Summary: when you wonder around the house in the middle of the night stating your sleeping on the couch the only thing curtis can do is go an adventure for you.

"I'm sleeping on the couch" you explained to Curtis in a whisper as you made your way out of the soft warm sheets and stole the fluffy grey throw from the floor. You had your phone secretly recording in your hand, knowing this would be the best tik tok for you both yet. Curtis's head shot up at your words as he was just about to drift off into a well-deserved slumber.

"What?" He asked wanting the words you spoke to fall through the air once again. He watched you shuffle around the room with your blanket and phone until opening the door revealing the light shining in from the hall. "Y/n where are you going?" He asked again in his scouse accent.

"sleeping downstairs" you shouted back from the stairs as you bit your lips in an act to prevent the laughter from falling out.

"What the hell" you heard Curtis mumble as the sound of his feet now tapping across the bedroom floor caused you to run quickly down the stairs and into the living room. "Y/n" he hollered from the landing as he made his way to descend to you.

"Yeah?" You asked oblivious to his words. You had now placed your phone resting on the mantle piece still recording the very moment.

"I'm sorry but why have you just got up and say your sleeping on the couch? What did I d-" he started before being cut short as he turned the corner. His face went soft at the sight of you tucked up in the grey covers on the large l-shaped couch. You had your eyes planted shut and only your head showing from the blanket.

"Sorry, what babe?" You asked as if you were half asleep and didn't have a perception as to what was going on.

"Nothing" he mumbled with a soft giggle as he climbed over your small body and rested himself over you as his lips plated small kisses on yours. "As long as I can stay?" He asked with a soft smile and delicate words. You simply nodded at his words and opened your arms up for him so he fell softly into your embrace. Even if it was the middle of the night and you were both tottering around to complete a tik tok, it still made the most amazing and worthwhile memories.

curtis jones seems like the kinda guy that would be really into playfighting, like he would purposefully annoy you just so that you guys end up rolling around on the floor trying to gain an advantage on each other. he usually manages to pin you pretty quickly but you pull the oldest trick in the book and distract him by planting a kiss on his lips before you manage to break his hold and roll you both over so you're on top. you smirk down at him in victory, hands pinning his wrists to the floor as you straddle him. he smirks right back at you saying he was enjoying the view anyway as he tries to lift his head to stare down your top. you giggle as his comment before you call a truce and you both agree sealing the deal with a kiss.

Who: Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott Prompt: falling asleep at the other one's house. Requested by: @percervall Word count: 439 Warnings: none

Being close friends, Curtis and Harvey often met up in their free time. They usually went out for dinner or drinks, or played videogames together, but Liverpool's busy schedule had left them rather tired, so for tonight they decided to stay in and watch football on TV.

"Tea?" Harvey watched Curtis flop himself down on his couch. "Yes, please," Curtis answered as he kicked off his shoes. The both of them knew their way around each other's houses well, and felt more than comfortable to act like they were at home. Harvey chuckled at the sight of Curtis making himself comfortable, before he disappeared into the kitchen to fetch them something to drink.

Harvey returned to the living room a few minutes later. He meant to say something, but was stopped dead in his tracks by what he saw on his couch. Curtis still sat in the same place, albeit a little sagged to the side. His arms crossed loosely across his stomach, and chin resting on his chest. His slow, deep breathing left no doubt: he was fast asleep.

"Oh, Curt." Harvey grinned. He wasn't mad at Curtis for falling asleep, and certainly wasn't planning on waking him up. On the contrary, he had seen how knackered Curtis was after their last match, so Harvey gladly granted him this extra bit of sleep.

Very careful not to disturb Curtis, Harvey sat down at the other end of the couch. He turned on the TV for the match and made sure the sound wasn't too loud. He stretched his legs out on the coffee table in front of him, and would simply watch the match until Curtis woke up.

