How I like to characterize Sprout is that he’s great talking with the ones he’s close with (Cosmo, Astro, etc.) But incredibly socially awkward with others. He comes off as brash, but he’s trying his best.

What guidelines do you try to follow when writing Sprout? I’m just curious.

ALSO NOTE THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY THIS IS MERELY MY INTERPRETATION OF HIS CHARACTER. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN!! Don't take my post as a mandatory guide to follow.

Let's talk about what's canon:

I like checking the Wikipedia for his dialogues every now and then to make sure he's not too out-of-character.

Sprout comes off as blunt, he does not sugarcoat his words when he has something to say.

Not even an excuse or a reason as to why he doesn't want to join Teagan for tea; It was straight up a "no" until Teagan told him Cosmo will join them too. (Also I want to point out he doesn't immediately say yes when he's told Cosmo will be there, so for all we know he'd still decline even if his best friend's joining Teagan).

Dandy's dialogue when you purchase Sprout. I think about it a lot. Out of all the character dialogues, the one with Astro is what I feel like is an example of his overprotectiveness coming across as "pushy".

He'd definitely be the type to scold his friends. Especially after Gardenview's shutdown with all the Twisteds wreaking havoc and whatnot. I don't think Sprout is fond of going on runs, but only does so he can watch over everyone and keep them safe. He makes sure everyone is focused and on high alert, he doesn't want anyone to be reckless.

He prioritizes safety over answers. His dialogue with Rodger shows that. Maybe he's also curious as to what has happened, because in Vee's dialogue he tried talking to Dandy only for Dandy to walk away. I assume Sprout just wanted to check up on him rather than knowing what's going on with Gardenview and the Twisteds.

Another thing I don't really see often is how Sprout is actually pretty forgetful and impulsive.

For a Toon who's constantly keeping watch on everyone he surely does not apply the same kind of attention to himself.

He talks before thinking about his words, but once he realized that he immediately apologized to Vee. I don't think he always notices when he comes across as rude though.

I actually think he's actually quite reckless when he bakes. I obviously can't show it in this post but if you look at that animation with Cosmo and Sprout baking they're not even measuring the ingredients. I mean what. 😭

The way he bakes feels so impulsive and it just looked like they were winging it. Somehow despite that their baked goods still end up great and that's honestly impressive.

Okay now for that dialogue between Bobette and Sprout, I was getting there-- I've never made a gingerbread house but from what I've seen from other people it requires a lot more patience and carefulness.

Sprout is neither.

According to him, his gingerbread house fell apart immediately and then he stopped trying afterwards. It's honestly funny.

I feel like this also shows through his stats. Both his extraction speed and skillcheck is 2 stars. His stamina and speed is way higher. He prefers running around, probably to make sure he can watch over everyone during their runs. That or because he has long legs.

Anyway to recap; Sprout in canon is blunt, pushy, overprotective, and impulsive. But he genuinely has good intentions and means well. He cares for his friends, which is why he scolds them because he wants to make sure they're safe.

Now for some headcanons:

Okay this is the part where I make stuff up. So it's just my take;

• He has ADHD.

I'M STARTING WITH THE NEURODIVERGENT HEADCANON.

This is not a unique headcanon. I've seen so many people who headcanons this too so it's relatively popular. Personally, I only see him with ADHD. (I'm projecting).

He's forgetful, impulsive, and quite socially awkward in a way aswell. He's easily distracted. He keeps forgetting about the oven. He's impulsive when baking. I'm a very impulsive and reckless person myself, I constantly make mistakes when I draw, yet somehow they end up okay 😭. When I'm not able to draw something right, I give up immediately. (I projected this onto the gingerbread house thing earlier).

• He comes across as intimidating.

You know in Kids' birthday parties when there's a mascot a lotta kids go run and hide? I based it off of that. I remember when I was like, 6 or 7, when a mascot came in I cried and hid under a table. They were tall.. <\3

I feel like there was a concerning number of kids who were actually afraid of him, despite how friendly he appears both in person and in the show. Maybe it's the RBF when he's not smiling..

