Favorite Disney Parks Attraction Showdown: Round 1 - Group D2

Videos and propaganda under the cut!
Journey into Imagination with Figment: Epcot
Propaganda:
"Okay, look. I am sad that I never got to know the Dreamfinder. BUT. I can't be too sad about it because this ride is at the center of some very fond childhood memories. I remember the rest of my family and I being so excited to run around and ride the attraction again. I love the hijinks Figment pulls in the senses labs. I remember being convinced each ride that this would be the one we would get a scent other than skunk. I was absolutely delighted to see Figment's upsidedown house. And the One Little Spark song and the grand finale just fills me with joy. I'm always going to have a place in my heart for this ride."

Christ can everyone just take a step back and stop circlejerking hate on bungie? Yes, a lot of good talent was laid off. Yes, the higher ups are to blame. But GOD if it doesn't sound like the average reddit thread everywhere. I'm tired of the game and the bullshit too. I considered quitting the game entirely during Lightfall. But im still here because I'm choosing to believe in one last hurrah. One last ride into the dark abyss. I've been playing since Forsaken. I remember all the FOMO and the poor choices. I remember Shadowkeep's 3 hour campaign. But I stayed.
Give them one last chance. You really want to tell the CEO to suck it? Don't buy Final Shape. Don't buy the new Eververse stuff with Silver. Don't buy the event upgrade passes.
Your wallet speaks louder than the negativity echo chamber that exists.

Objectum/Robophilia blogs who are mean to people/exclude people attracted to humanoid bots like androids/object heads/etc need to shut the hell up and be niceys. Robot is Robot. We all what the same darn thing. I know darn well plenty of you started your journeys attracted to a humanoid bot and it segwayed from there. Wether its cassette type tech or a humanoid android we both want to dip our fingers in those wires. Its about the feeling. The closeness. The intimacy of loving something nonhuman in such a human way. C-3PO and R2-D2 were two completely different looking droids and still fell in love with each other did they not? Be niceys.

doing a half-assed rewatch of D2 as i work on a fic but. a thought on the Cotillian fashions--
Uma's dress is much more complimentary of Ben's. She has the gold, in jewelry and accents, and the military-esque epaulets which compliment Ben's gold and military-esque jacket. They're both in mostly blue, sleek looks.
They feel coordinated and intentional, presenting a united but independent front/pairing.
Mal's dress, especially before her transformation (dragon and literal), is very... individual. Obviously part of her journey over the course of this movie is to learn how to balance two parts of herself.
But the complete juxtaposition of her dress next to Ben's really speaks to the way their relationship plays out. She has no gold, no blue. She has yellow and purple (and later purple and black and green). The yellow is the same yellow that Belle wears, rather than anything that Ben is wearing. She has voluminous skirts that take up space, literally separating her from her friends and from Ben.
Mal does not compromise with Ben, does not compromise her chosen identities. She maintains her individuality, even if it isolates her.
Staying true to yourself is a good message for a regular relationship, but as rulers, not as much.
And of course, Uma and Ben's coordination can speak to the spell Uma has Ben under. But both their costumes are true to their characters without any huge adjustments, where for Mal to match Ben it would have to be a very different dress.
So just some thoughts on how Mal and Uma are presented in juxtaposition to Ben at Cotillion.

On Harry Potter Syndrome
Tumblr media
Whenever there's a milquetoast protagonist surrounded by infinitely more interesting side characters and is easily overshadowed by their actual sidekicks, I call that "Harry Potter Syndrome" and tbh I think it should catch on. Here's some examples.
Tumblr media
Fandom(!) Danny is so much more interesting, and tbh, a kid growing up with ghost hunting parents shoulda turned out a lot weirder. Perfect example of Harry Potter Syndrome.
Tumblr media
I love you Sora. I love you and your simple/ clean mind. I love how you tear through eldritch abominations with the power of both Love and also blunt force trauma. I also love how you objectively have the least amount of personal trauma and drama out of all of the playable characters in the games you started and I hope the lovecraftian terror of the circumstances surrounding your story never truly register as anything other than a fun adventure to your untainted, rarely used twink brain.
