below the cut is stock photos of what is a trike/tricycle in the philippines (what they’re riding on) if you're unfamiliar!! and also some rambling about my heartshackle trio ;;;

i referenced the one on the left, there's usually supposed to be a screen where ace is popping out (and also i think deuce would prefer riding the one on the right where it's an actual motorcycle and not just a bike)

i like to think that the trio found this tricycle trashed and broken somewhere and they tried to fixed it up so they could all take a ride on it

ace and deuce kinda fought who’ll be the first to ride it and deuce only won because they all agreed deuce was the one who actually knew (for the most part) how to fix the thing

all three of them are childhood friends who grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same elementary school. unfortunately in high school they ended up in different schools, but they all still remained close friends 🥹

grim exists but as a regular cat who “belongs” to yuuna (yuuna was just grim’s favorite out of the three). technically he’s just a neighborhood stray, yuuna can’t really keep him as a pet at home (and neither can ace/deuce) but somehow grim keeps finding the heartshackle trio whenever they’re all together. and so grim just became part of the group.

yuuna has a physical album of photos dedicated to all the times they go to jollibee. they take a photo with the jollibee statue every single time they all go there.

One day you realise that there is just a bit too much food on the table. It takes eating with the others to truly notice, but it starts with Grim complaining.

"We've been eating the same thing for days now!" And you laugh because it's true. After eating it fresh the first day, you tend to pack up and store the rest equally in the fridge and freezer because, yes, it's a lot. Dishes that are soups, or meals that are cooked in the larger pots and pans. Food that is to be served with rice on the side, portions that are bigger than your face. That isn't to say that you had a lot of thaumarks on you as you're just good at making bulk purchases worth it.

Everyone laughs at Grims moping, remarking of how he should be greatful you're feeding him at all. The banter is great.

But you're picking at your packed lunch now.

Why do you cook so much? Why do you reach for the bigger pots and pans? Why are your portions always for more than one?

From the fog of your mind, you see... your kitchen. Or you think it's your kitchen. It's not the kitchen back at Ramshackle, but the one from before Ramshackle. You're bustling around the counter, chatting to a faceless figure by the table, and reaching for seasonings without even looking. You're opening cabinets and finding what you need easily and asking the figure to make some rice to accompany whatever is in that pot. There's the squeals of children and hearty laughter from the other room. And hands, there's a hand at the small of your back and you think it's a motherly touch because how else can you describe the gentle way they press you to the side of their body.

For the next few days you can't eat properly. There's weight at your gut that substitutes for food and you don't make anything more. When your friends come over to invade the living room of Ramshackle, you don't have much snacks to offer them.

Peering into the fridge only reveals the stacks of containers of food you were eating days prior. You're mulling about maybe something you can make for them when,

"Whoa, talk about excess. Grim wasn't kidding." Ace's voice is right behind you.

"Ugh, sorry guys. i don't think I have anything proper to really feed you guys--"

"Is that some sort of egg salad?" Deuce's hand slithers forward to grab at one of the containters. "You have bread?" Nodding you gesture to the other cabinet. "Then I'll snack on this-- Er, if you wouldn't mind."

Epel peers from the doorway. "You don't happen to haf' some meat in 'er do ya?" Your fingers linger, before meekly pulling out a corrisponding tupperware.

"It's a bit stiff though, Epel."

"Hah, I'll jus' throw it on tha' stove or somthing. If it's still tough, I dun' care. Sometimes just gotta eat the greasy foods." He takes the tupperware and slaps it into a pan to heat it up. The aroma of sizzling meat is quick to attract both Sebek and Jack who add to the noise of chatter amongst the others, the former mostly.

You find yourself to the side, watching as they scour through your leftovers, opening and nodding at the meals inside before choosing which to heat up. And it's loud, but not grating. They're navigating through your space with expertice, slipping past each other and peering into cabinets. Jack's making rice and Sebek is counting the plates (whilst also making sounds whenever he sees a chip in the odd one or two). Over the stove Epel and Ace are jerking their hands into the pan, nipping their fingers to the corner pieces of the meat to just 'check if it's ready to eat'. Gathering the spoons and forks, Deuce nibbles on a piece of his egg salad sandwich before disappearing in the living area where everyone is setting up.

The dinner table has been set. You don't feel entirely there, floating to a cushion on the floor as your left overs are bought over to the table plate-by-plate. Everyone sits around you, Grim settled into your lap as he nibbles on a piece of fried fish, and they're passing the dishes around.

You've eaten these things before but you've always eaten them with Grim or alone when Grim takes his naps early. Instead of one set of cutlery scraping at porcelain, there's multiple sets-- a symphony playing to their hunger as they gather more to pile onto their plates.

I imagine being in twisted wonderland and asking for some sort of cultural dish, and then it'd just taste *Wong*... Like- it's twisted wonderland. It's now yuu's world, so why would it taste the same? Like the same way certain dishes are prepared differently regionally, it would probably have different ingredients right?