Harvey startled slightly when Curtis stirred beside him. Curtis blinked a few times groggily at the TV screen, before he slowly looked at Harvey. "The match started already?" "First half's nearly done, mate," Harvey chuckled, "you were asleep for almost an hour." "Oh, bloody hell, I'm sorry." Curtis passed his hands over his face. "Why didn't you wake me up?" A devilish grin played on Harvey's lips. "I was always told never to wake a sleeping baby." Curtis laughed, rolling his eyes. "Nice one."

"I'll make you some new tea." Harvey picked up the untouched mug of earlier. "This one has gone rather cold." "Thanks." Curtis sat more upright, yawning widely. He had to admit: it was a good nap. "Just don't fall asleep again while I'm in the kitchen," Harvey teased. "I won't." Curtis laughed. "Although I can recommend a nap. You should do it, too." Harvey chuckled. "Be careful what you wish for. I might actually do it."

Michael Sheen's The Way echoes Tata steelworks reality

When Michael Sheen was filming clashes between steelworkers and riot police in his home town Port Talbot, little did he know 2,000 jobs at its steelworks would be at risk by the time it premiered.

"We had no idea when we were developing the story what would be happening at the steelworks when this came out," he said.

"It's incredibly unfortunate that the story we've written has come bizarrely very close to the truth."

Speaking ahead of The Way's premiere at Port Talbot's Reel Cinema, he insisted the three-part BBC drama - originally conceived in 2016 - was a fictional story and not about the Tata steelworks.

"But obviously, knowing the town, knowing the relationship the town has with the steelworks, knowing the insecurities and the anxieties that have always been there in my lifetime around employment and work there - that was part of what drew us to setting the story in this town," said Sheen, 55, who both directed and starred in the drama.

He said Port Talbot's steelworks was the "spiritual centre of the town" and "part of our DNA" and the news of job losses had been "devastating".

The Way is written by James Graham, created by Sheen, Graham and documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis and stars a number of Welsh actors.

The cast includes Steffan Rhodri (Steeltown Murders and Gavin & Stacey), Mali Harries (Hinterland), Sophie Melville (The Pact), Callum Scott Howells (It's a Sin) and Mark Lewis Jones (Men Up and Keeping Faith).

Episode one sees growing concern over the future of the steelworks, leading to protests, which later turn to riots.

Some take to the streets to join the fight, others frantically try to escape or hide in their homes as helicopters fly overhead.

The streets become a warzone and the town is locked down by armed police.

With Port Talbot facing an uncertain future, could life imitate art?

"It's not like we're saying 'this is what you should do as a result of what's going on' by any means, but obviously I have huge sympathy for the steelworkers," said Sheen.

"In no way is this a blueprint to how people should react, but you don't know do you? I have no idea how people are going to react.

"People will try and be as resourceful and as positive about it as they possibly can I'd imagine because that is the spirit of the people in this place - but at the same time you don't know and people are very angry as well."

For Sheen, "everything" is political.

A long-term champion of the NHS, in 2015 he was applauded for delivering a passionate speech to a pro-NHS march in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, and he is currently in rehearsal for a National Theatre production about NHS founder Aneurin Bevan.

In 2019, he sold property to bankroll the Homeless World Cup in Cardiff when funding for the £2m project fell through at the last moment.

In 2020, the actor, who was born in Newport and raised in Port Talbot, said he had handed back his OBE so he could air his views about the monarchy without being a "hypocrite".

In 2021, he said he had turned himself into a "not-for-profit" actor, using the money he earned from acting to fund projects.

He has been vocal on a range of issues from children in care to Welsh independence.

Was he trying to make a political statement in The Way?

"Everything is connected, everything happens for a reason, things are the way they are in this town and any town not just by chance, it's because of choices and various things... I think inevitably this was going to be a political story," he said.

"Part of the reason why we wanted to set it here... we needed to feel there was a great sense of discontent amongst a lot of people in the place, a lot of anxiety, a lot of feeling of not having their voices heard."

