No one would believe him how many dad-jokes his love makes on a regular Basis.

Like yesterday, when Magnus rolled Chairman Meow into a towel and told Alec it's a "Purrito".

I can so see jace being the parent who gets on his kids to make their beds

I can also see him being baffled at their possible interests in mundane culture but also him and clary secretly being relieved their kids have a childhood of putting posters on walls

literally could talk about this man as a father forever

dude you're so right with all of this. and the relief.. ugh i feel like there will be a lot of that as his child(ren) get older and the results of like actually having a childhood in which they are loved and respected begin to reveal themselves. like imagine what joy him and clary will get just from raising their kids without lies. with restrictions and guidelines and discipline, yes, but also with honestly and like legit reasons for why those rules (like making your bed etc.) are in place. and with fun that doesn't just come on birthdays and with the freedom to express themselves while knowing full well who they are (or at least as much as they can). i just feel like they'd cultivate such a beautiful home.

on that same note i'm kind of a massive fan of how adoption works in the tsc universe. if you see a child on the street and you like them you can just take them home if you want. however they have to explicity decide for themselves if they want to actually be your child otherwise they'll just be considered a random person who lives in your house. if needed surname changes can be done by just saying you have a new last name now. every part of this is legal

“You don’t have to stay here for me,” He tells Max.

Max hums, “I know. I want to.”

“You must be really worried about me if you’re willing to wash dishes just to tell me all this,” Alec says, bringing levity to the situation. 

But today seems to be one of those days that’s not going to end without a heavy load on his heart, the kind that ends in tears because Max doesn’t smile even then. He doesn’t make some crass joke or tries diffuse the situation.

He gives Alec a small, frankly pathetically sad smile as he says, “I’m worried about you, dad.”

Alec moves closer to Max and squishes his ears, the way he’s been doing since Max was a baby. “Ari is not going away to another planet, you know?”

Max sniffles and collides against his chest. 

��What’s going on?” 

Alec groans. “Fucking great.”

“What?” “Nothing,” Alec says sweetly, “Max is being a dramatic little shit. Please make him stop.”

“Max,” Ari says seriously. “Are you hogging my dad time?”

Max blows the soapy water at Ari. “There’s no such thing as ‘dad’ time, you little princess.”

“There is,” Both Alec and Ari points out at the same time, high-fiving without looking at each other.

Ragnor: "I said no pets as long as we have to live together."

Magnus: "Look Ragnor, me having catnip in my pocket and making psspsspss sounds while walking, does not mean I brought a cat home. It followed me. You said while we live together, I'm not allowed to bring in pets. You didn't say anything about strays following me and deciding they would like to stay."

Catharina: "The Alpha from the Toulon werewolf clan asked me to give this to you." hands over a Father's Day card

Magnus: "Sentimental pup. Did I ever tell you how I met her?"

Catharina, eying stack of similar cards on the living room table: "I can't recall. But I have a feeling it's a familiar story."

Magnus, eyeing Catharina eyeing his cards: "… They all followed me home."

I keep imagining Clace, Sizzy, Malec, Blackstairs, KitTy, and Drash kids just rushing headlong into danger and their parent's trying with all their might to stop them.

For Clace, I think it would go something like:

Jace: Oh, you're not going anywhere.

Clace kid/kids: Oh come on! It's just one tiny war!

Clary: NO! You're barely 18!

Clace kids: You really wanna pull that card? What about the time you went to Hell, bargained with a Prince of Hell, killed your demon brother, and saved the world? All when you both were under 18!

Jace: There's only so many times that you can remind us of that until it starts getting old, you know.

Clace kids: As opposed to the many, many, many other times you risked your lives to save the world?

For Sizzy, maybe:

Isabelle: Under no circumstances are you allowed to just go off like that! Simon, help!

Simon: She's right, y'know.

Sizzy kids: Oh come on, Dad! You fought the Angel Raziel when you were a vampire, and you won't let us do this one thing?

Simon: *aghast* I most certainly did not fight the Angel Raziel! God, what has Max been telling you?

Sizzy kids: Then what did you do?

Simon: I just, y'know, loaned a heavenly sword off him. *pause* I just now realise that that doesn't make it any better, does it?

Sizzy kids: Nope.

Isabelle: Simon, you're supposed to be on my side!

Simon: *in anguish* I am!

Maybe for Malec:

Alec: Running off into danger is, admittedly, what we do, but this seems unnecessary, don't you think?

Magnus: *gently* We have to let them do this.

Rafe/Max: Thank you!

Magnus: Okay, ground rules. Dying or losing your limbs is not an option.

Alec: Also, Rafe's in charge.

Max: Oh come on! It's because he's older, isn't he?

Alec: No, it's because he has a sense of preservation.

Blackstairs:

Emma: Absolutely NOT! You're not even 18 yet!

Blackstairs kids: You were our age when you travelled to an alternate dimension and killed a version of Sebastian Morgenstern! How is that any different?

Julian: The difference is that we didn't have a choice, but you do.

Blackstairs kids: So what? We choose to fight! We're Shadowhunters, it's what we do! *storms off*

Julian: Just so you know, you're grounded!

Emma: *turning to Julian* Were we this bad?

Julian: Don't know what you're talking about. We were perfect angels, quite literally.

In my head, Drash and KitTy will have pretty similar scenarios so:

Drash & KitTy kids: *whipping out a written list of all the things that their parents did when they were young*

Drash/KitTy: *interrupts* You know what? We're not even gonna try.

I guess the pattern I can say is I tend to cut to the chase? In Chinese we call it 開門見山 Kai Men Jian Shan "Open the Door and you see the mountain". This phrase has been repeated in my Chinese writing class so many times during high school lol
