Hey support. I gave my phone to my dad for safekeeping while I went to a doctors appointment. During the appointment, I started feeling strange, like I was getting dumber? Also my shirt feels tight, don’t know if that’s something.
It's just a screening appointment. I'm here because I need to get my blood levels checked. Of course, I know for a fact that the doctor will say something about my cholesterol levels again. He will say something about the fact that I should do more sport. What should I do? I'm a junior in college. It is extremely challenging to keep up with the curriculum.
The shirt is not only tight, it is also itchy. It would be nice if the doctor came soon. Then I can finally take it off for the examination. I don't have forever. I have to be back on campus by 4 p.m. at the latest. Otherwise I won't have enough time to warm up before training.
I hope da doc isn't uh wimp. Yes, I cud have taken uh shower before going to da doctor. But before da doctor wuz gym, afta da doctor is football training. Ha much sense does uh shower make? let me check my armpit. Yes, gud jock sweat. Da doctor will like that.
Bruh, I'm lowkey praying this ain't nah shredded muscle or somethin wild like that. Haha, damn, I probably went ham on dem weights, but you know ha it goes on chest day - total amnesia, all about them pecs! I live for chest day!
Yo fam, like, why do I gotta chill on this chair every time for them to drain my blood? n why does da doc gotta inspect my balls first, like, what even? but hey, he's da med guru, he must know his shit, right? lit to know that my coach is posted up in da waiting room holding down my celly. Praying I can bounce back to ballin' with da squad pronto. Da ultimate showdown is goin' down this weekend. N coach dropped uh hint about needing uh fresh QB on da team. Please, oh please, let it be yours truly!

Unspoken Bonds (Olivia Benson X Friend! Reader, Rafael Barba X Reader)
Request: Hello, there! I would like to request an Olivia Benson x Friend!Reader were reader and some friends in the alley near Olivia's apartment building. One day, after a fight with her boyfriend, reader is drinking beer in the spot she usually hangs out at, and Olivia talks her into going back into the apartment. They talk, and Olivia cooks her dinner. Olivia asks reader to join her some other time.
A/N: This request has been tweaked with the boyfriend but not boyfriend just someone the reader has been crushing on being Barba and the fight being him leaving the squad after his trial! I hope you like it so sorry it took so long!
--------------
The air in the alley was usually welcoming. The hushed whispers, the laughter.
Today it seemed quiet. Tense.
You walked, a frown on you face as you rushed into the bar. You were not by any means a drinker, but you always came with the squad to drink after a case.
You sighed. There was no one here today and you needed a drink.
Or two or three.
Earlier in the day, a heated argument had erupted between you and Rafael. He was found not guilty and yet instead of celebrating you found yourself even more upset.
He wanted to leave. Leave the DA's office. Leave the squad.
Leave you.
It angered you how you had supported him from the moment he pulled the plug and it had all been for nothing. The weight of the disagreement lingered heavily in the air as you found yourself drowning another drink.
You loved him.
Not that he knew, of course. To him, you were just a friend. Just a really good friend he would call every morning, text every night, laugh with, go on vacations with.
Just a friend.
The whole squad knew you had feeling for him beyond a silly crush. You hadn't wanted to tell him. You were certain he didn't have the same feelings for you. If he did he would have already made a move by now. It had been years since you had met. So many coffee meet-up, trial victory dinners and late night movies.
You scowled as you asked the bartender for another one, not noticing someone eyeing you from across the bar.
Olivia, ever perceptive, noticed the turmoil in your eyes when you walked into the bar. She decided to give you some space but kept a watchful eye. As the night wore on and the three drink became six it became apparent that you weren't going to bounce back from this one easily. Olivia knew how much you cared for Barba. She knew the how upset you were. From the moment you had come back from the courthouse and left with you jacket without saying a word, Olivia knew something was wrong. A call from Rafael confirmed her suspicions. Lots of things were said, lots of unpleasant ones and Olivia listened as he pleaded her to check up on you.
Which led to her quietly approaching you.
"Mind if I join you?" she asked, her tone a careful mix of concern and warmth.
You looked up, offering a small, sad smile. "Hey, Liv. Yeah, sure."
The two of you settled into a quiet corner, away from the prying eyes and the buzzing conversations. Olivia, familiar with the unsaid language of pain, waited for you to open up.
"He wants to leave, Liv," you finally spoke, your voice barely above a whisper. "After everything that happened with the trial, he just wants to start fresh. I can't wrap my head around it, Liv. We fought, and I don't know what to do."
Olivia's eyes softened, understanding the weight of your words. "He's worried about you, you know?"
You rolled your eyes. "Of course he is," you said, sarcasm lacing your voice.
"Why haven't you told him?"
Your eyes went wide as you looked up. "Liv I can't."
"Why not?" Came the careful pry.
You felt something wet on your cheek and you touched it, realizing you were crying.
You were immediately engulfed by a caring warmth. Olivia held you, as the tears continued to flow freely down your face.
"Let's get out of here," she whispered into your ear as she called over the bartender to pay your tab
You nodded as you pulled away, as you tried to wipe your tears away. "No Liv let me pay-"
"No, I think you've gone through enough today." As she glanced down at the receipt she looked over at you and couldn't help but laugh as she passed you the bill.
You looked at it.
Holy shit. 200 bucks.
"Still want to pay?" She asked with a grin and you cracked, giggling as you shook your head.
Olivia finished paying and you tried to get up but immediately felt the weight of the drink your had.
This is why I don't get drunk.
Olivia helped you towards her car, laughing the whole way as you tried to walk in a straight line.
After a five minute struggle you managed to get into her car.
"Is it okay if we go to my place?" Olivia asked.
Feeling a sense of comfort in her offer, you agreed, allowing Olivia to guide you back to her apartment.
Inside, the apartment felt like a sanctuary. She made sure you were comfortable, offering a safe space for you to unload the burden you had been carrying.
"So why haven't you told him?"
You sighed and let out a deep breath. "I don't know Liv. He probably doesn't even feel the same way. We've been friends for years and he's never show any interest beyond our friendship."
Olivia nodded, the conversation beginning to sound awfully familiar. "You won't know unless you tell him. Would you really just let him leave without telling him?"
"I-I-I don't know. Maybe?" You tried, stuttering.
Olivia raised her eyebrows. "Seriously?"
You threw your hands up in defeat. "Liv come oooon! That's not fair."
Olivia shook her head, "It's not fair to either of you."
You were quiet.
After a while, sensing the need for a change of tone, Olivia suggested, "How about I cook us some dinner? A little distraction might do us good."
You managed a weak smile, appreciating the effort to get your mind off it.
-----------
As Olivia moved around the kitchen, getting everything on the stove, she felt her phone vibrate.
A text message.
'Is she okay?'- Rafa
Olivia wiped you hand on a towel as she peaked her head and saw you had picked a book off herself and had begun to read it. She sighed before texting Rafael back.
'Yes but you need to tell her!'
A minute passed before a reply came.
'I will.'- Rafa
She smiled as she looked up at you form on the couch, engrossed in the book, before getting back to dinner.
-------
As the smell of food filled your nose you began to lose interest in the book you had grabbed from Liv's bookshelf. You stood up and placed it back in its spot before walking to the window, looking out at the city below.
You sighed, rubbing your eyes. You knew you had acted childishly. You knew going to the bar wouldn't and hadn't solved any of your problems.
You knew you had to tell him.
You checked your phone, having putting it on silence after storming out of Rafael's office.
70 new text messages and 20 missed calls.
A new text appeared before you could open the others.
'I'm sorry for today. I hurt you and I need to see you. Let me make this right. Please let me see you.'- Raf <3
Your heart skipped a beat but before you could text back Olivia called out, "Dinner's ready."
As you sat down to eat, the taste of Olivia's homemade dinner mingled with the shared silence made you anxious. She glanced up as your leg bounced erratically under the table.
"Are you ok-"
"He asked to see me!" You blurted out.
Olivia tried to hide her smile as she nodded. "And?"
"I'm going to tell him." You said with determination.
Olivia took a drink from her wine. "That's great. I'm glad."
You smiled as you texted Rafael back as Olivia took another bite from her food, trying to keep her composure as she felt her phone go off.
'Thank you Liv. I owe you a million.'- Rafa
Olivia looked up grinning and you grinned back.
"See my food makes everything better!" She joked.
You laughed. "Thank you Liv. Honestly you're such a good friend."
"It's what I do," She said with a smile as she began to think how she would tell the squad tomorrow.

------------
Over the next few weeks turned months, you and Jake had developed a sort-of routine. Some nights you would be sleeping over in his guest bedroom while he was out late with the rest of the squad, and some nights you were out the door after making dinner for an exhausted pilot so you could help Penny at the bar and he could spend quality daddy-daughter time with Avery.