He said when people were made to feel that they were not being listened to and did not matter "that sense of frustration and anger can boil over".

Sheen made his name as an actor initially in the theatre before winning acclaim as a screen actor playing real people from Tony Blair, David Frost, Kenneth Williams and Chris Tarrant to lead roles in series including Good Omens, Masters of Sex and Staged.

In 2011, he directed and starred in a 72-hour epic theatrical production of The Passion, which moved around different locations across Port Talbot drawing huge crowds and critical acclaim.

It is perhaps unsurprising that he would choose to make his TV directorial debut in the town too.

"[The Way] was definitely very personal," he said.

"I feel like I knew what I was filming and I felt anchored and connected to what was going on."

Sheen now lives near Port Talbot with his partner Anna Lundberg and their two children Lyra and Mabli.

"It's somewhere I inevitably keep coming back to and it's an endless source of inspiration," he said of the town.

"It's the source of all my imaginative explorations really because it's my home.

"It's where I grew up, it's where all the most important things happened to me, it's where my family still lives, it's where I now live again and as I've got older I've realised more and more how important the beginning of my life was and all the opportunities people gave to me."

One of those people who gave him opportunities was Godfrey Evans, a drama teacher who helped shaped generations of actors through the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre and died in November, aged 82.

At the premiere across the road from the town's Aberavon Beach, Sheen dedicated the screening to both his former teacher and Port Talbot's steelworkers.

What are his hopes for those in his home town currently fearing for their jobs?

"Particularly at a time like this when there's so much anxiety and so much concern about the future it is so important to feel like you're supported and you can talk about what's going on and to find connection with other people who are maybe going through the same things," he said.

"We wish everyone the best and hope there's plenty of support for people in the future."

1. Notting Hill

This is my go to “I’m grumpy/sad and I would like to feel less grumpy/sad” film.

Do I think that Anna Scott is a deeply problematic character? For sure. Do I care? For sure not. Did I rewrite the whole film for my OTPs? 😌

2. Before Sunset

Listen!!! Imagine meeting your soulmate on a train to Paris when you’re young, then you get of the train together in Vienna, spent one night roaming the city with them, and then you’re both dumbasses and don’t exchange phone numbers. Instead you make a grand romantic gesture and promise each other to meet at the same place in a year. Well, that’s the storyline of Before Sunrise, the first film of the trilogy.

Before Sunset has them reconnect in Paris years after. They’ve never forgotten each other and here they are again, and once more time is scarce. There’s a lot of talking and walking, two of my favourite things.

"A girl we went to school with, you don't know her" I say.

"That's why I'm asking who she is" he replies.

"She hated you so much back in high school…" Curtis chuckles.

"And all because she was in love with you and thought we were dating" I laugh.

"Wonder what made her think that" Harvey mumbles.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing, nothing." 

"How did she look? I haven't seen her in years" I say. 

"Not bad" Curtis replies. "She was pushing a kid on a pram and was pregnant again."

"Oh, wow. I didn't know she was having another baby. Wonder if she would name them after a brand too" I chuckle.

"What?" Harvey asks.

"She named her first kid Chanel" I explain.

"She was obsessed with anything Chanel. Remember how she would make fun of you because you wore a bag that looked like a Chanel one?" Curtis says.

"Or because I didn't leave the country for the summer like she did. She was obsessed with money and being rich."

"And now look at you. Having an actual Chanel bag among others, and traveling the world."

"You're welcome" Harvey whispers.

"Did you say anything?" I ask.

"No, no. I was talking to myself."

"Anyway, I better go" Curtis says, getting up from the sofa. "I have to stop by the Adidas shop to pick up some shoes." 

"See you tomorrow?" I ask.

"Same time, same place" he smiles. "See you at training, bro."

"Yeah" Harvey says.

"What was all that about?" I ask once Curtis has left.

"Uh?"

