Daichi Sawamura + New years kiss + newly dating couples
Birthday boy deserves it ✨
daichi sawamura x will you be my new year's kiss?
You’ve been dating Daichi Sawamura for less than two months but when he asked whether you wanted to spend new year’s eve with him, you didn’t think twice about saying yes.
That’s not to say you aren’t feeling nervous about tonight: while Daichi is very kind and never once made you feel uncomfortable, sometimes it’s hard not to feel intimidated by his innate charisma. He’s so attractive and he hardly even tries, which is so unfair. New year’s eve can put a lot of pressure on couples and while you’re not official yet (hence why you don’t expect any serious commitment on his side) it must mean something that he wants to spend such a special night with you. Everything has to be perfect.
Little do you know Daichi is on the exact same page and when he rings your doorbell, he’s more nervous than he’s ever been. When was the last time he spent new year’s eve with a significant other? He genuinely can’t remember, casual dating is not really his thing and he’s not been in a proper relationship in years. If tonight goes well, maybe he’ll be able to muster the courage to ask you to be his girlfriend.
“Hey”, you smile as you open the door. His brain short circuits upon seeing how pretty you are in the outfit you’ve picked, reply coming after a pause that stretches for a moment too long.
“Wow. I mean, hi”, Daichi clears his throat, nose a pretty shade of darker pink and a few snowflakes melting on his shoulders, “you look beautiful”.
“Thank you. Come in, I need five more minutes”, with a grin, you take his hand to gently guide him inside. He hums, gloved hands softly tilt your face towards his.
“Did I already comment on how gorgeous you are right now?”, Daichi smiles when you wrap your arms around his waist and bring him closer with an airy chuckle, lips brushing against his.
“I wouldn’t mind hearing it again”.
He clicks his tongue.
“You’re so beautiful. Can’t believe you’re my date for new year’s eve”.
“You’re not too bad yourself”, you smile and kiss him, because you can’t quite believe he’s your date either.
The familiar sound of a ringtone interrupts the sweet moment and you step back, giving him space to take the call.
“Be right back”, you mouth as Daichi brings the phone to his ear with a dopey smile.
“Hey, mom. No, not yet, why? Oh. No, sorry, you know I have plans already… well, can’t you tell them? No, don’t put her on the phone, don’t-”, he heaves a deep sigh, “hi, Emi”.
As you make sure you have everything in your purse, you curiously listen to the odd conversation and watch him pace across the living room, getting increasingly restless. When he runs a hand through his hair, you ask what’s going on and he briefly presses the phone to his chest.
“My siblings. They want to spend tonight with me, christmas wasn’t too fun because they were sick. I’m trying to explain that I’m busy”, he whispers, then resumes the conversation in a normal tone, “I’m really sorry, Emi. I know. What if I come by tomorrow? No, stop, I can’t talk to Daisuke, I’m in a rush-”
With a giggle, you watch as Daichi shuts his eyes, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Tell them they should come. We can pick them up”.
He looks at you, astonished.
“What? But-”
“Please! We’ll take a stroll and watch the fireworks together. Plus, I get to meet them”.
You know they’re way younger than him and, honestly, despite the perspective of meeting part of his family during the holidays feeling scary and all, it also fills you with excitement.
And so, you do end up picking them up. His mom is so sweet and you’re the one she thanks the most, she takes your hands in hers and bows and tells you just how happy she is that he’s son has finally found someone special. Daichi’s face is so red his youngest sister asks if he’s sick.
Dinner reservations are promptly cancelled but you hardly care as two smaller gloved hands are holding yours, guiding you towards different kiosks amidst crowded streets. Daichi buys six portions of traditional toshikoshi soba from a portable vending stall and you all eat together, chatter and light teasing warming your heart as you’re exposed to his older brother side for the first time. He’s sweet, which doesn’t come as a surprise at all, and caring. Makes sure his siblings eat without getting too distracted by all the questions they ask you, an endless, rapid sequence you can hardly keep up with.
They’re surprised when you ask back, curious about their favorite colors, which presents they received for christmas, Daichi’s most embarrassing moments when he was younger. He huffs but there’s so much affection simmering beneath an exasperated smile, one hand distractedly playing with Emi’s dark hair.
