Curious add-ons: additions and deletions, Episode 11 (Part 7)
A bit of a warning: photo-heavy post
Eleven episodes in, and it is safe to say that I love these versions of Ron and Toto. Don’t get me wrong Akira Amano hasn’t done anything wrong, it is just these RonToto are kinder and more codependent from each other that I am 110 per cent sure they’d compete with that kind of codependency from the manga RonToto, and anime RonToto would win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They diminished Toto’s comedic childlike expressions on this episode removing the giggle on Toto’s part, for example, when he asked Ron if the latter had a friend. Junya Enoki, for his part, admitted that because Toto is a grown man and a police officer, he doesn’t need to act cute all the time. The reason this scene is much more tender than in the manga. The “what’s so funny?” question from Ron was omitted and instead the anime writers made Toto stammer with his “N-not even… one?” After hearing Ron’s answer that he considers Toto to be his friend, he replies with a much more humbled “I am glad to hear it” and not “Gee, thanks.” And then the blush on Toto’s face as if he is darn proud and happy because after all they have been through, Ron treats him more special than the others, that is being allowed to be closer to him by becoming his friend.
Tumblr media
Truth be told, these instances of blushing from the main characters would turn me into mush.
Another passage omitted from the manga and the new dialogue has become a Sherlock BBC reference in the anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kawasemi san: “If you want to hide a tree, hide it in a forest.” (Episode 11)
Tumblr media
SH from Sherlock BBC: “If you wanted to hide a tree then the best place to do it is a forest, wouldn’t you say? People would just walk past it, not knowing - not able to decipher the message.” (Episode 2, Season 1, The Blind Banker)
Surely, one of these days I’d write a list of all these Sherlock BBC references: from the manga to anime, because they are so many. Of course, it could have been the translator’s choice in the end.
Continuity problems in the manga are explained in the anime.
Tumblr media
a) the reason Ron eats dangos 🍡 on the train;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
b) Constable Kimyou, whose surname doesn’t mean “strange”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
c) Ron accompanying Toto was not a chance where he got an email from the neurology institute, but it was a planned or let’s just say a convenient way to ride with Toto on the train at the same time going to Aichi with a purpose.
Tumblr media
The anime crew adding this scene. Toto’s joyful reaction upon seeing his friend again after witnessing Kawasemi’s slump in person. Probably Toto was relieved and had missed his friend so much after their abrupt and odd parting at the Nagoya train station, in which he had so many questions that were partly answered at the end of the episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you see the puppets and the No. 96 (Ron’s scar which has become part of him) from the shop? Not only they increased the price from ¥900 (in 2021) to ¥960 (2023) but Ron’s puppets Kamo-kyun (platypus) and Eli Pyon (frill-necked lizard) are on sale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This ending that fuels a few questions. Ron was sort of refusing to look at Toto as he explained his meeting with Dr. Mofu and her subsequent referrals to the other medical professionals concerning his pathological condition to pressure the criminals to suicide. Instead he looked at his reflection on the glass train window, Toto’s delightful enthusiastic voice had become white noise. This Ron is more pessimistic and not so much looking forward to the therapy and its possible outcome. I wonder if the anime writers (Jackson Ou wrote the episode with a storyboard from Shingo Tamaki who were also responsible to previous Kawasemi episode) would deviate a bit from the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two more episodes and I don’t want it to end. There are so many materials available and it seems we haven’t scratched the surface yet. The tension is getting bigger. It would be nicer if they are given the second cour and end the first season with the Plateau Aubege arc. A perfect ending to establish a canon RonToto.

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.