"The talking under your breath, the side eye, the grumpy face…"

"I don't know what you mean" Harvey shrugs.

"Oh, c'mon. I'm not an idiot. Did we say something that bothered you?"

"It would have been nice hearing you acknowledge that you have all those expensive bags and are traveling the world because of me" he says, crossing his arms over his chest.

"That's… that's true. I'm sorry, I didn't want you to feel like I'm using you or something."

"I know you aren't using me. What I’ve bought you is because I’ve wanted to, because I love you and want to see you happy and experience new places with you, make new memories."

"That's cute. And thank you" I smile. "But you still look grumpy.”

"I'm not grumpy."

"Yes, you are, Harvey. You are pouting, and you always do that when something bothers you."

"Do I?"

"Yes, you do."

"Looks like you know me better than I know you" he says.

"Wait… Are you mad at me because I have never told you about Jennifer?" I chuckle.

"No."

"Yes, you are!"

"I'm not" he insists.

"Harvey, if I haven't told you about her it's because I don't want to remember how she bullied me as a teen. Those years sucked because of her."

"You didn't have any problem a minute ago when you talked about her with Curtis" he says, getting up from the sofa and walking towards the kitchen.

"Because he witnessed it all and understands me."

"I could have understood you too if you had told me about it. If you talked to me too. I am your boyfriend, you know?"

"I know" I say, following him.

"Do you? Do you really do?"

"What does that mean?"

"It means that it looks like Curtis is the one who is your boyfriend, not me."

"What?" I laugh. "He is my best friend!"

"Sometimes it doesn't feel like it. Sometimes I feel like there are three people in this relationship, not two."

"Oh my God, Harvey. Are you jealous of Curtis?"

"Of course I am! He is constantly here hanging out with you, talking about things that I don't know about, knowing things about you I should also know about!"

"He is my best friend! We've known each other since we were 5! It's normal that he knows things you don't know yet."

"And is it normal when you cuddle together in front of me? When he makes you gifts out of the blue or takes you places without me?"

"It is! He is my best friend and I'm allowed to have my own life outside this relationship!"

"Of course you are allowed to have your own life. But my best mates don't do that, both boys and girls" Harvey says, crossing his arms over his chest once again.

"Maybe that's because your friends suck?"

"Because my… whatever."

"Where are you going now?" I say as I watch him leave the kitchen.

"Out. I need some fresh air."

"Seriously? You say all those shitty things and now you are leaving?"

"Yes, I am. If you don't want to be alone you can call your dearest best friend. He probably still is close by" he snorts.

"Fuck you, Harvey!" I say, also leaving the kitchen.

"Where are you going?" he asks.

"Somewhere away from you and your stupid jealousy" I reply, running up the stairs and hiding in our room.

"May I come in?" Harvey says after knocking on our room's door.

"That depends."

"I come bearing gifts" he says, showing me a box of chocolates.

"Being cute and getting me my favourite sweets won't make me forget about what you did earlier."

"I know" he sighs. "I'm sorry. You know I had had a really shit day at training and I just…"

"And you lashed out at me."

"I did."

"But having a bad day doesn't give you the right to behave like an asshole, you know?"

"I know, and I'm sorry. I was already feeling insecure because of what had happened in training, and seeing you two together sharing confidences and laughing didn't help, so I just... exploded."

"Curtis is my best friend. And your friend too."

"I know."

"And I am your girlfriend, not his."

"I know" he repeats, playing with the box in his hands.

"I love him, yes. But I don't love him the way I love you, Harvey. I will never do. Because he is my best friend, just that."

"Ok" he whispers.

"And yes, he may know things you don't because we've known each other since forever. But, for example, he doesn't know that those chocolates are my favourites."

"Really?" Harvey says, finally looking up.

"Yep. He thinks still thinks Maltesers are my favourites."

"You haven't eaten those since that party when you ate too many and ended up throwing up."

