Hello to start with I was concerned about where u went but then realised oh new username excellent crisis averted...

ALSO the main reason I'm in ur inbox is I need a little shitty steve characterisation vent so here goes:

I keep coming across (accidentally) those characterisations of steve (in steddie context) where he's like "i love to be subby and give up control bc I've always had to be in control and it's a relief to take a break from this." And like. canonically steve is the one whose autonomy is always the most hijacked like he's just dragged along with the major plot decisions everyone else makes - i remember a beautiful piece of meta i read a while back that summarised its point in a line like "steve hasn't made a single decision for himself since he chose to go back in the byers house in s1."

Also i believe you've discussed a bunch in the past (or one of your mutuals did?) that he is very much a take charge kind of guy, taking as an example all the russian base shenanagins and his role in those.

And that plus societal/peer/parental pressure (particularly during 'king steve time') to be a certain kind of guy and live a certain way makes me think in fact he would be the complete OPPOSITE??? In regards to needing to give up control if anything I think he'd want to take it back (both in a life decisions and potentially in Sexy Situations kind of way).

Optional extra point that i change my mind on back and forth, in the particular context of steddie I'd almost put eddie (if you had to place them into this specific d/s retaking/giving up control dynamic which you absolutely don't have to) into that characterisation of feeling relief in not having to be in control, as he's the one always having to constantly push back against society and assert his "freakishness."

Long rant over, thank you for always being the blog I can click onto and scroll if I want to read a salty accurate take about fandom characterisations!!

oh i love that line! yeah, i think it’s really interesting how steve has increasingly not had any control over the direction that his life is going in. he’s a character that is very much so at the mercy of others. like, thinking about the last two seasons, he was tied up and beaten, then strangled and eaten. even looking at the very way that he’s getting injured, it’s all something that he couldn’t fight against!

getting back on topic tho, yeah, i really dislike the super subby idea of steve that is incredibly pervasive throughout the steddie fandom. it just feels so out of character. like, obviously sexual preferences don’t necessarily have to align with a persons personality, but they just really aren’t writing about steve anymore.

yeah no i agree, steve has admitted that he went along with shit in high school because he wanted to be perceived a certain way, so i think it would make more sense that he would want to take that control back in any way he could, be himself in a way he couldn’t before. also. not to get crass, but steve just seems like someone that really enjoys giving, even in the bedroom. like, he wants to make sure the other person is having a good time. and so, i think it makes sense that he would want at least a little control over that.

yeah, i do not think d/s dynamics make sense for steddie’s relationship, and i think it’s kinda weird that people feel the need to make their sex very restrictive and kinky. but also i agree that i think it makes more sense for eddie to be… the not in control one. i also think eddie would like the feeling of being desired. like, eddie is an outcast, he’s a freak, even if he’s welcomed that role. i think he would definitely enjoy king steve being the one, kind of, reaching out and going after him, in that way.

but yeah, i do not like subby steve, and i think it’s weird the extent to which people have decided that steddie’s sex life has to involve kinks that often directly contradict their characters. obviously, enjoy what you enjoy and have fun writing smut, i just do not like it.

heyy, i read your ISAT fic 'hard to forget, hard to remember' today and i really liked it!! i was just wondering since it stood out to me, but in chapter 3, there's this moment with the croissants and in the fic, Siffrin remembers the burnt taste of charcoal, referring to that moment in the game where they tell the party that they hate croissants cause he ate a burnt one once. but since it's later revealed that (in a missable moment) that that wasn't the real reason he hates croissants, i was reading it and thinking '...do they know?' especially cause it's a missable moment.

so if you do know and just forgot or just didn't want to put it in your fic, then just ignore me haha, but if you really missed it, i do recommend looking it up or playing it again, cause triggering that specific croissant backstory unlocks the true epilogue with Loop so i think it'd really be a shame if you missed out on that! anyway, really liked your fic, keep it up :D

I didn't see it actually! I was debating looking it up but just hadn't gotten to it yet, though I do know about the Loop epilogue. I've played a lot of RPG maker games, so my playthrough was very streamlined "how do I do the next thing" haha. I think the only optional stuff I triggered was...come to think of it, not entirely sure? I mentioned (by proxy) that I only needed 50 loops or so to beat the game, and that doesn't leave a ton of room for shenanagins, haha.

Thank you! The Amy brainrot is strong, so we're gonna talk about her, specifically her relationship with Garmadon, her father in law (they also had a good relationship before she and Lloyd got together).

Considering it's my birthday, I daydreamed a little Ninjago short where post-Crystalized, it's Lloyd's birthday and silly shenanagins ensue. (I also imagine Garmadon to be in human form but with some Oni features and he can shapeshift them away when he wants)

So it's Lloyd's birthday, and while he goes to spend some of the day with his mom, Amy and Garmadon stay home to make Lloyd's birthday cake and wrap his presents. (This is about a year after Crystalized where Amy is mostly healed from her injuries)

The presents get wrapped without any issues, and then it's time to make the cake. Of course, baking the cake is a disaster that blows up in their faces. The thought of an ex-assassin (Amy) and ex-warlord (Garm) being terrible at cooking is hilarious to me, because even between the two of them they can't make a single, simple cake.

