitted about the station, taking in the little stalls lining the right side of the station so everyone would be away from the trucks and the ambulance, in case of an emergency.
People were milling about, looking at the different things on offer, the drinks, the craft stall, the pumpkin carving area, and of course the station was littered with hundreds of pumpkins all carved with scary designs. Fake cobwebs were on the stairs and little paper bats were hung high from the beams on the ceiling.
It looked enticing and spooky. The music was clearly a halloween playlist too, Monster Mash being the one that was flooding the speakers right now. The team were forever throwing parties, although not many of them happened at the station.
This was different though. This was for Halloween, allowing kids to come in and do some crafts, colour some pictures that the team would hang up on the bill board downstairs. They could carve their own pumpkins, paint them, take them home or leave them to decorate the station.
And when (Y/n) looked to the left, she felt her heart jumping into her throat when she realised who was manning the sweet station. Evan. Of course he was the one handing out sweets to the kids and telling them all sorts of fun facts he had learned about Halloween.
There was something so soft and sweet about seeing Evan interacting with kids. It was something that made (Y/n) certain that he would be an amazing dad one day. Even though he was desperate for that day to be now, and (Y/n) wasn't so sure about the timing.
She tore her eyes away from the sight before it overwhelmed her heart and she ended up catching his eye. She turned towards the right and slowly ventured over to where Bobby was sat doing some colouring with two younger kids.
"Can I join?" Her voice was soft and her smile felt more genuine when Bobby looked over his shoulder and grinned up at her. He waved her over and moved a small plastic chair for her to sit in.
"Of course. Glad you could make it."
"Hi there." (Y/n) sat down next to the little boy who couldn't have been more than four years old.
She was surprised how brightly he smiled up at her and when she softly whispered "What are we colouring?" he slid a colouring page over to her. He held up the picture of a witch on a broom that he was colouring while Bobby handed a few colours to (Y/n) and the little girl sat on his left.
"So, how are you?" Bobby glanced across at (Y/n) as she decided what colours to use and began shading a pumpkin.
"I'm doing good, thanks. How's everything here?" It was a lie. She wasn't doing well. Being so anxious and upset that she was throwing up every other day and unable to keep any food down, didn't count as good. But (Y/n) would never admit that to anyone, especially not Bobby.
She didn't want him to worry and she knew he would talk to Evan, and (Y/n) couldn't have him worrying. He had only just gone down to two phone calls a day and the odd message throughout the day. If he knew she was still panicking about being apart and the state of their relationship, his anxiety would flare up too and so would his protective side.
She was glad Bobby smiled and seemed to take her lie at face value and he didn't eye her up and down like he thought she was hiding the truth, which meant he believed her.
"The same as always, here. And you know, you can always drop by whenever you like, you're always welcome here. I know things aren't easy at the moment, while you and Buck are sorting stuff out."
(Y/n) wasn't sure what Evan had said about their relationship. She wasn't even sure what she herself would say about them if she were asked.
They hadn't technically broken up, but they weren't strictly together right now. They were paused, waiting in motion to see if things could change for the better. But (Y/n) knew this couldn't go on for much longer.
"Thank you."
She continued colouring and made some small talk with the little boy next to her. She found herself relaxing, even through the headache that burned in her temple and the sparks of panic and adrenaline that jolted through her system every now and then.
(Y/n) nodded and smiled when Bobby excused himself from the table to go and socialise with a few newcomers who were entering the station.
For a little while, she stayed content with the two children, all of them switching colours and making small talk about their favourite aspects of Halloween.
But just as (Y/n) finished her drawing, she paused and tilted her head back when she felt an all-too familiar pair of hands on her shoulders.
A shiver tore down her spine and her lungs seized up in panic when she stared up at Evan's clean-shaven face. His curls looked unruly and all over the place, like he had been wind swept or just woken up from a nap without the chance to drag a brush through his hair.
His expression was oddly calm and soft and the way his cheeks creased as he smiled down at her made (Y/n)'s stomach flutter. She could feel her heart suddenly pounding in her chest like it was making a desperate attempt to break free from her chest and reach out for Evan.
The way his fingers stroked over her shoulders was oddly soothing and his smile reassured her that he wasn't angry to see her here and he wasn't going to cause a scene either.
"Hi," (Y/n) set down the pencil in her hand and leaned back in her seat to look up at Evan properly. The smile she forced on her lips seemed to enlighten him because he took a deep breath and his own lips curved wider.
"Are you okay? I'm glad you're here."
"You are?" She couldn't help the air of surprise in her voice as she turned a little so she didn't have to tilt her head back to see him. But she was taken back when Evan let go of her shoulders and leaned forwards. He folded his arms on the back of her chair and leaned close to her as he nodded.
The way he hummed in her ear had (Y/n) shivering and brushing her cheek against her shoulder to rid the pins and needles that boiled through her skin.
"Can we talk?" Evan's voice sounded so soft in her ear, like velvet and he was calm and supressing the eagerness within him that was desperate to be around her.
"Sure."
(Y/n) nodded. She couldn't refuse to talk to him, she knew coming here posed the risk of finally airing things out and talking to Evan and that was what they needed to do sooner or later. They may as well talk now. It was a safe environment and if things got heated (Y/n) could walk away and Evan could calm down. They couldn't argue here at his place of work so it would always end up being a civil conversation.
She leaned close to the little boy on her right when he held up his finished masterpiece. "It's perfect; if you go give it to Bobby, he will pin it on the board for you."
The little boy was off like a shot with the young girl following close behind him, clearly wanting her picture to be shown off too.
Once they toddled off, (Y/n) pushed her chair back and got to her feet, tucking her bag safely beneath the table because she could see Hen walking over. Hen would know whose bag it was and make sure it stayed safe and didn't get pinched.
(Y/n) tried her best to control her breathing when Evan reached down and took her hand. His fingers slid between hers and their palms pressed together like puzzle pieces slotting into place. He gave her hand a tight squeeze before he steered off in a rather fast pace.
She thought he would guide her outside the doors to talk so no one could listen in but he would still be nearby if anyone needed him. She wasn't expecting Evan to steer her past the fire truck, down a small corridor near Bobby's office and into a room on the right.
The bunker room. It was the middle of the afternoon, no body was trying to catch a power nap right now. Everyone was out front with the visitors or cleaning up or stocking the trucks, and Evan knew this. He knew the bunker room would be empty.
It was secluded and private and gave them space and time to talk without anyone looking over or listening in. And it would give him chance to worm his way back into (Y/n)'s good graces.
Once they were inside, (Y/n) wasn't sure what to do with herself. She didn't know whether to go and sit down on one of the beds or stand near the door or lean casually against the wall. She had no idea what she was supposed to do in this situation.
So she settled on taking a few steps away from the door so it didn't look like she was hanging by to make a quick exit. (Y/n) stood beside one of the beds and let her hip slouch against the bed frame and folded her arms over her lower chest.
The smile on her face felt more genuine when she looked up at Evan and noted the way he was smiling at her. His teeth were nibbling at his bottom lip like he wasn't sure what to do with himself either.
"Are you okay?" She could guess by the constant phone calls and all the messages he sent that no, he hadn't been doing well these past weeks they had been apart. But it felt necessary to ask, to check and see if he would answer and be honest.
"I am now you're here, did Bobby ask you to come by?" Evan took a few steps closer, feeling like (Y/n) was some kind of siren drawing him closer.
Just looking at her was sending his heart into a frenzy and he knew the moment his hands found her body, there would be no turning back. He wouldn't be able to pull away from her or let her go once he had her back in his arms. And Evan knew once he was wrapped around her, (Y/n) wouldn't be able to stay away from him either.
"Yeah."
"I miss you." His voice was so sincere and quiet that (Y/n) almost thought she'd imagined it.
Her smile melted at the corners and she rolled her lips together, holding her head up straight when Evan advanced further until there was one inch of space between them.
His hands found her hips, causing her back to straighten up and she could feel his fingers squeezing into her sides. But it was his eyes that made (Y/n)'s brain stop working. Those eyes bore into her like he was casting a spell, trying to enchant her and subdue her somehow.
"I've missed you too." She dared to reach up and give his arm a squeeze, (Y/n) wanted this conversation to stay friendly and warm, unlike their last confrontation.
She could see her words ignited something inside Evan. His smile broadened from something warm to something sharp and pointed and his nose crinkled up in a way that made (Y/n) want to reach out for him.
"Will you come home? We've had space, but it's not working when we clearly want to be together. I'll be better, I swear, I'll do whatever you want to make this work."