You had been working for Jake for around four months, Avery was already 8 months old, the holiday season was right around the corner and, unfortunately, that meant that there was no chance for you to be able to make it back home to see your girlfriend or her family. Jake wasn’t given any leave time for the holiday season to go back home, and he was fairly certain he was going to be on a boat in the middle of the Pacific for Christmas.
Jake rolled out of bed after checking the time, he laid in bed long enough to not be able to get coffee on his way into base and with a groan he wandered into the bathroom for a shower. He was hoping to be in and out before Avery started to wake up, but when he heard your faint voice over the sound of the shower, he knew he could afford a few extra minutes in the steam while you got Avery awake and fed.
He was expecting you to be standing in his kitchen, but what he wasn’t expecting was the twinge in his chest at the sight of you holding Avery and bouncing her softly as you work on smashing some avocado for her. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest as if you could see his heart racing, and he watches as you dance around the kitchen while Avery giggles away.
She’s the first of the two of you to spot him, you only notice from the shift of her weight as she stretches her little arms out towards Jake with a “Da-!” He laughs and pushes off from the wall and lifts her into the air before bringing her down and peppering her face and neck with kisses, causing her to giggle harder.
“Well, good morning sailor.” you tease as you scoop the avo into the silicone mat on her high chair. He laughs at your teasing and puts the little girl in her seat.
“Good morning.”
“There’s a coffee for you on the counter from that place that you took me to-”
“Clifford’s?”
“Yeah!”
“Saturn you are a godsend,” he practically moans as he takes a sip and you roll your eyes at his antics. “I’m serious. Thank you so much. I didn’t think I would have time to go on my way into base.”
You watch him take alternating sips between his coffee and feeding Avery. You take in his still shower damp hair and how his white undershirt is tucked into his dress khakis even though the second he gets onto base he’s going to be changing into his flight suit.
“Yeah I left Penny’s early today, couldn’t sleep so I made the extra drive to the coffee house.”
“Well, I appreciate it. There’s some cash in my wallet you can take-”
“Oh no,” you wave him off as you turn to the sink to get started on the few dishes you had dirtied. “Don’t worry about it. I don’t mind treating my favorite boss to coffee here and there.”
“Favorite boss? I’m your only boss.” he says and you throw him a look.
“You’re not my only boss, dad-man. Now go get your bag, you're going to be late.”
“Yes ma’am.” he gives you a mock salute and you roll your eyes as you take over his spot feeding Avery. He has a foot out the door when he doubles back, “are you going to be out the door as soon as I get home later or can you stay for a bit for a chat?”
“I can stay, is everything okay?”
“Okay cool. I’ll see you later, Sat!”
A few hours have passed since Jake left this morning and Avery is getting restless, she’s just starting to stand and you can tell she’s itching to start running. It was perfect timing as you also had received a text from your other boss. You pack a small bag for her, some snacks and a few diapers, before grabbing the space themed fanny pack Jake had gotten you for your birthday in October. “Let’s go see if we can surprise daddy while we make a pit stop for the admiral.”
Jake is confused when he hears your voice followed by Avery’s giggles and babbles echoing throughout the halls of Top Gun. When he finally finds the two of you, Avery lights up, just like she had that morning too.
“Hey… what are you two doing here?” he asks as he takes Avery from you and you hold out a bag to him.
“Figured I would bring you some lunch. Plus I have a meeting with Beau.”
“Beau? Simpson?” he lets out a small laugh and looks at you as if you grew extra limbs. “How… Why do you have a meeting with Cyclone?”
“Because, Lieutenant Seresin, I asked her to come here.” Cyclone says as he walks up to the two of you.
“Sir I-”
“This must be Avery.” Cyclone says smiling down at the little girl in Jake’s arms before shaking her little hand, “it is very nice to meet you again.”
Avery smiles and babbles back to him and reaches for the usually stone faced admiral and with a smile he takes her into his arms, not bothered when she starts to poke and pull at all the ribbons on his dress shirt. Jake is shocked, mouth hanging open a little and you just smile knowing that Cyclone is nothing like the admiral that Jake knows.
“Why don’t you and the rest of the Dagger’s take a long lunch.” Cyclone says and from his tone Jake knows it’s not a suggestion and Jake takes Avery’s diaper bag and the bag of food from you before leaving with a “Sir.”
You followed Cyclone back to his office and took a seat across from him. “How’s Addison doing?”
“She’s good, excited to start kindergarten and she loves having a baby sister.” he says with a smile and you laugh before pulling out your tablet from its case..
“So, I was working on a curriculum for her…” you start and go over the program you drafted for him and his wife to go over with their eldest daughter.
By the time you and Cyclone walk into the room that the rest of the Dagger’s have taken up residence in, the admiral is reduced to a fit of laughter as he regales you with the story of what his daughter did a few weeks ago. The rest of the squad is wide eyed at their laughing admiral, but Jake is the only one who has already seen the man with his usual grimace.
Cyclone gives a smile to the rest of the Dagger’s before squeezing your shoulder gently as he leaves back to his office.
“So, you’re a nanny, a bartender, a teacher, and you can make the admiral laugh? Man, Jake bagged a good one.” an aviator says and you give him a weird look.
“Excuse me?”
“Harvard, shut the fuck up.” Bradley says and this Harvard character you just met laughs.
“Well, on that note… Jake, Avery and I will see you later?” you say and Jake nods before passing Avery back to you.
“I might be a little late, but I can pick something up for dinner?” he asks and you nod with a smile.
“Of course, dealer’s choice.” you say with a smile before heading out. You make a quick pit stop at Target for some new clothes for Avery since she’s already starting to outgrow some of the clothes that she had. You pick up a few things for yourself before grabbing Jake some new undershirts since they’ve started to disappear.
By the time you make it back to Jake’s, you have a few hours before he’s supposed to be home. Avery goes down easy for a nap, groceries are put away, his new shirts and the rest of his laundry is in the washer.
The second you pop open a red bull your phone is ringing, the picture of you and your girlfriend when she surprised you with a trip down the Vermont Byways last fall during peak color season.
“Hey Ry.. Perfect timing.” you say with a smile and she laughs on the other end of the line.
“Yeah? The baby down?”
“Yeah, she just fell asleep and then Jake isn’t due home for another few hours yet.” you take a sip of your drink.
“Well that’s good news! How’s the other job going?” she asks and you let out a sigh.
“It’s good. I have a few parents I’m writing programs and curriculums for but other than that, I’m spending most of my time with Avery.”
“You know… you can always come home. Do the exact same thing here with our family and friends.” she presses and you can hear it in her voice that she’s hating the distance.
“Ryanne… you know that I can’t, I outgrew Vermont. I’m happy in San Diego, but I do miss you. A lot.” you say and she sighs.
“Are you at least coming back for Christmas? Mom and dad have been asking about you. They think we’ve broken up.” she tells you and you bite your lip before sighing.
“I’m sorry. I wish that I could get back but I can’t. Jake thinks that he might be getting deployed right around that time but he isn’t sure. So I’m going to stay here on the chance he does.” you tell her and you can almost hear her roll her eyes. “Why don’t you come here? Spend Christmas under the sun?”
“Does he think or does he know that gets getting deployed?” she bites out and then sighs, “I’ll see what I can do. I make no promises though with the weather.” she tells you and you nod even though she can’t see you.
“Well, either way I’m sorry I can’t make it home and I do love you a lot and I miss you so much.”
“I miss you too.” she says before hanging up and you sigh, tossing your phone on the table in front of you before kicking your feet up and digging the heels of your palms into your eyes and you will yourself to not start crying.
Jake ends up getting out earlier than he expected so he stops by your favorite Chinese place on the way home before stopping and grabbing your favorite beer to try and butter you up, so when he walked into the house and heard your gentle sobs coming from the couch, he stops mid-sentence and rushes over.
“Hey! So I grabbed Chinese from that place you like and I was thinking-hey what’s wrong?” he sets the bags down on the table in front of you and pulls you against him.
“Just,” you sniff and rest your head on his shoulder, “stupid stuff. Ryanne called me today… and I thought that it was going to be an I miss you, how have you been’ conversation but instead it was a ‘when are you coming home? Why are you watching this guy's baby over his parents?’ conversation.”
“I’m sorry.. I can call my mom-” he starts and you cut him off.
“No Jake. You don’t have to do that. I want to be here with you and Avery. I left Vermont because I felt like there was nothing there for me anymore. Just because I can’t leave, doesn’t mean she can’t either.. And she hasn’t really made an effort to even try and come out here either.”
