People acting like you’re completely evil for simply not liking bugs sets my OCD off a little bit
You can’t say anything about being terrified of spiders online without someone going “but the spider didn’t do anything to you!! Why do you hate them?! It’s unethical to kill them!!” And they’ll start referencing that one poem even if you never said you killed a spider in the first place
Some people literally treat it as a moral fault if you’re afraid of bugs. I saw a comment on Facebook where the conclusion was basically “if you’re scared of bugs, that’s Bad and you need to work on that and learn to be Completely Okay with them or else you’re Bad” like some people don’t have an uncontrollable fear of bugs
A fear of bugs is also an OCD thing. My contamination OCD really doesn’t like them. And some people with trauma who lived in infested/dirty homes also do not like bugs- So acting like being scared of bugs is an inherently bad thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
But I always have a nagging thought at the back of my mind now when I see a scary bug. “Why are you scared of it? You’re a bad person if you’re scared of it.”

FORMLINE SCORPION 🦂🌃
Tumblr media
This piece was done as a contest entry for a local contest that unfortunately did not win. Because of that, I feel comfortable sharing it here. This was a pretty experimental piece and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.
This piece in question was based off the Northern Scorpion (Paruroctonus boreus), which is the only species of scorpion that lives in Canada and also known to glow a bright blue under UV light. (pictured below)
Tumblr media
I'm kinda sad I didn't win, but I'm still proud of how the piece turned out. (Also this piece got finished around the end of October last year, so it's been on the backburner in terms of posting for a while lmao)

African Social Spiders: these spiders live in colonies that can contain up to 2,000 spiders, most of which are female; they hunt, forage, maintain their web, and raise their offspring as a group, without any dominance hierarchy or caste system
Tumblr media
This communal behavior is extremely rare among spiders, which are normally solitary creatures. The African social spider (Stegodyphus dumicola) is one of the few species that has been identified as a true "social spider," forming colonies and living in communal nests where the spiders work together to hunt, forage, build webs, and care for their offspring.
Tumblr media
Above: an African social spider feeding the young spiderlings of her colony by regurgitating food for them, exhibiting a level of maternal/allomaternal care that is relatively uncommon in both spiders and insects
African social spiders can be found in various parts of southwestern Africa, where they will often build a dense silk nest in the branches of a thorn tree and/or shrub. Most of the spiders in the colony are female (more than 85%, according to some studies) and the species itself also has a female-biased primary sex ratio, as researchers have found that female embryos develop in more than 80% of the eggs that the spiders produce.
Tumblr media
Above: a group of African social spiders working together to subdue their prey, which will be taken back to the nest so that it can be shared with the rest of the colony
There is no evidence that any dominance hierarchy or caste system exists within S. dumicola colonies. The spiders all cooperate to complete a variety of tasks, such as hunting, repairing the web, foraging, defending the colony, caring for the colony's offspring, etc. While none of them are exclusively assigned to a single task, many have a primary role that they fill, often based on their physical size and condition.
Tumblr media
Above: close-up photo of S. dumicola
This species also engages in extreme allomaternal care, meaning that many different spiders (including both mothers and "allomothers") all share the responsibility of caring for the colony's offspring; even the unmated females help out with brood care. The mothers/allomothers tend to the eggsacs, regurgitate food for the baby spiderlings, and even engage in matriphagy, which means that they will eventually be cannibalized by the babies.
From The Encyclopedia of Animal Behavior:
... some proportion of females do not reproduce – sometimes as much as 60% – but remain as helpers, contributing to foraging and brood care (allo-mothering). Both breeding females and virgin allo-mothers regurgitate food for colony offspring and eventually let the young consume their bodies. ...
Young that are raised with both mothers and allo-mothers show higher survival and growth than young raised by their mothers alone, suggesting a clear fitness benefit of cooperative breeding.
Tumblr media
Spiders of this species generally measure about 2.5 - 3.5mm long; they can be found in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini.

I really wanted to do a proper monster!jon design, usually they boil down to guy with a lifetime eye subscription but personally I think it’d be cool if he was no longer even humanoid,,
So, imagine the eyepocalypse but everything is. Even more wrong. Instead of regular Jon walking around with Martin it’s this thing, he can technically still speak like this, only trough tape recorders and there’s an unmistakable sound of recorded crying/wailing playing under his words.
Sometimes when he’s especially upset there’s no words and the recorded crying of all the world trapped in a fearscape hell is all that plays, occasionally the tape rewinds during this or there’s scratches in the recording.