The sincerity in Evan's words made (Y/n)'s knees quiver and she was sure he sensed it because he held her hips tighter.
"Evan… you know I love you, but-"
It was like a switch flicked inside of him the moment those words passed her lips. Evan couldn't help himself. He tugged on her hips until her chest was flush up against his and he swooped down, attaching his lips to hers. He stole the air from her lungs and sucked her lower lip between his teeth, desperate to bite down and see if she tasted as sugary as she looked.
It felt like he hadn't touched or kissed her in years. Weeks had dragged on for what felt like months. Having her back in his arms made Evan feel like he had been starved. Not having (Y/n) around was torture, and he couldn't go through that separation again.
He wouldn't let her walk away from him again, his heart couldn't take it.
He felt the way her hands moved to grip his shoulders, clinging tightly to steady herself and when she pulled back for a gasp for air, Evan dove right back down again. He reeled her back in for another kiss, worming his arms tightly around her waist with his hand planted down in the centre of her back to keep her steady.
"Say it again." Each word was muttered seductively against her lips and (Y/n) didn't dare open her eyes and see how intoxicated he looked right now. She could feel the need radiating off of him in waves.
She didn't want to. She didn't want to say those three little words that had clearly switched Evan on and made him come to life. She didn't want to lead him on or carry on down this path. They were meant to be talking, not falling into each other's arms like this.
Her chest tightened and she did her best not to make a sound when Evan's hands suddenly slithered down her waist. She didn't dare think what he was doing as his lips continued to work against hers, barely letting her up for air before he consumed her again. But her eyes shot open and she made a sharp noise against his lips when she felt where his hands were wandering to.
He took great pleasure in pulling up the hem of her dress so he could worm his hands up the back of her thighs and around to cup her bum.
She tried to pant his name against his lips but she pushed up on her toes, inadvertently pushing further into Evan's chest when his fingers squeezed into her flesh and his lips parted from hers.
He began peppering little pecks and kisses down her jaw until his head was inclined and his lips were attached to the side of her neck.
(Y/n) could feel herself itching in her shoes, desperate to push him away because she could feel his teeth grazing against her skin. He was like a vampire; always had been. (Y/n) knew when he bared his teeth he was about to strike, about to sink them into her flesh and create large bruises and indents into her skin.
She couldn't let him do that. Not here, not when he was on shift and this was a party event, they couldn't be doing this right now.
"Evan…" Her hands pushed at his shoulders but it was a feeble attempt and they both knew it. Her neck was like a button and it turned off her senses. They both knew (Y/n) had a weak spot for Evan's kisses, especially when he was practically worshipping her when he was doing this.
He always knew how to make her feel like the only person in the world worth being with. It proved that (Y/n) was the only person in Evan's life; the only one in his world that he had eyes for, that he wanted to touch and kiss and pull into his arms like this.
"You look beautiful, you know."
(Y/n) knew if Evan's arms hadn't been tightly pressing into her waist to hold her up, she would of melted to the floor at the sound of his sickly sweet voice.
It made her inwardly laugh that he loved to tell her how beautiful she looked, but he was more interested in taking the dress off than he was admiring her wearing it. She could feel his right hand travelling round to give a sharp tug on the hem of her dress that was currently bunched up near her hip. If anyone walked in at this moment they would get an eye full.
"Wearing my favourite colour," His words were so quiet (Y/n) had to strain to keep her focus on him. And when he gave a sharp tug on her dress and pulled it up higher than her hip, her hand hurriedly reached down to clamp around his arm. She couldn't have him taking her dress off here. Anyone could walk in. He was still on shift. People would start to wonder where they got to.
She could feel herself becoming light headed and she leaned forward to drop her head onto Evan's shoulder. With her weight pushing forward on him, it allowed (Y/n) to nudge him back a few steps so she wasn't leaning against one of the cot beds anymore.
"Can't just stand there and not touch you." He murmured into her neck, but this time, there was a growling edge to his voice that had pins and needles flowing through (Y/n)'s blood.
"We're s-supposed to be talking," (Y/n) squeezed his shoulders to try and catch his attention. But she switched to cupping his face in her palms instead so she could reel his head up to keep them both level and keep his lips away from her neck.
"We are talking," He paused to steal another kiss, earning a quiet groan from (Y/n) in response. "Come on, say you'll be my girl again."
"Okay. We can talk at home." Her thumbs brushed across Evan's sharp cheekbones that always felt like they could give paper cuts if pressed hard enough.
She watched the light sparkle in his eyes and it made her feel even more lightheaded than before. Her head seemed to spin around her and she swayed back and forth until Evan moved his hands to hold her hips again. She could feel her dress ruffled around her hips and pulled up high on her thighs from where it was still trapped between Evan's fingers that were woven into the fabric and clamped down on her hips.
"You'll come home, tonight?"
"What time do you finish?"
It wasn't worth trying to talk this out with Evan here and now, the only thing that was guaranteed to happen was for someone to walk in on them having relations while Evan was still on shift. It would be easier to go home and talk when he finished work, besides, most of (Y/n)'s things were still at the apartment. It was her way of showing him she wasn't walking away and never coming back. They could talk through everything tonight and sort things out properly. They would have all the time in the world to talk tonight.
She felt hum mutter "Six," against her lips before he was pushing her back and (Y/n) was far from stupid, she knew he was aiming to push her down on one of the beds. But she tried to plant her heels into the floor and push on his shoulders.
"We need to- Evan- Evan no, we have to get back out there." Her fingers squeezed tightly into his shoulders and she tilted her head back out of his way to make the message get through. She had been lenient, but she wasn't going to compromise his job and get him into trouble if someone caught them.
And she was still feeling like her head was swimming through a fog and leaving her far behind. If she laid down on one of those beds, (Y/n) knew she might not get back up again.
Evan pressed a lasting kiss to her lips and wove his arm around her waist, tucking her into his side before he finally let her move. When they moved towards the door, he was ignited with adrenaline and excitement when (Y/n) held his hand.
He loved the feeling of her head leaning on his shoulder and the way she pushed her weight into him when they walked out the room. He couldn't stop from glancing down at her, supressing a chuckle when he watched her try to sort out her dress and smooth out the creases he had caused. He much preferred to see her dress bunched around her hips, showing off her underwear that was probably skewed out of place too. But he wouldn't want anyone else getting that lovely sight.
He felt even more invigorated when (Y/n) didn't let go of his hand once they were back on the station floor. He loved how she seemed to cling to him tighter and lean her weight onto him like she didn't hold the strength to keep herself upright. He wanted them to be like this all the time.
He wanted to kiss her every chance he got and feel her huddled up into his side for as long as possible.
"We thought you'd got lost." Eddie looked the pair of them up and down with one raised brow and a coy smile when he walked past them, clearly aiming for the locker room to go grab something. He patted Evan's shoulder as he passed while (Y/n) leaned a bit more into Evan.
The anxiety she felt when she turned up here had dwindled down significantly, but she still felt uneasy. It was probably all the adrenaline she'd been living off for the past few weeks, and the fact that she hadn't eaten tea last night or breakfast today. She had been too nervous and pent up.
And now, knowing that later tonight she and Evan would have to talk properly before anything went back to a sense of normality between them, (Y/n) could feel her mind racing again.
Just the thought of what they would talk about tonight was overwhelming and it was combining badly with her twisting, tensing stomach.
"Let's grab a drink."
(Y/n) let Evan steer them both towards the drinks table towards the back of the station. She tried to force herself to smile when she saw Hen stood at the drinks table, pouring some juice into plastic cups decorated with skulls and pumpkins.
But her smile didn't reach her eyes and the more they walked, the more dizzy she started to feel.
By the time they got to the table, (Y/n) meshed her face into Evan's bicep and leaned heavily against him until she was sure he was holding almost all of her weight up for her. She felt like she was tilting forward, like she was stood on a ledge about to fall off and one more inch forwards would make her topple over. She didn't feel well.
She was sure Evan said something, but she couldn't hear him over the sound of her blood surging through her ears, hammering away like a drumbeat.
"You okay?" Evan looked down at her as she clung to his left arm, seemingly refusing to look up at him. Was she worried what the team would say or think? Did she suddenly not want to be at the station anymore?
He moved his right hand to cup the side of her neck, tracing his thumb along the edge of her jaw while he cautiously tilted her head back. Evan's eyes narrowed when he looked down at (Y/n). Tilting her head seemed to make her sway and he could feel her head lolling backwards, causing him to tighten his grip on her neck to try and hold her steady.
