You know, as a D&D nerd and Re: Zero fan, I find Regulus to be kind of fascinating, since he's a Chaotic Evil character who pretends to be Lawful Evil. What I mean is, he puts on a facade of having a code he abides by, with all his ranting and rambling about his rights and how people shouldn't have their rights violated, but only applies these idea to himself. Plus, he'll turn any action that slights him into a violation of his rights to use an an excuse to kill someone.

Link is literally just a CG Paladin who didn't know his best friend/girlfriend was a goddess when he swore an oath of eternal devotion to her, and now they and their arch enemy are stuck in a cycle of constant reincarnation that's only purpose seems to be testing to see just how eternal his devotion to Zelda is...

You know another irl job that would work for Gale aside professor? Detective. I don't know, something about that really suits him. If you want to share how you would picture it then please share!
Have a good day!
I had to give this some thought honestly, and at first, I was inclined to disagree simply because of his alignment (According to the Gale Dekarios Wiki, the game says he's true neutral).
Just in case, spoilers for Gale's storyline are ahead.
Mira's Maunderings: I DISAGREE with him being true neutral because his in-game interactions point to him being a more neutral good character alignment. Depending on how you play him, however, you could possibly sway him, but he needs A LOT of convincing (Persuasion checks) to do stuff that isn't inherently *good*. If we are talking about God!Gale though, he is most certainly true neutral because he simply doesn't interfere. He merely exists, and as long as one has the drive and ambition to do what they set their hearts out to do, he supports it regardless of whether or not they are good or evil (yet he still does not get involved because that's not what he does or wants to do.)
One could argue that is desperate times, he is willing to do something morally grey, but that's where the neutrality comes in. But that's a whole long ass topic I really don't wanna dive into rn (b/c I'm lazy and tired, and honestly, it's been discussed by others before and far more eloquently than I could ever convey).
So, *IF* we are to throw the canon alignment out the window and go by the assumption that he's neutral good, I think him being a detective would be a solid choice. Why? Because deep down, he's a good person, and just wants to see people happy and safe. Knowing he could play a part in that goal would fill him with satisfaction and even validation. I see the "morally grey" neutrality coming into play when it comes to matters of lawfulness.
Let's say, in a situation where there was a victim who endured a horrific crime (I'm talking some dark shit that i won't outline...use your imaginations,) and the criminal was caught (and it was known beyond a shadow of a doubt that this person was, indeed, the criminal,) Gale would be inclined to 'turn the other cheek' if it meant justice for that person would be served better outside of the legal system. A little tweak of paperwork here and there and make it look like a freak accident or literally anything else. Perhaps enough to raise an eyebrow of suspicion from his colleagues, but not enough for them to care otherwise because at the end of the day, justice was served. (This is only one example, but hopefully you see what I am going for here).
If he were lawful neutral the extent of his lawful nature wouldn't necessarily be good. it could be, but it could also be evil. If he were lawful good, that criminal would be caught and sent to face justice "the correct" way, and be hauled off to jail for the legal system to deal with as the laws of the land intended. Whether or not true justice for the victim(s) actually gets served wouldn't be up to him to decide.
If we look at Gale as true neutral (as is canon,) I really think this could have the capacity to take him down the road of "dirty cop" material. (arguably, so could lawful neutral, but i'm going with his canon stuff rn so go with me on this journey if you would.)
A true neutral detective Gale would likely be someone who is so disenfranchised with his profession, and would probably quit if it didn't afford him some liberties that a badge comes with. Maybe he was good once, and truly believed in the system at large. Over time, just becomes jaded, perhaps overworked, and under appreciated for his efforts. But, he'd have a pension, and stability. It's sensible, albeit a little dangerous at times. Still, it's not a pleasant lifestyle. Perhaps he's alone, just barely above paycheck to paycheck. Maybe he's suffered from permanent compassion fatigue among other things. He becomes more aloof.
I think if an opportunity opened up to him for him to get in on something a bit nefarious, or he accidentally got swept up in a case that now he simply knows too much, he might hate it at first. Hate himself for what he's become, but logically, he knows there's no way out of it that doesn't end his life with a period. (if you know what I mean). Then again, he could decide to take a position of power because he thinks he can do better and get corrupted in the process.
Imho, this is kinda how we end up with God!Gale because he is so done with gods and their ways. How they meddle with people and use them as play things.
His superiors and the local government play bureaucratic games instead of focusing on actually helping people, or making their jobs better. He grows tired of it, just as in-game Gale grows tired of the Gods, and decides to take matters into his own hands thinking he can do better. In the end, he would be no better than them (if not arguably worse).
idk, i went on a huge alignment tangent, and i fear i didn't totally answer your question, but this is what my brain did to me since you sent this, Anon so...suffer with me lmao.
Thanks for this ask though! This was a fun consideration, and of course if anyone has anything to add please share your thoughts! I'd love to hear them!

