not having discourse with you guys until you read "Gothic incest: Gender, sexuality and transgression" by Jenny DiPlacidi (jstor) and come prepared to critically examine how the merging of erotic/familial love in gothic literature has historically been used to disrupt the gendered boundaries that define the genre....

I've been holding a General Conference watch party for the queer mormon club at my institute, and a couple of them came, but mostly I've just been gaining missionaries slowly throughout the day as they realized that a private, more fun, watch party with food and activities was happening in the building

My work, Pop Culture Classroom, is closing down due to lack of funding, among other issues. <Go download out FREE resources for educators/parents before they're gone!!! And while it's not exactly tied to the current political climate...it's also not not, in it's way. In the broad way. I'm really heartbroken. Not only am I loosing a job I adore with a lot of really special people I also adore, the world is loosing a really cool resource that...there isn't really anything else like. This is my last project with PCC, "One Day" made in connection with a student in the LEAD program. LEAD was a Youth Violence Prevention program, where me and my co-worker went into a local jail/high school and used comics to help the student work on their literacy skills and also work through a lot of what was going on in their lives through art. We would teach them things like how story lines worked, how to communicate through art, how to organize and follow through on projects. One of my favorite lessons was showing them how allegory's work and teaching them about the prisoners in the cave. I could see the gears working on their faces while they learned about that one. These were rough kids, but they also were KIDS. They wanted to talk about the newest parts of Baruto and learn how to draw teddy bears. They got excited about getting cute bookmarks. There were less than 10 kids per unit, so I know them well. For each unit, we worked to get them to make a "penciled" comic piece that was then taken and inked/colored/lettered by professional comic artist. My student, we'll call him Jake, was always ready with a hug, and always very excited about class. He first made a comic about a baby bear taking revenge on the hunter who killed his mother which was sad and gory and silly. And in the last 20 minutes of our last class (with me having just learned this was going to be my LAST class) he and I were talking about the future, and his girl, and I nudged him to make a comic about that. A gift to her and himself about where he wants to be when he's out of here. He busted this out in like...5 minutes. It just poured out.
Tumblr media
I helped him pick out places away from our city that he wanted to take her. I sketched him, and had him tell me what she looked like so which ever artist got it had a visual reference-no photos allowed of course. He was so happy talking about all this. We had a big hug at the end. And then I was lucky enough to be the professional artist hired for his.
Tumblr media
I am going to miss this work so much. But I am so greatful that I got this to be my last hurrah here, and I know that Jake will treasure it. (Easter egg: The art in the bedroom is previous projects he finished with the program)

Character A cant be shipped with character B because character A likes the opposite sex canonically and has a crush on Character C! One word. Bisexuality. Another few words. People can love more than one person at the same time.

hypothetically, could a cat refuse an honor title? i'm assuming dishonor titles are forced, but i'm curious if it's the same case with honor titles. like if a cat doesn't want to be reminded of whatever caused them to earn their title (i.e. if it was particularly traumatic for them), could they reject their name?
It would be pretty shocking, but yes. You can refuse an Honor Title.
Basically the same level of shock as Nightheart's little stunt, but a lot easier for the Clan to accept. After all, it's supposed to be a reward! Some would think you're being ungrateful and snobbish ("what? Like your accomplishment was nothing? What does that make the rest of us, buttfeathers?"), others confused, some sympathetic.
Depends on the cat, depends on the Clan.
Dishonor Titles, nope! You're stuck with them! Those are a punishment. Refuse it, and a worse punishment is in store. They're bad but usually not worse than exile. They're not meant to be permanent unless you did something suuuuuper bad.

I am so thankful for the excellent reviews from our 'Didactic in Higher Education' group. Today, I gave a short class on distinguishing techno music from other genres. They said, 'You'll be a great academic!' ❤

Hey, you know how I sometimes drop a random historical comic I made?
Tumblr media
Those are part of Colorful History, a collection of FREE short (2-6 page) full color historical comics complete with lessons plans, discussion questions, additional readings and behind the scenes of the comic being made. Anyone can download them ALL FOR FREE HERE.
I am hired to make those through Pop Culture Classroom (My Anime in America, written and drawn by yours truely, is in this issue) that offers them as a free resource to educators. This year they are running a fundraiser to produce more and I need you guys, especially the nerdy educators out there, to share the HECK out of this!!
PCC works really hard to find less explored bit of history to turn into comics for educators to use. They make sure that the people creating the comics are part of the sub-culture it's about, whether that is me, a life long weeb writing about anime, or R. Alan Brooks and Marcus Kwame Anderson writing about the Harlem Renaissance:
Tumblr media
This is a great project that needs some community to help fund it. Please check it out, please share, let's get these comics going!!