"Which is another thing he doesn't know" I smile. "That, or that my favourite shower gel is the orange one your mum bought us last Christmas. Or that I always cry watching the first "Mamma Mia!" movie. Or that I wear two pairs of socks during winter."

"He doesn't know that?" he chuckles.

"Never had gotten undressed in front of him" I shrug. "That's something I've only done in front of you and my girlfriends." 

"I know" he replies, trying not to smile and failing.

"So see? There are things only you know because you are my boyfriend. And I'm sorry if us cuddling bothers you, but when I do it it's like when I do it with my siblings."

"I know that too" he sighs. "And I've never had any problem with it, I swear. But you know how I've always struggled with being affectionate with you in public, how shy I get. So I guess I was jealous because I wish I could be like that."

"But I don't want you to change. I like you the way you are, Harvey."

"And I like you the way you are. Even if sometimes it looks like you and Curtis are attached to the hip" he says with a shy smile.

"Why don't you come over here and we eat some of those chocolates?" I ask, gesturing towards the spot on the bed next to me.

"You sure?"

"I’m sure. And if you want, I can tell you more about Jennifer. I was lurking on Instagram, found her account, and it is… I honestly am speechless"

"Well, I don't expect a person who has called her child Chanel, to have a boring account" he chuckles, sitting next to me.

"Wait until you find out the name of the second one and watch the gender reveal."

"Is it bad?" Harvey asks, opening the chocolates box.

"There are no words to describe it" I laugh.

"Are we ok, tho?"

"We are" I smile. "Though you may hate me after showing you this."

"Oh… my god" he gasps, watching Jennifer's gender reveal while I just laugh and eat my chocolates.

I wonder what old music that Joseph showed him that he liked. My nana used to buy Best of [decade] CDs for road trips and I fell in love with a lot of music that way as a kid. This of course also depends on what Joseph listened to. I bet Jotaro likes some Beatles songs, the more upbeat ones, and probably a lot of jazz and big bands. Sinatra for sure, probably the whole rat pack, Glenn Miller and so on. Oh, and you know this man, probably closer to part 6, see's Elvis as a guilty pleasure.

You know how lots of American dads in the 90's and early 00's had a king fu movie phase? I feel like he'd really like Blaxploitation movies (Foxy Brown, Black Dynamite, Cleopatra Jones etc) and as a result like Curtis Mayfield and other artists of that time

Also, bros in Florida, and if you ever moved to the south (not from there but specifically moved) you know that even if you don't listen to it ever again once you leave, you have a few country songs you have a soft spot for. He'd definitely like Johnny Cash, maybe some Dolly songs.

His wife looks like an ABBA girlie, and I bet he'd sing and dance with her in their first apartment together

You know he's gotta like Prince, and specifically I hc the song 'In Love'. We're never gonna get to see what went on between the parts, and lots of people love to hc that Jotaro either needed to pass on the Joestar bloodline or got shot gun married, but I like to think he actually fell in love with Jolyne's mom. Imagine college Jotaro, adjusting to life at school in America and dealing with the horrors™️ from part 3 and finding someone he has such strong emotions for and for the first time imagines a future and a life with someone. (Personally In Love is the best love song ever made, it literally sounds like what it feels like to be giddy and infatuated with somebody)

Né le 25 janvier 1929 à Philadelphie, Benjamin ‘’Benny’’ Golson a fait ses études secondaires à Philadelphie. À l’âge de neuf ans, Golson avait commencé à apprendre le piano sous les pressions de sa mère qui voulait faire de lui un pianiste classique. Mais Golson ne l’entendait pas de cette oreille. Il expliquait: “That was aberrational in my neighborhood. All you heard there was the blues.”

Golson était âgé de quatorze ans lorsqu’il avait assisté à un concert de Lionel Hampton au Philadelphia’s Earl Theater. C’était après avoir entendu jouer Arnett Cobb qui faisait partie du groupe que Golson avait décidé de troquer le piano pour le saxophone ténor. Il avait commencé à composer à l’âge de dix-sept ans.