D&D Moral alignment and Adventurer Picrew Tag Game
I've been tagged by the wonderful @mary-is-writing! Thanks for the tag!
I think the rules are to do the d&d alignment test and make yourself as a D&D adventurer with the picrew.
But first, the no pressure tags! I'll be tagging @space-writes, @loopyhoopywrites, @cat-esper, @deanwax, and open tag!
Now, let's see those test results and that picrew!

I got neutral good! Surprisingly less chaotic than I thought I would be.
I'd probably be a halfing wizard who has taken a few levels of ranger that researches the other planes.

HPHM MC PERSONALITY ASKS
Does anyone else think it’s fun to take personality tests and inventories as their MC? Here’s a bunch of them. Please note that some are not the official version, but they should be free and accessible. I wager they’re accurate enough. Also, some tests may take a while, but don’t take it too seriously!
And yes, I am a psychology major…

I've been told I'm Chaotic neutral.
Now that we're here, please donate if you can to @ahmed-fathi-gaza and help evacuate them from Gaza to Egypt. Ahmed has lived through several wars and now suffers living in a tent with his twenty family members of mostly young children during a genocide that's lasted a whole year.
They have currently raised €21,141 raised of their €80,000 goal and are vetted by @90-ghost. Even as little as 10 dollars can be the difference between life and death.
If you can't donate, at least read and share their story. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Note
Lawful evil types aren't necessarily more ethical or moral than neutral and chaotic evil and they can be as evil as their other counterparts, right? Iirc lawful evil types are concerned with their own lawful system/order and self interest, esp if said order comes at the expense of others, right?
NOTE: This is a follow-up to this ask.
Right on the first part, but I'm not so sure the second part is right. I'm going off of the descriptions I read online on Wikis like here and here. Based on those, I think Natsumi - when we see her in DR3 - is primarly selfish in desire and willing to hurt anyone to get what she wants, but she doesn't have any grand design that's at the center of her goals.

The Nine Alignments Unexplained Using Near-Incomprehensible Metaphors
Lawful Good: The alignment of the average head of state if you ignore literally everything they've ever done, said, or believed.
Neutral Good: Imagine a small child, then get drunk until your head child is 50% an actual child and 50% your deep emotional hangups over having wasted your youth, then consider the trolley problem.
Chaotic Good: Whatever moral advice the reanimated skeleton of Tony Hawk would give you between kick flips and rap battles.
Lawful Neutral: This one's easy, this is the alignment your spleen has.
True Neutral: Release an angry bear into a philosophy seminar, whichever side wins the subsequent spirited debate is True Neutral
Chaotic Neutral: Like if that weird carpet pattern that only existed in early 90s bowling alleys was capable of complex ethical stances.
Lawful Evil: What would happen if you taped a knife to the King of England
Neutral Evil: If the color gray felt emotions this would be the ethical nature of all its emotions
Chaotic Evil: You know how people used to think bad luck was caused by mischievous goblins? Like that if instead of "bad luck" it was "esoteric metaphysical arguments on the nature of existence"
I hope this antihelps!