It’s almost midnight and Daichi’s siblings couldn’t care less as they glide from one end of the ice rink to the other, the upcoming shrine visit long forgotten. You rest your head on Daichi’s shoulder while you watch them and his arm is around your waist to keep you close.
“Thank you for doing this”, he murmurs, “I’ll make it up to you”.
“There’s nothing to make up for. I had so much fun, they’re really sweet”.
“Runs in the family”, he grins and you roll your eyes.
“Hard to disagree. You are sweet”.
He hums, content.
“So, will you be my new year’s kiss? Given that I’m sweet. And so handsome”.
You look up and meet his playful gaze, soft smile tugging at your lips. A light snow is falling, frosty flakes already melting in the creases of his green scarf.
“Yes”. Given that I’m also falling in love with you.
thank you for trusting my writing and for drawing yet another GORGEOUS header, hope you enjoy! happy holidays mwah

idea! daichi and suga are NOT dating (even though both of them want to), but everyone THINKS they are! so when someone mentions offhandedly that the two are dating, and it becomes clear that they are not joking and genuinely think so, it becomes very awkward!
daichi's probably thinking, like, "well now it'll be weird to ask him out because he'll think I've just been influenced by this rando and didn't come up with the idea myself and-"
and suga probably says out loud, "uh, no, daichi's dating michimiya"
which causes even MORE confusion, because no! he is not! but suga can't come up with any other explanation for why daichi hasn't asked him out yet! and daichi finally figures out that that's why suga hasn't responded to any of his awkward attempts at flirting!
#miscommunication trope without the angst my beloved#haikyuu#daisuga#sawamura daichi#sugawara koushi#also. almost called michimiya “morisuke”#which. heh. is not the same name#sorry I just really like yaku and want him everywhere

Remember that pirate AU idea I had for the hq boys? Turns out I had written a snippet for it to get the idea rolling and FORGOT ABOUT IT. anyways here it is - it reminds me that I need to research shiptalk (i.e., how a ship is actually run and not just what I remember from pirates of the caribbean). Enjoy!
There's a slash of a sword under Daichi's chin, the edge cold and sharp against his skin. It stills and presses into his neck, his suppressed gasp causing his Adam's apple to hit against the metal.
Oikawa smiles down at him. "Where's your luck now, captain?"
He says it mockingly, the words meant to pierce him harsher than the sword pressed to his throat. But Daichi knows better, hell, he had to. You didn't live this long in his kind of life without an ounce of intelligence.
He hears Bokuto cough behind him. Ah, fine. Dumbass luck was also a key factor sometimes.
Daichi grabs the sword pressed to his throat, ignoring how it cuts into his palm as if he was merely holding back a stick than a weapon intended to kill. Oikawa's face falls from one of triumph to disbelief and concern, watching as Daichi pushes back against his sword with his bare hand.
The two struggle as Daichi walks Oikawa back to the mast, gritting his teeth with the pain and effort. He can hear Kuroo complaining in the background, reminding them that this was a practice fight, but he ignored that, too. Nothing was a simple practice out here: it was fight or die, they all knew that. He knew Oikawa understood that too, struggling to push his sword harder into Daichi's palm as he dug his feet into the wooden flooring to stop Daichi from controlling his movements. He could see it in Oikawa's eyes, the determination to win.
But Oikawa had been wrong about one thing.
Daichi tightens his grip on the sword and pushes himself against it, the edge digging into his skin as he pushes it against Oikawa's own neck, dangerous to the both of them now. Oikawa grits his teeth as the sword angles towards him, Daichi's weight preventing him from moving it elsewhere. They're in a standoff, the sword able to cut both of them unless one of them gave up.
He stares hard into Oikawa's wide, frantic eyes and with that, he knew it wasn't going to be him.
Daichi smiles and leans closer to whisper into his ear, the sword digging into his neck as he says, "I make my own luck."
The sword drops between them with a clatter, amidst a series of laughter and whoops surrounding them from the rest of the crew. Kuroo lands a hand on his shoulder, pulling them apart with a grin.
"Save some of the homoerotics for the rest of us, yeah?"
Bokuto wraps an arm around Daichi from the other side, eyes wide and hopeful, "Is that what we're having for dinner tonight?"
Oikawa groans, pushing himself off of the mast and uncrumpling his shirt. Daichi laughs as Oikawa spots a dot of blood on it, dark amongst the linen, and gasps, "You're all insane! I should've never agreed to set foot on this ship."
