What's all this then?

Empiropedia is a zine focused on Season 1 of Empires SMP and its worldbuilding. The zine will be structured, as the name suggests, a bit like an encyclopedia! It will be an in-universe collection of historical records from the various empires and it will feature both writing and illustrations. The zne will also be completely free!

What can I expect if I get in?

If you get into the zine you will be assigned one (or potentially more, depending on what you answered in the form) empire and category to work on. This zine allows for a big variety of styles and techniques to be applied for both writers and artists, so if you've been looking to experiment a bit this might be the place for you!

Where do I find more info regarding the categories?

We have made three different posts with all the explanations for every category that's been included in the zine:

Can I apply if I don't have drawn/written anything Empires-related before?

Feel free to apply, but without at least one Empires SMP related piece there's a lower chance you will get into the zine.

Can I apply if I've never watched Empires SMP?

As previously stated, this zine focuses heavily on worldbuilding, so it requires at least basic knowledge of the lore of whatever empire you apply to. If you think that you possess said knowledge even without having watched any of the POVs feel free to apply, but we will most likely be favouring people who did watch the series.

So I’ve decided to do something a little fun (and autistic) and rewatch the entire Life Series, all POV’s, all seasons, every single episode, and make a drawing based on the first episode, then make a drawing based on the last episode.

Jimmy was a POV I had actually never watched before, I wasn't sure if I would be a fan of his editing style, and I had watched Scott previously, so I had figured I had seen most of what actually happened to him. This was, definitely a lie.

Jimmy was super fun to watch, his commentary made it extremely fun and the small things you get to see, like his escapade with the cows, chick chance, and his perspective of everything happening was genuinely super cool and I found myself super drawn to his humour and jokes. His character just being this sort of "act before thinking" guy makes him really endearing and the realization of his actions is super relatable.

It's super fun to know of future relationships he will have with the people he doesn't really know well and see him talking to them for the first time. I will mention this a lot, sue me, its fun.

I love his upbeat act throughout the entire game, even if it is a scary situation, he never seems to stop having a great time, and I love that about him

I’m a first-year college student. This account is entirely separate from my main tumblr account which is why I only occasionally stop by to upload whatever fic I’ve written recently. My favourite books include The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, Heartless by Marissa Meyer (nothing too revolutionary but a riveting, well-paced book to get you out of a reading slump!) and Everyone I Know is Dying by Emily Slapper

My favourite comfort/self-indulgent authors are Cathy Cassidy (from when I was like 11, I think it’s half nostalgia but she really is an excellent underrated writer) and Meg Cabot

🐾 Next strange thing happened, when you Shine the Marble for Ranpo. For this week it was a Campaign "10 shines for one click". The Marble Turned prismatic, and you exchange it for SSR Scout Ticket. Well, for a few SSR Tickets. You got lucky again and win "Detective Chance". A familiar phrase appeared in a text box near Ranpo's chibi:

"Great Job, [Y/N]! You deserve a little bonus! Let's collect more cool marbles later!"

🐾 Aya, Rimbaud, Flags, Adam, Verlaine, Karma, Katai, Oda's orphans, Pushkin, Goncharov, Oguri, Gogol, Sigma, Tetchou, Teruko, Fukuchi, Jounou and Bram didn't have any cards on any server. And Tachihara didn't have a Hunting Dogs version of his card.

🐾 There were never Junchirou's menu with daily recipes. Or Katai's menu with tips for keeping your phone safe. Or Mori's with fashion tips.

🐾 Players could choose any nicknames, not their real names.

🐾 Either you get a special version of an app... Or... Characters were... But, it's impossible, right?

"I love BSD for using small Easter eggs for people, who liked literature. But, I wish, they would do it more often. For example, real-life Junchirou Tanizaki and Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald were friends! They even play shogi together. And in BSD Tanizaki and Francis are barely interacting with each other."