She didn't look very well and Evan wasn't sure she was actually looking at him. Her eyes were constricted and looking off into the distance rather than looking up at him.
"I th- I'm gonna…"
A groan burst past Evan's lips when (Y/n)'s head suddenly bashed into his chest and her weight fell forward into him. He let go of her neck in favour of binding both arms around her waist, pulling her into his chest so she didn't slump down to the floor.
She'd fainted.
Evan felt her head loll into his chest before she seemed to slump to the right and her head lolled to one side.
"Fuck." He switched one hand to grab the back of her head, holding her in place against his chest while he bent down until he was knelt on the floor with (Y/n) slumped up against him. His thumb stroked her skin and he carefully laid her down between his thighs, her back up against his chest and her head pressed against his arm.
He stroked his hand up and down her chest while his other hand pressed against her temple. She wasn't flushed or burning up and he could feel her breathing steady, her chest rising and falling against his hand.
"Is she not feeling well?" Hen left the table in favour of kneeling down beside them and she reached out for (Y/n)'s wrist to check her pulse. While Chimney steadily aimed their way with one of the medic bags in hand.
"Clearly not," Evan muttered quietly as he moved his hand to rub up and down her arm to try and stimulate her and bring her back around.
He could feel relief swelling up in his chest when (Y/n)'s head turned a little into his chest and the quietest murmur passed her parted lips. She was starting to come around. He looked over at Hen when she found the blood pressure cuff in the medic bag and took a reading. And Evan was glad she did that while (Y/n) was still out of it; he knew she hated having that done, it always made her feel lightheaded and nervous.
"BP's quite low, maybe a trip to the doctor might be a good idea."
Evan was suddenly glad (Y/n) had turned up today because he just knew if this happened when he wasn't around, she wasn't likely to tell him about it. That was why he liked to know what was going on when he wasn't home. What if something like this happened when she was out and he had no idea? If something happened to her and Evan didn't know where she was then he had no way of getting to her.
He had to know these things, Evan had to know so he could always have control over the situation.
***
"Okay, well we've had your blood results back, and your BP is steadily climbing back up which is good."
"I told you I'm fine." (Y/n) looked from the nurse across to Evan as if the pair of them were in on a cahoot to keep (Y/n) here. She told the team she didn't need to come down to see a doctor, she said she was fine and she just felt a bit unsteady. No one took no for an answer. When she could barely stand up, they practically carried her to the car and told Evan to take her to the doctor to be sure.
She had been glad Evan was the one to bring her down because he caught her again when she blacked out as soon as the needle was in her arm for her bloods to be taken.
She felt silly, coming down here when she was just anxious and pent up, there was nothing wrong with her and she felt like she was wasting their time.
"Yes, well, liver and kidney function is all good but you are lacking a few vitamins and you're very low on iron."
Her eyes glanced to the right to look over at Evan who gave her a pointed look. That may not be something urgent but it was clearly a good job she came down to get checked out.
"But there is a reason for that, your results show that you're pregnant. Congratulations."
(Y/n) felt like her head was swelling up with air and she planted both hands down on the bed either side of her to keep herself sitting upright so she didn't suddenly topple down. It was a good job she was sitting down because she knew her knees would of given way at that news.
Pregnant.
They were having a baby. One of the reasons she and Evan had argued was because this was the path he wanted to go down and although (Y/n) wanted kids, she thought it was rather sudden. They hadn't long moved in together and Evan had frightened her talking about getting a house together.
But if she was pregnant now, then a house was clearly the next step that they were going to have to take sooner rather than later. They couldn't cramp a baby into the bedroom with them at the apartment, there was only one bedroom after all and they would need space with a baby around.
She barely felt Evan's hand cupping the back of her neck, but she leaned into his touch when he smothered his lips against her temple. She could feel him smiling into her skin and the quiet laugh he let out made her heart jump and pick up pace and she was glad she wasn't on an ECG monitor for that to show.
"We're having a baby."
When Evan perched down on the side of the bed just as the nurse left them to talk about 'the good news', (Y/n) curled her hands around his arm and leaned into him. She laid her cheek on his shoulder and closed her eyes.
A baby. Evan was good with kids, this was the life he'd always wanted and he was going to be amazing with a baby of their own. As long as that possessive, controlling streak within him didn't flare up and get worse now that she was pregnant. And it couldn't get in the way with a baby around. (Y/n) couldn't be telling Evan her every move and have him becoming angry or overwrought if he didn't know where she or the baby were at every moment of the day.
Evan kissed the top of her head again and again, unable to wipe the smile off his face. This is what they talked about. Granted, they had differed in opinion on this subject, but they would be in full agreement now. This is what they wanted. This is all Evan had dreamed about.
He wanted this to happen. He had been praying for this to happen. He knew (Y/n) hadn't thought about having kids yet, the reason she had been saying they should keep using protection- something Evan had forgone quite a few times for this very reason.
"A baby," (Y/n) uttered as a small smile pulled at her lips when Evan held her tighter and pecked her temple again. She had no idea. She didn't even suspect she might be pregnant.
This was a good thing. It had to be, didn't it?
a/n: this literally popped into my head after reading @mrsdarkandyandere7 fic on their firefighter so this is definitely inspired by it, go check it out! i know evan’s character isn’t like this but i just thought it’d be cool to explore maybe what could’ve happened if buck’s breakups and general trauma had taken a toll on him 👀
WORDCOUNT: 3.8K Words
Gif not mine, credits to the owner!
Buck was enjoying his day off when he first saw you, waving his way. He turned his head, expecting a friend of yours to be behind him but was thoroughly surprised when you approached him. “You’re a firefighter aren’t you? I saw you on the news.”
Buck smiled at the recognition and nodded along, “Yeah I am, how’d you know?” You laughed at his joke before smiling, “You did an amazing job there, just wanted to let you know. I know sometimes you don’t get the props you deserve so… just wanted to come over.” You looked gorgeous, and your smile was infectious. Buck had been lonely lately, feeling as if he’s behind everyone else.
Always wondering what would’ve happened if he never changed, at least he’d have girls around, right?
But then, he met you. And all of a sudden, he was glad he wasn’t the original Buck. The Buck who felt the incessant need to get into bed with almost every girl he wants. “I sadly have to get going, but it was nice meeting you.” Enraptured with your smile, he watched you walk away. As he smiled to himself he realised, “Wait! I didn’t—,” You’d entered your apartment already, and he didn’t know your name. But you had left your purse on accident.
He sighed deeply, settling back into the bench he was sat on as his hand tightened around his coffee cup. “Stupid Buck, should’ve asked her name straight away.” Whilst plotting about how he could find out your name, the smell of smoke invaded his senses.
Your building was on fire.
He sprung up straight away, his hands sliding all over his phone whilst calling 911.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“23 Rayweo Drive, there’s a fire!”
“There’s already been multiple calls sir, units are on their way. May I ask who’s calling?”
“Uhh, Evan Buckley. I’m a firefighter!”
“Okay Evan, can you please—,”
All composure faded away the second he saw you at your window, arms waving frantically. “Help! The doors blocked!” The muffled voice coming through his phone was discarded as he made his way up the fire escape. The conjoining apartment had a balcony only about three to four metres from yours, Buck jumped across before grabbing the metal table on yours.
Your apartments glass door shattered as Buck made his way inside, the sirens were getting closer. “Hello? Where are you?” Buck held his arm infront of his face, searching the place for you. “In here!” Your apartment wasn’t fully engulfed yet, the kitchen and entrance were inescapable. But the rest only had small fires, yet to grow. Your bedroom door was untouched but had ceiling debris blocking you from leaving.
Buck went right into action, carelessly throwing the debris to the side before bracing himself, “Move away from the door!” You stood in the corner of the room as Buck pummelled through, ending up on the floor. You rushed over, “Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?” His coughs were rapid, “I’m— i’m okay, let’s get you out of here…” A soft smile came across your lips, “Y/n.” He smiled back, “Buck.” The two of you slowly made your way out, but you stopped and stared.
A painting of yourself and your best friends, hung on the wall. The frame was gold, and melting. Your first ever apartment, up in flames with some of the most precious memories and moments of your life. “Hey, I know it’s a bit of a shock but we need to go.” Buck turned around to look at you, and at the right moment since the ceiling caved in on you. “Wait!”
Your hand waved around trying to grasp something as you held your breath. Were you going to die? All you could feel was a throbbing pain in your head, you’d fallen head first. And as your eyes closed you felt two hand grasp your arm, attempting to pull you out. “Stay with me!” Buck pleaded.