"You didn't," a voice says from the right of them. They all turn to see Ushijima with his back to them, retying a rope that must've come undone during their fight.
Oikawa arches an eyebrow at him, scoffing, "Excuse me?"
Kuroo and Bokuto glance at each other over Daichi's head before stepping back simultaneously. Daichi crosses his arms over his chest, watching in wait. Ushijima must feel the stares on him because his back tightens a little as he stands up straight.
He turns around to face them, one hand resting on the rope as he replies matter-of-factly, "You set two feet on this ship. Not one."
Kuroo and Bokuto bust out laughing, and even Daichi can't help the chuckle that leaves him. Oikawa huffs and grabs his sword from the floor before leaving the rest of them to laugh harder upon his exit, all the while grumbling to himself. Ushijima watches Oikawa leave with furrowed brows before glancing at them, almost unsure of what he'd said that was wrong.
Daichi pushes Kuroo off of his back from where he'd rested himself in his laughing fit to make his way to Ushijima, patting him on the shoulder. "Don't worry about it."
There's a thud of something in the distance that quiets the laughter. Daichi looks over the side of the ship into the blue water, waves crashing harder against the hull than had occurred an hour ago. A scream sounded in the distance.
He sighed.
Daichi feels a pat on his shoulder and looks up to see Ushijima staring at him, knowing it was meant to reassure him. He nods and turns to face the crew scattered near him.
He takes in a breath, "She's here - get to your posts! Run the rigging, man the sails, and whatever you do, do not look her in the eye!"
A series of shouts affirm his instructions and he turns to face the sea again, watching the waves crash harder against them, the screams becoming louder to his ears. He puts a hand to his throat, pulling it away to find a small smear of blood on it, matching the one from his cut palm. He grimaces.
Suga was going to kill him, if the kraken didn't succeed first.

DaiSuga Week Day 5
General Prompt: Partners Universe: Later in Life Meeting Quote: “You just gonna stand there and stare, or are you gonna give me a hand?" Song: "The Bones" by Hozier/Maren Morris
Words: 1,010
Summary after the cut:
"Sawamura, move to the back with Sugawara."
Suga wasn't paying attention, but he sure as fuck was now. He watched with a slack jaw as Daichi stood and walked to the back, shooting him a friendly smile and plopping down next to him in a chair.
The universe was so kind today.
"I'm Daichi, I don't believe we've met before," he smiled, leaning his arms on the table and looking over at Suga. Suga tried very hard not to stutter. "I'm Sugawara, but Suga is fine. Nice to meet you."
While Daichi insisted that everyone he met called him his first name, claiming everyone was his friend, Sugawara decided he was not friendly enough to do that. A nickname would have to do.
Daichi was the definition of a popular guy. He was sweet and smiled at literally everyone with all his teeth. He was the kind of guy to throw his jacket in a puddle so his date wouldn't have to walk in the water. Suga could not say the same for himself, but he sure as hell could appreciate it.
Daichi moved his focus back to the professor, who started to explain the project. Suga kept his attention firmly on Daichi's muscular arms that leaned on the table, like always. How he was passing that class, he did not know. ------------- Daichi and Suga are paired up for a chemistry lab, and Suga is a weak man.
Thanks to @daisugaweek2024 for running this event!

Not to be all "Jaden did nothing wrong", but ever since I first watched those episodes, I've always believed that it was just a case of writer bias because of how out of character it was for Jaden to do that. He's always been shown to be incredibly loyal to his friends, even in season 4 when he's depressed and sad all the time and they only ever talk to him when they want something from him. He goes out of his way to cheer Syrus up and bring him food, he goes to the fucked up monster dimension to bring Johan back, will generally drop anything he's doing to help a friend out, so for him to just ignore Bastion when he's crying out to be recognized just felt like something he'd never do. Because what possible reason would he have to start ignoring Bastion in season 2 after how much they bonded in season 1.
