Custom CAS Background and Stylist Room Background Tutorial: How to Make Your Own
Before I begin this tutorial I would like to credit CherieDawn67 at Modthesims for figuring out how to replace the background meshes and textures. My mod is only possible due to her hard work.
I must also credit @mspoodle1 for fixing the lighting/weather issues in the first version of this mod, and recompiling the mod to allow further customization.
---
01. Open up my CAS Room or Stylist Room package file in S3PE. Take note of the following IMG resources:
Create a Sim room's background: instance 0xBBF74B40103CCD80
Create a Pet room: instance 0xF1977DAF066F6F09
Create a Bot room: instance 0x7DB75D780535AF71
Stylist room: instance 0xA7E661A96D5DBCD6
Right-click on any of them and export the image as a ".dds" file. The background image is a 2048x2048 px DDS DXT5 image file.
Technically you could use a 1024x1024 px texture instead but the image quality in-game will be lower.
02. Open the image in the graphics program of your choice.
03. Find an image that is 2048 px wide, and around 1024 px in height. It should be in landscape orientation. Could be a texture extracted from a TS4 CAS background, a photo, artwork, a scenery screenshot from another game like Skyrim/Baldurs Gate/GTA/etc. Whatever you want. You could even take your own screenshots for this.
04. Paste your image over my image, being mindful of the borders. Anything beyond the borders will not be visible in the camera's field of view.
05. Save and export this image as a DDS DXT5 image.
06. In S3PE, right-click on the IMG resource. Replace it with the image you created in the previous steps.
Make sure you are replacing the correct instance as mentioned in Step 01. Since each room uses its own dedicated image, you could have different backgrounds for each Create-a-Sim/Create-a-Pet/Create-a-Bot room. Since the Stylist room is a separate package, you could have a unique background in there as well.
07. Save and close S3PE.
08. Plop the edited CAS Room Default or Stylist Room Default in your Overrides folder and have a look in-game. You must have the Ambitions EP installed in order for the stylist room to do anything.
The default replacement background should not affect your CAS camera mods, CAS lighting mods, or CAS standing poses.

I really, really hate the "Female V is canon" vs "Male V is canon" debate that been popping here and here in the tags those past weeks
Cyberpunk 2077 is a Role Playing Game, there is no "canon" protagonist, that's the whole point. We all have a different playstyles, different stories and headcanons, our custom V is The Canon V of Our Own playthroughs!
After Phantom Liberty dropped, I've seen a lot of players, on Tumblr or Twitter, voicing their concerne and disappointment in how much more Female V focused the official promo, videos and even in-game credits became
I was one of them too, expressing my feelings multiple times, sometimes awkwardly, frustrated that Male V players were once again brushed to the side, because that's how it feels like, right?
Well, it might feels like it, but this isn't the case AT ALL, far from it. This is only what I would call a "Fandom Phenomenon" and I want to talk more about it a bit
I had a great conversation with a friend of mine who works in the game industry and it opened my eyes on the matter, and I've since been really interested in seeing RPGs statistics!
Because it's really, really important to make the difference between the Casual Player Base (majority of players) and the Fans / Fandom Base (minority of players)

I always been lurking in fandoms here on Tumblr, since Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and now with Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3
First I want to drop some stats- might be completly wrong, but I'm only sharing my point of view here, in an attempt to explain why some people are frustrated with Female V being the focus (and why we shouldn't be!)
I think it's not wrong to say that fandoms are mostly occupied by women and fem-identifying individuals; fandoms are a safe place for players and fans to share their passions. Women are STILL HEAVILY harassed and hated in the gaming industry as a whole, it doesn't take a lot of digging to catch a vile comment on Twitter or on Twitch for example, you cannot go far without seeing someone either attacking or sexualizing them
This is a huge problem in the industry still, every games that release with a female protagonist get trashed- just look at the bullshit surrounding GTA 6 just because players will be able to play as a woman as an option
Fandoms are also safe for non-gender conforming people, non-binaries, trans people and queer men, but I think fem individuals and women are a clear majority, at least on Tumblr (only talking about genders identity here and not about being queer or not, not talking about sexualities or attraction) (not an official stat at all and only my point of view and experience from being on Tumblr since ~2012)
Now let's talk about Cyberpunk 2077- because this is my main fandom since 2020, and what prompted me to write this post in the first place
CDPR didn't share any stats recently, but it's REALLY SAFE to assume the MAJORITY of players are playing a straight Male V romancing Panam, followed by a lesbian Female V romancing Judy, but the player pools for both options are still majoritarly cis hetero men (and they are still the focus for AAA studios to sell their games, this is sadly just how it is)
However on the fandom side, Fem V was always the focus; virtual photography, mods, ships, OCs... She was always more popular than Male V, getting more interactions and notes and why trends like "Male V monday" were created and why there is still a lack of male V focused mods (non-binaries and trans fem folks and characters are also sadly under-represented in all type of content and art)
So, being yourself as a non-fem player, playing as a Masc V, seeing CDPR officially make the switch from Male V to Female V, when the space you've been in for the past 3 years has been overwhelmingly Female V focused on all front, was a bit of a punch in the guts; like I said earlier, I was reaaally frustrated with this too!
And I'd say it's "normal"? or at least "ok" to feel this way, it makes sense considering how little attention Male V in general get in the fans community
BUT. BUT... It's REALLY important here to realize how we sound and how we look like when we voice our frustrations on the matter; we sound and look just like all the misogynistic people over on Twitter who screams about "woke games" everytime there is a female protagonist in their "non political games". We have to remember that fandoms are suuuch a small part of the game industry