You woke up as you were being lifted onto the stretcher, eyes adjusting to the brightness. “Where— what’s happening?” The paramedic to your right smiled, “Welcome back, can you tell me your name?”
“Y/n/n!” Buck rushed to your side as you smiled, “Buck.” His hands brushed away the hair from your face, “Yeah, I’m here. Right here baby.” You smiled as they lifted you into the ambulance. Buck looked up, “I’m riding with you guys Hen.” The girl, who you assumed to be Hen nodded. You held onto Bucks hand the entire ride, earning some stares from Hen and Chimney.
When they thought you were out, they started questioning him. “You know her don’t you?” He nodded, “I do.” You opened your eyes, as everyone’s attention fell back on you, “Hey there, how ya feeling?” Chimney asked as you smiled, “Good, heads hurting a lot though.” Hen nodded, “You did take a bit of a fall, it’s a given. Your vitals look normal, seems like it’s just a concussion and some smoke inhalation. A few nicks and bruises, you’ll be out in no time sweetheart.”
“She’s right, you’re gonna be okay. Is there anyone you’d like us to call?”
“My mom. Her number is…” Your eyebrows furrowed at your lapse of memory. “Her number is…” You tried again to no avail, “Oh my god, I can’t remember. Why can’t I remember?” Hens face drained, “Uhm, you may have hit your head harder than we thought. Is your phone on you?” You shook your head, “It broke when I fell.”
The ceiling was all of a sudden the most interesting thing in that ambulance. How the hell did you forget your own mother’s number? You tried your hardest to recall but it was hopeless. You tried your fathers, and nothing.
“Maybe a sibling? A boyfriend?”
“I don’t have siblings. No I do, a sister maybe? Or is it a brother? My boyfriend… I—,” Buck watched as you tried your hardest to remember things, and he hated it. He felt horrible, watching you struggle. He just wanted to shout at you that he was here, you didn’t need anybody else. He muttered under his breath, “I could be your boyfriend.” You turned your head, “You’re my boyfriend?” Hen and Chimney looked up at him, “You’re the man? Why haven’t you said anything?”
He was going to disagree, he really was. But with you looking up at him so hopefully he couldn’t help himself. “I didn’t want to confuse her, especially if she didn’t remember. That’s not wrong.. is it?”
You shook your head. “No, no it’s not. I’m just glad you’re here.”
The last few days had been a blur, sitting around or laying down. Nurses fluttering in and out with a million questions of ‘How are you feeling?’ or ‘Do you need anything else?’
Yes, to go home. You wish you could yell at them, but then again, you didn’t have a home. But through it all, you had your boyfriend. Who was nothing short of a gentleman. Always with a smile on his face, always asking how you were. And with him you just wanted to answer his questions.
“Discharge papers are all signed, you’re free to go sweetie.” The nurse beamed as you sighed, “Thank you so much. Have a nice day.” As she left you squealed before hugging Buck, “Whoa there, slow down sweetheart.” You rushed back, “I’m sorry, I’m just so ready to leave this place, and eat real food.”
Buck laughed at your growling stomach, “I promise to cook for you every night.” He pledged with a hand to his heart, “Oh shut up! Quick question, does this mean I’ll be staying with you? Until I find a new place and talk to my insurance company?” Buck frowned at the idea of you leaving him, “I know this might seem a bit quick but, what’s the point in you moving out? When you could just move in with me? I mean… you’d never have to worry about a fire with me.”
You grinned at him whilst picking up your purse and slinging it over your shoulder. “I already look like you since I’m wearing your clothes. You sure you want me 24/7?” He’d want you glued to him if he could. “Of course, I could never get sick of someone so pretty.” Buck flirted as your cheeks heated up, his hand traced your back sending tingles up your spine. He cupped your face and brought you closer.
Your lips were soft and sweet, the lip-balm you used was flavourful and he couldn’t get enough. His hand traced down your back, pulling you closer into him as you smiled into him, “Buck.” Your voice was muffled as he continued on, you put your hands on his chest and pushed back, “Stop, we’re in public.” You giggled as he threw his head back, “If anyone looks at you I’ll just punch em’.” You gasped, “Buck!”
He raised his arms, “What?” The two of you finished packing up before saying your goodbyes to the nurses that had taken care of you. “You never told me you had a jeep.” Buck laughed, “I was kind of hoping you’d remember, you love her.” You nodded at his words, “I can definitely see why I did, or do.” When you arrived at his place you were irrevocably in love.
“I love the exposed brick!” Buck set your purse down on the counter as you ran your hands along the walls before making your way to the couch. “And the couch is tucked away, it’s like a bit of privacy yknow?” Buck leaned against the counter with his arms crossed, “Well duh, you’re the one that helped me pick it.” He knew you hadn’t of course, but it was somehow easy for him to block her out and replace her with you.
“I did?” You looked his way as he walked over before standing in between your legs, “You loved this place a lot. So I got it as a surprise.” You smiled at him before pulling him down on top of you, “Why don’t we spend the rest of the day at home, and you tell me all about you and me?” He smiled at the sound of ‘home’, your home.
And that’s exactly what happened, the rest of the day he spent making up an ideal version of the two of you. Of how you met, how the two of you were yet to tell anyone since you really loved keeping it to the two of yourselves. And how he was always a ‘in the moment’ type person, explaining the lack of photos together. You then went out to buy yourself a new phone, and trade over the SIM card.
“Hey babe?” You called out to him as he cooked in the kitchen, “Yeah what’s up?” He glanced over his shoulder to you, “I can’t find you in my phone.” Buck breathed in, he forgot about that. “We… had a bit of a fight the day before. Pretty sure you blocked me or something, and since I’m petty, I did the same thing.” You stared at your phone in confusion, “I’ve never blocked someone, especially over something as simple as an argument.”
“Well, you have. Your brains a bit fuzzy babe, it’ll come back to you soon enough.” You glanced up at him, suspicion filling through you. “Alright, can I grab your phone and put my number in?” He nodded before pointing to the bed upstairs. You jogged upstairs before unplugging his phone. “My birthday.” You quickly filled in the password and were met with a million messages and calls.
Hen: Buckkkk, reply to us. Are you okay?
Cap 🔥: Buck, you need to call in if you’re not coming.
Maddie ❤️: YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?
Eddie: There’s no way you have a girlfriend and just forgot to tell me.
Eddie: I’m coming over.
These guys must be his friends and coworkers. But you couldn’t help but wonder, had he seriously not told any of them that he has a girlfriend? Not even a hint? The last text from Eddie was only half an hour ago, which meant—
RING!
The doorbell rung out as you made your way downstairs, “Hey, no I’ll grab the— door.” Buck was late to it, as you swiftly opened the door to reveal, “Eddie!” He smiled, “Hey Buck, and you must be?” You grinned, “Y/n, but you can just call me Y/n/n. Please, come in!” You opened the door wider to reveal a kid, “And who’s this?” Eddie had his hand on the kids back, “Y/n, meet my son Christopher.” You kneeled infront of him before stretching out your hand, “Well hello there Chris, I’m Y/n and it is very nice to meet you.”
“Hello Y/n. Buck never told us he had a girlfriend.” You laughed at the comment as the two shuffled in before settling on the couch, “Well, if it’s any consolation, we hadn’t really told anyone yet. So technically you’re the first to officially meet me. None of my friends or family know about Buck yet.” Chris smiled, “What do you mean officially?”
“Well technically, everyone’s kind of met me already but I was rescued from a fire.” Eddies face dropped, “Oh my god, I completely forgot to ask, are you doing okay? It must’ve have been hard to recover.” You appreciated his empathy, “Yeah, it was a bit difficult at first but I was in the hospital. I mean, it was my first apartment and it went up in flames, it’s pretty hard to just get over it. But Buck has been an absolute angel, I’m really lucky to have him with me. I’ve been having memory issues, to the point where I wake up and forget where I am,”
“Oh god, have you been put on any medication?” You nodded, “I have, and it’s been helping. I think with the days my memory will come back. I mean I didn’t even remember Buck and I were together in the ambulance.” You laughed as you looked over at Buck, he chuckled at the joke whilst Eddies eyes flicked between the two of you before laughing dryly.
“Dinners ready!” Buck shouted out, the conversation was getting a bit too much for his liking. The four of you stuck to light topics at the dinner table on account of Christopher as well as you. And it was super enjoyable for you, Eddie is an amazing father and you could see how close Buck was with him and Chris.