“I can talk to Cyclone. See if he can give me a week off or something so you can go back or-or bring Ryanne out here? Spend a week with her here in the sunshine.” he tries again and you look over at him, eyes glassy and red-rimmed and he wants nothing more than to just tug you into his lap and hold you close and kiss every single tear away but he knows that he can’t.
You sit up and pull away from him, downing the rest of your redbull and slapping a hand down on his leg, “so... my favorite food?” you pump into his shoulder and he laughs.
“Yes, only the best for my favorite nanny.”
“Favorite? I’m your only nanny!” you laugh as you stand and grab the bags before heading to the kitchen to plate the food. “Do you want to go grab Av? She should be waking up any moment and I’m sure she would rather see your face than mine.”
Almost on cue, Avery starts stirring over the baby monitor that was placed on the counter. You can hear Jake talking to Avery briefly before he disappears from the vicinity of the monitor in her room, you figure he headed to his room to change. By the time he’s back downstairs, he’s changed into an old Texas Longhorns shirt and sweatpants and Avery is as smiley as ever with her little bit of bed head sticking up on the side.
You can feel your eyes lingering for longer than needed, but seeing Jake with his daughter always made your heart soar.
Fatherhood suited him.
You set the plates on the table, even giving a few noodles to Avery on her mat when Jake gets her settled in the highchair. “You said that you wanted to talk about something, before you left this morning?”
“Yeah uh.. I wanted to ask if you wanted to move in with me?” he says, almost tentatively. “I know that you’re settled at Penny’s but with the impending leave in the next few weeks and the fact that you’re always here early in the morning and usually late at night.. I just figured it would be easier for you? Less commute time and Avery gets pretty upset when you leave at night.”
“Avery gets upset or you do?” you tease and you swear you see him flush a bit as he shovels sesame chicken into his mouth.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t talk with your mouth full you pig. You’re teaching Avery bad habits.” you pause for a bit, pushing some food around your plate as you watch Avery taste the noodles you had given her and her eyes go wide and you both laugh.
“I’ll move in with you.”

stare decisis: chapter one - novus
novus: latin for new
masterlist
wc: 1,043
rafael barba x original female character
Quinn Brady glances at the name she had scribbled on a bright pink sticky note, Rafael Barba, she confirms that it matches the name on the door before walking up to the desk of his assistant. She's a beautiful woman, Quinn can tell she's tall before she even stands up.
"Hey, good morning. My name is Quinn Brady. Mr. McCoy sent me," the woman nods knowingly.
"I'll let Mr. Barba know you're here," she disappears through the double doors of the office briefly before coming back out. "You can go on in," she smiled. Quinn thanks the woman and then enters the office.
"Mr. Barba, I'm Quinn Brady, the DA just pulled me over from Queens," she holds her hand out for a shake, his large warm hand covers her pale cold one with a firm grasp. He's intimidating, she notices, arrogant too.
She's attractive, he can't deny that. Slender, only a few inches shorter than him, with freckles covering her cheeks and nose, and ginger hair that compliments those freckles so nicely. Shamefully he admits to himself that having a woman sitting with him at counsel table during trial will also help with the jury, probably the DA's exact thought.
"The DA told me you were coming over, what department were you in?"
"Gangs," she smirks as she places a hand on her hip. Her petite stature always allowed her to be underestimated, especially when it came to prosecuting gang-related crimes.
"Well you've certainly made some enemies then," he smirks, he has too.
"Definitely, I'm sure you've done the same. You have quite the reputation," his phone vibrates in his hand and he tears his eyes from hers to glance at it.
"Well, welcome to SVU. The squad just caught a case, so we can go over the precinct and I can introduce you to them," he grabs his coat from the coat hanger by the door. He passes right in front of Quinn, and the warm embrace of his evergreen cologne wafts through her senses. "I need to warn you about them, they're passionate, and don't understand what we go through as ADAs."
"Oh, have you ever met a cop who does?" She quips, and a light flashes through his eyes. Maybe he's met his match. They share a cab, on the DA's office's dime. It's close quarters for newly acquainted coworkers but they make it work. She’s first to break the silence.
"So where did you go to law school," Quinn looks over, his nonverbal markers tell her everything she needs to know. He's an Ivy League guy.
"Harvard, you?"
"Georgetown."
"Did you stay in D.C. after graduation?” He knows most people do, so in his mind it’s a stupid question.
“For a few years, I bounced around for a while until I ended up in New York,” she watches closely as the yellow cab pulls up to the 16th precinct, the large building home of New York City’s elite squad of detectives.
“Well, let’s go see what they have for us,” they make their way up the exterior stairs and then up the elevator to the squad room.
A short blonde woman is waiting at the elevator doors when they open, she doesn’t give Quinn a second glance, her eyes are only set on Barba.
“We need a warrant.”
“For what? For who? Why? I don’t care what you think you need, I care about what you have,” Rafael grunts and storms past the detective; Quinn follows on his heels. She’s unintentionally led right into the middle of the squad, four other people are gathered around a few desks, talking about the evidence they think they could obtain.
“Barba, great, we need a warrant,” an older brunette woman.
“Yeah, that’s what Rollins said, but why do you think you need a warrant?”
“Josh Casey consulted some telephone attorney based on his cell records. But if it was only a consultation then he’s not a client and attorney-client privilege doesn’t apply. So we need the attorney’s records from their consultation,” a lanky, blond but graying, man says animatedly. Quinn takes in the room, they still haven’t noticed her. Just as Barba opens his mouth to respond Quinn butts in instead.
“Those records are more than likely protected by work product, so you’re not going to get those.”
“Who are you?” a Hispanic man with dark hair asks.
“Quinn Brady, your new ADA,” she studies the looks of shock between her and Barba. Maybe that wasn’t the best way to say that she was joining the team.
“What the hell, you’re leaving?” the brunette woman asks Barba.
“No, he’s not leaving, there’s two of us now. DA’s orders,” Quinn answers for him.
“Brady, this is Sergeant Olivia Benson, Detectives Amanda Rollins, Fin Tutola, Nick Amarao, and Dominic Carisi,” Barba points to everyone as he says their name.
“You can call me Sonny,” Carisi blurts as soon as Barba says his name. Quinn looks at the man’s outstretched hand but ignores it.
“Yeah, right. And even if it is not all protected by work product, whatever attorney Casey winds up with next would probably instruct him to say he thought the phone attorney was his actual attorney. So then it’s protected by attorney-client privilege.”
“AKA, we’re not getting you a warrant. But thanks for the time for introductions. Call us when you actually have something,” Barba smirks while Quinn pulls out a pen and a bright pink sticky notepad from her coat pocket. She jots down her cell and office numbers on it and hands it to Liv.
“My cell is the best way for you to contact me, but I’m also right across from his office,” she motions to Barba as she hands it over. Liv holds up the sticky note and thanks her for it. Barba and Quinn leave the precinct together leaving the squad stunned hi her wake.
“Not only did he just meet his match, but I think we’ve met ours,” Liv says as they walk away.
“Yeah well I think I’m going to marry her,” Sonny smiles.
“And when she finds out you’re in law school and were still pushing for that warrant?” Rollins asks.
“Yeah well I guess that’s not a good look is it?”

Land Bugs: Bugs Not In Space
More @heroesspirit bug fics bc I cannot be contained
Summary: Cori and Agitha lead the second official meeting of the Bug Squad.
Fluff, 1.4k. So many thank yous to @wildsage00 for beta reading <3
“Welcome to the second official meeting of the Bug Squad!” Agitha said as she twirled in a circle and threw her arms in the air. Cori bounced a little where he was kneeling and clapped his hands together. Wayra squawked loudly and Sky laughed with him. Sailor scooted closer to Twilight, farther from Wayra, though he still had a smile on his face.
“Roll call,” Cori said. He picked up his notebook and pencil and turned to a specific page.
“Co-leaders Cori and Agitha, here,” Cori said.
“Heeeere!” Agitha sang.
Cori turned to Twilight and stared expectantly.
“Oh, uh, Twilight. Here,” Twilight said.
Wayra squawked, evidently deciding it was his turn. Sky laughed again and put a hand on his neck to calm him.
“Wayra and Sky, here!” Sky said.
“Sailor, here,” Sailor said.
“And that’s everyone!” Cori said, pencil scratching in his notebook.
“Where’s the other one? Wild?” Agitha asked. Twilight’s eyes widened and he immediately made a stop motion with his hands. Agitha didn’t notice.
Cori’s gaze darkened. “He is not allowed in the Bug Squad.”
“Why?” Agitha asked.
“He tried to eat a stag beetle!” Cori exclaimed. Agitha gasped and put an affronted hand on her chest.