#fantasy high#dimension 20#fhjy#fhjy spoilers#fantasy high junior year#fig faeth#ruben hopclap#lucy frostblade#the rat grinders#adaine abernant#kipperlilly copperkettle#watching fig terrorize him like girl!!! we don’t even know if he’s guilty!!!!#this might just be for me but i do not think 5 teenagers willingly brutally killed their friend idk#like there just has to be some other element to it and i am very scared to find out what that was#what if they were put in a position where they felt there was/there was no other choice… like oh my god#my comedy brain is having fun but my ‘this is a teenager’ brain is in such deep distress all the time this season#the rat grinders i trust brennan to not make u cartoonishly evil so i am holding u as gently as i can in my confused shaky hands#also with the devil’s nectar i’ve been wondering why they all seem so well-adjusted & now i’m curious if they’ve been intentionally-#changing their memories in a way so that either the trauma is lesser or they think they aren’t guilty. idk#but it seems like from how gertie was talking she was making it more recently so the well adjustedness from early jy doesn’t quite add up#they could have another source maybe??? idk i’m just low stakes 4 a.m. spitballing here#there’s also the strong possibility that they’re aware of what happened but they weren’t the ones who killed lucy. idk who knows#the way you could probably devil’s nectar yourself into believing it wasn’t your fault someone died… CRAZY IMPLICATIONS!!! CRAZY IDEA!!!#anyways the bad kids & the rat grinders don’t ever have to like each other but i do wonder if at least some of those kids deserve a chance

Hear Me Out: Reverse GT Alien Abduction.
We are the invaders. Humanity has long since fantasized about hordes of unknown, giant flying monstrosities raining down from the heavens onto our small blue orb in the lonely universe. Huddling In secret in the recesses of our homes as fellow humans are abducted to who knows where, never to be seen again. Families torn apart and for what reason? Don't they know we are people too?
only...
That's the exact role humanity plays, no- not as the victims, but as the oppressors. All throughout the galaxy known for their greed and insatiable curiosity, their ever-hungering thirst for knowledge and the unknown, trampling over any and all species that sought to slow them down.
So, when Humanity found a planet with creatures who looked nearly identical to their own, but at a fraction of the size and power...
their fate was inevitable.

hooof, i might make a part 2 at some point soon! you guys know i can't let a cruel scenario not have a happy ending xD
if anybody thinks the lighting looks weird- its supposed to imply someone opened up a door to go into this 'pet' shop and light is shining in. (metaphorical/literal ray of hope, maybe this human will be nice lol~)

oc time again! + her town & culture (heavily inspired by pre-roman italic populations)
she is suri sauthon (she/her). her story is linked to my swtor imperial agent, tar'x, but most of her life except for the one year away where she meets him, is spent in a town in the mountains of mirial.
Tumblr media
despite mirial being cold and desert, and many cities developing underground, her town flourishes thanks to a force nexus, venerated in the form of an ancient, sacred, alive crystal. the ecosystem of that mountain depended on what "the horned crystal" was capable of giving them, but mirialans couldn't live off of that alone, so they developed trade and some rudimental technology, even if oftentimes it was bought thanks to the highly profitable trade of a plant used to make medicines that slowed down aging and had overall healing properties.
note: everything that's generated by this nexus has these healing properties BUT they have to be processed, except for those who bathed in the waters of the cavity under the crystal - the "real" nexus, but not the worshipped one. the waters were sacred but they were not thought to be miraculous, unlike the crystal, who instead was thought of as the keystone of the ecosystem: without it, everything would fall apart (and that is partially true: the cavity was the "real" nexus but thanks to the crystal, also strong in the force, the properties were spread all over the mountains). those who bathed in the cavity's waters - so, all of the town, who had a sort of baptism there - could eat the plant, make whatever food with it, and not only that plant, but everything generated by the nexus, that, again, had similar properties. this allowed people to live up to normal life-spans without advanced medicines or, much, really. to those who didn't live there, though, after the processing, had incredible effects, slowing down aging - for those who took it regularly - and making people able to live up to half a century more than the average]
originally, there were four tribes of nomads that lived thanks to horned farm animals that decided to settle down into one bigger town and other smaller settlements, to live off of transhumance. this division of the tribes stayed into the political and social organization: every person belonged to one tribe specifically, and had slightly different rituals and culture. for examples, each tribe had their own priests and healers, with different techniques and traditions. the town, tho, was guided by a group of people in the high priesthood, a position you could reach only by having earned the trust of all tribes. those high priests had many roles: they guided the people into sacred processions common to all the tribes, they managed the trading with outsiders, they did the maintenance of the temple of the summit (the one that functioned as casket to the crystal) and created a special liquid to offer the crystal that helps it grow.