“Well I think it’s time for this one to go to bed.” Eddie rose up before collecting the plates, “Hey no, you’re a guest, you don’t have to clean up.” You spoke as you grabbed the plates from him, “No no, you should be resting Y/n/n.” You both made your way around, “Okay we can both do them. You wash, I dry.” Buck sat on the couch with Chris playing video games, whilst simultaneously trying to eavesdrop.
“It’s way too late for the two of you to be driving home no? I’m sure you could stay. Me and Chris upstairs and the men on the floor seems just right,” Eddie threw his head back laughing, “Ohh, I see how it is!” You bumped his side and he bumped right back.
If all of Bucks friends were this great, he would’ve had to be one of the luckiest people around.
Chris and Eddie did end up staying the night, but the two men couldn’t sleep. So Eddie and Buck ended up having a few late night drinks, “So, Y/n. She’s absolutely incredible. So I have zero clue how you ended up with her.” Buck shoved his arm, “Hey I am a catch.”
“That I’d throw right back out.” Eddie joked as Buck rolled his eyes, “But you never told us anything about her, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit disappointed. We usually talk about everything Buck. And I know you well enough to know when you’re talking to someone.” Buck sighed, “It’s… complicated.”
And the weight of his secret was bound to come crashing down at some point, right?
Eddie stood with his head in his hands trying to understand everything his best friend had tried to tell him. “So you kidnapped her?” Buck immediately turned to him, “What? No! We were in the ambulance and she assumed I was her boyfriend, and god if you’d seen the look on her face you’d understand why I said yes. She was all alone, her apartment was burned down and her phone was broken. Maybe if it was some random person I wouldn’t have said yes, but I’d talked to her before. I knew she didn’t deserve anything that was happening to her. And she wouldn’t have a place to go if she couldn’t even remember her friends or a phone number.”
“So you took her in, to be a nice person? Were you going to kick her out when she remembered? What if she calls the cops?” Eddies head had about a million scenarios rushing through right now, “Eddie, please. You know me, I’m not a bad guy. If she starts to remember then I’ll tell her. But, we’ve gotten along so well these past few days, like you said she’s incredible.”
“Oh god, don’t tell me you fell in love with her.”
“Well…” Buck scratched the back of his neck as Eddie groaned, “Buck are you serious?” Eddie screeched, “Shh! Do you want to wake her up? Look, if she realises then I’ll explain everything I promise. But it’s not like I’m holding her hostage. I’m just trying to give her a place to call home before she gets back out there.”
“Buck, she calls you ‘babe’, and you do too. You have a million nicknames for her. Every time you get the opportunity you kiss her. It’s wrong, she has no clue what’s happening here.” Eddie tried to rationalise with him but it was no use. Buck sighed, “I know, it’s just— I know her. I met her before the fire and she was so nice, I was going to ask her out but then this all happened. And it’s not like she doesn’t like me either, is it really so wrong?”
“I guess not, but you need to tell her. If she really likes you, then I guess she’ll give you another chance to actually take her out.” Buck rushed forwards and hugged him, “You think she’ll give me another chance? Thank you Eddie!” Eddie scoffed, “You really like her huh?” Buck couldn’t help but look back up at you, “I do.”
Your eyes were wide open, adjusted to the dark. Eddie and Bucks conversation was playing over and over in your head, he lied to you. But again he wanted to keep you safe, would you be homeless right now if it weren’t for him? Or would you have found a friend?
The good and bad parts of the situation were equal in your eyes. He’d been lying to you, kissing you and treating you as if you were his girlfriend. Taking advantage of your state of mind, but you’d met before, and he was going to ask you out. And if he had, you knew what your answer would have been.
Yes.
And it wasn’t as if he was dangerous, or at least you hoped not. Tiredness came over you, the last thing you remember hearing being the sound of Bucks voice wishing you sweet dreams.
By the time you woke up Eddie and Chris were long gone, Buck was busy cooking up breakfast. “There you are sleepyhead.” His smile was always bright when directed at you, and with the morning glow you could only see the good. “Buck, we need to talk.”
Who knew five words could strike such fear?
And you sat infront of him, “I know. I know about the fire, and the fact that you aren’t my boyfriend. And hey—,” Buck didn’t waste a second apologising, “I’m so so sorry I knew I should’ve told you straight away. But when you said I was I went along with it and that was stupid. But I didn’t want you to be alone and if you want to go I will—,” Your laugh stopped him in his tracks, “It’s okay Buck. I’m not mad, well I am a little since you’ve been kissing up on me every chance you get but… you’re just a bit dumb in how you went about it.”
Buck smiled as he set out breakfast for the both of you, “Now how about this. We finish up breakfast and then you take me out on a proper date where we get to make all of our firsts for real. I really do like you Buck, your heart was in the right place, execution? Not so much.”
And the rest of the morning you spent laughing at Buck and his love sickness. “You know you’re kind of obsessed with me, it’s a bit creepy.” Bucks face immediately drained, he stared at your back as you washed the dishes. “But my heart was in the right place right?” He sounded desperate with the sentence, “Sure.”
You liked Buck, there was no denying it, but you couldn’t shake the feeling of weirdness.
As the two of you continued getting to know eachother Bucks happiness sky rocketed. And everyone could tell, “If you smile any longer we’ll need to tattoo it onto your face Buck.” Bobby joked as everyone teased Buck, “I am in a happy, loving relationship. Be proud of me.” Eddie couldn’t help himself, “Does she know that?”
The whole table burst out laughing as Buck groaned, “She has her memory back can we please not joke about it.” Hen pointed at him with her fork, “Trust me, we’re not laughing at her, we’re laughing at you Lover Boy!” The footsteps coming up the stairs were drowned out by the sea of laughter, “If Shakespeare was alive you’d for sure be an inspiration Buck.” Chimney spoke from the kitchen.
“Wonder what he’d name it.” Your voice caused the five of them to turn your way, “Y/n!” Eddie shouted as you engulfed him in a tight hug. “If I squeeze too hard you’ll forget my name,” He joked as you punched his abdomen, “Don’t make me hurt you.”
“There’s the famous Mrs Buckley.” Bobby smiled as you made your way over to him, “Cap!” He opened his arms up to you as Buck grinned, his team finally meeting you made him feel happy. “Great to finally meet you, but I feel like we already know you.” He spoke as he pulled out a chair for you. “He’s right, Lover Boy never shuts about you.” Chimney teased as you kissed Bucks cheek.
“Well aren’t you sweet? We all know how lovesick he is I presume?” The team laughed as Buck rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah let’s get the jokes out the way.” You smiled before holding onto his hand.
Buck downplayed just how much he loved his team, they were like a family, and now you were apart of it too. Buck was grateful to be in it, especially with you being the new addition. But every once in a while he couldn’t help but remember how he got you.
summary: a passing comment and shared showers lead to a hard time for the plus size reader, luckily she has Evan Buckley...
pairing: Evan "Buck" Buckley x plus size/insecure fem!reader
warnings: body insecurities, fluff (no smut), mentions of body shaming, protective Buck & Eddie, implied no prior established relationship.
notes: Buck can be whoever you want him to be e.g bestfriend, boyfriend.
------------------------------------ 𝜗𝜚 --------------------------------------
This particular afternoon the team had come back especially dirty, all members requiring a nice hot shower and a decent scrub to rid their bodies of all that dirt and blood.
All would be fine if I wasn’t so insecure of my body. Gender-specific shower and changing rooms may have helped but it wouldn’t have defeated the issue nor made me feel that much more comfortable.
I hugged my arms around my chest loosely as I stood outside the door to the shower room, debating on going in and having that much-needed shower or waiting until everyone was done and risking going to more calls dirty and disgusting.
Buck eyed me from his locker, he’d picked up on my unease from an incident on call. I’d been having a good day until a patient made a passing comment about my body. Buck and Eddie being the only ones who heard were quick to defend but the damage was already done.
I must have been standing there for a long time because Bobby was already cleaned up and dressed and with Chim and Eddie entering back into the changing room with towels around their waists it left only Hen still showering and Buck and I.
Showers didn’t take long as we had to be ready in case a call came through, but time didn’t matter when it came to how I felt about my body.
Buck closed his locker and made his way to the entrance of the showers. He stops still in front of me. “You coming, Y/n/n? No offence but you kind of stink, not unlike me.”, he offers me a sympathetic and playful smile.
I stifle a chuckle, though still displeased with the idea, I follow him in. We pass Hen who smiles at us before leaving.