It fucking sucks and you can tell the writers just wanted him gone because they literally write Bastion out of the show by season 4. He doesn't get to be part of the intro. He just stays in the fucked up monster dimension with his abuser totally of his own free will so they never have to do anything with him again and god I hate it I hate it I hate it
Yeah but no it’s really fucked up that in the friendship show yugioh, Bastion experienced an extreme mental breakdown and gave himself up to a cult and the protagonist of friendship show just forgot about him or worse left him on purpose…after he saves Alexis he just focuses on beating sartorious. The reason he ended up in that extreme spiral and got into the cult was because his friends ignored his cries for help and when he’s trapped in a cult where even the cult doesn’t appreciate him…he is once again left behind. No because genuinely Jaden that was a shitty thing to do. You worked to save all your friends except Bastion. Bastion who has been nothing but a good friend to you and kind to you when even Alexis and Chazz were mean.
Bastion was told no one cared about him and that he was worthless and was proved right. He was proved right. All the work he put into his life was meaningless because no one loved him and no one ever would.
#bastion my fucking beloved im so sorry these ugly hoes (the writers) would do that you im so sorry#you deserve so much better and i make sure i always give that to him in my aus. yes there is heavy angst But he gets happy endings#because its what he deserves#yugioh gx#bastion misawa#daichi misawa

Shan's Favorite Dramas of 2024
The year is wrapping up and I have forced myself to narrow down to a list of 15 (I tried 10 but the choices were too hard!) of my favorite 2024 dramas across genres and countries of origin. This is not every drama I liked this year (that list would be incredibly long), but these are the ones that inspired the most brain rot and really stuck with me.
At 25:00 in Akasaka (Japan, Gaga)
The mood and tone of this drama was just perfect, and I loved the way it explored the blurred lines and confusion that can result when the real and fake aspects of a professional relationship get all mixed up. Hayama was a great character and I loved his arc, in particular.
Cherry Magic (Thailand, Viu)
I still can't believe how much I loved this adaptation. A fantastic example of taking a work from another culture and translating it to a new context while not only retaining the core narrative, but even enhancing it. This show gave us what the Japanese version didn't--the resolution to the physical intimacy arc at the core of the premise--and retained all the charm of the original while adding new humor. And delivered one of the best romances of the year while it was at it!
Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear (Japan, fansub)
Oppan, my beloved. Easily the best family drama of the year, loaded with excellent messages while (mostly) avoiding feeling like an after-school special. Makoto's journey to update his thinking with Daichi's help, and the mutual friendship that developed between them, is one of my favorite relationships of the year. I loved every character's story; there is something for everyone to connect with in this show.
Fangs of Fortune (China, iQIYI)
This drama was just so much FUN. A gorgeous feast for the eyes, a wealth of fascinating characters and relationship dynamics, and a fast-moving plot that you don't need to try too hard to understand. It was a great binge and Li Lun was easily my favorite villain of the year.
Gyeongseong Creature (South Korea, Netflix)
A gorgeous period piece set during one of the darkest chapters of Korean history, this one took me by surprise (I am usually not a horror girlie). The writing for this show had surprising depth and I loved its themes around family and loyalty and survival under fascism.
Knock Knock Boys (Thailand, Gaga)
My boys! I loved this show about a group of four queer men living together in a shared house, getting into mischief and supporting each other through school and work and relationship struggles. The show is funny and breezy but also manages to tackle some serious issues with grace while delivering two strong romances and my favorite coming out narrative of the year.
Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo (South Korea, iQIYI)
Winner for best QL of the year, and a romance that will be sticking with me for a long time. Dohoe is one of the most honest and unflinching depictions of a an adult psyche shaped by childhood abuse that I have ever seen on my screen. It was healing to see him treated with such compassion and to see him and Juyoung find their way to a happy life together. An absolute must watch for all you angst with a happy ending fans.
Love for Love’s Sake (South Korea, iQIYI)
It's so hard to get a high concept premise like this right, but this drama did an amazing job with it. It's one of those shows where you can go back over everything that happened in retrospect and it all adds up, and I loved that the ending lent itself to so many different interpretations. One of the best watch experiences of the year.
Love in the Big City (South Korea, Viki)
Go Young, my beloved. This drama adaptation of the internationally successful novel exceeded my wildest expectations, and I am still a little stunned that we got the privilege of seeing it. It is, bar none, the most authentically queer show on this list, and a beautiful depiction of all the significant relationships in one young man's life. I will be rewatching it many times and keeping it close to my heart.
Love is Like a Poison (Japan, fansub)
A masterful blend of comedy, action, and romance, this drama about a lawyer with delusions of grandeur and the scam artist who decides to become his partner was a constant delight and gave us my favorite battle couple of the year.