And yet everyone else in the series including the fucking mouse has enough backstory and angst to fill up an entire library with journals of badly written emo poetry or better yet thirteen games with the audacity of pretending to be a trilogy.
Yes, Kingdom Hearts suffers from Harry Potter syndrome, but it's also proof that that might not necessarily be a bad thing.
Tumblr media
You guys, Madoka is so good. I swear it's a lot more than just an edgy Magical Girl show. It has amazing art that makes use of mixed media in a really creative way. It's also dark and surreal and surprisingly reminiscent of movies like Donnie Darko and Carrie. It's also incredibly gay.
And Madoka is likable enough, I guess. But also... if I had to nitpick anything about the show, it's that she's also kinda sorta boring? I mean, it is kinda funny seeing an adorable pink haired teenager earnestly talk about desiring "more power". But still.
Tumblr media
A New Hope is probably the movie that inspired thousands of other cases of Harry Potter Syndrome, including Harry Potter himself, though I feel the need to point out how deliberate it is with it.
Luke is the Protagonist of the movie, unambiguosly. That's him front and center of the poster, and he's the guy who follows the hero's journey and ultimately comes out looking like the hero in all of this. But he's also not the sole viewpoint character of the film, and I think it's pretty telling that the first third of the movie takes place from the POV of a pair of gay married robots.
Depending on the scene, we take on the POV of either Luke, R2-D2, C3PO, Han Solo, Tarkin, or Princess Leia. Of these characters Luke undeniably fills in the role of milquetoast hero, but George Lucas understood the power of a good ensemble cast from the movie's inception.
And finally
Tumblr media
Let's face it, this movie suffers so hard from Harry Potter syndrome, the marketing guys just said "fuck it" and put Johnny Depp on the poster instead.

Saint and Osiris can both cook delicious meals. However, Saint does most of the cooking.
Saint cooks a lot of foods from his homeland, granted none of them are the original as he lost them after his reset. he settles for collecting recipes from his journeys and the ones he finds on data pads.
He's undeniably an early bird, up at the ass crack of dawn to feed his pigeons, do his morning run, and cook breakfast for you two.
Osiris is a good cook, especially with more complex meals. He often cooks dinner.
You will never ever see this man cook breakfast, he's either still slaving away at his projects or curled up in bed with you.
Osiris, for a long time, hasn't been the best at properly eating. Relies on small snacks to keep him going through out the day.
While he is stubborn, it doesn't take much for him to put his work down and eat with the two of you when you ask.
Both Osiris and Saint like spicy foods.
Cooking with all three of you can be either a calm or hectic experience, it really depends.

Rewatching bits and pieces of Destiny 1 Year 1 campaign and thoughts occurred during the introduction of the Sovs. Everything looks a bit run down, and the Uldren's armor is a far cry from the fancy duds he had in D2. Do we know if the Dreaming City already existed at this point, or is their anything in the background talking about how this was some kind of deception/bluff to hide the Awoken's capabilities from the Vanguard?
The Dreaming City was made fairly early on, so it existed at the time, just hidden. It was mostly hidden because it's a sort of sacred place to the Awoken, but also because it was Riven's prison as well. The run down vibe of the Reef is definitely a part of the whole secrecy that Mara always projects; it's best if no one knows everything the Awoken have at their disposal, especially as they were coming closer to the confrontation with Oryx.
Also consider that the Reef was the first home of the Awoken as they returned from the Distributary. They made it with what little they had in terms of technology, in an inhospitable and barren place. The vibe definitely reflects that as well, life in near vacuum on asteroids and debris. The construction of a settlement began right away as soon as they got to the Reef, so the place is old:
Mara calls a caucus of elected representatives in the Sacred Fire, one of the largest hulks in the reef of derelicts. The Fire was built to support habitat construction on 4 Vesta, where Mara hopes to one day anchor the entire flotilla and set down roots—but the hopeful, fearful faces before her make Mara afraid that it'll never happen.
The early Awoken settlements are all around or near the asteroid Vesta, with the Vestian Outpost being a sort of a port of entry to the rest of the Awoken space. The Dreaming City must've been constructed on or partially from Vesta, due to the location names; Rheasilvia is a crater on Vesta, and Divalian Mists is named after another feature on the asteroid (irl!)