Tumblr media
this particular temple was important because 1. it was very visible, from every angle of the town, and it became an important identity symbol; 2. it stored the venerated horned crystal; 3. it had the altar where sacrifices were made for the crystals. that altar had a hole connected to the cavity, that allowed the liquids to reach the underground; 4. it had various symbols: statues representing each tribe + the high priesthood, and typical mirialan tattoos carved into the wood of the trees that served as columns for the temple, symbolizing 8 values that who dared to enter HAD to have; 5. it was on the way to an important lake (called "mother lake" because the lake the town was built around to depended on the waters of that other lake) where they traveled to in important processions; 6. it was said that a the wizard who unified the tribes made it with its magic, making the plant grow to hold the temple's roof. this wizard was, actually, a force user, obv.
BACK TO HER THOUGH: she's daughter of one of the high priests, who was in charge of managing the trades with outsiders, and lives in a house on the mountains with her mother and him. her parents are from different tribes (that's one of the things that earned him trust from the 4 tribes): when a child is born from two different tribes, they don't pick one to allign to, but they're usually linked automatically to the one with more relatives in it (in her case, the father's tribe: she had many uncles and aunts on his side while her mom only had one sister).
later, though, she got quite tied to her mother's tribe due to a mysterious illness that only her mother's tribe healer was able to cure. she spent 4 years (from 10 to 14 years old) living with the healer and learned her secrets. to better study, she wrote them down. when she returned home, she studied to become a priestess with her father. at 22 (the average age: you can't become priest before your 20s), she was supposed to take a test and become a priestess, but the healer of her mother's tribe died and the tribe asked her to take her place. she couldn't technically do that, but both tribes estimated both her and her parents and she was allowed to become both. she then decided to try to become a high priestess, and became one at 25 (a quite young age). being part of the council, she tried to convince the various tribe healers to unite their knowledges and write them down, and eventually made it. healers still remained tribe based but they now had an "upper, inter-tribe level" similar to high priesthood.
years later, the sacred horned crystal is stolen from the temple by some Hutt mercenaries looking for a profit. given the trust she has earned from all the tribes and the fact that her father is the high priest that deals with outsiders (and she's been hearing stories and advice about it since she was little), she is the one tasked with getting it back. without the growing crystal, the keystone to their ecosystem, the village would have lasted only a few years. in hrr quest, she meets imperial intelligence agent tar'x laran and, as they "solve the mystery" and fight to have it back, they get closer. they'll get married and have a daughter, Vegoia (who's the only one who actually will get to the plot of my story. this was all background)
#i overdeveloped this part of the background. IT'S QUITE LITERALLY USELESS. like. Vegoia will have so few memories of it (she'll become jedi)#i will make a post about her too when I'll finish designing her and outlining her story BUT that may be difficult cuz the frame for the mai#story is quite difficult to match with how developed the other stories are getting and i have to figure it Much Stuff yet#so I'm using these post to like. fix a certain part lf the lore because even my own notes are getting older and messy. better to start over#ANYWAY for those curious & who are still reading (if u exist. WTF THANK U!!); my main story is actually a research file in the jedi archive#BASICALLY i was trying to write my own story for years but then i watched a video (tcw doesn't hold up by sheev talks i think) and i finall#understood how to frame all of these stories together in a way that i feel can add to the star wars lore (because. the others were just#like. okay but who cares unless me? and i did want to have a cool frame that maybe some nerd would be interested in looking into)#so: when ahsoka anakin and obi return from mortis; they tell the council about it (yoda knows about it in s6). sheev talks complained that#it was incredibly full of stuff that was done so poorly it could ruin a big part of the original sw story itself and it was never brought u#again. and honestly i agree. SO my story is about a jedi that is tasked with research on the celestials & by having him figure out stuff i#can minimize/limit/reframe some of the controversial things in there (i love mortis arc so bad but i also agree with his critic. I'll Fix™)#so. many stories will be about people who have previously seen the celestials or have been to mortis one way or another (pre-tcw obv) & hav#had experience & knowledge that the researcher is looking for. so i get to have an anthology with many stories#and have a cool frame I'm intrested in developing + i can experiment with different storytelling styles depending on how he finds out stuff#+ there was another sw story with a similar frame i think? so if i decide to write the story as if it was the file itself and not the searc#i can have even a REFERENCE of what a file like that is supposed to be. LIKE. IT ALL FITS!!!#sw#star wars#swtor#the old republic#star wars oc#imperial agent#star wars fanart#mirialan oc#mirialan#star wars story#star wars the old republic#oc: suri sauthon

Curious add-ons: The Continuity, et al., for the Shibuya arc: Eps 14, 15 & 16
If I were the famous Scramble Crossing of Shibuya, I might scream first from a huge number of people crossing my streets and lastly, the mangaka’s choice of using it as a crime scene. It is also a coincidence that Junya Enoki’s characters have become part of it. First as Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen then on RKDD as Toto Isshiki. No wonder Youhei Azakami and Enojun talked about Shibuya in their recent after-show talk.