After you finish talking with your friend, Ango immediately rushed to get the camera, and Junchirou and Francis start to set a scene. Tomorrow you will get a card you want! Card, that reflects their other world counterparts.

[Next Day]

"Oh! SSR card with Fitzgerald and Junchirou playing shogi? And it's called "Old friends"? Good... So Devs knew about that... story..."

Your voice sounded... Off. And Little Light trembled for some reason.

"Story, that I made up two days ago to test my theory. You... All of you can hear me, right?"

BSD Cast feel, like they were struck by lightning. They wanted to make a surprise to you and reveal, that they are self-aware, only when they got into your world.... Well, doesn't matter, they could try to speak to you, now...

Why are you crying? Who have hurt you?

Your voice were pleading. You sobbed.

"I am sorry! I am sorry for not realizing it sooner! I am sorry for every hit you got, when marble hit spikes or poison, or when enemies hit you! I am sorry, for reading about your lives, for learning your secrets without permission! For... Making you relive your lives... And for... Hurting you... Killing you..."

At the end, you were hysterical. You were the reason for Rimbaud's, Flags', Oda's, his kids', Gide's and Shibusawa's death. You were the reason, they got hurt. You howl, remembering that time, Kunikida lost his arms.

"I am sorry! I am sorry! I am so sorry!"

BSD Cast were in distress. You misunderstood the situation! They weren't angry! They liked you and will never hate you!

But with next words their world shatter.

"I... I won't read about your lives anymore. Or watch about it... I... won't play the game anymore... I won't delete it, because I am not sure, if this won't hurt you... I am sorry!"

You close the app.

Little Light fall on a floor, sobbing.

After some thinking, you opened the app.

You were chatting for a long time. You asked about how they became self-aware, what were happening, when you read new chapters. You asked about deceased ones, whose cards you got (you have never been happier in your life, after learning, that they were alive. Because of you). You asked if they felt pain, when they loose HP in game.

And BSD Gang asked you about your life, your interest, if they can add something else in the app that you need.

And about wanting to get into your world. About wanting to live in reality. And be your friends.

You have a feeling, that it was a beginning of something unique.

Dev. update for Pt. 2

Hey all!

Hope you enjoyed the CT:OS update (Pt. 1)!

I'm back home from my trip, which means I've gone back to writing and editing in preparation for Pt. 2!

As Pt. 1 was a little delayed, and I didn't do much writing or editing while on holiday, Pt. 2 release will likely be closer to the end of the month / next month, but I'll firm up the release dates closer to when I've gotten everything written and have sent it out for beta-testing.

Good news though, is that because I'm pushing back the dates a bit, I'm aiming to add some extra content that I hadn't planned to fit into pt. 2... which means you'll all definitely get the Sam kiss you've been waiting for ;)

For now, here are the tentative release dates:

Beta-testers: 28 Oct Early-release: 4 Nov Public release: 11 or 18 Nov

Lastly, I'll push out an edited version of CT:OS to the public demo around the same time that I release Pt. 2 to beta-testers, so if there are errors or bugs from Pt. 1 that you think I haven't quite fixed yet, do let me know.

No. 11 pick in 2024 NHL Draft 'just wants to be the best that he can be'

Sam Dickinson certainly had a solid season in 2023-24, finishing fourth among OHL defensemen in scoring and helping London reach the Memorial Cup championship game.

But he also had to deal with the pressure every player feels in his NHL draft season. But those feelings were alleviated when the San Jose Sharks selected him with the No. 11 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

A more relaxed Dickerson has his focus solely on playing, and the result has been a dominant start to the season.

Dickinson leads OHL defensemen in goals (13), assists (27) and points (40) in 23 games. He's tied for third in the league in scoring among all players, and is tied for the OHL lead with eight power-play goals.