Astarion is nowhere to be seen in the official most romanced companions statistic, but I'm sure a lot of people will agree that he's probably the most popular one in the fandom side!
Another stat here from Mass Effect and really interesting info coming from David Gaider about how the hardcore fanbase aka fandom's choices were WILDLY different from the casual / main player pool

Getting my head out of the fandom bubbles and seeing the bigger picture, how much under-represented women still are in official medias (not talking about fan content) and how insanly misoginistic the game industry still is, both on the player and devs sides, helped me handle my own frustration on the matter, accept and even celebrate Female V being the focus for the Phantom Liberty campaign
With all that said tho, we all should be able to vent about the lack of Male, Masc and Non-Binary content in the fandom side, while still being aware of the industry state, it CAN co-exist! It doesn't make anyone a bad or misogynist person!
We are all humans and can be awkward and make mistakes, especially when voicing frustration or talking while in a negative mood. Let's educate one another in good-faithed manners when we slip instead of jumping to conclusion and throw accusations
Not gonna lie I kind of lost my train of thoughts and not sure how to finish this post, but I hope this can enlight some people on why CDPR made this choice!
Repeating this as a finale note; this doesn't mean that Female V is the "main" V or "canon" V . It's simply her time to shine, and it's well deserved! The industry needs it

Can you work in a ts2 to ts3 cars mod? Sims can open and enter in cars and drive just like ts2.

Hi and you're welcome. 🙂 I think we'd all like TS2-style cars in TS3, my friend. It's a lot of work. At least in terms of the way I would want to set it up which would require a fully custom object rig and new animations, new scripts, etc. I may eventually get around to it but you should check out @angelqueen34. She's been working on bringing the Store car animations to TS3 and also has some cool ideas for GTA style driving!

Hi and thanks! I'm not interested in adding the Jacoban religion because it's too similar to Peteran and I don't see the gameplay value. If I were to create a new religion, it'd be something completely different in tone and style to the first two I created. Peteran represents the Abrahamic religions, Omiscan for animism, so I'd have to think about something else. Idk, these days most people worship Taylor Swift and Beyonce so maybe I'll create a stan mod 😭😭

My main takeaway throughout all the inZOI discourse I've seen the last few days:
I wish folks would just let the game thrive (or fail) on it's own. I do understand ppl will naturally compare it to TS4 but lets not do that please lol. If you're truly looking for a TS4 gameplay alternative.. TS3 is right there; as a complete series and without the merry-go-round of game patches or broken mods to fuss over. Personally, Character Creation for me is just not enough to start dropping my jaw.. I needed to see something other than the Zoi's themselves because even with all that customization they all still gave same face syndrome. If I wanted to see my OC's look pretty and realistic I could just log in Secondlife, or.. again.. TS3. I took a peak into Oshin's gameplay demo and it was.. promising. There were some obvious red flags like not being able to multitask and those horrible cutaway scenes but for a stand alone base game with no added DLC's I cut it some slack. Maybe they will listen to their community's needs and improve on some things.. maybe they won't IDK. A huge turn off I noticed as I was watching: It seems like they might have used AI or something to replicate the Simlish language down to a T. It completely kicked me out of the immersion I was feeling when I should have been becoming more ingratiated into this world. It was also weird to me that they even have a custom language when all the products around them were written in English.. it just didn't make sense and seemed rushed on their part. The Uncanny Valley thing looked less predominant once you got into the world where Zoi's are surrounded by their intended environment and not just stuck behind a blank screen. My original first impression of it gave me GTA vibes and I still stand by that but it also strongly resembles DAZ Studio; which is the epiphany I had as to why I don't like the way the Zoi's look. I have no issue with realism and lifelike features.. I mean look at all my custom skins. It's that specific DAZ aesthetic i'm just not into.

Hello there! Thank you so much for your interest in Reckless OCs I’ve shared! It's all just... Just a project that didn't turn out well. They don't have a comic or a good story.
Initially, these characters were just my original creations inspired by the aesthetics of GTA. Later, I even made a small short film in GTA San Andreas using mods, custom models, and CLEO scripts to tell a bit of their story (in rus).

Over time, they evolved into standalone OCs with their own lore. I’ve always loved coming up with ideas and drawing them, so it became more of a creative outlet for me. I even created a toyhouse where I’m still working on writing full biographies for each of them.