Marahuyo Project (Philippines, YouTube)
I can't tell you the joy and relief I felt to get another high quality queer drama from the Philippines this year. And this one had such a great cast of characters, anchored by one of my favorite protagonists of the year in King. It's funny, it's romantic, it's touching, and as always for a JP Haboc production, it has an amazing soundtrack.
She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat (Japan, fansub)
My girls! I'm still amazed by how much this drama gave us in its second season by expanding the world of the show beyond our two main characters to include so many other women whose stories were just as fascinating. This is the season where Nomoto and Kasuga really came into themselves and started building the life they want to have together, and it was a real joy to watch.
Tender Light (China, YouKu)
The way this show had me in a chokehold while it was airing! Visually stunning, incredibly well-constructed, and featuring one of the best performances of the year from Zhang Xin Cheng, it's an exhilarating mystery and a very touching story of the unusual bond between a student and the older woman who fascinates and terrifies him.
The Midnight Romance in Hagwon (South Korea, Viki)
You know a drama is good when it has you deeply invested in a random topic you never thought you were interested in. In this case, that's the intense debate on pedagogical methods between the public schools and hagwons in Korea. Alongside delivering a great romance, this drama was passionate about teaching and it sucked me right in to the Korean literature lessons at the heart of the story.
Unknown (Taiwan)
No other drama inspired more brain rot in me this year than this story of a family rocked by changing feelings as the chosen siblings grow up. The loyalty and love and complex desire between Wei Qian and Wei Yuan is the heart of this story, and the drama did an incredible job of taking us along for the journey as things shifted and changed between them. I still think about them all the time.
Bonus: Favorite Classic Dramas Watched for the First Time in 2024
I am always catching up on an endless backlog of dramas alongside my live watches. Here are the best gems I finally watched this year.
Lost (South Korea, Viki)
I loved this deeply melancholy drama about two lost souls who connect unexpectedly. I finally pulled it up from my to be watched list because it shares director Hur Jin Ho with Love in the Big City (he did part 2 with Go Young's mom) and it sure feels like it! The characters are deep and complicated, the relationships are complex and carefully built, and it is hands down the best encapsulation of a failed marriage between two good people who truly loved each other that I have ever seen. It's heavy and not for everyone--mining the depths of human despair is kind of its thing--but if you like this sort of story it's world class.
Mouse (South Korea, Viki)
I was recently in the market for a good mystery thriller, so I finally watched this apparently very divisive 2021 drama--and if there's a divide I am firmly on the HELL YEAH side of the line. This drama had an interesting concept (that I will not describe bc holy shit spoilers, you should go in knowing nothing) that it unwound with remarkable patience and precision over 20 episodes. Its themes were strong and consistent, the lead characters were super compelling, the plotting and pacing and editing were unbelievably tight, the performances were incredible, and it made a lot of provocative points and ended well, feeling coherent and complete. It sustained my full interest and attention without any stumbles for ~25 incredible hours.
Mr. Sunshine (South Korea, Netflix)
Another one that's been on my watch list forever and finally got its moment when I was in the mood for a historical where ladies got to wield weapons alongside the men. And unsurprisingly, I loved it. Writer Kim Eun Sook is known for her big, glossy, epic dramas, and her style made a good pairing with a story about a rebel faction during the Japanese occupation of Korea. I really loved all the main characters in this show, and was moved by the complicated exploration of their loyalty (or lack thereof) to their homeland. This drama also has a very strong class analysis baked into its themes, which I very much appreciated. It was a traumatic watch, but in a way that felt right given the setting and the choices characters made.
The Miracle of Teddy Bear (Thailand, YouTube)
I watched this one on a mission and it was worth every moment. Nut is one of my favorite protagonists in any queer drama, and I thought the show made great use of its fantasy concept to explore some very real human experiences with depth and compassion. This show feels like an especially important counterpoint to the Thal BL bubble, and I recommend it highly for anyone who enjoys those dramas.
When I Fly Towards You (China, Netflix)
And we end on a light and sweet note, with my favorite coming of age romance that I watched all year. This drama was just lovely, and it will be a go-to rewatch for me for years to come. There’s something so comforting about a story where you start with the happy ending before jumping to the beginning, and just get to sit back and see how they get there. I loved all the characters in this and marveled at how it was never boring despite being decidedly low angst.