The two of them, staying calm, say "Ok, fine, we'll just go buy a cake. Cake is cake."

They go into the city, buy a delicious and great looking cake and start to make their way home.

Then, akin to Miles at the beginning of Across the Spider-verse, it's like the Cloud Kingdom really doesn't want them to get home with this damn cake. Obstacles like bad guys, small apocalyptic events, or roads being blocked keep popping up, and they have to get past them without squashing the cake.

Finally they get home, covered in dirt and with leaves in their hair and shit.

The cake is a little banged up and sad looking from being thrown around, but after seeing the state these two are in and the disaster in the kitchen, Lloyd can't help but laugh, and knows that it was the effort that really mattered.

Plus, the cake tastes much better than it looks.

Thanks for the opportunity to ramble! Also it took me a bit to pick and OC and what I was going to talk about, which is why this was answered a day after my birthday :D.

TBH if I make you cry then my job here is done :D Like it's always good to hear that something made someone laugh, but it hits different when someone tells me they cried, especially since people can cry for hundreds of different reasons, not just because something is sad!

65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

Is it too broad to say Thalionel's entire arc in Beneath a Boundless Sky? Especially the mid-fic arc. There's some crazy shenanagins that he's going to get up to and a bit of therapy camping with grandpa Maglor and I can't wait to get there, tbh. It's really a coming-of-age sort of tale for him and I love writing that sort of thing.

Oh, that and the twins finally getting to Frumgar's court and buddying up with Fram :D The political mess I have planned is going to be a treat to get to, as well as some good old fashioned monster hunting.

D&D sessions 8&9 - No pudding before bed

So, I forgot to do this last fortnight but we just finished for the weekend and I figured it was better to do them both at the same time. For everyone who couldn’t be arsed finding the previous post from a month ago, the group were sent to look into a sickness that had been affecting townsfolk. We had stumbled upon an Orc priest who seemed to be the origin of the disease and after a brief bout of murder we ended up in the main city in the kingdom to speak with the ruling council and their resident seer. We were pointed towards a ruined outpost to the north that hadn’t been visited for several years. Making our way there we found what looked like an entrance to an underground bunker and decided to make camp for the night in a nearby building. 

After an uneventful rest, we make our way down into the bunker to find a bit of a corridor and a single door. After our rogue (Lerisa) did her roguey thing and confirmed there was no traps and before anything else, our Paladin ( Drackuss) tries and fails to kick down and my cleric sighs, opens the door, turns to stare at the paladin before going to close it, locking eyes with the Orc inside and trying to close the door without a word ... but the paladin stopped me and everyone bursts in to fight!  We take out the first orc pretty quickly and manage to take out a second as he’s screaming for backup. While our barbarian (Merla), our Fighter (Olgum) and my Cleric (Eridol) posted up at the door as an additional 3 orcs rush us, Drackuss and Lerisa wandered off down a corridor, set off a fire trap, explore a bit of a cavern and Drackuss falls into a spike trap. After the rest of us dealt with the orcs and cleaned up the scene so it wasn’t an obvious blood bath we found what looked like a secret passage before putting the bodies to bed so it’d just look like they were sleeping and went looking for Lerisa and Drackuss. We ... may have fallen into the same fire trap as them before finding them in the cavern. Eridol puts it to the team that we should check the secret passage because it either gives us back a hint of surprise moving forward or it removed the chance of being flanked. We put it to a vote and it’s decided to go back and check on the secret tunnel. While we’re looking for the switch to open it, Drackuss rips the bookcase off the wall while Eridol looks mortified in the background. We all check out the secret passage and after Lerisa gives us the ok for no traps, we wander down to a hidden supply room with three chests. Lerisa busts one open and gets a face of poison as a result, once it’s cleared she finds a sack of gold and a sack of silver, the gold goes into the party funds and she pockets the silver for herself while no one was looking. We bust open another chest and find nothing and Olgum decides to open the last one and well ... it wasn’t really a chest. Surprise, it’s a mimic and how it’s eating our fighter. While the half of the group in the room tries to deal with that, Lerisa runs into the centre and has a darkmantle fall from the roof and starts suffocating her. After a nat 20 strength check, she rips that sucker off her head and the fight begins proper. After a few rounds, We end up with a dead mimic, a bisected dark mantle, an Olgum at 1hit point and an unconscious Lerisa and Merla. They get brought back up and we decide to take a nap in the bunk room the orcs were using. After setting up a very basic alarm and barricade it’s time for another long rest. We end the session there and pick up today, having been informed that the player for Lerisa is taking a maybe permanent hiatus while she sorts some stuff out. So, until we can get back to town I’m running my boy Eridol and Lerisa.  Towards the end of our rest, the alarm goes off and we’re attacked by some orcs and kobolds. After a brief battle involving Merla using an orc like a meat puppet,   skunks and explosions, we move further into the dungeon to a store room of sorts where we find a lizardfolk monk named Achuak who was on a mission from the god of murder to build a shield. A shield specifically for Olgum. A shield that had been taken when he was thrown into a barrel to rot. We burst into a throne room of sorts where everybody is waiting for us. After taking out some shit lizard kobolds, the Orog chief wanders into the fray and Lerisa gets knocked the heck out and fails 2 death saving throws. While a bugbear who was holding his action smashed a button and part of the floor opened up to a super go happy fun slide to doom which Drackuss and Eridol nearly fell into. After Olgum and Drackuss kneecapped the Orog the corpse fell down the slide and took the fancy Bhall shield with it and the bugbear gets his throat ripped out thanks to Achuak, Merla jumped down the slide once we tied a rope to her and after about 80 feet of dips, dives and corkscrews there’s a brief 20 foot drop to a totally normal bone pit the locals described as the pudding pit. We all make our way down to the bone pit to retrieve the shield and get attacked by several skeletons and a gelatinous cube which sucks Merla and Olgum in it. After they barely escaped, one of the skeletons knocks Lerisa into the cube and she goes down again. Olgum ripped her out after a round and she gets brought back from the brink for a second time in about 5 minutes. Being severely rattled, she books it back up the rope and about 40 feet back up the slide. After a few more rounds, the cube goes down and we begin picking off the skeletons with Lerisa coming back and getting the final blow. Once they’re taken down, we all gather up in a platform for a short rest and Achuak mentions the shield needs one final component, the blood of a dragon who is just ahead. Considering our last run in with a dragon ended with Eridol being a chew toy, we all stop for a drink as Drackuss pulled out some dope arse wine, after a few drinks he drunkdials our NPC guide, Core before using the one use, emergency teleport function of the sending stones we had to bring Core directly to us. Admittedly he was half naked at the time and without most of his supplies, but at least he’s here for the fun times next session.