“What?” Agitha yelled.
“He will never be forgiven,” Cori said.
Sky, Sailor, and Twilight made awkward eye contact while Cori and Agitha stared at their bug collections with ire. Sky cleared his throat.
“So… bugs?” Sky said hesitantly.
Cori brightened and bounced again. “Yes! Bugs. Very important. Does anyone have any new bugs to share?”
“Oh! I do!” Sky said. He excitedly rummaged through his bag until he pulled out a beetle and displayed it for the group. “I found this one on a tree. Caught it with my bug net.”
Cori and Agitha both gasped and leaned forward reverently.
“A western Hercules beetle!” Cori said excitedly. He glanced at Agitha with a wide grin then back to the beetle.
“Oh, oh, oh boy! What a li’l cutie!” Agitha said. “Li’l beetle, li’l beetle, li’l beetle!”
Cori cupped his hands in front of Sky’s so the beetle could crawl onto his palm. After a bit of investigation, it did. The beetle was big enough to cover his palm from one side to the other. Cori giggled as its legs tickled his skin. He carefully twisted so he was holding the bug up between himself and Agitha.
“ Dynastes grantii !” Cori said. The others crowded around to get a look at the beetle and Wayra peeked his head over the group.
“Nice horns,” Twilight said.
It took all of Cori’s willpower not to bounce with excitement. He didn’t want to scare the bug. Instead, he hummed to release his happy energy.
“It has cool spots on its wings,” Sailor said.
“Not wings,” Agitha corrected. “Elytra.”
“Which is…?” Sky asked.
“Hardened forewing. It protects the wings,” Cori explained. “The spots are cool! They’re different on every beetle. Did you know, in places that are really warm or humid, they’ll have so many spots that they look black?”
“I did know that!” Agitha said excitedly.
“I didn’t,” Twilight said with a grin.
Sky sneezed. The beetle quickly opened its elytra and extended its wings to fly away. Cori watched it fly into Agitha’s tree with wonder.
“Oops,” Sky muttered apologetically.
“It’s ok,” Cori said.
“Who else has a new bug?” Agitha asked.
“I brought one!” Sailor dug around in his pouch until he produced a small creature Cori didn’t recognize. “Ta da!”
Everyone leaned in. Wayra squawked.
“I don’t recognize that one,” Cori said with a frown. “Are you sure it’s an insect?"
“I dunno.” Sailor shrugged. “It looks like a tiny lobster. It could be a bug.”
“That’s a crawdad, not a lobster,” Twilight said.
“What? No it’s not. That’s a crayfish,” Sky said.
“Fish? So, not a bug?” Agitha asked.
Cori frowned and huffed out an irritated breath. Why would Sailor bring a fish to bug squad? Although, Cori thought as he leaned in for a closer look, it didn’t look much like any fish he had ever seen. He didn’t pay much attention to fish. They weren’t bugs.
“No, not a bug. Sorry,” Twilight said to Cori and Agitha. Agitha hmphed and crossed her arms. Cori frowned and leaned back on his heels. He was ready to go back to the bugs.
“But not a fish either,” Twilight continued.
“I know it’s not a fish, that’s just what we call it,” Sky said.
“Why would you call it a fish if it’s not a fish?” Twilight asked.
“That’s just what it’s called!”
“That is not what it’s called! It’s a crawdad!”
“Um,” Cori muttered.
“Why would it be called a crawdad?” Sky asked, voice dripping with disgust.
“Why would it be called a crayfish ? It’s not a fish!” Twilight argued.
“Guys?” Sailor asked.
“It’s not a dad either—” Sky said.
“You don’t know that,” Twilight replied with a scowl.
“—or a craw , whatever that is.”
“How is that different from cray?”
“It’s clearly— ”
Wayra screeched loudly in Twilight’s direction, flapping his wings and shaking his head. Cori slammed his hands over his ears and scrunched his eyes shut. The bird was far too loud.
He could hear Sky saying something, but couldn’t make out any of the words. There was a light tap on his knee, and Cori cautiously opened one eye. Sky was smiling apologetically at him and Wayra had moved farther away from the group.
“Sorry. He won’t do that again,” Sky said; Cori read his lips.
Cori carefully lowered his hands from his ears and glanced at Wayra. His head was hanging low and he looked apologetic, as much as a giant bird could. Cori glanced at the others and noticed Sailor pressed against Twilight’s side, face pale.
Hm. Cori could fix that.
“Let’s go back to insects, please,” Cori said.
“Agreed, agreed, agreed,” Agitha said. “Yes please.”
“I have to disqualify the– that,” Cori pointed at Sailor’s creature, “from bug squad. Sorry.”
Sailor shrugged and put the creature in his pouch. “Yeah, that’s fine.”
Cori looked around Agitha’s room for a suitably cool bug to bring to the group next. He saw a mantis perched on a branch and jumped up to get it. He carefully nudged it onto his hand, then went to kneel beside Sailor.
“Here.” Cori nudged Sailor’s arm until he held his hands out, then pushed the mantis gently into his palms.
“Li’l mantis, li’l mantis, li’l mantis!” Agitha cheered. Her hands flew to her cheeks as she grinned and appreciated the bug.
“This is a mantis. I think it’s in the Paramantis family, but they can be hard to distinguish,” Cori explained.
“Cool,” Sailor said. His smile was back and he wasn’t leaning so heavily against Twilight. Twilight met Cori’s eyes and grinned. Cori looked back at the mantis and smiled.
“Did you know praying mantises can turn their head 180 degrees?” Cori asked.
“Woah,” Sailor said.
“Mantises are the only insects in the world that can do that,” Cori continued excitedly. “It helps them when they’re hunting their prey.”
“What do they eat?” Twilight asked.
“Soft-bodied insects,” Cori answered immediately. Twilight nodded, impressed. Cori grinned widely.
The mantis jumped off Sailor’s hands and scuttled away.
“Did anyone else bring a bug?” Agitha asked. Everyone shook their heads.
“We could go catch some?” Sky suggested. He pulled a giant net out of his bag with a conspiratorial grin. Cori leapt to his feet, eyes wide.
“Yes. Now,” Cori said.
“Ok,” Sky agreed with a laugh. “Where’s the best spot to catch bugs around here?”
“South Hyrule Field is closest,” Twilight said. “There’s plenty there.”
“Let’s go!” Cori grabbed Twilight’s hand and dragged him to the door.
“Ok, ok, I’m going,” Twilight said with a laugh.
“Not fast enough!” Agitha exclaimed.
“Oh yeah?” Twilight barked out a laugh and stopped in his tracks. Cori’s tug on his arm did nothing. Agitha put both hands on his back and pushed as hard as she could, feet sliding against the floor.
“You’re too heavy!” Agitha complained. Sky and Twilight both laughed and Wayra bounced around the group.
Sailor leapt onto Twilight’s back and pinched his ear, tugging it towards the door. “Onward, lowly steed!”
“Ah, ow, okay, fine!” Twilight laughed and let himself be pulled to the door.
Cori threw it open and bounded into the streets. He couldn’t contain his excitement. With Sky’s massive net, there was no telling how many bugs they would catch!

Brazil President Proposes Exclusion of Vinicius, Rodrygo And Others from Brazil's Squad
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has made a bold suggestion that could reshape the future of the Selecao.
Following Brazil's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign against Chile, Lula da Silva proposed that only players competing in Brazil’s domestic league should be selected for the national team.
This idea follows the Selecao's recovery from a disappointing loss to Paraguay in the World Cup qualifiers last month.
Brazil bounced back with a vital win over Chile despite conceding an early goal.