Here's Mara telling Uldren to go find her something that will help her make a proper city, so that her people can live on something more than just the debris and asteroid space of Vesta (this also hints at the secrecy of it all, as she specified needing a power no one would know about after Uldren suggested that making one city would be a vulnerability):
"Brother," she said, "never again can I allow my people to be divided. We must offer them more than shielding ice and cold habitat cylinders and the warrens of Vesta. We must make a culture, a thread that binds us all in pride and wonder at the mystery of ourselves. Nowhere does culture flourish better than in a city." "Gather in one place," Uldren warned her, "and you make yourself a target." Mara had considered this, and found an answer. "Go forth and find me a power unknown to all the other powers of this world. Return it to me, and I shall make of it the cornerstone of my new city, where the Awoken shall dream of all they have been and all that is yet to come."
He returns with Riven! This is shortly after the Awoken were divided into Reefborn and Earthborn. It's not super clear when this is all happening, but it's relatively early after their return from the Distributary and definitely long before the events of the first game. A sort of rough timeline of events is mentioned here, if it can be trusted:
Later would come Eris Morn, Osiris, Toland, and all the other accessories of the majestic suicide. Later would come the Reef's tentative entanglements with Vex and Cabal, Fallen and Hive, and the fateful decision to intervene when the House of Wolves turned Earthward to conquer the Last Human City. Later, there would be stories here untold, the Ahamkara and the subcreation of the Dreaming City, the shatterstone fury of the Reef Wars, brother Uldren's journeys into that fell garden...
This would put it at some point around or before the Twilight Gap and the Reef Wars. It's definitely been around for a while, but well-hidden to prevent anyone from getting too close to that sacred space, and to hide Riven's existence. Secrecy was a major component of the look of the Vestian Outpost and other Awoken spaces in the Reef, but the look also reflects their age too.

I think the reason people find it so easy to blame Mal for the events of D2 is that the conflict it sets up and the one it resolves are different. The movie takes pains to show that Mal is overwhelmed and she’s making a Mistake as a result of the stress and pressure to fit in. Inciting incident is her fight and going to the isle. The problem is pretending to be someone you’re not.
The Conflict that’s Resolved is rescuing Ben from being kidnapped and placed under Uma’s influence. The solution is that Mal and Ben know they love each other.
People who don’t see or are not invested in Mal’s problems/ are unwilling to forgive the Numerous Serious Offenses Mal commits toward Ben see that Ben’s conflict, the one the movie uses as a climax and is the one that’s Resolved is caused by Mal. He wouldn’t be on the Isle if she hadn’t left for 'no reason'. He shouldn’t follow her after she tried to spell him again. He wouldn’t be a target if Uma didn’t hate Mal. If Mal hadn’t used magic in the first place none of this would have happened. If Mal had just talked about her problems none of this would have happened.
The whole movie is kinda Fucked, structurally. Because basically none of the character arcs connect. Ben’s journey towards understanding the Isle only exists in the abstract. Uma’s goals of revenge against being left behind and solidarity with the rest of the VKs only solidifies in the third movie and Only the playground grudge is mentioned in any of the scenes with Mal. Evie’s whole deal could have been well suited to everybody’s arc. Apologizing to Mal for ignoring her problems, coaching Ben on what the isle is actually like, and sympathizing with Uma over those left behind (Dizzy). Jay actually hardly has an arc but it could have been another way of showing difficulty fitting into the standards Auradon set, being too good to contrast Mal's highly publicized not good enough, and committing harm by feeling unable to challenge harmful rules.
Carlos’ arc unsympathetic in the context of D2’s themes I’ll say it.
Carlos’ arc is “just talk to a girl normally” but let’s not forget the Truth Gummy part of his plan. Just considering the magic shit everywhere else in this movie :/
Jay is never connected with Mal’s use of magic to fit in. Evie knows and doesn’t approve. Ben Doesn’t know and Doesn’t approve. And then Carlos is asking Mal for personal magical favors to Actually “solve problems the easy way” like how Ben frames Mal’s actions. This isn’t even addressed because Dude eats the gummy for comic relief reasons and Carlos asks Jane out normal in the end.