GAHHH that is so sweet, thank you so much! honestly seeing the few tags and comments saying wb is really nice - I didnt leave tumblr cuz i disliked it, but because my dash slowed to a halt (and also all my stuff got tagged in that first poor rollout of the auto-censor lol ) . I gotta say its nice to be back.

TEGAKIE back in the day haha, its neat you were on there too! i've met a few people through there that i'm still pals with ! ( im looking at you especially miss @khepdraws ) , its been really neat to see artists entering various careers. Gotta say tho - the silly OC stuff doesnt go away for a lot of us (nor should it) , gotta work hard so you can go home and draw OC shenanagins :D

DM: Ok so you don't even get uo the trer, fall back, and hit your head on a root. You now have a concussion AND a broken arm.

DM: You don't even get a few inches before tripping on a root and breaking your nose. The monster does not notice you.

Hey here’s an update on this blue tat man

I have made more designs for the medieval fantasy au thingy, the King and (most of) her court (I haven't designed Joe yet but I'll get there)

Bdubs is in charge of the cavalry (he just trains the military to ride horses), he's very fond of horses and he's part fae. I don't really have many major design notes for him, though I don't think his cloak is actually made of moss. At some point, he was cursed by some far stronger fae, but he's not cursed anymore (for reasons).

Next is the Immortal (and Undead) King Cleo (or Queen but I figure since they're the King of Hermitcraft I'm just gonna say King lol). I wanted Cleo to look kind of royal without wearing red, so I went with a purple cloak instead. She's also dressed very functionally, because when you're ruling a town where shenanagins occur on a fairly regular basis, it's important to be able to go out and be comfortable while ensuring the safety of your subjects. (Also, note of Cleo's undead status- they were necromancied back to life by her Royal Wizard, BigB, which she's very glad for, and no one seems to have noticed yet).

Ren is in charge of training the knights and leading them to battle in the event of a major diplomatic disaster. He's very good at his job. He's entirely human, but he's also a werewolf. He doesn't transform, however, again thanks to the Royal Wizard who gave him a pendant that keeps him from transforming at the full moon so long as he wears it. No major design notes other than I like how his hair turned out and I wanted his color palette to be simple.

Finally, we of course have BigB, the Royal Wizard, practiced in all major types of magic and several lesser known ones. He has quite a bit of magical power but tends to prefer not using it for things of major consequence except as a last resort. I gave him a halo of glowy bits around his head because I didn't want to give him a wizard hat but I wanted him to have something going on there.

I have one other court member to design, Joe (court jester by day, diplomatic genius by night) and then several more designs but I hope y'all like these ones and have good day :D