Pendant qu’il fréquentait le High School, Golson avait joué avec plusieurs musiciens prometteurs, dont John Coltrane, Red Garland, les frères Jimmy et Percy Heath, Philly Joe Jones et Red Rodney. LE MUSICIEN Après avoir obtenu son diplôme de l’Université Howard (où il avait écrit ses premiers arrangements), Golson avait brièvement conduit un camion de livraison avant de se joindre au groupe de rhythm n’ blues de Bull Moose Jackson en 1951. Tadd Dameron, que Golson considérerait plus tard comme sa plus importante influence comme compositeur, était le pianiste de Jackson à l’époque. Golson expliquait ainsi l’influence que Dameron avait eu sur lui: "Tadd's music really ignited the spark for me. After hearing things like 'Our Delight' and 'Lady Bird'... I wanted to do more than play tenor sax. I wanted to write."

Une autre influence majeure de Golson était le saxophoniste de swing Don Byas. Golson avait également été très influencé par Charlie Parker, qu’il avait entendu jouer pour la première fois lors d’un concert de l’Académie de Musique de Philadelphie en 1945. Golson précisait: “After we heard that concert that night, our lives changed. It was epochal, what was happening then.”

C’est après avoir entendu Parker que Golson avait commencé à développer son jeu très personnel combinant la chaleur et la fluidité des autres saxophonistes aux innovations harmonieuses de Bird.

Golson travaillait avec l’orchestre de Lionel Hampton à l’Apollo Theater de Harlem en 1956 lorsqu’il avait appris que le trompettiste Clifford Brown, avec qui il avait joué dans le groupe de Dameron de 1953 à 1958, était mort dans un accident d’automobile. Dans une entrevue accordée au magazine Downbeat en 1961, Golson avait décrit ainsi sa complicité avec Brown: "At the time of his death, Brownie was going in his direction more determinedly than anyone I've ever seen. Really, the last two years of his life, he got a hold of what he wanted to do. His imagination was infinite. He always had a bag of surprises."

Golson avait été tellement bouleversé par la mort de Brown qu’il avait composé une pièce en son honneur intitulée ‘’I Remember Clifford.’’ La pièce est devenue depuis un classique du jazz.

Après avoir quitté le groupe de Dameron, Golson s’était joint aux formations de Lionel Hampton, Johnny Hodges (avec qui il avait fait une tournée avec John Coltrane en 1954), Earl Bostic et Dizzy Gillespie, avec qui il avait participé à une tournée financée par le Département d’État.

Golson s’était ensuite joint aux Jazz Messengers d’Art Blakey avec qui il avait enregistré l’album ‘’Moanin’’’.

De 1959 à 1962, Golson avait co-dirigeé le groupe Jazztet avec le trompettiste Art Farmer. Le pianiste McCoy Tyner et le joueur de trombone Curtis Fuller faisaient aussi partie de la formation. En 1960, dans le cadre de sa participation au Jazztet, Golson avait remporté le New Star Award décerné par le magazine DownBeat. Le groupe a enregistré six albums avant de cesser ses activités en 1962. LE COMPOSITEUR

En 1963, à la demande de Quincy Jones et peut-être aussi pour mieux gagner sa vie, Golson s’était installé en Californie pour se concentrer sur la composition et le travail de studio. À cette époque, Golson avait composé de la musique pour des séries télé comme ‘’Mannix’’, ‘’Ironside’’, ‘’Room 222’’, ‘’M*A*S*H**’’, ‘’The Patridge Family’’ et ‘’Mission Impossible.’’ Il avait également écrit des thèmes publicitaires pour des compagnies comme Canada Dry, Carnation, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Clorox, Dodge, General Telephone, Gillette, MacDonald’s, Mattel, Nissan, Pepsi Cola, Texaco et Heinz.