"It's obviously a little bit of a different season, maybe a little more relaxed not having to worry about some of those [draft-related] things," Dickinson said. "But for me, it's always just been about focusing on hockey and kind of not really trying to let the outside noise and the outside stuff kind of get into my head.

"So I think that's been a big focus for this year, leaving the outside stuff for a different time, not worrying about it, especially when I'm showing up to the rink for practices, for games, whatever it may be. Just kind of leaving the outside noise, focusing on myself and on the team, and just kind of worrying about hockey and the London Knights and how I can help the team win as many games as possible."

Dickinson has done most of that with his offensive ability. He had 30 points (eight goals, 22 assists) during a 13-game point streak that ended Nov. 24. He has at least a point in 20 games, including a six-point game (one goal, five assists) in a 6-5 win at Saginaw on Nov. 23; it was the first six-point game by a defensemen since Pavel Mintyukov for Saginaw on March 11, 2022.

It also was one of Dickinson's 10 multipoint games, and he has two hat tricks.

But more than the offense, the Sharks have been impressed by other details in Dickinson's game.

"Obviously you want players to put up numbers and be successful," San Jose director of player development Todd Marchant said, "but it's some of the little things that we've been working on with Sam, with going back for pucks, on retrievals, shoulder checking and those sorts of things that you really need to have if you want to play in the National Hockey League."

Marchant and the Sharks development staff were able to but a plan in place for Dickinson earlier than other prospects because they were able to watch him last season.

"In a player development role you don't get a chance to see the players a lot usually in their draft year, but we did because we had another player in London in [forward] Kasper Halttunen," Marchant said. "So when he was available to us at No. 11, we were ecstatic. We were very, very happy."

Dickinson is just as happy to be part of what San Jose is building with a young core that includes forwards Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 pick of the 2024 draft, and Will Smith, the No. 4 pick of the 2023 NHL Draft. He got a preview during training camp, when he got into two preseason games, and is hungry to do what it takes to get even more as soon as next season.

"Getting in those preseason games and all that, it was an unbelievable experience, and kind of gave you a bit of a realization of really how close I could be to potentially playing in San Jose and in the NHL real soon," Dickinson said. "I think the big thing for me when I was getting in those games was taking everything in, seeing the speed, the strength, the physicality, how fast the game is played at that level. It was huge for me to kind of play at that speed and play at that level. A big thing for me was when I came back [to London] was continuing to play at the speed and at the level that was played in those preseason games."

The Sharks have seen that and more from Dickinson and are just as excited about his future.

"The National Hockey League has the best players in the world, and that's something that every young player strives to get to," Marchant said. "Sam is no different. You look at some of the things that he's able to do, both from an offensive standpoint and a defensive standpoint ... he's one of those guys that just wants to be the best that he can be every single night. And we're seeing that firsthand."

disclaimer beforehand, this list is continuing to grow as i have only just begun season 7 and may have missed some things (i am accepting advice and suggestions on episodes or details to include) also this goes without saying but this WILL include heavy spoilers

season 1: episode 2; buck gets sa/d by his therapist, not graphic, violent or later discussed but he still gets taken advantage of by someone in a position of power 

season 1: episodes 7&8; ex-husband perpetrator shows up at his ex-wifes moms house, later he murders her friend, and even later attacks the wife but the wife gets away safely. hen sleeps with her ex-wife, could be considered a reaction to extreme gaslighting or manipulation.

season 2: episode 1; maddies ex-husband (doug) threatens her over the phone. not particularly scary at first watch but after what happens later it brings bad connotations and could be triggering

season 2: episode 10; doug shows up at the last 5 minutes of the episode and stabs chimney, good to watch up until then essentially 

season 2: episode 11; maddie goes missing, chimney is in the hospital, i generally recommend skipping this one

season 2: episode 12; a good break from maddies assault but still discusses chimney being stabbed

season 2: episode 13; if you're have an issue with domestic violence, kidnapping, or assault skip. this. one.