Project Ecco
A solo roleplaying game by Elliot Davis
Materials
game manual
a planner, new or used
a coin/d2 and d6
materials to destroy your planner
further into play: additional coin and die, standard deck of cards, tarot deck
Tumblr media
Premise
A mysterious agency, an even more mysterious entity feeding on time itself and smack-dab in the middle: You. As an extension of the Agency, you are tasked with uncovering the truth about “ECCO”, the Entity of Chronological Consumption and Obfuscation. Navigating the chaos of days flying by with the aid of a simple coin, will you complete your mission to the Agency’s satisfaction straightforwardly or will you travel down a road not yet taken, peeking behind a curtain of lies? Who is really on your side? Or, perhaps more importantly, on whose side are you?
Mechanics
In Project Ecco, you progress through time and the game using a regular planner and a variety of different time travel tools. While you might be tempted to use a brand new, untouched planner for this, a used one will do just fine and might even make the game more personal and varied, since existing notes or special dates can be incorporated into play. Keep in mind that your planner will end up at least partially destroyed by the Entity, then again the level of destruction is completely up to you. Scissors are certainly an option, but a good opaque paint marker achieves the same effect with less confetti.
Tumblr media
Your tools of choice are in essence a set of game oracles: prompts decided by dice, playing and tarot cards determine how far back or ahead in your planner you travel and which challenges you encounter along the way. Time travel can be quite random, so don’t be scared when you land on the same day more than once. At least as long as you have your trusty coin, the only thing that will keep you from slipping in-between time and experiencing some truly harrowing events. How you respond to these prompts is up to you. Write, draw, use planner stickers; the only limit is the space your planner gives you for the date you are currently on.
Tumblr media
During your travels, you tally up the times you either make it back to the Agency or get uncomfortably close to the Entity. Entity encounters in particular are interesting because they prompt you to destroy random dates in your calendar, possibly forcing you into a timeline divergence later on. Completing six encounters either way triggers the endgame – but not necessarily the end of the journey

Thoughts and Examples from my Playthrough
I had a lot of trouble trying to summarize the game in the above paragraphs. Project Ecco is a very meaty, complex (but not necessarily complicated) game and is more of a five-course meal than an afternoon snack. Consequently, reading the setup instructions can be a little intimidating for someone who has only started dabbling in solo play. Everything is explained thoroughly without being exhausting, however, and on top of that I found myself really interested to read about the different tools and mechanics. In fact, I had to stop myself from snooping too much so as not to spoil my first playthrough.
Tumblr media
Your game can last you several sessions over a couple of days. Don’t worry, though, all the cool time travel tools make for a fresh and exciting experience. Special dates, timeline divergences, personal notes and Agency/Entity encounters also serve to keep you on your toes. Whenever you feel like you have seen it all, a new prompt throws you a curveball, altering your perspective on the world and its inhabitants. It’s also great for replayability purposes, as your first playthrough can influence how you go about the challenges on your second round. I usually don’t care much for replay value (my time is limited and there’s a lot of games to try out), in this case, however, it’s so on theme that it’s almost a crime not to play again.
When you have the general cycle down, the game is a breeze. Have I mentioned that I love the time travel devices? Each and every one is unique in the way it lets you progress. As soon as you pick them up during the game, you can switch freely between them. Either you are very strategic about it to avoid repeat visits to certain dates or you embrace chaos for some interesting results. In the beginning, I dreaded losing my coin and experiencing timeline divergences. The closer I got to the endgame, the more I revelled in the wild and unpredictable element they brought to the game and the story that unfolded.
Tumblr media
At this point, it shouldn’t amaze me that much how game designers manage to achieve this impeccable level of worldbuilding with just a bit of flavour text and a handful of prompts. From the agents’ designations being real world dates to the time travel tools with clear retro vibes, Project Ecco lets you dive into an 80s sci-fi flick with you as the protagonist torn between your fragile loyalty to the Agency and the conflicting discoveries you make about the Entity. I suppose if there was one thing you wanted to knock, it could be that this is not a very character-driven game. A lot of journaling games focus on the character you create, often as a stand-in for yourself, dealing with their emotions and feelings as they react to the events thrown at them. This is more of mystery thriller focused on plot than a character exploration game. Character creation is as simple as picking your agent designation and, if you’re using a personal planner and are very meticulous in adding dates specific to your character, weaving in details during the game. That being said, I did manage to spin this into a tragic queer romance
such is the nature of solo roleplaying. Hence, others might disagree on this with me, and that’s totally fine.