That said, the D&D 3.5 Paladin was bad. It was badly designed, it had bad rules, and in conjunction with the other notoriously bad rule, alignment, it could cause havoc.
Now personally, I never had ANY problems with it in my tabletop games. I played paladins and loved it, and I loved it when other people played paladins, and it was great. But that's because, collectively as a group, we took ONE look at that terrible rule where the paladin's code of conduct prevents them from associating with Evil characters or "someone who consistently offends her moral code", and immediately went, "that's stupid, we ain't doing that, it would ruin the game".
We also didn't love the concept of alignment as a cosmic force, and didn't care for Usually Evil Goblins and Always Evil anything. And when a class's signature ability fully depends on whether creatures are capital E Evil, well that affects storytelling, doesn't it? But we all saw it the same way, and we were happily able to change it without any disagreements. In the end we had a Paladin… similar to 5e now that I think of it: completely ignore the Code's association clause, tailor the Code to personal stance or a specific Order, Detect only fiends and undead and the like, Smite anything you want, Fall only if you really fuck up, and never presume that just because you haven't Fallen yet everything you've ever done is justified and correct and anyone who disagrees with you is objectively wrong.
Basically, there were 2 options in 3.5. You either houseruled and/or handwaved things, and in matters of alignment interpretations erred on the side of "what makes the game go",
OR, you played with Rules As Written, and filled the forums with questions like "should the paladin fall?" (one such thread per week, conservatively), "we got into a fight over the Paladin, what to do?", "is it Evil to pick pockets? because we have a Paladin in the party", "the Assassin uses poison, shouldn't that offend my moral code?", and shit like that. Just... pointless strife, all the time. Again, never happened to me, but I was appalled to read about it, over and over and over.
People got intense with 3.5 Paladins (both pro and against) because it was BADLY DESIGNED and had BAD RULES. Its mechanics forced narrative choices on the entire table, and the only way to make it frictionless was having a party where no one wishes to explore a character's bad side ever, no one does things that aren't bad but WotC branded Evil™ in this or that splatbook, and everyone magically agrees all the time on "what is right and what is wrong" and "what is Lawful and what is Chaotic", which is simply impossible. The most subjective thing in the world (ethics!) was presented as an objective cosmic force, and how you interpreted it would determine how much damage the Paladin deals in combat, and whether the Paladin could keep associating with the party, and if the Paladin is still a Paladin. And all that in a game, let's not forget, whose basic, fundamental premise is "kill things and take their stuff". I'm sorry, this is tremendously stupid. It's the WORST design.
I know that for some people it worked as written, and good for them, but for the many many people it didn't work, well it's obvious why.

Chaotic Responsible or Neutral Soft
Types of Writers as D&D Alignment
Lawful Responsible: probably got a publishing deal - takes nice photos - never responds to DMS - business
Neutral Responsible: has a very set schedule to write - won NaNoWriMo - journals > laptops - organized
Chaotic Responsible: good at drawing but prefers writing - writes music as well - never focuses on one project at a time and that's ok - moms friend
Lawful Soft: inspirational quotes - runs a book account as well - likes to post about their cat a lot - very encouraging
Neutral Soft: aesthetic - tea - mood boards - leather bound fancy journals - good handwriting
Chaotic Soft: posts mood boards to procrastinate writing - doesn't follow their own advice - reads your work but forgets to tell you -likes to write coffee shop au's or other fluffy romances
Lawful Disaster: gives good writing advice but says some variant of f*** 50 times to explain it - smart 'texts you at 4am to ramble about world building -probably writes fan fic
Neutral Disaster: never texts with proper grammar - most likely a college student - writes at 4am and is unable to write at any other time - coffee with too much sugar
Chaotic Disaster: word count = 0 - they look like they're about to collapse at any moment - hoodies - energy drinks and death
I actually cant tell which one I am, Can you?