season 3: episode 10; maddie has flashbacks but it's not the whole premise of the episode

season 3: episode 16; serial rapist on the loose, brief images of women being assulted

season 3: episode 17; again, about the serial rapist, i skipped most scenes with him in it but he assults athena

season 5: episodes 1, 2,3; the rapist is back, he murders a woman and licks athenas undergarments, he ends up kidnapping athenas son, generally recommended skipping this storyline if you skipped maddies. (also worth noting they unpack this series of events a significant amount in the season, with flashbacks and other things but usually referencing harry's kidnapping and not athenas abuse related trauma)

season 6: episode 4; one scene near the middle of the episode features a mother and daughter being threatened and kidnapped by the father. the mother gets injured but doesn't die. later in the episode maddie gets the girl and her mother help and they both end up fine, its actually kind of heartwarming

season 6: episode 11; freaking doug shows up again, in this alternate story maddie is still married to him and still being abused. buck tries to get her to leave and she doesn't.

season 7: episode 6; doug shows up a few too many times for my liking while chimney is confused. the first time he appears he discusses maddie having to stab him and even stabs chimney. later he shows up covered in blood. he shows up a third time after chimney saved people at the farmers market. a fourth after chimney wakes up on the floor of a garage of some sort and discusses abusing maddie.

season 7: episode 7; the episode begins with a woman named catherine calling 911 who cannot speak freely. catherine's husband intercepts the 911 call and crashes the car on the side of the road. the husband abducts the baby after the crash and sets the car on fire. this specific scene ends roughly five minutes into the episode but the story continues throughout. the most triggering part's are when maddie and chimney are taking about the case and when the man is at the park

season 7; episode 8; bobby has a couple flashbacks to his childhood where his dad screams at his mom alot, hits his older brother, and is generally a drunk asshole. it's nothing too bad but definitely worth nothing the domestic neglect

Some reactions/thoughts I’ve had so far while reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series for the first time after having only watched the show and hearing about shit online:

1. I had not previously picked up on the symbolism of a stag killing the direwolf mother my first watch. Having Catelyn, an incredibly superstitious and devout woman, be the POV and immediately clocking it after receiving the letter about Jon Arryn is so…. refreshing? So glad that a male fantasy author popped off in the 90s with writing genuinely intelligent women.

2. There are three people that remind me that I am not living to my full hating potential: Kendrick, 50, and Catelyn fucking Stark. I’ve only finished Danys chapter describing her wedding so far but that woman talks to/about Jon with such vitriol it’s astounding. He’s a literal child and didn’t ask to be born. I hope that someday she learns that Jon wasn’t Ned’s bastard. Am I delusional to think that maybe Stoneheart would sacrifice herself as an apology down the line? Most definitely. I have never seen anybody talk about how Danys fear about her marriage to Drogo and the fear of disappointing her brother manifests into a dream about Viserys raping/beating her before turning into a dragon and wreaking havoc. Further cements my hate of Viserys for all of you fucking weirdos out there who like him simply because his TV counterpart is played by Harry Lloyd. (I have quite literally seen thirst traps of him on TikTok, he’s genuinely one of the worst characters at the beginning of the series, idc) I am thankful that Drogo was as gentle as possible with her but Jesus Christ, Dany being a little girl makes me sad.

4. So far, the first two episodes of the show were basically one for one aside from ages and mild changes to appearance. Which pisses me off because I’m already aware that D&D severely fucks shit up later on. I love HotD but they rushed the ending to try and push out a failed pilot for another show with NAOMI WATTS??? Like bros, even without a finished main series to work with you still could’ve had a good 6-7 seasons before coming up with your own plot lines. Truly sad it didn’t get to live up to the originally proposed 14 season potential because I would’ve eaten it the fuck up.

