if anyone is planning on traveling to sweden for the terrible influence tour, please see this as your heads up that, at least right now, there is a ban on any and all bags for events. i’m really hoping they’ll put this on the ticketmaster site as well, but in case they don’t! this is your heads up.

no bags, no matter how small, are allowed into the building. the venue is right next to the central train station in Stockholm where they have some lockers to rent, but my suggestion would be to leave your bag in your accommodation if possible.

I noticed how fandom almost A L W A Y S blames Runo for the fightings and miscommunications she and Dan had during the season 1 and bit of S2 when Dan was the one who normally started the fightings concious and inconcious however I agree both had a lack of communication skills and why their discussions sound childlike and few times apologized with each other for their actions (but many tend to forget both are inmature kids and while not an excuse it's normal 12 years old act like that but villanize her while act like Runo always wanted to fight with him when she was just minding her business 95% of time)

The crime this girl commited was being emotionally inmature and not identify in which moment she should discuss with Dan (ex, when she defended Marucho after he lost preyas and Dan didn't care so much and wanted to keep looking for masquerade even when the team was not feeling well)

throwback to this one argument i had with a redditor about dan and runo

"yeah dan is an angry idiot but—" but there's no but.

it's the hypocrisy for me, ignoring dan's immature outbursts and only focusing on how annoying runo is. i can guarantee you that 90% of the time, runo only ever argues with dan because he's being a dick. either he's trash talking shun during his moment of grief, or throwing drago in the river for rightfully calling him out on his carelessness, or he's eating without a care as to how devastated julie is over billy turning evil, or pressuring marucho to disclose the location of masquerade's hideout when he's still recovering from losing preyas, or—you get the idea.

i'm not saying runo doesn't have her moments where she's immature or mean but more often than not, she's being the mature one, taking action to get shun back on the team, checking in on julie and marucho and alice when they're going through stuff, and standing up to dan when he's being overly unreasonable. how is she annoying? is it because dan is so popular and so great that his fans can't stand to see him in the wrong? some people just can't admit that runo is a much better friend than he is.

had to watch the new Folding Ideas video twice, read all of the comments, watched Lady Emily's video, watch an AVGN video for the first time (sorry i'm gen z), failed to get through Wavelength (1967), read a bunch about Wavelength (1967), and read through a bunch of Twitter comments, but i think i'm finally understanding the artistry in "i don't know james rolfe"

narratively it's dan olson revealing the rorschach test of media analysis, i.e. there was no way for him to critically analyze james rolfe's career without revealing all of his own obsessions and insecurities, just as james rolfe reveals himself through his film and video game reviews. this concept is lampshaded by the highlighting of Wavelength (1967), an extremely minimal and obtuse film that engages with the idea of inattention — meaning that bored or negative responses to the work are still responses to the theme. which is cool.

and it's cool that criticisms of dan olson's video include people upset that he hyper-focused on specific elements of james rolfe's life and not other, arguably more important elements, such as the Monster Madness controversy or james's time in special ed — almost as though the character of dan olson is cherrypicking aspects of james rolfe's life that are the most personally wounding to him. aspects that expose dan's insecurities relating to filmmaking and failed dreams, expressed through the vessel of AVGN.

but meta narratively, the video becomes a rorschach test for the audience — your response to the video reveals your own obsessions and insecurities in how you relate to dan olson. why does someone find the video mean-spirited? why does someone else think the video is self-serving? why do I feel so awkward watching dan attempt a deeper, more abstract creative work?

where does dan olson end and the character of dan olson as a media critic begin? where do you as an audience member end, and YOU begin?
