Coffee Shop AU oumota for @sunbunart for a Kaito gift exchange organised by @toxicpineapple ! The composition was inspired by Women at a Cafe by Edgar Degas ☕

My headcanon of the scenario below~

Rantaro and Kaede ran a small coffee shop together, but clues of his sister's whereabouts pushed Rantaro to travel overseas for a couple of days. He asked Kaito to take over his shift while he was gone. During Kaito's shift, Kokichi, who was Rantaro's regular, visited and ordered grape soda (not on the menu), which confused Kaito. When Kaito clarified the menu to him, Kokichi kept on putting in weird orders like 'Double espresso with soy sauce and mayo' which riled Kaito up, before finally giving him a normal coffee order– but lied to Kaito about his name. Kaito soon realised that Kokichi visited the coffee shop everyday, each time ordering under a different name, so it became a game between the two to guess Kokichi's real name (Kokichi told Kaito that one of these days he was going to tell Kaito his real name, and if Kaito guessed it correctly, he was going to admit it to him). Kaito, having very good instincts, had a good feeling about the name 'Kokichi' when it rolled out of Kokichi's tongue, and told Kokichi that that was his final guess. Kokichi, being the liar that he is, tried to convince Kaito that he got it wrong when Rantaro returned to the coffee shop and called Kokichi by his name, confirming Kaito's guess. Kaito, elated that he won the bet, and Kokichi, telling him that it's really not that big of a deal, ended up striking a conversation over Kokichi's finally-correctly-named cup of coffee and ended the day knowing each other a little bit better.

hey guys so ive been thinking about @dansconcepts danganronpa diner au and its been on my mind for a hot minute (TOTALLY GO CHECK THEM OUT BTW ITS SOSOOSOS COOL) and i think its so interesting and cool the ideas that can come from it, and i fear i dont have the time to actually draw them at the moment so im writing them down!!!

like okay, celestia mentions that there was a coffee shop she used to frequent, and that they often made royal milk tea. WHAT IF *THIS* WAS SAID COFFEE SHOP, or at the very least what if this was a more convenient place for her. image the STRESS that passes through into the kitchen as someone walks in after getting celestia seated and is like “fuck guys ms.ludenburg is here.” imagine the number of teacups broken until they all perfected a royal milk tea. imagine if SHUICHI had to serve her that man would be fucking shitting himself.

or what if, lets say, yasuhiro comes in. lets say yasuhiro is doing some odd shit outside, and makoto asks hajime to go check on him while he deals with something in the kitchen. so he goes out, asks yasuhiro if hes doing alright and if he needs anything, and suddenly he’s roped into a 30min conversation where yasuhiro is doing palm readings, tarot cards, the lot of it. he’s getting his whole fortune told, angel numbers, zodiacs, everything you can think of. and he can’t just up and leave, he has to stay there, he’s trapped in this conversation. imagine how ANNOYED he’d be and imagine how SMUG nagito would be if he saw that happening. IMAGINE THE SHIT HE’D BE SAYING TO HIM FROM THE TABLE NEXT TO YASUHIRO’S.

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

I title my fics during the process. (Essentially whenever I decide to hit "Save As".) As for how I come up with the titles... I honestly don't 100% know. I just pick something that I think goes with the general "vibe" or the story.

22. Are there certain types of writing you won't do? (Style, POV, genre, tropes, etc.)

Yes, I do. Though, to list them all would be impossible, but here are some of my "bigger" ones.

-First Person POV: Personally, not into writing that POV.

-Song Lyrics: I dislike when stories just add in song lyrics through the writing. I think it's because to me you're presenting only a chunk of another piece of art. Music is meant to be experienced in its entirety (music, singing, etc.). Presenting it any other way feels like a disservice and annoys me.

-Graphic gore/torture: Makes me uncomfortable.

-Horror: On the subject of darker elements, I'm not comfortable writing horror. Dark fantasy maybe, but I don't do horror well.

-Coffee Shop AU: I hate coffee shop AUs with a burning passion. I don't dislike them as a setting but for the entire plot to centre around it? Not for me. Also, they make me highly uncomfortable because it's usually framed as "one character works there and the other is a customer". IRL Being hit on by a customer/patron of a place is not fun and I'm unable to separate that feeling when reading fiction.

-High School AU: Don't like them.

-Major Character Death: Unless a series has canonical death and I'm writing closer to canon (ex: Danganronpa), I don't enjoy writing major character death.

71. When it comes to more complicated narrative, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, etc.?

I don't.

Okay, that's a bit of a lie, but honestly I have minimal planning. I don't even have what I'd call a "skeleton". I have a pile of bones that need to be put in order. Sometimes it is easy to find the pieces that go together. Other times it isn't. Sometimes I need to dig a bit before finding the right bone for the right space. Sometimes I talk to someone and the right bone manifests in front of me. The end result is unknown. Am I building something specific? Only time will tell. It's just as much of a journey for me as it is for you.