5. Watching Sean Bean play Ned on screen and then reading that he is 35 in the books threw me for a fucking loop. Everyone is so damn young. Mans is less than 10 years older than me, with 5 kids and a 32-34 year old wife that was hoping to have a sixth. “Sansa is too young to be betrothed. 6. I think that Tyrion was already aware that his siblings are incestual. He’s too intelligent to not pick up on it. There is a line in his POV chapter immediately after Brans “fall” where he makes note of the twins looking at each other upon hearing that Bran might live. And then of course Jaime getting mad because Tyrion wants to know what Bran has to say upon waking up. Tyrion knows they are involved somehow but I still think he’s at least somewhat aware that their relationship is weird.

Silly UD Headcanons

Josh took a Home Ed class in the 9th grade to make better food for his sisters to eat

Chris used to be taller than all of the Washington siblings until the 6th grade and they all had a huge growth spurt

Hannah and Matt have work out days every Friday and Saturday

Ok, I just watched ALL* of Red vs Blue. Here is my rating for each season.

Note: This is mostly a vibes-based rating system, because I didn't think to rate them as I watched them-- so having all of this information shoved into my brain over the course of 3 weeks has maybe damaged me a little bit. And I maybe can't remember exactly why I am rating these things the way I am. And I am maybe even forgetting some stuff. I am an elderly person now so legally you have to either a) feel sorry for my cognitive decline, or b) respect my opinions due to my worldliness and wisdom.

Notes: I watched The Blood Gulch Chronicles countless times, and I loved them. I first saw a season when my friends showed me in 2004, when I was in high school. Donut with the spider on his head has lived rent free in my brain ever since.

I remember catching up in college and watching some of Seasons 6 & 7 maybe? And that is where I stopped. So the majority of this was a first-time watch!

Some of the humor is so good, and some of the humor is just edgy as fuck. Peak gen-x male gamer in early 2000's type shit.

It was interesting to watch the use of misogyny and the R-word as comedic devices taper off throughout the course of the 20-year time period it spans. Honestly watching these was like a cultural research project.

Overall I had a pretty good time. Like I said, a lot of the writing is very well done for what it is, and really funny.

The ending for Church and Tex was pretty sweet. The ending for Grif and Simmons, not so much. Would've been ok if they'd sounded a little bit sadder about leaving each other!!!

Another shameful note: I recently found a grimmons fanfic buried deep within my computer's most secret file folder structures. I think I wrote it about 14 years ago. I read it and it was so embarrassing that I considered throwing my PC into Lake Michigan. I guess I can say I've been a grimmons shipper for about 15 years though!!! 🫡 I'VE SERVED MY TIME

ok, i'll be honest

i only watched the finale of wild life today because i had no wifi for nearly 5 days, and my phone's wifi cannot open youtube....

and then out of habit, i opened Tumblr only to be spoiled immediately about the finale...

it was then i remembered it was wild life day

so here is one post of my thoughts: (i've only watched grian's episode fully while a bit of jim's and joel's)

1. "it was always gonna be like this, jim." is the equivalent of "it was never meant to be." (dsmp) and the similarities is so funny

2. "i'm not going out like that. not like skizz, not like mumbo, not on that tower! not today!" is a banger line oh my gosh

3. grian making a script joke when he talked about killing timmy was so funny, i laughed too much at that part

4. jimmy ending his finale with leaving his real life door is so him

5. the implications of what grian told timmy when he killed him (and lizzie)

5.2 xelqua having to be the one to do the killing himself

6. scar dying to his snail :(

6.2 scar spent his last moments with grian; desert duo crumbs

7. "i need you to bam me in the bunker" in grian's perspective was so funny

7.2 the added "don't tell joel" made it even funnier and wild

8. grian confessing that he was so tempted to trap scar and let his snail get him, but didn't because of their alliance (ahem desert duo ahem)

9. "let them ride the rollercoaster" when lizzie first summoned zombie martyn and zombie skizz was such a funny scene

10. grian and joel killing spree team-up was unexpected and i loved every second of it