Tumblr media
My attention span has been wavering lately, so I honestly didn’t expect to stick with this. But everything about Project Ecco drew me in. I love the manual that looks like a genuine little agent handbook and the details of the understated illustrations. A solid white-black-and-red colour scheme is always a classy choice. The prompts are descriptive enough to give you guidance and bits of lore without limiting you to a specific path. It’s simply an overall round and well-thought-out experience through and through. I’m a little peeved I didn’t get the Temporal Spread – Samantha Leigh was a guest writer for this specific time travel tool and I’ve been dying to get into their other games (especially Outliers, which seems to deal with adjacent themes), so I was looking forward to get a peek at their writing here. Alas, my agent just wasn’t destined to have it
perhaps the next one will.
I wonder how well this would hold up with a digital planner. Mostly, I am an analogue player when it comes to journaling games. I like how tactile it is and that you're creating an artifact of play to keep on your shelf, something very unique and often verging on if not being outright artistry. But the analogue format does (perhaps intentionally) limit your word count and thus keeps journaling rather short and to the point. I suppose a digital format would allow for more character development, if that is your goal. It would also extend your playtime – which is already significant as is. Still, certainly an interesting option, especially when you plan on playing more than twice.
Tumblr media
This might be your cup of coffee if...
you revel in a good time travel mystery.
you prefer to play longer games with more complex mechanics than the average journaling game.
you enjoy some solid worldbuilding and lore to add onto over time, possibly in multiple playthroughs.
you are not afraid to mess up some prime stationary. Seriously. If you love your planner? Do not use it for this. Bullet journaling queens and kings, beware!
You can get Elliot Davis’ Project Ecco HERE on itch.io or as a physical copy available at the online sources linked in the description of the game. Make sure to check out Cassi Mothwin’s flip through of the game and take in the incredible actual play episode by the My First Dungeon podcast crew that I enjoyed immensely and proves that this game supports a more light-hearted tone, as well. In case you are the creative type, Davis is currently still running a game jam for supplements for and games inspired by Project Ecco on itch.io that lasts until March 1st. Plenty of time left to get your head in the game. :)

Another D2 Tradition: Onyx
Para @julietasgf, tu tradiciĂłn favorito!
This is another part of creating lore that comes from research. I want everything that I make to be based in realism, to seem as though it could be practiced in our world. So when researching Colorado quarries I ended up on onyx, which is historically mined pretty predominately enough in the area. And with every new stone I encounter, I always go through whatever meaning is usually associated with it.
For onyx, that's a talisman used predominantly for labor and delivery for a smooth and easy birth. (I can already hear ya'll typing "but what about unakite?" Shut up, I'll get to that!) I wanted to continue that lore for that stone in 2, so here's the tradition: at an announcement of pregnancy, women are given onyx; rough (not tumbled) onyx by the community (many people will have them on hand as they're prevalent to the area and hand them to pregnant women), representing the ultimate difficulty of pregnancy. Many expected parents in the district would be so overwhelmed with the amount of onyx they'd be given that they would set a small basket outside their home for people to come by and place their stones in. The closer to the due date comes, she’s given smoother onyx until the baby comes, when she’s presented with final fully smooth stone.
The future parents would hold onto the first stone of each month in a separate, smaller bowl. At the Home Name ceremony, the baby is given the final, fully tumbled one, which is usually turned into a bracelet for the child to wear for always, reminding them of their life, how difficult and painful and sharp it is, and will ultimately become smooth and simple. Many Cutter kids end up having that as their token in the arena, if they don't take a small satchel of their families stones, that is.
If a pregnancy and subsequent labor was particularly difficult, it’s pretty common to have that child be named Onyx, Home Name or not.
As for unakite, I'm leaning more towards it as a grounding, healing stone. It's usually placed upon the sick or injured as a healing talisman on either the area affected or some families put it on the meridian lines.