I also like to think he's taller than some of the kids who comes to Gardenview which plays a factor to the whole "intimidating" thing. The way Sprout deals with this is giving the kids cupcakes or other sweets. Once the kids actually talk to him they're immediately comfortable.

• He was one of the very first to become "Twisted".

I don't have a concrete idea on how the story of the game goes, but I always imagine the Mains being the first victims. Sprout is a healer and he keeps an eye on everyone, so he had to go first.

My big old ramble abt dandys world ichor

Dandy needs the tapes to keep his ichor corruption at bay, I like to think he needs something inside the tapes that can combat ichor corruption

Toons are biologically engineered using ichor and other assorted materials, this is implying ichor can be classified as living

This also means ichor is like a blood to toons

Main toons contain more ichor than regulars and are more prone to corruption and other issues, thus the true reasons for the handlers (The regular ones being helping them out around gardenview with guests and stuff)

Ichor is transmitted via touch, once you come in contact with it, you are prone to corruption depending on the amt

Twisteds are fully corrupted scrapped toons who were left for research purposes, so when gardenview closed down, they managed to get out

Main toons were extremely well kept and hard to replicate therefore the reason they are so hard to come across as twisteds

The current toons have been around the longest out of any group of toons, due to gardenview believing they perfected their saftey against ichor

Twisteds are semi-conscious, some more coherent than others, but they do all feel and overwhelming violent agression towards the toons and living humans

The toons go on ichor runs to drain excess ichor, the reason for the corruption

Due to Dandy's corruption, he has lost most of his care for the others

There has only ever been one Dandy, he has never been replicated or replaced, thus why you only encounter him in a Dandy run

The only toon he still truely and fully cares for is Pebble, considering they were made to be together forever

Twisteds appearance alterations take at least a couple weeks to fully take effect, and it effects some worse than others (most notably the mains)

Dandys use of tapes most likely only works on him, and hes trying to figure out how to fully reverse the effects

Despite the ichor corruption causing the shutdown of gardenview, the toons still carry on with what they can (Vee runs her show, Dandy runs his shop, shelly studies dinosaurs, etc)

Sprout has always been way to overprotective, about his friends, about You, I mean you the most since yk. Partner. He always try’s to get you to take the meds even if you’re full up on them and at 3 hearts. Then if you won’t take them he’ll make someone else take them!!! You have to literally BEG. This man’s to take a health item. Boy could be distracting on 1 heart, verge of passing out and would still make sure you took a band if you got hit once. He can’t loose you… He lost so many others. Astro.. Cosmo… Pebs.. Shelly… He can’t loose the one he loves most… He can’t loose you. So, he’ll make sure to heal you. To give you all the meds you need. But when you explain to him that, him not taking care of himself, or letting himself get hurt, hurts you…he gives in; and starts taking bands once in a while… You still have to beg him to pick one up if you’re on 2 hp, and have no meds. But he starts being a LITTLE more selfish and takes them. He calls it selfish at least. He always reminds himself, every time he takes a band, or a med… He’s alive for you. And he can’t die. Because you need him.

My friend brought up the idea that Dazzle was still conscious as a Twisted (Glisten style) but is unable to express it because of Razzle and I went feral

I think the reasoning was because Dazzle looks in genuine distress and her teeth are flat while Razzle's are sharp. It could very clearly be a desgin choice, but that never stopped me

Led me into thinking about certain aspects of them with this HC

First off: Dazzle being unable to communicate to anyone. You can only speak so well with half a mouth. Also I feel like Razzle would quickly shut Razzle down is she tried to talk

(Twisted Razzle is a whole other can of worms)

Second: I think it would be neat that she's the one actually keeping Razzle "down," if that makes sense. Like, if she wasn't there, Razzle would be hostile to anyone who walked in his circle.

I dunno. I like Dazzle a lot and wanna make her special. Also the angst ideas feed me <3

♡ It’s probably obvious to say that Shrimpo absolutely despises showing affection and dislikes receiving it even more (or at least that’s what he pretends), but you don’t really give him much of a choice. No matter how often he pushes you away, you always return with the same unwavering determination. Your kindness is just as relentless as his disdain, which makes you two an oddly fitting pair.