Buck turns and strips himself of his shirt, discarding it on the bench that lines the wall opposite the showers. He pauses and turns around to face me when he notices I haven’t moved from where I’m standing.
I feel awkward, at a loss of what to do. A constant debate in my mind of what I should do and what I want to do.
“Y/n.”, he says, moving closer to me. Gently he places his hands on my shoulders. “Is this about what happened earlier?”
I look him in the eyes nervously before looking away. Tears brink in my eyes, my bottom lip quivering. I raise my hand to my mouth, anxiously biting at my nails in a subconscious effort to distract myself.
Carefully as though I may break, Buck lowers my arm and engulfs me in a tight hug. It’s now that tears start falling, soft sobs into the firm chest of the man hugging me. His hand strokes my hair, “Shh, sweetheart.”, he soothes.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about, especially when it comes to us.”, he says regarding the rest of the crew. “No one here is going to judge you and in the extremely unlikely scenario that they did, they’d have me to deal with.”
My sobs quiet down, Buck places a light kiss on my forehead and pulls away. “C’mon, let’s get you showered.”, his voice is gentle and caring and provides me a comfort in which I much so needed. His thumb swipes runny mascara from my cheek and he smiles down at me affectionately, a smile I can’t help but force myself to think could be amused and judging.
I nod my head, “Okay.” My voice comes out low and hoarse as I push the idea of Buck judging me out of my head.
Buck walks over to the light switch and flicks it off. The room is left dim but not in complete darkness as daylight pours in from small windows near the ceiling.
Behind me his fingertips grab onto the hem of my shirt, resting there. “Is this okay?”, he murmurs and gestures to lifting it.
“Yeah.”, I say quietly with a nod. He lifts the navy shirt over my head and throws it onto his. Buck scoops my hair up and moves it over my shoulder out of the way.
Buck pauses, “If you get uncomfortable tell me and I’ll stop.”
Goosebumps ripple along my skin at the feeling of the cold air and his touch. His fingers hook under the clasp of my bra, undoing it and letting it slide off my arms.
I step away from Buck and make sure to stay facing away from him, “I’ve got the rest.”
I wait until Buck is fully undressed and under the water. Steam rises as the hot water hits the tiled floor and Bucks large muscular back.
Once completely unclothed I join him, walking in front of him slowly and making minimal eye contact. My arms once again crossed over my chest.
Buck’s hair is drenched along with his face and body. The hot water helps ease my nerves and wash away the tension, our skin turning red at the temperature. The dirt and grime runs off our bodies, brown and red flowing down the drain until eventually it’s clear.
Behind me, Buck squirts some shampoo into his hand and runs it through the roots of my hair and massages it into my scalp. Our bodies may both be bare and very close but the intimate experience stays innocent.
 Under the stream of water Buck rakes his hands through my hair and washes out the soapy substance before adding conditioner and shifting my hair over my shoulder. He lays a kiss on the shoulder without hair, staying there for a moment. Buck’s so overcome with the feeling of longing, longing that I could love myself and see myself just as he does. And I wish for that too, I really do.
We don’t talk but we don’t need to, the silence is comfortable and I eventually start to fully unwind.
The blonde behind me rubs my shoulders a few times before lathering soap onto his hands.
His hands innocently wander over the curves and crevices of my back. I close my eyes and I relish in the feeling of being able to exist without judgement even if it’s only with one person or only in this one moment.
 Buck’s hands travel down the length of my arms. I suck in a deep breath as I know it’s time to turn around.
“Y/n.”, he says at my hesitation. Slowly I turn, water rinsing the soap from my back and the conditioner from my hair.
I don’t look at his face until his hand cups my jaw and gently forces it up so my eyes lock with his.
“Hey, we’re already here. Nothing is changing, I’m not going to suddenly be disgusted by you or whatever you think is going to happen, sweetheart.”, Buck professes.
I find myself at a loss of words, no one has treated me just how Buck does. “It’s just hard to believe, Buck.”, I reply looking at him sheepishly.
He nods his head in understanding, “I know, but you have to try.”
Buck reaches for the soap again but gets interrupted by the loud sound of the bell ringing. He lets out a sigh, not annoyed that he didn’t get to properly wash himself but rather at the fact he felt like he failed at trying to make the woman most important to him see how wrong she was about her feelings towards her body.
We both hurriedly dry off and pull on our clothes, being forced to forget prior events.
As we go throughout the rest of the day I can’t help but get flustered when I look at Buck or when sitting in the fire engine and his thigh brushes against mine.
I never thought I’d wish to be back, naked, in front of Evan Buckley.
Buck is the king of putting on a brave face.
Always strong, never faltering. He reassures everyone he's fine time and time again, smiling and cracking jokes. But you see right through him.
You've always been able to read him like a book. You don't even have to try.
After the lightning strike, Buck doubled down on his brave face. He wouldn't let anyone see him upset - not even Eddie. Which is rare. And worrying.
He seems to be coping surprisingly well, desperate to get back to work and resume normal routine. While he's stuck at home, he's been cooking, doing puzzles, watching football. You're greeted with a lovingly cooked meal and a glass of wine every time you walk through the door.
Until today.
Today, you walk into the apartment, and it's dark. No lights on, no TV blaring sound. Nothing.
"Buck?"
Silence.
"Buck? Baby? I'm home," you call.
Now you're worried.
You start striding through the apartment, navigating your way through the darkness. When you hear a sniffle, your head whips around. There's Buck, knees pressed to his chest, jammed in between the nightstand and the wall. He's curled up on the ground, head resting on his arms that are protectively wrapped around his legs.
"Buck? Hey, did something happen?"
"Yeah," he murmurs hoarsely. "I got hit by lightning."
"I remember," you say gently. "Did something happen today?"
"I don't know," he whispers. "I think I've been distracting myself. And today it all came crashing down."
"Talk to me," you urge.
Buck's lip trembles, and so do his hands. Warm, salty tears drip down his face, and his breathing quickens rapidly.
"Hey, hey. Keep your eyes on me, Buck."
He locks his gaze onto yours, and mirrors your breathing carefully. Eventually, he calms down enough to speak.
"I died. I've been so close to death so many times that I'm kinda numb to it. But this time was so real. How am I supposed to go on living my life like nothing happened, when I literally died?"
"You don't have to live like nothing happened, baby," you reassure, moving to sit down in front of him. "No one expects you to do that."
"I just -," he sighs, trying to formulate a coherent thought. "I just don't know how to carry on."
You reach out gently and place a hand on his cheek, wiping away the tears that are spilling over. Your thumb strokes his cheekbone carefully, grounding him back down to Earth.
"I know you're like, totally anti therapy -," you begin, and he laughs. "But talking to a therapist or a trauma counsellor might really help. Or maybe we find a support group. This is LA, there's groups for everything."
"You think there's a lightning strike support group?" he jokes.
"I honestly wouldn't be surprised," you chuckle. "And if there isn't? Well, we'll start one."
"I might be the only person who attends."
"Fine by me," you tease, nudging him lovingly.
You stand up, and offer him a hand. He takes it gratefully, getting up and instantly wrapping his arms around you. He inhales the scent of your vanilla shampoo, and the tension leaves his shoulders rapidly.
"I love you," he murmurs into your hair. "I'm so lucky."
"I'm the lucky one," you reassure. "Well, technically you are, since you got hit by lightning. And survived."
"I've always been one in a million," he chuckles, squeezing you a little tighter.
"Yes, you have. My one in a million, Evan Buckley."
Evan "Buck" Buckley x fem!reader
summary: you and Buck decide to keep your pregnancy a secret until the time is right, but an accident makes it all come out and everyone comes together to comfort the two of you
word count: 4k
cw: graphic description of a car accident and injuries, hurt/comfort, Buck has panic attack
part one part two part three part five part six
Things with you and Buck had been perfect since you had made amends in your apartment. Your pregnancy was a little secret between the two-well, the two of you and Athena and Scarlett-and you had planned on keeping it that way until you were far along enough to where a miscarriage wouldn’t be an issue. You felt horrible for keeping such big news from your uncle, but you were just trying to take the proper precautions.
You had been staying at Buck’s more often than Scarlett’s so the two could be in your own little world with your baby. You’d make meals together as you danced around the kitchen to whatever playlist Buck had on and he’d spin you around, pulling you into kiss after kiss, telling you how grateful he had been for you and for the baby. It seemed like he talked to your stomach more than he would to you and that was more than okay with you.