Onyx is a labor talisman, to help mothers throughout pregnancy, to remind them of the difficulty and beauty of creating life. Unakite is a healing talisman, to aid those throughout any painful journey, to remind them all that what is being done can and will end. The two are not mutually exclusive. Onyx gives life, unakite sustains it.

Locations Masterpost
a brief list of all the locations on Alternia relevant to my trolls and who inhabits them. any lore documents i have written up for the larger locations will also be linked below
this post will be updated periodically whenever new locations are made, or trolls are added / removed from them
feel free to reference these locations in your own worldbuilding, however please ask me first if you would like your trolls to also live in these locations (especially any of the towns and cities listed below). my rp settings are semi-open unless otherwise stated
note: im only including my own locations, not rp settings that belong to my friends that my trolls may also visit or be involved with. also, any one-off locations referenced in D2S have not been listed unless they end up becoming more fleshed out
Almadusk Woods - A dark forested area that is believed to be haunted, thanks to all the plantlife having a penchant for growing to resemble the screaming souls of the damned. Home to Nightfall Manor, an old gothic mansion which once belonged to infamous serial killer The Countess Antumbra. ↳ Known residents: Glasya Elliss, The Countess Antumbra (former)
Arctic North - A polar region up in the northernmost point of Alternia. It snows sweep-round, with large swathes of area being covered in ice sheets and permafrost. Further inland is more forested, and pockets of villages are spread out amongst the region. Larger villages are responsible for delivering goods to the smaller, more remote villages, although frequent blizzards can affect the supply chain. ↳ Known residents: Davitt Cesare (former), Leutia Izotze, Sigrun Apteno
Arctic North, Northern Lights Village - A small community within Alternia's Arctic North region. Only a few log cabins have been built here due to its isolated location, however the residents who live here are all very close. The next closest village is an approximate half hour journey via snowmobile. ↳ Known residents: Redeti Miraze, Fannar Bajorn
Ashwood Bushland - A large eucalyptus forest. The climate is quite arid and sees little to no rainfall in the warmer seasons, making the possibility of bushfires a serious risk. Few trolls live within this forest for that reason, however it is home to many unusual species of flora and fauna native to its highly unique ecosystem. ↳ Known residents: Kalpan Sewick
Bayside Keyes - An exclusively-seadwelling neighbourhood along the coastline. Mega mansions line the streets of this small gated community, each with their own section of private beach. While quieter and less territorial than other seadweller communities, its residents are hostile towards their own neighbours and keep to themselves. The climate may be warm, but the attitudes are ice cold. ↳ Known residents: Nemone Moryan (former), Veruco Miopah (former), Linnae Ishimi (former)
Block 136 - One of Alternia's major cities. A cultural melting pot of which trolls of all castes call their home, however social segregation is still rampant thanks to unofficial caste-based residential districts. Frequent gang activity is kept in check by the Legislacerators' powerful security system known colloquially as The Eyes of God. Loosely based on Melbourne, Australia. ↳ Lore document: Here (Note: this doc is extremely outdated, and I don't know when I'll get around to rewriting it) ↳ Known residents: Liiore Dariya, Raesul Mercur, Maagni Halvor, Leithe Arbied, Torada Gerrat (former), Fisher Cavius, Ashell Bathre, Renais Sulawe (former), Davitt Cesare, Velour, Fannar Bajorn (former), Mikiel Giacho, Nerrev Colume (presumed), Aiolos Hummel, Perria Vanche, Shirei Amynta & the OVERSEER gang, The Overseer (former), Lanthi Berrit, Arenai Karasu (former), Sobeit Quirem (former), Linnae Ishimi
Block 136, Lowblood District - An area in Block 136's south and southeastern sides of the city where many lowbloods have decided to build their hives. Both hivestem apartments and smaller townhouse-style hives have been constructed in this area, although they are of notably lower quality that the hivestem blocks closer to the city's centre. High crime rate. ↳ Known residents: Katrin Rissah, Nancor Pharom, Dismas Teufel, Aislin Cudovi, Quidel Benrii, Aegiel Lachan, Soroll Delfim, Daimon Sverre
The Deepwoods - A lush forest with thick canopies of thousand-sweep old trees. A light fog covers the majority of the forest, which seems to grow thicker until it becomes too difficult to breathe in within certain areas of the region. Hikers have reported experiencing hallucinations due to severe oxygen deprivation, as well as sightings of a mysterious monster known as The Deepwoods Demon. ↳ Known residents: Skathi Reckam (former), Kisert Azeban, Errett Sachin
Evergreen Woods - A forested area of reasonable size. The platonic ideal of a forest, with large evergreen trees and a temperate climate, and absolutely no notable features. Some trolls who live in this region have opted to construct their hives amongst the treetops. ↳ Known residents: Eichio Maccau, Callan Ranpoe, Amarys Viridi (former)