Yuu, randomly one day: "You know what I miss the most? Tamales. I really want tamales."

Ace and Deuce, wondering what the fuck they are going on about: "Yuu...just go buy some."

Yuu, about to cry: "Really?"

*Cue both boys immediately finding tamales for Yuu the next day*

Yuu, about to take a bite: "I don't know what to say, I haven't had some in so long,- oh."

Deuce: "What's wrong Yuu?"

Yuu, crying because this doesn't taste at all like home:

Ace: "Did you grab the wrong thing??"

Deuce: "I don't know! I just asked the worker for tamales and she handed me these!"

It started as a joke between Gloomurai and MuscleRed to compare their duolingo streaks and see who can get a higher score.

Riddle found it intriguing and dabbled for quite a while before it got a bit stale to him. There's better ways to learn language in his eyes.

Cater doesn't do it but he makes the Spanish or Vanish memes

No one expected Malleus to even be able to use a phone well enough for him to be on his day 1087 streak. It is the only way he knows how to use it. The little owl is like his Gao Gao Dragon and needs daily enrichment! Doesn't see what all the fuss about the owl being a menace. Clearly you haven't been taking good care of Duo.

However none of them compare to Yuu, who's painstakingly taking notes as they're learning two languages at once from the app since their own language doesn't exist in TWST. Almost a year here and they still don't know honorifics but they do know how to ask if someones boyfriend is a horse with various slurs picked up by students.

So, ahem, here goes my yapping as to why they're dressed like this

I made this art for my fan event Twisting Your World, and to sum the event up, it's basically about introducing Twst characters to your Yuu/MC's culture.

Yuurei is Japanese, and in Japanese culture, there is this festival/ritual called "Setsubun," which celebrates the end of winter and the start of spring

In Setsubun, there are two main figures: the Oni and the Okame/Otafuku. The Okame represents good luck and is the opposite of Oni, who represents evil and bad luck.

A very common practice of Setsubun, in families, consists of children throwing beans at the Oni (an adult wearing the Oni mask) to repel bad luck.

When humans throw beans the Oni, Okame smiles at it to turn it into a good being.

Here is an example of the Oni and the Okame masks, respectively:

Well, in the drawing I made, Yuurei is dressed as the Oni and Vil is dressed as the Okame ^^

This is how Yuurei feels towards Vil! She feels like Vil helped her to turn into a better person! A person with much more self-confidence and determination than pre-twst Yuurei could ever have imagined she could be.

"and even though my mum doesn't get breaks often she would always be there on holidays" Deuce smiled as he drank from his strawberry juice box. They had been discussing and comparing holidays as a substitute while they wait for the other first years arrive for lunch. Yuu placed a hand on their cheek as they thought of Deuce and his mother spending time together appeared in their mind.

"What about you Ace?" Jack murmured as the conversation had slowed down. Ace, picking up on this, put on a sort of wicked grin as he began to explain his traditions his family would do. Yuu had been dozing off for a while and only caught glimpses of what Ace was saying, though they did perk up when hearing something familiar.

"-though my brother's girlfriend started joining in so we had to get more supplies. It was a hassle but she got introduced to Day of the Dead." Ace finished, "Hey! Grim get your paws off my lunch"

"Boo more eating less talking" The beast spat as he plucked half of Ace's grilled cheese sandwich and stuffed it in his mouth.

"Wait-" You began, sitting up straight and looking at Ace "You guys have Day of the Dead too?" Ace nodded as Jack narrowed his eyes at the Prefect. "Is it the same in your world, Yuu?"

"Kinda I mean, I don't remember much but I know some people who traditionally celebrate it."

"Celebrate what?"

"Hi Epel, Sebek" Deuce waved as the two sat themselves at the table. "GREETINGS HUMANS" Jacks ears winced a little but he kept eating his grapes.

"Yuu was saying how they have a tradition similar to ours in their world" Ace explained nonchalantly, though Epel's eyes widened. "I thought you didn't remember anything"

Cutting off Epel, Yuu shook their head, playing with their food for a bit before pushing it to Grim. "Not really but I have slight-" "Ha! Thanks henchmen" "visions and a good familiar feeling."

"YOU MUST HAVE A TRADITION THAT CELEBRATES MALLEUS SAMA?!" It came out as a statement but Yuu found the question underneath and shook their head. "Magic doesn't exist for them, idiot" Ace pointed at his head as Sebek slammed his hands on the table. Epel shrieked, clearly not expecting it, and glared at the two. "Knock it off ya' squealin pigs". "Huh?!" and "Who you calling pigs" flew out as Yuu sat in silence. Deuce attempted to defuse the situation but that added more fuel.

Off to the side, Yuu poked their treat with a plastic fork, watching Grim eat. For once he was silent. Guess the grilled cheese was just that good.

"Henchmen, are there any traditions towards any Grims?" His signature grin appeared on his messy face.

"Nope, but there are some for cats"

"HAH?! The mighty Grim ain't no cat"

"They didn't say you were though you technically are" Jack piped in, clearly done with the yelling and somewhat food throwing beside him.