Au milieu des années 1970, Golson avait effectué un retour sur scène. Golson, qui n’avait pas touché à son saxophone depuis dix ans, avait décrit ainsi la sensation qu’il avait ressenti lorsqu’il avait recommencé à jouer de son instrument: "It was like I'd never played the instrument; it felt like a piece of plumbing from the kitchen in my hand. My mind seemed like it wanted to go ahead--my fingers were those of a dead man; my lips were like ripe tomatoes. It was quite a physical struggle. I had no muscles in my lips or jaws... I sounded so bad, I was even embarrassed for my wife to hear me!" Golson avait aussi recommencé à enregistrer, collaborant notamment avec Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw et Pharoah Sanders.

Selon le critique Scott Yanow, à l’époque, le style de Golson au saxophone avait énormément évolué et s’apparentait davantage au style d’Archie Shepp et aux autres musiciens du free jazz qu’à son style original influencé par le swing de Don Byas. En 1982, après une tournée au Japon avec Art Farmer, Golson avait complètement réorganisé son Jazztet pour l’adapter aux nouvelles réalités du jazz.

La nouvelle édition du groupe avait été accueillie avec enthousiasme, tant par les amateurs que par la critique. Golson expliquait: "The reception for the revived Jazztet was so warm last year that it was almost like coming back home this second time. The enthusiasm of the audiences has been very encouraging for us--it gives us some incentive to go on in that same direction."

La reprise des activités du Jazztet n’avait cependant rien à voir avec la nostalgie. Golson poursuivait: "In twenty years, as you might expect... our musical approach is just a little different from the way it was then. Although there's some nostalgic things, like 'Whisper Not' ... I've written a lot of new tunes, and we've moved away somewhat from the hard, straight-up-and-down, strict harmonic kind of approach."

Véritable ambassadeur du jazz, Golson avait participé en 1987 à une tournée organisée par le Département d’État qui l’avait conduit du sud-est asiatique à la Nouvelle-Zélande, en passant par l’Indonésie, la Malaisie, la Birmanie et Singapour. Plus tard, l’agence Philip Morris l’avait envoyé à Bangkok, en Thailande, composer de la musique pour le Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.

À la fin des années 1990 et au début des années 2000, Golson avait fait une tournée avec le groupe toute étoile Roots (dont il était le directeur musical depuis 1995) ainsi qu’avec le trio de Keith Copeland. Il continuait aussi à composer parallèlement.

De 1998 à 2000, Golson avait participé à une tournée intitulée ‘’Jazz Messengers - A Legacy to Art Blakey’’, qui lui avait fait traverser tous les États-Unis, en plus de le conduire en Europe et au Japon. Comme son nom l’indique, la tournée avait pour but de rendre hommage à son ancien mentor Art Blakey, qui était décédé en octobre 1990. Lors des funérailles de Blakey, la pièce ‘’Blues March’’ de Golson avait d’ailleurs été interprétée pour lui rendre hommage.

En 2004, Golson avait fit une brève apparition dans le film ‘’The Terminal’’ avec Tom Hanks. Dans le film, on faisait allusion à la photo ‘’A Great Day in Harlem’’ sur laquelle Golson apparaissait aux côtés de plusieurs autres musiciens de jazz. Dans le film, le personnage principal, Viktor Navorski, interprété par Hanks, avait voyagé depuis l’Europe pour obtenir l’autographe de Golson. La composition de Golson, ‘’Something in B Flat’’, peut aussi être entendue sur une scène où Viktor est en train de peindre et de redécorer une partie le terminus de l’aéroport. Dans une autre scène, on voit Golson interpréter la pièce ‘’Killer Joe.’’

Benny Golson est mort à sa résidence de Manhattan le 21 septembre 2024. Il était âgé de 95 ans. La mort de Golson a été annoncée par son agent Jason Franklin. HONNEURS ET RÉCOMPENSES Benny Golson a reçu plusieurs prix et récompenses au cours de sa carrière.