GrĂŒnesmeer Rainforest - A swamp-like rainforest with a slightly humid climate. Oils secreted from the trees give the bodies of water within the forest a distinct bright green hue, which is how the region got its name. Few trolls live in this area, and there's been multiple incidents of unexplained disappearances and drownings. ↳ Known residents: Vivyin Kafkah
Northwestern Highlands - A mountainous region in Alternia's northwest, characterised by its long green rolling plains and cliffs that end abruptly at the coastline. The number of hives in the area are sparse, but those who make the highlands their home witness spectacular views of both the ocean and the countryside. Based on both the Scottish and Irish Highlands. ↳ Known residents: Charon Acerbi, Somerl Alfero
Northwestern Midlands - A region in Alternia's northwest, less mountainous than the highlands and characterised by its many lakes and moorlands. The midlands is home to many castle ruins, and tends to be a popular location for hikers, history enthusiasts, and fans of romantic literature alike. Based on the Lakes District in England. ↳ Known residents: Ariete Qurioe
Pescaruzzia - A region out in Alternia's countryside, known for its large green fields and warm Mediterranean climate. It is home to many vineyards and orchards, as the weather and soil quality is perfect for agricultural endeavours. It is not uncommon for residents of this region to sell their wares at farmers markers, or export them in bulk to nearby towns. Based on the Abruzzo region, South Italy. ↳ Known residents: Zotick Aureio, Astera Ringoh, Rosato Sekaan
Phosphor Forest - A phosphorous mine that was abandoned thousands of sweeps ago and has been long since reclaimed by nature, growing into a lush forest. DESCENDANTS RANT!!!!
In other news, after exploring the Anti Bal and Bevie hashtags on here and revisiting how Mal was pre-D1 (“Isle of The Lost” book), I am now a Bevie shipper and I feel like Evie should’ve been leader of the Core Four
or Terrific Three if Mal decided to stay on the Isle indefinitely and opted out of accountability and therapy.
Whoever said that Mal should’ve just traveled for a little bit, I agree: Mal should’ve pulled an Uma in the middle of D2 and went on a journey of self-discovery. She could’ve dropped the pressure, the lies, the mistrust, and the fear that she built all of her relationships on, essentially did her own version of therapy, freed herself from the mental, emotional, and psychological influence of Maleficent, and really got right with herself in order to get right with everyone around her and take righting her wrongs seriously as the first step of EARNING the trust of the people she cares about. Like, let’s not get it twisted: Maleficent II was top dog BULLY of the Isle! Having read the first book in the series, I do remember that it is canon that she emotionally and physically abused Carlos and Evie, she got Evie and Grimhilde banished for 10 years, and I’m pretty sure Jay was only her friend out of fear that Mal could and would sic Maleficent on him and Jafar the same way she did Evie and EQ. He ain’t have time for that! He was really only her friend out of self preservation. That being said, if either of the Core 4 VK girlies had to end up with Prince Ben, it should’ve been Evie.
Unlike Mal, Evie was actually raised by EQ to not only be a villain, but to also be a princess and later on a queen. I dare say her upbringing was similar to Audrey’s. The difference between the two is, that Evie was humbled early in life by growing up destitute on a crime-ridden island where no one cared who you were and what your title is. Everyone is broke, hungry, and fighting for resources. Audrey grew up having, wanting for nothing, spoiled. She’s used to things going her way. Irdk how attentive and straightforward Book!Ben is because, while I haven’t read past the first book yet, I have seen all of the movies and he didn’t seem to realize how rude Audrey really was to people. However, Book!Ben did let us know that he wasn’t feeling her like that and Movie!Ben used Mal spelling him as a way to break up with her
instead of just telling her to her face how he really felt. This would’ve given them the clean break up that they both deserved. They might’ve remained friends after that or stopped being friends totally until she got her attitude in check (the way she made Jane feel even more insecure about herself was foul). In contrast, after goodness classes (therapy) and unlearning certain Isle social behaviors either the easy way or the hard way, Evie made genuine connections with people and the bond between her and the other C4 members grew stronger because she was kind to and respected everyone. So much so, that she worked her way up to being Ben’s Royal Advisor and opened her own boutique
where everyone was going for outfits! Like, she literally and effortlessly became everything that they wanted Mal to evolve into, but she really couldn’t rise to the challenge because everything was always about HER and what SHE wanted.