Formula E: Cassidy secures victory in second Berlin round
Formula E: Cassidy secures victory in second Berlin round By Balazs Szabo on 23 Apr 2023, 15:00 Nick Cassidy took his first win in the current Formula E season in this weekend’s second Berlin E-Prix, beating Jake Dennis by only four tenths of a second. F1Technical’s Balázs Szabó reports on the Sunday Berlin race of the 2022/2023 FIA Formula E World Championship from the Tempelhof paddock. Following the sunny weather yesterday, cold and rainy conditions welcomed the 22-driver field on the second day of running at the temporary Tempelhof venue in Berlin. As a result of the wet conditions, the pecking order from Day 1 has been completely changed for today with yesterday’s two fastest teams – Jaguar and Maserati – losing their competitiveness. Instead, it was the ABT Formula E team which took a shock front-row lockout with Robin Frijns taking pole from team-mate Nico Mueller. The start of the second Berlin E-Prix was not straightforward though as protesters gained access to the track by climbing up the catching fences just before the start. As the protesters sat down on the circuit, the start procedure was aborted and Race Director Scot Elkins briefly sent out marshals to the track to examine the track surface. When the race could be started, pole-sitter Frijns could hang on to his starting position to lead his team mate Nico Mueller into the first corner. Envision Virgin racer Sebastien Buemi occupied P3 with Jean-Eric Vergne, Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein following the Swiss driver. Just like yesterday, drivers started to use their attack mode quite early on in the race as it proved beneficial yesterday on the temporary Tempelhof circuit where energy management is usually not easy to master. In the first phase of the race, drivers constantly changed the top positions as no one wanted to lead and lose the benefit of a tow which has proved very powerful and beneficial in terms of energy management so far this season. The two Porsche drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein managed to climb up the order and seemed to have the upper hand over the rivals. However, as soon as they hit the front, their competitors were able to react with Vergne taking over the lead on Lap 20. After starting from eighth on the grid, Cassidy slowly moved up the order and hit the front of the field at Turn 6 with 16 laps to go. Following his costly mistake yesterday, Dennis shadowed Cassidy for the last part of the race with one per cent more energy than the Kiwi. With only three laps left on the board, fourth-places Evans made a mistake which allowed Cassidy, Dennis and Vergne to escape into the distance. However, the Evans-led group closed in on the leading trio once again. Despite his power advantage, Dennis never looked likely to make a move, and Cassidy was able to secure his first Formula E race win of the season in Berlin. Dennis and Vergne completed the podium with yesterday’s race winner Mitch Evans following in P4. Despite their promising mid-race pace, Porsche driver Felix da Costa only managed a fifth place in front of local hero Maximilian Guenther, who showed a remarkable performance to bounce back from his low-key qualifying result. Championship leader Wehrlein appeared to be in contention for the win at the mid-point of the E-Prix, but dropped back to seventh with reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne securing P8. Abt Cupra racer Nico Mueller was not able to convert his second starting position to a podium place, and had to settle for P9 with Neo 333 driver Dan Ticktum completing the top ten. The difficult double-header for Wehrlein left him on top of the pile but by a narrow four-point margin to Cassidy, with Vergne third. Following their troublesome Saturday round, TAG Heuer Porsche's advantage in the Teams' table also continued to evaporate on Sunday, with the Jaguar-powered Envision Racing squad now just 15 points back in second. via F1Technical.net . India vs Bangladesh T20 Series: Records Were Meant to Be Broken!
The India vs Bangladesh T20 rivalry has always kept cricket fans on the edge of their seats! But this time, things went to a whole new level. The recent series was absolutely epic, with Sanju Samson leading the way in smashing records for Indian cricket.
India’s T20 Dominance 🔥
India has been a beast in T20 International cricket, blending experienced legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli with rising stars like Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson. In their recent series against Bangladesh, India didn’t just win—they crushed it, setting one of the highest T20I team scores ever!
Ranked among the top teams in the ICC T20 rankings, India’s performance against Bangladesh shows why they’re a powerhouse in world cricket. They batted like there was no tomorrow, with Samson playing a key role in achieving India’s highest-ever T20I total. 🏏💥
Want more details? Check out this article for a deep dive into India's T20 journey!
Sanju Samson’s Explosive Knock 💣
One of the major highlights of this series? Sanju Samson! He finally lived up to his massive potential by smashing a century in just 40 balls—making it the second-fastest by an Indian in T20 Internationals. His innings was filled with non-stop boundaries and towering sixes. 🙌
Thanks to him, India posted a jaw-dropping total of 297/6, which is now the second-highest team total in T20 International history!
Curious about Sanju Samson? Read his full profile here.
The Biggest T20 Scores
India’s 297/6 against Bangladesh is a monster total, and it’s now the highest score ever made by a full-member nation in T20 Internationals. Not far from the world record held by Nepal (314/3 against Mongolia), India’s score shows their unbeatable batting depth.
Other crazy-high T20 scores include:
Nepal 314/3 vs Mongolia (Asian Games 2023)
Australia 263/3 vs Sri Lanka (Pallekele 2016)
England 241/3 vs New Zealand (Napier 2019)

Bangladesh’s Struggles 😓
While Bangladesh has shown flashes of brilliance in T20 cricket, they’ve struggled to consistently challenge teams like India. Despite good performances from Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh couldn’t put together a team effort strong enough to tackle India’s dominance.
Their bowling lineup, featuring Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, couldn’t hold off India’s aggressive batting, leaving Bangladesh with a lot to work on before their next big encounter.
Check out Bangladesh’s full T20 journey here.
What’s Next for This Rivalry?
The India vs Bangladesh T20 rivalry just keeps heating up. With India dominating this series, Bangladesh will be eager to bounce back in future matches. They’ve got a young and talented squad, so who knows what’s in store?
For India, it’s clear they’re still one of the top teams in the world. With a talent pool this deep, and Sanju Samson now stepping up, India is a team that no one can take lightly!

You Never Knew?
Warnings: language, slight annoyance? Fills the “Fade into You” by Mazzy Star Square on thatesqcrush‘s Vday bingo. I won’t lie…this was the one that stumped me the most. I finally just said f it and picked out a couple of lines, then it took another week to try and figure out wtf I was going to do with it, then halfway through writing it I changed my mind but kept the same original plot/story opener so…bear with me… Technically Sonny x Fem!Reader?
**
Being one of the Senior A.D.A’s for sex crimes in Manhattan, you thought you’d actually get to see the inside of a courtroom once in a while, but apparently that wasn’t as true as you’d thought. Transferring in from Queens you were thankful to get to work alongside Rafael Barba for a few cases, he had a wonderful reputation, and actually respected you and your opinions. Even when you were working separate cases he often bounced ideas off you before taking them to trial. You were the next in command and the office knew it, you were well educated, and had been doing the job for years now, even if you were relatively new to the borough.
When shit hit the fan with Barba you were sad to see him resign, but wished him all the best, he gave you the best of kind words that he could, knowing that at least Manhattan SVU was left in good hands. That was of course until McCoy had convinced Peter Stone to stay on. You were immediately bypassed for any promotion, Chicago’s golden boy slipping into the office that should have been yours. It was a rocky year and a half that he was there, the squad was unwelcoming to him (all things considered, not surprising) and he stayed so sheltered up in his big office you rarely heard from him. You started taking on homicide and white collar cases just to stay busy as he sucked in more than he could handle. It drove you insane, but you knew he wouldn’t be able to keep it up.
Sure enough, he resigned just over a year after he started. Once again, you sat down with the bureau chief and McCoy, gently reminding them that you’d been with Manhattan sex crimes for four years, and Queens for another four before that. You’d been picking up cases as much as you could and you were damn good at what you did, your close rate sitting at a whopping 76%. Finally, you were moved up a couple of floors to take over the office previously held by the two men, as if the painstakingly hard work over the last eight years was finally paying off.
It lasted roughly two months before Sonny Carisi got hired on at the DA’s office. You knew he passed the bar roughly three years ago, and his goal had to become a lawyer all along so you weren’t surprised. You were even at his going away/welcome party at Beekman with the rest of the squad and DA’s office. While he was friendly, and you could admit, had a bit of a charming side to him, he was just a new coworker to you and you were ready to get back to work, finally being the senior A.D.A for the department.
Or so you thought. You knew Carisi had the years experience working as a cop in sex crimes, but the fact that he was a brand new first year A.D.A and was getting literally every call from their squad, was starting to piss you off. Even on nights when there were suddenly four cases at once, your phone didn’t ring, you simply heard him complaining about being overworked the next day in the break room. Occasionally he’d pop into your office, asking questions about how things should or would play out, you’d give him the best advice you could, and remind him that you could take any extra weight off his shoulders, remind him that if he needed to take a bit of a break and sit second chair he was more than welcome to hand a case over.
But he was stubborn as they came and the ratio of cases continued to be one to five. And when you did show up at the 16th, you were greeted with eye rolls and sighs. It was as if they’d forgotten that you’d been there three years longer than Sonny, or that they’d forgotten that a woman could even do this job, considering there were at least eight long standing female A.D.A’s you hoped it wasn’t that. You still did your job, you kept your win rate up, and you did what you needed to do to throw the bastards into jail, even if it seemed like no one appreciated it.
Sonny would show up at your office with questions, seeking your advice more and more as the time went on. You were surprised when he seemed to get more nervous with each visit rather than more comfortable, you thought the new position would feel comfortable by now, but who knew what was going on in that head of is. Eventually, he started to pass some cases off to you while he was swamped, (despite the fact that it should’ve been going the opposite way, but, at this point as long as you hand something to do that wasn’t paperwork, you didn’t really give a shit).