He’d insist on laying on your stomach while the two of you watched tv after a long day of work for the both of you and he’d tell the baby about his day and you’d scratch his head as he did so, always feeling like you were going to cry as you watched him. If he was like that with your unborn child, you knew that he was going to be the best dad once the baby finally came.
Athena had told you that you had to be the one to tell Bobby about your pregnancy, so he was very much still in the dark as far as the topic was concerned. You weren’t showing yet, but every time you were around him, you were paranoid that he somehow knew your secret. So, you resorted to wearing big cardigans or holding a pillow in front of your stomach when you sat down on their couch or one of the chairs.
After you got settled in, Bobby and Athena insisted on having weekly dinners with you and it was becoming even harder to hide your growing stomach. But you tried your best, knowing that you just had to hold on a bit longer before you could find out the sex of the baby and then you and Buck were going to make an announcement to the rest of the 118.
It was the night of the week when you went over to Bobby’s for dinner and he had you pick up a dessert on your way there, but you had decided to show up early so you could talk to Athena before Bobby got home for work.
As soon as you got in the car, you noticed that Buck was calling you that, signaling that he had just gotten to work. It seemed like he was always calling you when they were just sitting at the firehouse and you hardly minded. His coworkers did, though. Always rolling their eyes at him and even going as far as making bets to see how many times he’d call you during one shift. So far, the record was twenty-seven.
“Hey,” you picked up and Buck let out a sigh of relief. He didn’t know why he was always so worried that something was going to happen to you or the baby. Maybe that was why he always called so much. To give himself a peace of mind.
“Hi,” Buck replied, a bright smile appearing on his face. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too, but you’ll be at Bobby and Athena’s for dinner, right?” Just as you pulled out of the parking garage, you noticed that it was raining hard which was something that you hated to drive in. It was always unpredictable and accidents seemed inevitable so you tried to avoid driving in it as much as possible.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” he replied, then let out a sigh, moving over to the kitchen so everyone couldn’t hear him. “When are we going to tell them? Bobby keeps looking at me like he knows something and I’m honestly becoming afraid of him.” He eyed the man who was sipping on his coffee while talking to the other members of the 118 as they all sat at the table. Bobby was getting suspicious and Buck could see it.
“Bobby wouldn’t hurt a fly, you know that,” you told him as you turned into traffic, finding yourself at a red light. The rain was coming down harder and it was getting more difficult to see which was worrying you. “And we will tell them when we find out the sex.”
“Sleeping with you was one thing, but if he knows that I got you pregnant, he’ll have my head.” Buck wasn’t scared that Bobby would hurt him, but more to give him a lengthy lecture and Buck would rather clean the bathrooms of the fire house every single day of his life than get yet another lecture from Bobby. Especially when that lecture centered around his sex life.
“Baby, I think you’re being a bit dramatic,” you let out a chuckle as the light turned green and you pressed on the gas, maybe going a little too fast as you tried to get to Athena’s as quickly as possible to get out of the rain.
“You realize he’s going to want to talk to the both of us, right? That’s why he invited me over for dinner too.”
“I don’t know why you’re so scared, Evan. It’s just Bobby. And Athena will be there to back us up. You know that. Just take some deep breaths, okay?” You asked as you got to another light, but quickly passed it as it turned red, not wanting to sit in traffic any longer, especially since LA traffic was a nightmare and rain made it even worse.
You were going a little faster than you should have and soon enough, you were starting to hydroplane, your car spinning out of control as you tried to take your control back. But the car had a mind of its own as it spun around to face traffic for a split second until it turned off the road and slid down the grass that was to the left of it.
You were screaming into the phone, telling Buck what was happening, but everything you were saying was unintelligible on the other line. Buck wasn’t sure what was going on, but it definitely wasn’t good and he was becoming scared for you. The last thing he heard was you screaming his name before he heard a loud crash.
Your car slammed into a tree, crunching the front bumper. The force in which your car hit the tree knocked you unconscious as your head hit the steering wheel hard before the airbags deployed. You laid there as Buck yelled into the phone, trying to get your attention, but it was no use. You were out cold.
Hearing Buck’s urgency, the other members of the 118 turned to him, wondering what was going on. He hung up the phone and pocketed it before rushing over to Bobby to tell him that he needed to go find you.
“What’s going on, Buck,” Hen asked  as Buck approached the table. He looked like he had just seen a ghost.
“It’s y/n,” Buck replied. “I was just on the phone with her and all I heard was screaming and then a loud crash. And she wouldn’t respond when I called her name. I have to see her, Cap.”
“I’m sure she’s fine, Buck,” Chimney gave Buck’s shoulder a pat.
“Yeah, you probably just thought you heard something,” Hen agreed. Why was everyone brushing him off? He knew what he heard and clearly it was an emergency. If he didn’t get to you quick, you could have been dead. And Buck would have been damned if he let that happen to you.
“Bobby, you don’t understand. You have to bench me today.” He knew he wouldn’t be able to do his job if he was worrying about you the whole day and being a firefighter, he couldn’t afford to be distracted. He just wanted to make sure that you were doing okay and then he’d come back in time to respond to the next call.
“No can do today, Buck,” Bobby shook his head as he stood up from the table to take his empty coffee mug to the sink. “I let you leave here a couple of weeks ago because of her and I can’t let you again today. You’ll see her at dinner.” As soon as the words left his mouth, the siren went off and he begrudgingly followed Bobby to the engine, worrying about nothing but you the entire way there. What he had heard wasn’t good and your screams along the loud crash replayed in his head on a torturous loop the entire ride to the scene.
It looked like a pretty bad car accident from what he could see. Rain was still pouring down on the city and Buck assumed that was the cause of the accident. There was a huge pile up and police had blocked off the intersection where the big part must have happened. The crew went up and down the line to check on every vehicle that was affected in the accident and thankfully, none of them had been life threatening.
As Buck helped Eddie remove a man from his car that had been completely crushed in the pile up, he couldn’t help but worry that you were in the accident, but Eddie assured him that you weren’t. That he was just paranoid and he wasn’t making him think rationally. They got the man on a board and carried him to an available gurney where he was rolled to the ambulance.
While that was happening, Hen and Chimney got to the intersection and noticed that the guard rail had been driven through and looked down in the grass to see a vehicle had hit the tree that was down the hill. They made a beeline for it and Hen was the first to notice you in the driver’s seat. You were still unconscious with your head against the steering wheel and blood was pouring from the large gash on your forehead that was caused by a piece of glass that had swiped across it.
Hen let out a gasp as she realized who you were and really hoped that Buck wasn’t around to see you. She ripped open the door that was a little bent from the accident and reached up to check your pulse, letting out a sigh of relief when she could feel your heartbeat.
“I got a pulse!” She told Chimney then turned back to you, shaking your shoulder.
“Y/n,” she called out to you “Y/n, can you hear me?” When there was no answer, she radioed that they needed a board and a collar and immediately. One of the firefighters from the other department rushed down with one and together, they got you onto the board and the two of them carried the board up the hill  where two paramedics were waiting with a gurney.
They got you on it just in time for Buck to see you and he raced towards you, falling over his feet as he did so. Eddie was quick to help him up and he blocked Buck from getting to you, knowing that it would have been for his own good. He knew he wasn’t crazy. He knew it. And if he had left when he had wanted to, he would have been able to get to you in time before you had been knocked out. Okay, maybe that wasn’t true, but he was going to tell himself that it was.
“Eddie, move, I have to get to her,” Buck yelled, trying to push Eddie out of the way as he watched Hen and Chimney push the gurney towards the ambulance. He pushed Eddie out of the way and moved to walk beside you, watching you lay there unconscious. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes and Eddie held him back so they could put you in the back of the ambulance.
“Eddie, let me go,” he tried to wriggle out of his grasp. “I have to go with her.” He could feel sobs trying to escape his throat and was making an attempt to choke them down. He’d wait to do that at the hospital, not wanting to let his emotions fully take over when he was on the job.
“You’re too hysterical right now, Buck,” Hen told him. “Take some deep breaths and you can go with Bobby to the hospital.” Both her and Chimney got into the ambulance and the door closed behind them. It took off down the road and Buck broke down right there, collapsing onto his hands and knees and Eddie was quick to comfort him, resting his hand on his back as Bobby approached the two of them once he was sure that everyone was accounted for.
All he could see was Buck on his knees and in all of the chaos, it seemed that everyone neglected to tell him what exactly had happened to his niece. All he knew was that something was wrong. Very wrong. He raced over to the pair and placed a hand on Eddie’s back. The man turned to face him and his face went white as he realized that it was his captain.