Killer Casually Gets Rid of Body
This jumping spider seems to really like eating ants, I've seen a couple of them snacking this type of ant in the same area. But you can't tell me that it chucked the corpse over the railing by accident.

Yandere Arachnologist x GN! Reader
Content/Trigger warning: Spiders are all over this text, so be careful. Stalking and bullying are heavily mentioned as well.
- Yandere Arachnologist who has always had a passion and borderline obsession for spiders. They love how small yet deadly they can be, never hesitating to protect themselves with their powerful venoms and creating small but intricate webs, which they can use to fool and trap their preys.
- Yandere Arachnologist wishes they could be like their fuzzy eight-leg friends. They can hide in dark and small crevices, unlike them. They evade their predators with skill and grace, unlike them. They don't have to be judged or hated by their fellow arachnids, unlike them. They are free, unlike them.
- Yandere Arachnologist will have trouble falling in love with others, with them being quite solitary in nature, and would hardly approach others unless it is absolutely necessary, so you would most likely have to take the initiative to get close to them.
"Hey! I've seen you in class before! You are the one who likes reading about spiders, right?"
"And what if I do?"
"Eh?"
"If you are here to mock me, you are wasting your time. Fuck off"
- Yandere Arachnologist are very rude at first. They have been hurt by everyone that was ever close to them, so it will take a while for them to even be polite to you. They have shielded their heart with anger so as to not be taken advantage of again.
- Yandere Arachnologist will slowly lower their guard as you persist in your pursuit for a friendship. If you continue to be kind, respectful, and actively interested in their hobbies, they will be sure to act more and more lively and accepting with every new interaction.
"You mentioned how you have a per spider, right? Can I meet them?"
"... You are not going to hurt them, are you?"
"Of course not, I promise. I've never seen a Mexican red rump tarantula before, so I'm very curious!"
"Oh! Ok then. I'm sorry if I was too rude"
"It's alright, don't worry about it. I would also be protective of my pet so they are never harmed!"
- Yandere Arachnologist will be very happy if you wish to bond with their passion, spiders. You better not have arachnophobia, or else you won't be able to survive this. Yandere Arachnologist will show you hundreds of books and illustrations of many of the different species of spiders around the world! They will explain to you how each and every spider acts and how their venom works!
- Yandere Arachnologist is so happy to finally have someone like them who won't judge or hate them for their hobby! They immediately consider you their best friend when they let you hold Fuzzy for the first time, and you carry them with such care as you would a baby.
- Yandere Arachnologist will slowly cath feelings for you as the weeks go by. Perhaps it is because you are the first person who has ever treated them with respect and love? Or could it be due to the fact that you share their same passion? Maybe because you are their first ever true friend? Whatever it is, the turning point will be if you ever defend them from a bully (they hate bullies) who were mocking them.
- Yandere Arachnologist will look at you in awe and adoration as you tear the bully a new one and even threaten to fight them if they ever dare to insult them ever again.
"Seriously, what's wrong with these people?!"
"They never mind their business..."
"And just because you like spiders! Disgusting..."
"..."
"Hey, don't worry. I'll always be there for you, I won't ever let them harm you again"
"Thanks... I will do so too =)"
- Yandere Arachnologist is pretty good at stalking and keeping tabs on you without being detected. Years of needing to be under the radar so as not to be harassed has trained them quite well. They make sure to note everything that they didn't already know about you into one of their many journals. Your likes, dislikes, favorite food, favorite color, favorite shops, email address, phone number, postal address, home address, daily and nightly routine, commute schedule, favorite panties, sleeping position, mole positions... you know, just small things =)
- Yandere Arachnologist makes sure to memorize every significant and insignificant detail you ever tell them and prepare for the fated day when they will confess their undying love and obsession. And prepare in the case you refuse.
- Yandere Arachnologist has already furnaced their basement to resemble your room almost perfectly. They have landed a pretty good job with a salary that can support the two of you and plenty of venom from one of their pets. Don't worry, it's non-lethal. They have plenty of the antidote, too, so do not fret. They only wish to leave a message. Behave or else.