Golson, qui a remporté un prix de la Fondation Guggenheim en 1994, a vu sa carrière être couronnée deux ans plus tard par la remise d’un NEA Jazz Masters Award de la National Endowment for the Arts. La même année, le programme de Jazz de l’Université Howard avait créé un prix en son honneur nommé le ‘’Benny Golson Jazz Master Award.’’

En octobre 2007, la Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation avait décerné à Golson le Mellon Living Legend Legacy Award, lors d’une cérémonie tenue au Lincoln Center. Le même mois, l’Université de Pittsburgh lui avait accordé l’International Academy of Jazz Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award. Le prix lui avait été remis dans le cadre du 37e concert annuel de Jazz au Carnegie Music Hall. En novembre 2009, Goldson a été intronisé au sein de l’Academy of Jazz Hall of Fame.

Benny Golson est le seul artiste de jazz toujours vivant à avoir composé au moins huit standards de jazz. Véritable institution, Golson a enregistré plus de trente albums sous son nom en plus d’avoir participé à des centaines d’enregistrements d’autres artistes. Golson a aussi plus de 300 compositions à son crédit. Au cours de sa carrière de plus de soixante ans, Golson a également écrit un nombre incalculable d’arrangements pour des artistes comme Count Basie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Quincy Jones, Peggy Lee, Carmen McRae, Anita O’Day, Oscar Peterson, Diana Ross, Mek Torme, George Shearing, Dusty Springfield et plusieurs autres.

Passionné d’éducation, Golson a aussi fait des lectures au Lincoln Center et aux universités de New York et de Chicago. Loin de se limiter à la musique, les conférences de Golson abordaient aussi des questions comme le racisme et les relations raciales. Dans une entrevue accordée au Irish Times, Golson avait tenu à préciser que ses préoccupations n’étaient pas tant personnelles qu’historiques. Il avait déclaré: “[Racism] doesn’t disturb me and it didn’t disturb me when I was coming up as a kid. Racism? I wanted to play the music. I turned a deaf ear to all that stuff.”

Golson est également lauréat de doctorats honorifiques de la Berklee School of Music et du William Paterson College de Wayne, au New Jersey. Grand pédagogue, il a aussi dirigé des ateliers dans plusieurs universités à travers le monde.

Outre ‘’I Remember Clifford’’, plusieurs des compositions de Golson sont devenues des standards du jazz: ‘’Stablemates’’, ‘’Killer Joe’’, ‘‘Whisper Not’’, ‘’Along Came Betty’’, ‘’Are You Real ?’’, ‘’Blues March’’, etc.

En 1958, au cours d’une entrevue accordée au magazine DownBeat, Golson avait ainsi décrit sa philosophie de compositeur: "I feel that the best contribution any writer can make is to create compositions that are impressive, meaningful, and lasting. I think all serious writers consciously or unconsciously strive for this." Dans une autre entevue accordée deux ans plus tard, Golson avait précisé: "Basically, I'd like to stay simple. I'd like to write melodically, and pretty harmonically... Although I'm not consciously looking for it, maybe I want something that's easy to remember.... Beauty can be simple, beauty can be simplicity."

Lorsqu’on demandait à Golson laquelle de ses activités il trouvait la plus satisfaisante entre la composition et sa carrière de musicien, il répondait simplement: “It’s like having two wives. Sergei Pavlovich vs Curtis Blaydes

If Sergei Pavlovich (18-1) was anything other than Russian, I'd have to imagine the man would be a huge star. A big jacked heavyweight on a 6 fight win streak where he stopped all 6 opponents in the first round? Sounds like a star to me.

Pavlovich has KOed his way to an interim title fight that will likely be elevated to the actual heavyweight title when Jones and Stipe retire.

Pavlovich will take on the UK's Tom Aspinall (11-3) in the co-main event of UFC 295 this Saturday (Nov. 11) for the interim heavyweight title.