When you’d shown up to the 16th to take a case and even Olivia rolled her eyes you couldn’t take it anymore, snapping at her in remembrance of how there was more than just Carisi to help the squad work. Naturally your bosses heard about it and finally there was more of a leeway when it came to evenly spreading out the cases, and you were to take the ones they felt needed to be handled by a senior attorney.
Carisi ended up in your office more often than not know that things were nearly being forced to be open, you held it to be the memory of when it had been Barba’s office. You thought he might be pissy about the situation but he kept his head down and did his work, surprising you ever so often with a coffee or danish. Once there was even a Tupperware of homemade cannolis after you’d lost a particularly gruelling case. You thought this meant he was warming up, but he still rarely talked to you unless he needed an opinion, and the day you figured you’d return the favour of a coffee and a danish he barely looked at you and fumbled over his words.
Your interactions basically continued like this through the new year, winter took over the city and you took to adding a portable heater to your office to combat the cold while you worked later hours than normal. Friday night rolled around, you were still in your office, perched working through questioning and opening arguments when there was a knock at the door.
“Yeah?” You called, glancing up when you caught movement out of the corner of your eye, “Carisi, what’d’you need?”
“I-uh…I’m glad I caught ya…” .
“This about the Gallagher case?” You cocked a brow, “Calhoun can be a lot to deal with but she’s a friend, I can talk to her if you want?” Turning back to your work you watched out of the corner of your eye as he rung his hands.
“You’re..not mad I got the case instead of you?” Sighing, you dropped your forearms onto the desk, turning your attention to him.
“Gallagher’s a prick. Female defence, female judge, female Captain? Throw a female A.D.A in there and he’d be claiming there was some kind of sexist conspiracy going on to incriminate him further.” He nodded and you picked your pen back up, “and honestly I’d rather not deal with the whole situation. So, what did you need?”
Sonny felt his heart start to pick up more than it had before he’d even knocked on your office door. He wasn’t here to talk about the case, hell, half the times he showed up at your office he wasn’t actually there to talk about a case. He’d felt bad when he’d first started in the office, knowing that you had a hell of a lot of seniority on him yet all the attention was on him instead. He was genuinely surprised when you didn’t take it out on him, rather going to through the appropriate channels (minus the one blow up with Benson, but hey, you all had your moments). He thought he’d been getting somewhere recently, and decided to ball up and do it.
“Did you wanna drink?” He managed out. You paused in your work, your brows furrowed and lips pursed as you slowly lifted your head to fully take him in.
“There’s scotch in that cupboard,” you gestured with your pen, “but you don’t strike me as a scotch guy, even with the law degree.” His eyes glanced to where you’d pointed but he didn’t move, “listen, don’t you have cop friends you can go bitch about work with over a beer?”
“Oh..uh..I meant would ya want to go get a drink…with me?”
“Like to shoot the shit about work or are you asking me out?”
“I guess I’m askin’ you out.” He finally got his footing, shooting you a grin as his confidence returned, “kinda thought you felt the same after all the coffee exchanges.”
“Oh…sweetheart.” You half grimaced with laugh nearly taking over your cheeks, “I look at you and I see nothing.” He winced slightly at your words and before you could explain he spoke again.
“But…didn’t ya leave a Valentines card with that breakfast this morning?”
“No…” your brow furrowed, “I dropped you a coffee that was it.” He frowned, his glance turned down as your words sunk in, wondering how he could have misread things.
“Nothing…really?” He risked a glance back up at you and you jumped in your seat.
“Hold on! Sonny, it’s not what you think.” You noticed the way he suddenly unfroze at the use of his first name, “I uh…I don’t date men…”
“Really?”
“It’s office wide knowledge, I think it’s strange you never knew…”
“Oh..” he pondered over it for a minute, “Uh…sorry, I guess. I didn’t mean to offend or anythin’.”
“You didn’t.” You smiled, “you’re wrapped up for the day?”
“Uh, yeah why?”
“Cause I think I have a feeling I know who left you that present.” You flipped your file closed, starting to gather your things, “so let’s go have a drink as friends and talk about how to flirt with pretty girls.”
“Really?” His head tilted and you playfully rolled your eyes, he was adorable, in a puppy like way.
“Yeah,” you clapped at his arm, “but you’re payin since you technically asked me out.”
“Sure thing.” He laughed.
You were thankful that somehow, a potentially very awkward Valentines drink opened everything up and cleared the air between the two of you. Sonny started standing up for you more when it came to the squad, and you were able to finally work freely together without any hesitation or weirdness.
You were particularly happy when he came bounding into your office ecstatic that Alice had said yes to a first date but now needed your help coming up with a million and a half ideas of what to do. You laughed, asking if you could meet him for a drink after work to talk it over, gesturing to your girlfriend that you were in the middle of something. His eyes darted between the two of you, the case files, plea agreement and takeout on the table and he began to apologize profusely, saying he’d meet you downstairs at the end of the day leaving the two of you in a small fit of laughter.
It was one way to start a friendship, that was for sure.

12 Days of Whumpmas - Day 12
Fandom/universe: Generic Whumpee
Warnings: homeless whumpee, hypothermia, mild frostbite
Notes: Continued from Day 7! This one is dedicated to the “save da baby” squad…y’all know who you are. 😉 Also thank you to @sweetwhumpandhellacomf for the initial idea for this.
.
.
It’s been a good Christmas morning so far. The kids had woken them up at the first sign of daylight, bouncing up and down on the bed until they were forced to get up and follow them downstairs to see what Santa brought. After tearing through stockings and a breakfast of cinnamon rolls, Teammate gets a sudden whim to go for a walk. The kids are all hyped about the snow that fell during the night, might as well get out and see it before the cars and pedestrians mess it up.
They’re all bundled up in coats and hats and scarves and gloves and boots, noses turning red in the frigid air and steam puffing from their lips, but everyone is smiling. Someone suggests they walk a block over to the park to see what the city tree looks like in the snow. A snowball fight breaks out somewhere along the way, of course. But eventually they make it into the park, snow squeaking beneath their feet, and everyone stills a bit, taking in the beauty of the undisturbed blanket of white amidst the trees and wrought iron benches.
It’s when they’re all standing side by side in front of the towering Christmas tree, silently admiring the dusting of flakes across the red and gold ornaments, that Teammate notices something off in the idyllic scenery. On the closest bench to the tree, there’s a person. At least, they’re pretty sure it’s a person. It’s a lump of clothing, at least, covered in a thin layer of snow.
That realization is what sets their feet into motion. Snow settling on top of a person means that their body heat is no longer melting it off. Dropping to their knees next to the bench, Teammate quickly brushes off what they can with their gloved hands, noticing with concern that the person isn’t wearing a coat. Or gloves. Or a hat. Only a pair of jeans, sneakers, and a thin long-sleeved shirt.
And then Teammate leans in closer, taking in the closed eyes, the too-pale face, and their heart stops beating.
It’s…it’s Whumpee.
“No,” they whisper, suddenly frantic to get rid of the rest of the snow. “No no no no, Whumpee. Whumpee! Can you hear me? Come on, please, don’t do this to me.”
What happened? Why are they out here? What reason could Whumpee have possibly had for being out here in these freezing temperatures, not even dressed for the weather?
Spouse has joined them now, leaning over their shoulder and reaching out to touch Whumpee’s arm. “We need to get them inside and warmed up. Now.”
Right. Right, of course. A plan. They can fix this, they can help them. Teammate stands, readying to pick Whumpee up, then stops and stoops down again. They slide their gloves off their own hands and tug them over Whumpee’s white-tipped fingers, then repeat the process with their hat, making sure it’s pulled down snugly over their ears.
Then they scoop them up off the bench, and immediately wonder if Whumpee has always been this…small.
“Call the team,” Teammate calls to Spouse. “Tell them to meet us at home.” Everyone’s Christmas is going to have to wait. They’re going to want to be here.
The walk home passes in a blur of white and worry. Whumpee never stirs the whole way, remaining limp and far too cold in Teammate’s arms.
Spouse beats them to the door, unlocking it and racing inside to start gathering supplies. The children stand back, silent and stunned, watching as Teammate carefully deposits Whumpee onto the couch and drapes a throw blanket over them. A moment later Spouse arrives with another armload of them, then disappears again to get a bowl of warm water.
“It looked like their fingers had some frostbite,” they explain, and Teammate quickly pulls off the gloves. They’re right, the tips of their fingers are unnaturally colored, cold and hard. They tug up the edges of the hat and find their ears look much the same.
“I’ll get a warm washcloth,” Spouse murmurs.
There’s a frantic knock on the front door. “And that’ll be the team.” Teammate forces a smile toward the oldest child. “Will you get that, sweetie?”