Azakami: A lot of things happen in Shibuya.
Enojun: It seems that there are quite a few places where bad spirits gather around open objects. It's something like feng shui or anything like that.
Azakami: Shibuya is a relatively power spot, but from what I've heard, Shibuya is a bit lower compared to other cities (like Shinjuku).
The two rambled on the cities around Tokyo that contain more bad spirits and were relieved that only fictional stories happen around Shibuya. Enojun: “It only happens in fiction.” (I recommend listening to it bc of the duo’s goofiness. At the end of the radio show Enojun received his early birthday cake and greetings from Azakami-kun and the Kadokawa staff as it’d be his birthday last October 19th.)
I didn’t do the usual analysis per episode as it didn’t feel like it called for it. The animators stayed true with the manga most of the time.
The arc covered from Chapters 22 to 27 of the manga. Now that we have an idea how they divided them into into episodes, it highlighted the importance of Winter Moriarty in the upcoming episodes, who Enojun complimented as a "cute and amazing character."
So far the anime crew added a continuity intro for Ron on the 14th episode to refresh our memories highlighting the last scenes of the 13th ep from the first season. After Toto and Spitz have left Ron alone, he began to recollect what happened. We, the audience, in turn, had a good look at Ron’s apartment. Those vials in one of the shelves, could they be some fragrance oil??? Samples of blood? Then there are gemstones like the huge amethyst and the ammonite fossil that caught my eye. They have given us a glimpse of Ron’s own version of “cabinet of curiosities.” Like a true descendant of Sherlock Holmes, collecting things, which may or may not be useful in his profession-vocation, has also become a trait.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Retitling this as “Shibuya Apocalypse Serial Murder Case” instead of “The Case of Shibuya Revelation Serial Murder,” AA’s use of the Bible verse with the numbers 96 was well thought out just like the first time I read it. All those 96 references (the periodic table element iridium, Bach’s Miracle symphony) came into play.
It was almost one to one rendition except for scenes like the manga panel for Chapter 22 where they showed Toto’s “tired of all your shit” face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anime crew added Toto’s reaction to Ron’s blatant lying and Amamiya falling for it.
I don’t know how many times the anime crew has given us so many shots of Ron’s Sinatra blue eyes that tend to be so hypnotic. I would say, his scar too as anime Toto’s reaction to it comes stronger than in the manga. The way he bumbles when Ron has caught him looking at it is so cute.
Tumblr media
What’s up with Deltard Hotel though? Or was it a typo error from Crunchyroll ?
Tumblr media
Winter flipping their hair !!!! (The anime crew knows the fans’ Winter thirst! )
In order not to establish Winter’s “gender identity” this early on the anime crew successfully used words to mar it. Instead of designating Winter as a “male” like what AA did at first in the manga, Wataru Watari utilised the gender not specific/-neutral wording “agent” in describing Winter. Making a good spin on Spitz’s assumption that “Winter” could probably be a code name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And once again the anime crew has added these scenes, before saying farewell to the Shibuya arc onto the next, we find Ron on his chair contemplating again of the events that happened in the last few days. Finally, struggling, trying to put the puzzles in their corresponding places before making his final conclusion of what Winter, the “agent,” meant for his own case. Parallelism it is. We started with this arc finding Ron on his chair ruminating, Episode 14, in order of importance: Ron’s chair/a bird’s eye view of the living room, his neck scar, his blue eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the scenes at the end of Episode 16.