That said, they don’t have a good solid plot or story right now—just rough ideas, like how some of them meet and interact. At one point, I imagined Reckless as a game or even a visual novel.
Unfortunately, it ended up turning into a concept that I'd like to just sell someday, including the characters and world. Since I don't see much point or interest in them, as a project it failed. But selling a complete project is not as easy as it seems. So it's even for the best that I have them for now. So for now they remain my little muses for artistic practice.

It's so weird to me that games like Baldurs gate 3 and cyberpunk 2077 can have full on pornographic sex scenes so integrated into the game that there's genital customization. Like, it seems like it wasn't that long ago that gta San andreas had to go through a full recall cause it has sexual content on the disk that was only accessible with mods, and things like fable were pushing the envelop with a fade to black and a few generic moan sounds

An overview (and photos) of personal projects; in game photography with the idea of presenting differing types of graphics presets and the importance of certain settings like MXAA, FXAA and Tessellation.

The use of graphics modifications: Reshade (LUT shaders, MXAA/FXAA tessellation modifiers, the ability to modify presets), ENBSeries (Shadow/shader enhancer, the ability to enable "VehicleFXAA") (and works well with GTA V's "FXAA" "MXAA" and relevant Nvidia shader technology)
List of graphics mods used in photos:
Reshade (Custom preset based off one that works alongside Pascal Glitcher's/Marty McFly's "RTGI" (Ray Tracing Global Illumination) plugin.
ENBSeries (Normal weather settings, VehicleFXAA enabled alongside original and highest FXAA setting).
QuantV (August 2022 update? Latest "non modified" version after the infamous QuantV incident).
NVE Vegetation presets (Inclusion of modified, dense and ultra-high quality vegetation).
LARevo (Inclusion of real-world brand placement, custom buildings and modified buildings to suit its real-life counterpart).
Custom .RPFs (for NVE, QuantV, LARevo, Lively World Expansion, RTGI and Forests of San Andreas (also works with Dubai Trees).
Custom depth of field settings, all texture/graphical settings set to very high/ultra with ambient occlusion on X16 and anisotropic filtering on highest possible (FXAA setting on highest, partnered with FXAA modification on Reshade).
Darker Nights expansion for NVE, and brighter emergency lights (though not in picture).
"Soft Shadows" setting on highest (Nvidia PCSS shadows work well on most PC's, but testing with Reshade shaders made things look weird).
QoL settings (graphical settings, quality relative) are all on highest possible.
And possibly other .RPF based graphics/texture enhancers, with a total of 53 plugin-based mods connected to latest FiveM client.
Recommendation: DO NOT EXCEED VRAM, IT WILL FRY YOUR GPU AND CAUSE RAGE/FIVEM/DX10/11/12 ERRORS!!!
The good, the bad and the ugly; graphics mods in games and shader enhancers being used in in-game ray tracing:
Some shaders, notably those that follow the trend of 4k or 8k resolution or effect are known to be resource heavy; and tend to be catered to an audience where people have the GPU/RAM power necessary to handle heavy loads of data being offloaded by graphical programs like DX11.
In FiveM, and it may also be the case in other games, shaders and texture modifications can alter the appearance of the game to a permanent level (unless either a full re-install is done or the program in question is removed properly); I know this is the case for .RPF based modifications because the file format is a root, and used to be the case was the fact that most .RPFs had to be placed into the "mods" folder in GTA main directory and now being able to be easier implemented into a specialised plugins folder.
Shadows can be affected based upon MXAA/FXAA/PCSS settings; modifications can fix this (in certain circumstances, people have made similar modifications based upon 4k/8k and rendered down to a more easier-to-run level for people with not as powerful GPUs/Processors). Also, normal game shadows can be altered with ray tracing technology; a similar technology can be had with FiveM (with Marty McFly's "Ray Tracing Global Illumination" enhancement, but has to work alongside a Reshade profile that's mods work alongside RTGI).
LUT shaders (shaders that can change colour profiles, and certain palettes) can alter the way shadows look because of the use of vibrant colours. The more vibrant the LUT pack, the more apparent shadows will become with the possibility of an incompatibility between a FXAA plugin and the pack in question.
Using Reshade on other games will have a similar or majorly different affect on the colours, shadows and texture due to differences in engine or existing colour palette. For example, vanilla GTA V runs on a semi-subdued palette; so vibrant mods will not majorly affect gameplay...however, NFS Heat utilises refractions and reflections heavily so gameplay could be strained if a heavy LUT pack is used (Reshade, not an independent plugin).
For digital photography, it isn't 100 percent necessary that you use presets and profiles in your work; post-production can have a lot of action in a otherwise subdued image.
Photoshop, Lightroom or any other photo/image editing software with the right profiles can have nice affects on an image.
Conclusion: You do not necessarily need all the Gucci modifications to create photographs; but if you want to level up existing images, either post-production or the use of modifications would be a possible route.