“What’s going on here? Is Buck okay?” Buck had been affected by losing people before, hell, they all had, but something was off. He had never cried like that over a stranger, even when he felt like it was his fault.
“Cap…it’s y/n…her car hit a tree. She’s stable but unconscious. They’re taking her to Presbyterian.” Without a single word, Bobby pulled Buck to his feet and both he and Eddie took him to the engine where they all piled in, heading straight for the hospital.
 Eddie sat next to Buck, comforting him as well as he could, but all he could think about was what happened to Shannon. He was in Buck’s exact position, just responding to a call when he saw her in the middle of the road. But it wasn’t about him this time. It was about Buck and Bobby and he needed to be there for them in their time of need. He continued to rub Buck’s back and as he let him cry, knowing that anything he said wouldn’t get into his friend’s head, so he kept quiet.
All Buck felt on the way to the hospital was guilt. If he hadn’t called you then you wouldn’t have gotten into the accident. All of your focus would have been on the road and then you wouldn’t have swerved or whatever happened. It didn’t matter if it wasn’t his fault, he was going to tell himself that it was. He was going to beat himself up about it for the rest of his life.
As soon as the engine pulled up to the hospital, the three rushed inside just as your gurney was rolled inside. Both Bobby and Buck made a beeline for you, tears welling up in their eyes as they watched your lifeless looking, blood-stained face. They both went to follow you, but a nurse blocked their path, telling them that they weren’t allowed to see you just yet as you needed surgery to have the glass removed from the slice on your forehead.
So, hours passed as the three men sat in the waiting room, wordlessly waiting to be able to see you and or hear about your condition. It didn’t seem like you had been hurt that badly so what was the hold up? Every second that passed, Buck had been thinking the worst. Were you okay? Was the baby? Oh god, nobody knew about the baby and you weren’t far enough along yet to be showing very much so it wouldn’t have been obvious.
“Mr. Buckley?” A voice asked and all three men whipped around, quick to stand to their feet as the nurse approached them.
“It looks like has a slightly sprained neck and received some stitches for the deep cut on her forehead. There is a small break in her left leg from where it slipped from the gas pedal, but it should heal in a few weeks. Y/n and the baby are going to be just fine, Mr. Buckley. You should be able to go and see her in just a few minutes.”
You were okay. You were okay. And so was the baby. Sure, you had some injuries, but they were going to heal and you’d be good as new in no time. At that point, Buck was never going to let you out of his sight again just so nothing like that ever happened again. He didn’t know what he would have done if he lost you. If Bobby lost you.
“Thanks,” Buck replied as tried to process all of the information and the nurse turned to leave the waiting room as Bobby and Eddie turned to stand in front of him. Oh, he was definitely in for an earful.
“Baby?” They asked in unison. Of course, they knew that you and Buck had slept together, but your pregnancy was definitely not something that had been mentioned to either of them.
“Yes,” Buck replied, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. He had been carrying that secret for far too long for his liking and now that it was finally out in the open, he felt like he could finally breathe.
“So my niece is having a baby and neither of you thought I should know?” Bobby didn’t look angry, but disappointed and Buck actually thought that was worse. He did feel bad for keeping something like that for him, but ultimately wanted to leave that up to you since you were the one carrying the baby.
“I’m sorry. I just-we didn’t want to tell anyone too soon. We were going to wait until we found out the sex next week.” He was getting choked up. Even though everything was going to be okay, he still couldn’t help but be worried. That just seemed to be what he was feeling no matter what was going on.
“Hey, hey, it’s alright,” Bobby gave Buck’s shoulder a squeeze before pulling him into a hug. Buck held onto him tight and let out the sobs that he had been holding while Bobby felt his own eyes getting misty.
Eddie just stood there, watching two people that he really cared about share a moment and feeling relief that you were okay even though he didn’t know you very well. He really didn’t know how he would’ve been if something worse had happened to you. To see both Bobby and Buck in shambles would have absolutely broken him and he wasn’t sure he could’ve seen them like that. Just watching Buck break down as the ambulance drove off was enough to break Eddie’s own heart.
Just as the men pulled away from each other, Hen and Chimney entered the waiting room with Maddie in tow. Buck made a beeline for her and was quick to pull her into a hug, so grateful that his sister could be there for him during this hard time. She said nothing but encouraging words to him as she squeezed him, assuring him that he was going to be okay.
“How is she?” She asked once she pulled away, grabbing hold of Buck’s hands.
“She’s stable. Her neck is sprained and she has a broken leg, but other than that she's going to be fine.” He began to pick at the skin around his nails as the anxiety ate at him, all of the horrible possibilities playing in his mind still. He could feel his chest getting tight like he was on the verge of a panic attack, but he couldn’t have everyone worrying about him too. You were the priority at the moment. He sat down in the nearest chair in a way that wouldn’t cause suspicion and Maddie sat next to him.
“Oh, thank god,” Maddie let out a sigh of relief. She knew just how much you had begun to mean to Buck in the short time that you had known each other and knowing that you were going to be okay made her feel so much relief.
“And the baby’s okay too,” Buck added, watching his sister’s eyebrows shoot up, her hands flying to her mouth. She had her assumptions with the way you had been behaving, but hearing that she was actually right was shocking.
“A baby!” She exclaimed. “Buck, that’s amazing!” She pulled him into another hug, knowing that he was going to be the best dad. Seeing the way he had been with both Christopher and Jee-Yun, she was sure of it. Once she pulled away, she could see that he was still uneasy and reached over to give his back a rub.
Not long after, the nurse told Buck that he could go back and see you and despite wanting Bobby to come with him, he knew he had to do it alone. He didn’t know why he was so nervous. You were asleep so it wasn’t like he was going to have to say anything to you. That was the part he was most anxious about. When you woke up, what was he going to say to you? For the most part, the man never knew when to shut up, but now he was rendered absolutely speechless.
Buck stood in front of the door and let his hand hover, watching it shake as he lowered it to the handle. He slowly pushed the door open and hesitantly entered the room, sticking his shaking hands into his pocket as you came into view. He took everything in a little bit at a time. First, he looked at you, taking in your injuries: the giant scar along your forehead and your bruised cheek, the brace around your neck, and the cast that was on your left leg. Even though you were all banged up, Buck still thought you were the most beautiful he had ever seen.
His eyes moved to your stomach and it somehow seemed bigger than when he had seen you that morning. You were starting to show a little, but not enough that it was obvious that you were carrying a baby. He was still in shock that you were both okay considering how bad the crash seemed to be, especially the baby. He had taken care of multiple women who hadn’t been as lucky, but you were. So much so that he felt lucky too.
Buck sat in the chair that was next to your bed and scooted it so that it was almost right up against the bed. He then took your hand that was nearest to him in both of his and pressed a kiss to his before bringing it back down to rest on the bed. He gave it a squeeze then let his gaze fall back on your face. He could feel tears well up in his eyes and he wasn’t going to hold them back. He was allowed to cry and had to remind himself of that.
“Hey, baby,” he said, reaching up and letting his hands graze over the bandage on your forehead. “It’s me,” he sniffed. “I’m here. I’m always here. And I just want you to know that I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to be right here until you wake up and I’m going to be right here when it’s time for us to go home. You’re so strong and you’re going to get through this. You’re going to be just fine.” One of his tears trickled down onto your gown and he decided that it was time for him to sit back so he just settled for holding your hand, perfectly content with just sitting there and watching you sleep.
He could feel himself drifting from all of the emotions and a long shift and eventually he closed his eyes right in the chair, your steady beat of heart on the monitor being the thing that lulled him to sleep. For once, he was able to sleep soundly and wasn’t having any nightmares about you or the baby. It all just a lot of nothing going on in his head and that was exactly the way he liked it.
Just when Buck was deep in sleep, he was awoken to a loud, consistent beeping from your heart monitor. He sat up and could see that you were flatlining and just when he was about to get someone, nurses and doctors rushed inside and ushered him out of the room. The door was slammed closed in his face before he could process what was happening and he quickly moved to the little window to see them starting compressions, but you still laid there, lifeless. They tried and tried again before pulling out the defibrillator.
It was as if everything was moving in slow motion as the machine shocked you, but you still weren’t waking up. They all turned in Buck’s direction as they shook their heads and he just backed up from the window, falling to the floor as he lost his footing. A sob raked through his body as he sat there, crying that he had lost the one woman he thought he could keep along with the baby he loved more than anything in the world. You both were gone and this time, there was nothing he could do to save you.