♡ Initially, he bullied you more than he did most others, driven by your unwavering kindness toward him. He resorted to his usual antics—yelling, claiming to hate you, and both verbally and physically pushing you away—classic Shrimpo behavior. Despite his efforts to repel you, he soon realized that his usual tactics were ineffective. Reluctantly, he began to tolerate your presence, much to his frustration and your satisfaction.

♡ It’s no surprise that Shrimpo gets hurt frequently—almost daily, in fact. Whether it’s from fighting with other toons or simply stumbling into various accidents, he often ends up covered in bumps, bruises, and small cuts. Fortunately, you’re always there to patch him up. He’ll grumble and yell the entire time, of course, but he reluctantly allows you to apply bandages and bandaids wherever they’re needed. Amusingly, a few days later, he’ll return and demand that you remove them immediately which is likely his way of showing he trusts you with his care.

♡ Whenever you’re at risk of being harmed by a Twisted or any other threat, Shrimpo never hesitates to rush in, scoop you up, and lift you into the air while making a swift retreat. He shouts at you the entire time as he charges toward the nearest safe spot. However, the moment you reward his efforts with a quick kiss on the cheek, his demeanor shifts entirely. His iconic angry expression remains, but now it’s accompanied by a deep scarlet blush as he stomps his feet and marches off in flustered indignation.

♡ When he opts to trade his usual outfit for his Dark Spikes attire, you shower him with affectionate compliments, which quickly tests his patience. He’ll yell at you before storming off, but when you persist, continuing your praise, he’ll metaphorically cover his ears and scrunch his face in frustration, attempting to drown you out by shouting over your words. The only remarks he seems to accept without protest are when you call him “cool” or “awesome.”

♡ Shrimpo regularly creates chaotic messes, tossing and throwing things around for no apparent reason. He usually leaves the mess for the other toons to deal with, who understandably complain the entire time. Except for you, of course. Since he endures your over-the-top kindness so often, he makes an effort not to create too much of a mess when you’re around, just to avoid watching you clean it up with such relentless cheerfulness. However, when he inevitably does make a mess in your presence, he’ll surprisingly pitch in to help. “I’M THE BEST AT CLEANING! WHY ARE YOU EVEN TRYING?!” He’ll shout.

♡ If you attempt to hold his hand, he’ll immediately pull it away and shout that he hates hand-holding and doesn’t want to be touched. However, you persist despite his louder protests and attempts to shake you off. Eventually, he gives up and begrudgingly allows you to hold his hand whenever you like, all while muttering angrily under his breath. Over time, though, he starts grabbing your hand first and declares he hates not holding hands. I suppose that could be considered a victory.

♡ Hugging him was an enormous challenge at first. Whenever you wrapped him in a tight, affectionate hug, he’d scream and thrash like a child mid-tantrum. His relentless flailing made it nearly impossible to hold on, and he always managed to wriggle free within seconds. Did that deter you? Absolutely not! In fact, you started hugging him even more often. While Shrimpo still isn’t a fan of your embraces, he seems to tolerate them when he’s particularly overwhelmed with anger. At least now he has a reliable way to calm down, even if he never says it aloud.

♡ Shrimpo is incredibly picky about his food, despising most dishes and the toons who prepare them. Often, he won’t even consider trying something if he dislikes its appearance or smell. That is, of course, with one exception—your cooking. Initially, he refused to eat anything you made, but after sneaking a bite of the pancakes you prepared when you weren’t looking, he suddenly couldn’t get enough of them. You always decorate them with a whipped cream smiley face and a syrup heart around it. Though he grumbles and eats in a strangely aggressive, messy way, he secretly loves it. He even has a soft spot for the smiley face.

♡ One thing he truly despises is the ironic heart-shaped pattern on the back of his head, but you absolutely adore it. You often tease him about it, calling it adorable while lightly poking and prodding at it as he furiously shakes his head in a futile attempt to make you stop. He’s secretly relieved that you’re always behind him when you do this; he’d be mortified if you saw his flushed, blushing face.