Lastly, Evie is just as much witch as Mal or even Uma! I would’ve loved to see her do some major mirror sorcery (portals, beauty, etc.).
P.S. Evie, Uma, and Audrey def would’ve gotten along off the strength of them all being Mal’s victims at one point in time.👑

for the character thing, the outsider?
🙏🙏🙏 thank you so much, and a please accept my preemptive apology for the essay this will probably become...
How I feel about this character: I was saving this one for last from the batch of asks I got for this game, because the Outsider is my specialest boy of all time đŸ„č I played D1 and was like, 'oooh how fun and sexy, a mysterious Void god!' but then D2 happened with the whole Omelas-ass reveal and my brain melted like a caterpillar in its chrysalis into a soup of sadness and suffering from which the beautiful butterfly of my borderline-unhealthy obsession with the Outsider emerged. You can't just give me a character who's a metaphor for isolation, expulsion, and profound loneliness, and not expect me to pick him up and put him in my pocket forever. Do I project onto him? Over-identify, even? Yeah, shut up, so whaaaaaat? Aren't all of us trapped in a Void of our own, really? Who here hasn't been forever altered by the cruelty of others? And who among us isn't constantly sticking their fingers in the pie of life, poking around in there, hoping against hope to find some glimmer of goodness and hope and joy? Who isn't sick of all this shit and just wants to rest?? Ha ha as you can see I'm totally normal about him.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Just Corvo. He fascinates the Outsider, he surprises him, he's the catalyst for the kind of moments the Outsider says he waits for (this is, crucially, a line you only get from him after the low chaos Burrows elimination). I think the Outsider's been searching for someone who won't disappoint him for such a long time, someone he could give a piece of himself to who won't turn around and do something terrible with it. Like.... Come on! That's it, for me. To love is to give yourself away a little bit, to be surprised when the person who receives that gift treats it with the seriousness and consideration it deserves. And that's Corvosider đŸ–€đŸ–€đŸ–€
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Billie's whole journey to find him, and the understanding she comes to about him means so much to me.... 100% they become friends post-DotO. Letting him live is her way of letting herself live, to put her past behind her and prove to herself, once and for all, that she's more than a killer. And for the Outsider, she's the one person who could best understand the truth of what he is, how he was made into what he is, because in a way she's had the same done to her. The world fucked them both over so hard and forced them into these untenable positions that caused them both so much pain.... Oh god I have to stop thinking about this. They're best bros for life, next question!
My unpopular opinion about this character: I definitely prefer D2 Outsider over D1. I know ppl were very invested into the whole whale god thing, but his human sacrifice backstory was what really did it for me. Plus I love the way Robin Lord Taylor voiced him - the Hollows speeches in DotO make me so fucking emotional... He does a great job of going from bitchy to breathily earnest, and the emotional whiplash that gives me is very fun. Plus the way he scrunches his nose a little sometimes! Aaaaaa D2 Outsider my favorite son!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Obviously I really really really wanted to see what he would get up to after he became human again, cause uh, I wrote a novel about it lol.... But one thing I really wanted to see, that I didn't even do myself, was for the Outsider to go meet Sokolov, finally, as a mortal. I think that would be such great closure for both of them: for Sokolov to see indisputable proof that the power he was chasing was terrible and cruel (something he realized for himself in his final years, but meeting the Outsider would have driven this home beautifully), and for the Outsider to conclusively put away his old fickle relationship with humanity. For both of them to see each other as human beings, to really understand how fucked up the way they related to each other was. I'd love that!