Both children scurry off as they gently lower Whumpee’s fingers into the bowl of water. Spouse returns with the washcloth just as Leader flies into the room, a storm of cold air, huffed breaths, and panicked movements.
“What happened?” they demand, hovering over the couch, obviously wanting to reach out but unsure if they should.
Teammate shakes their head. “I don’t know. I found them like this on a park bench, covered in snow.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.” Leader finally settles for starting in on the pile of blankets and comforters, laying them one by one over Whumpee until they can barely be seen anymore. “Why would they have been outside? They texted us last night, remember? If something was wrong they should have said. You don’t think they were out there all night, do you?”
The constant stream of questions just agitates Teammate further but they know exactly how Leader feels. “I don’t know. I just…I don’t know.” They brush a strand of hair back from Whumpee’s face, careful not to bump the warm cloth that Spouse set on their ear. “They’ll be okay, though. They…they’ve got to.”
The rest of the team arrives soon. They hang back with the children, who are happy to be surrounded by their honorary aunts and uncles, staying out of the way. All of the same questions are asked over again, and the answer still remains that no one knows. They won’t know until Whumpee wakes up and tells them themself.
Which is going to happen. They have to keep believing that.
It’s a quiet Christmas morning, nothing like any of them had imagined when they had woken up to a world of sparkling white. The remainder of the presents sit underneath the tree, forgotten, while the team and Spouse keep vigil, changing out water and cloths and waiting.
Just waiting.
And no one asks the other pressing question on everyone’s mind - “Who was Whumpee supposed to be spending Christmas with?”
Maybe because they’re all too ashamed to admit that they have no idea.
Finally, there’s a change. Subtle, at first. Whumpee’s eyebrows scrunch, and their lips press together, and Teammate freezes, watching. Then the blankets shift a little.
“Guys!” they whisper, heart pounding. “I think they’re waking up!”
The whole team is gathered by the couch in an instant, holding their collective breath. Whumpee shifts again, and ever so slowly their eyes pry open. For a moment no one speaks, allowing them to take in their surroundings with glazed vision.
“Hey,” Leader says softly. “Are you with us?”
Whumpee’s eyes flick up to them. “Wha-…what happ’n’d?” Their voice is raspy, small, not like the confident cheer everyone is used to from them, but it’s incredibly relieving just to hear them speak.
“We were hoping you could tell us,” Teammate replies gently, removing the washcloth from their ear and checking to see that their ears have turned from white to pink. “We found you half-frozen in the park.”
Their eyes widen and they start trying to sit up. “Must’ve…must’ve fallen ‘sleep.”
“Whoa, whoa, don’t do that. You need to stay down.” Leader places a hand on their shoulder and that’s all it takes to keep them from rising.
Teammate nods, brushing their knuckles against Whumpee’s red cheek. “You’re still way colder than you should be.” A frown creases their features. “What do you mean, you fell asleep? How did you fall asleep in the park in the snow?”
Whumpee cuts their gaze away, silent for a moment. “Wanted to see th’ tree. Started snowing. Guess I got tired.”
Teammate glances up at Leader and sees their concern reflected there. Something’s not adding up. Does Whumpee really expect them to believe that they just…fell asleep on a hard iron bench that easily? That they somehow weren’t bothered by the cold and the snow? Not to mention there’s still no explanation for why they weren’t wearing a coat. They’ve always joked coming into headquarters on cold days without one that they’re warmblooded, but wandering through the snow at night should have been different.
They’re smart. They should know how to take care of themself.
Before anyone can press farther, Whumpee suddenly starts struggling to sit up again. “Wait, is it…is it Christmas?”
“Yeah, it is.” Leader presses them back into the couch cushions again. “Is there someone we should be calling for you, to let them know why you’re not there?”
Confusion shadows Whumpee’s face, but quickly morphs into concern. “No, no there’s…there’s no one. But none of you should be here! You’re supposed to be with your families!”
“We are.” Teammate takes Whumpee’s face in their hands so they’re forced to make eye contact. “You are our family, Whumpee. We’re all right where we want to be.”
It seems to take a few seconds for the words to process, but then Whumpee’s eyes fill with tears. “I didn’t…didn’t want to be a burden. Wanted you all to have a good…good Christmas.”
Leader’s hand strokes up and down the blanket-covered arm. “You’re never a burden. We’re worried about you, though. You have to talk to us, so we can help you.”
The other team members press in closer as Whumpee sniffles, making their presence known in little touches and soft words. Tears streak down Whumpee’s cheeks and they cling tightly to Teammate’s hand.
“‘s good to…to have a family,” they whisper finally, and Teammate’s heart breaks. “Love you guys.”
“We love you, too, Whumpee,” Leader returns.
Exhausted, Whumpee shuts their eyes and drifts back to sleep. Part of Teammate wants to keep them awake, to keep pressing for answers, but rest and healing is more important right now. They’ll find out for sure what happened eventually. A glance around at the other faces tells them that no one is going to give up on that soon. Whatever is going on with Whumpee, they’re going to make it right, like a family should.
Using the hand not trapped in Whumpee’s grip, Teammate swipes away the remaining tears from their cheeks. “Don’t worry. We’ll all be right here.”

Harley had been out of Arkham for a while thanks to the Suicide Squad but not her dear Puddin no she had to get him out so she got their clowny goons together and went to Arham for a little visit.
Shots were firing everywhere from goons with clown masks. Harley was plugging her ears with her two fingers “Gee so loud” she skipped gleefully to Jokers cell and bent over placing explosives on it “la de da” she hummed then she backflipped out of the way and plugged her ears. Boom. Jokers cell was opened. Harley skipped right in and opened her arms “Ta da! Its me Puddin!” she skipped right up to him breasts bouncing so happy to see him she jumped on him and kissed him desperately “Oh puddin I missed you” she said in her sweet honey voice.

Real Talk
Words: 1639 Warnings: angst Pairing: Sonny x Reader AO3 here
This idea popped into my head after that phone call Sonny received which seemed to be a date. So, ignore the fact that we know that the person on the other end was Nicole. 🙃
Part 2
---
You had met Sonny at Fordham while taking your law degree. A few classes together and the two of you, with a couple other people, hit it off. Yes, you were part of that group Sonny mentioned to Amaro. The group that he went bowling with. In fact, you were even one of the “pretty girls”. However, that’s where it stayed. You and Sonny often bounced ideas off one another and studied for exams.
Any girl would be a fool to say that they didn’t have a crush on Carisi at least at some point, and you were no different. But the thing was, your friendship meant so much more. It was uncomplicated. Just two people who supported one another; borrowed ears to let off steam from time to time.
When graduation rolled around though, you and Sonny saw less and less of one another. His detective gig left him such little free time to begin with that without classes, it was virtually impossible to find the time to get together. And, as so often happens, the texts and calls grew fewer and far between until six whole years had come and gone.
That all changed however, when you walked into the Manhattan DA’s office to cross reference about a case that you were working in Brooklyn. You could recognize that lanky, well-dressed man anywhere. He was speaking to a colleague, using his hands like he always did to get his point across. Your heart rose to your throat.
“Sonny?” you speak up, but you already know the answer. He swivels on his heels to face you, his features easing and eyes lighting up upon recognition.
He crosses the room in just a few long strides, a huge smile plastered on his face. He speaks your name and scoops you into a hug. It catches you by surprise at first, but the warmth of his arms around you – back around you after so many years, makes you genuinely happy. “How are ya?” he exclaims. “It’s been too long.”
You make small talk for a little while, catching up on what you’d missed. Sonny was an ADA now, finally biting the bullet and moving on from SVU. You tell him that you’re working in Brooklyn, not on criminal cases, that was always more Sonny’s speed, but still enjoying the career that your time at Fordham had awarded you. It was decided that you and Sonny needed to make grabbing coffees and lunches a regular occurrence, and so the two of you reserved a space in your calendar for the first one of many.
It was nice to rekindle that friendship. For all the time you knew one another at school, you had always had one another’s backs. There were never any judgements and the two of you could talk about anything and everything. Sonny would always make sure you were doing okay, seemingly knowing just when you needed him to talk to. This dynamic worked both ways too. It used to be that Sonny would phone you up, sometimes in the middle of the night, because he had come off a particularly hard case. You always picked up and it was that mutual friendship and care that got you both through many tough times.
Unfortunately, in those six years, that type of relationship was something you hadn’t found since. Seeing Sonny again made you realize just how much you had missed him. Not to mention that he had gotten more handsome and impossibly sweeter. You hated to admit that there was a flutter in your stomach every time he would smile and a heat that rose to your cheeks when he’d give you a quick peck as a friendly hello.