"Why you-" Grim stood to give Jack a piece of his mind but a quick glare from Yuu made him decide to finish his lunch.

"Well besides that I do know for a fact that some traditions are just apart of the culture." Grim raised his eyebrow but continued to sloppily eat, Jack pushed his tray back, though still paying attention.

"Like Halloween is like worldwide spread -sort of I think but if you traveled to a different country they would have their own 'holidays' or traditions"

"Oh like how we have Halloween?" Deuce piped in, clearly done with the Ace, Epel and Sebek combo.

"Yes, as I said it's like that but some aren't spread worldwide and are only played in that country." "That's weird" Grim said as Deuce nodded his head in agreement. "I believe it" Jack says with a stern face. Guess he takes his traditions seriously.

"There is this one called 'midsommar' where at the end of Spring large groups of people, family and friends, would form a circle around a large wreath. They hold hands and go around in circles singing."

"Sounds fucking culty" Ace spoke, his eyes widen a little. Apparently he wasn't the only one. Sebek and Epel had also stopped yelling to stare at Yuu.

"Well it kinda does but then again I might have gotten some stuff wrong, I don't actually know"

"The Great Grim will never fall for those cult tricks!" He stood and place this paws on his hips.

"I REMEMBER YOU BEING INVOLVED IN HOUSEWARDEN AZUL'S SCHEME" Sebek replied, snaring at the beast while Jack smirked.

"It's true" Ace smiled

"Hey wipe that smile off your face!" Grim pointed "You were there too"

"So was Juice!" "Wait don't bring me into this- and it's Deuce!"

"ANY OTHER TRADITIONS YOU HAVE HUMAN THAT YOU WILL SHARE"

Yuu raked their brain for a bit. It was hard to remember everything that would appear in dreams or late visions.

"Not really, I can't seem to remember"

The silence began again as eyes stared at Yuu who didn't speak. The five plus Grim gave each other looks before Grim patted their arm.

"Hey, you don't need to remember anything, make a tradition here!"

"That's a good idea holy sh-sevens" Epel remarked. Jack and Ace seeming to agree.

"What?"

"Have a tradition towards the Great Grim"

"You know what, sure" Yuu smiled as they looked at the shocked look on Grim's face before he puffed out and replaced himself with confidence.

"Are you sure Prefect" Jack whispered.

Yuu didn't answer only nodded as the school bell rang indecating another class is going to start. Yuu was too busy cleaning off Grim's mess they didn't see Ace watching.

Shocked at how casually Yuu talks about deadly animals.

“Wait, so you just had spiders the size of my hand in your house? And you just left them alone?!”

Starts calling Ace a "bloody galah" without realizing it’s an insult.

Lowkey impressed that Yuu knows how to throw a proper punch. If they ever get into a fight, he backs them up 100%.

Obsessed with the slang. Uses it wrong constantly.

“Oi, mate! Let’s hit up Sam’s for some snags, yeah? No wuckas!”

Yuu fully believes Silver is part koala because he sleeps anywhere and is unbothered by loud noises.

“You remind me of a bloke I knew back home. He fell asleep in a tree once.”

Starts carrying a spray bottle because Yuu keeps swearing in class.

Lucius actually likes Yuu because they instinctively respect him like an Aussie street cat.

Thinks Yuu’s chaotic energy is incredible.

“Wait, so your homeland is just one big Wonderland?”

Steals their hat if they ever wear one. "You don’t need this, right?"

Rollo:

Immediately assumes Yuu is more of a menace than the NRC students.

“What do you mean you used to surf in waters filled with sharks?”

His soul leaves his body when Yuu talks about deadly animals with zero concern.

“Surely you exaggerate.”

Yuu introduces everyone to Tim Tams. The entire school becomes addicted.

Someone asks Yuu what’s the most dangerous animal in Australia. Yuu: “The emus.”

Yuu doesn’t flinch when something big crashes outside. NRC students: “Aren’t you going to check?” Yuu: “Eh, probably just a possum.”

Introduces Vegemite to everyone. The reactions range from horrified (Azul) to pretending to enjoy it (Kalim) to “this is fine” (Leona).

Tries to teach everyone how to do a shoey. Vil bans it immediately.

Gets into a fistfight with a goose during a visit to Noble Bell College.

Yuu kicks off their shoes and Trein looks personally offended.

They call the cafeteria the ‘tuck shop’ and confuse everyone.

Someone asks Yuu for an energy drink recommendation. Yuu: “Yeah, nah, get a Monster. Maybe a Red Bull if you wanna fight God.”

Rook asks Yuu to track something. Yuu: sniffs air “Yeah, mate, I can track that.” (Has no idea what they’re doing but commits anyway.)

During an event in a desert-like location, Yuu just goes full Aussie survival mode. They thrive while everyone else struggles.

Someone calls Yuu soft. Yuu: "Mate, I survived living in a country where even the plants can kill ya."

They try to ride a broom and end up treating it like a surfboard.