Little did you know that Sonny was starting to feel that way too and, after a few months of coffee and lunch meet-ups, he invited you to have dinner with him. You suggested a place, one of the few restaurants which were open for dine-in and one that you loved.
Was it a date? You weren’t exactly sure, but you worked up the courage to make tonight the time to tell him how you felt. You put forth extra effort in your appearance, styling your hair and slipping into a nice dress. Stepping in front of the mirror, you take a deep breath and tell yourself that it’s now or never.
Then your phone rings. It’s Sonny. You pick up and greet him, smiling.
“Hey,” he says. “I just finished my paperwork n’ am ready ta leave.”
“Great!” you say eagerly. “I’ll call to confirm our reservation -”
“Ah, that sounds great,” Sonny sounds in your ear.
“- and I’ll make my way over there.”
“Ah, that sounds great,” he says again. His voice sounds genuinely excited. “Listen, I’ll meet you there in an hour.”
“Sounds good, Sonny.” You take a breath, softening your voice. “I’m really looking forward to tonight.”
“Yeah, me too.” You can hear the smile in his voice.
“See you soon. Bye.”
“Alright, bye.”
A fluster of nervousness and excitement churn in your gut as you grab your coat and purse and head for the door.
---
Arriving at the restaurant, you’re taken to a table out of the way in one of the back corners. All the better to have a conversation, you think to yourself.
Just as you’ve gotten comfortable, your phone rings again. Sonny Carisi flashes on the screen. Your heart rises to your throat, unsure why he would be calling. “What’s up?” you answer.
“I’m gonna be late,” he begins apologetically. “Rollins had a family emergency and I was helping her take care of a few things.”
“Oh, okay,” you stammer out, slightly confused. “Be careful.”
“Yeah, I will. See you in a bit.” The line clicks off.
Amanda Rollins. A major figure in Sonny’s work life. His partner as a detective and still a member of the squad he tries cases for. Many the times you had heard about Rollins: how hard she had things, her problematic family, her daughter Jesse. And each mention of her would be rooted in Sonny’s desire to help her out somehow. Cook her dinner or help her with her baby. He’d tell you how great of a detective she was and how she, too, had his back.
However, Sonny could be gullible. He made decisions with his heart rather than his head and sometimes that let people take advantage of his kindness. So, you were often cautious on his behalf when he’d tell you about the things he did for Amanda. Sometimes it seemed that she, whether intentional or not, would accept Sonny’s kindness without giving him much in return. And by the way he used to talk about her, you suspected he had developed some sort of feelings for her. But through these conversations, he also invertedly revealed how she kept him at arms length. Now, from Sonny’s phone call, you suppose that things had never changed.
You sit there for what feels like an eternity, the waiter returning to check in on you a few times, until finally you see him round the restaurant corner towards your booth.
“I’m so sorry,” he begins, taking a seat. “Rollins – her dad had a stroke n' she needed ta fly out immediately. I arranged for her mom to watch her kids n' informed Liv what was goin' on. I feel so bad. I mean, she’s been through so much n' she really has no one…” He looks up at you then, noticing your attire. His eyebrows lift as he drinks in how pretty you look. But your face tells a different story.
You feel so disappointed. Not in Sonny, but rather, in yourself. You thought that the history you shared would bring you closer together. A solid and mutually supportive friendship was something you longed for in a significant other. Something for love to build off of and grow. Now though, seeing how Sonny was still holding out hope for Amanda, still giving her every ounce of himself with little in return, you couldn’t take it.
You catch Sonny’s gaze. “It was silly of me to think that this was a date.” Your voice is quiet, sadness brimming your words.
He stares back at you confused. His brow knits, “No!” he begins, the realization hitting him. “It was – is a date!” He reaches for your hand, placing his overtop. “I asked you here because it felt so good to reconnect with you. I missed you. We get along so easily and it’s nice to have someone to talk to again. I always thought you were attractive too, both physically and intellectually. When we were at Fordham we were always just friends but seeing you again and having you back in my life, well, it made me feel something.”
Sonny looks positively hurt, yet he understands how all this must seem to you. “I missed you too, Sonny. So much,” you reply, voice a little unsteady. “And I care about you more than you could ever imagine.” You give his hand a small squeeze and he closes his eyes for a moment, knowingly. “Except, I can’t be a placeholder while you wait for Amanda to come around. It’s not fair to me. It’s not fair to you either, but that decision has to come from you.”
There it is. All feelings laid bare. There’s nothing more you can say. You have and always will support Sonny and you always will be his friend. However, those lines between friendship and something more were starting to blur and before you give your heart away, you need to know if Sonny truly wishes to accept it.
Sonny studies your face, his mind racing. Then he looks down, squeezing his eyes shut. “I know,” he says running a thumb along your knuckles. "I know."

Hi, lise....now that you finished 'Word of Honor', do you enjoy it overall? What do you think of the characters and the plot?
okay, first off I want to say that I really enjoyed it and I am going to watch it again, because I feel like the rest of this answer is going to come off sounding a lot more critical. so I want to make that clear first.
it’s just always going to be easier for me to articulate things I don’t like about something than things I do. unfortunate.
first of all: I do genuinely and sincerely and completely love the villain4villain thing that wen kexing and zhou zishu have got going on. it is amazing. and I love that they’re both...people with dark and ugly sides to them, sort of at various points along the path of “not evil anymore want to be loved now” (and wen kexing bouncing back to “evil again” a few times. it’s hard! and he’s also just. very sexy when he’s being ghost valley master mode/murder mode in general.)
I love their dynamic, too, where they’re so playful. they tease each other, they joke, and it’s a pleasure especially to watch zhou zishu emerge from his depression over the course of the show, getting drawn out a little at a time, so you see more and more of his sense of humor and his smiles. he has a very cute smile, it’s good.
also: love gu xiang, she captured my heart pretty much right off the bat and never lost it. love how capable she was, love her struggling to figure out her humanity, love her relationship with wen kexing (especially that! so much!) and also her relationship with all the ladies of ghost valley. love all the ladies in general - this was a show with a lot of really cool women in it who were dynamic and interesting and, most excitingly in my opinion, had relationships with each other.
on the other hand, did not love that almost all of them died, bar one, and also was not a fan of gu xiang and cao weining’s romance, even though I did find cao weining endearing at times (and the way it was built as a clear parallel to wen kexing and zhou zishu was very nicely done. love those heterosexual proxies.)
(although like. wow. they really just...went for it, didn’t they.)
on the other hand, I found the plot...frankly borderline incomprehensible for much of the show, and I’m still not sure I get it overall. it was very macguffin, as many people have noted, and just...I was having a very hard time tracking everything. it is likely that things will make more sense on rewatch, but I personally found the plot of this one harder to follow than the plot of cql, and less compelling. I was definitely in this one for the relationship(s) and not the plot otherwise.
I also...I don’t know if this is an ~unpopular opinion~ or what, but I was not a huge fan of the reveal that wen kexing and zhou zishu had met before? I see why they did it, but I would’ve preferred if they’d been strangers prior to meeting at this point in their lives where they were both...at turning points in their (career) paths. I found that more compelling and was a little disappointed by that particular decision (which I understand is a departure from the novel).
the pacing of the last five episodes...definitely suffered, which I am given to understand is probably an effect of their number of episodes getting cut, but still impacted the viewing experience.
and of course I have not mentioned xie’er yet, or the scorpion squad in general, which is very remiss of me. love them. love them very much. love the relationship between da pusa and xie wang, but of course - of course - love even more the deeply, deeply fucked up relationship between xie’er and zhao jing. like. boy is that a mess and boy am I here for it.
(also just like. the way that xie’er lights up when he gets praised for something? adorable. I’m a sucker for characters who will casually kill people like it’s nothing and then get very “!!!!!” when people are happy with them.)
I feel like I have not mentioned chengling and that is because overall he did not make much of an impression on me. I liked him, and I definitely felt bad for him (boy does everyone keep fucking dying on this kid), but I didn’t have any particular emotional attachment.
ye baiyi was also amazing. especially every time he and wen kexing were in the same room together. so, so good. thanks for that, everyone.
I guess to sum up...I feel like this was a show where I liked a lot of elements and I really liked the main relationship, but there were a lot of the surrounding trappings that frustrated me and I didn’t find the overarching plot terribly compelling, which combined with the rushed feeling ending left me feeling...dissatisfied overall, I guess.
like I said, I’m going to rewatch, and I really, really loved a lot of pieces of it! particularly wen kexing, xie’er, and everything about wen kexing and zhou zishu’s dynamic and the way they played off each other.
(also, hoo boy, lots of quality whump material in there. that was nice.)
there were just some places where it felt like it fell a little short of what I wanted from it.
