I am once again thinking about how much Dual Destinies Apollo Justice looks like his dad.
#like???? theres LAYERS here#the fact that the eyepatch and oversized coat arent even things he knows dhurke has adopted at this point#without even knowing he's gravitating to the same outfit his father is currently wearing#I JUST. the fact that the khura'in attorneys badge is an EYE and Apollo BLINDS HIMSELF#and we don't have the background to know that that is tantamount to saying 'I'm not fit to be a lawyer.'#and then wearing his hair looser is an obvious sign he's not caring about his appearance#but also apollo wouldn't view it as unprofessional because of course he's from a culture where long hair on men is the norm#he's just slipping a bit back into his native standards and not trying as hard to appear 'western'#the fact that dd apollo was designed first and they CHOSE to base Dhurke off what apollo looked like at his lowest#excuse me as I think about this for 1 billion years#ace attorney#aa#aa5#aa6#aa spirit of justice#aa dual destinies#ace attorney spirit of justice#ace attorney dual destinies#aa dd#aa soj#dual destinies#spirit of justice#apollo justice#dhurke sahdmadhi

hey i was curious when Peter calls Dick "dad" he calle him "tata", from what language does it come from?
since dick is romani, i tried to pull from what i could find, and 'tata' seemed to be used the most in reference to kids and their dads. i figured that when peter was a kid, he called his dad 'tata', but later on, without the influence of the parent that actually knows and lives the culture, peter was more influenced to call him 'Dad' because he forgot over time
#i actually can't tell if dick is romani on both sides or not#i think it's just on one parent's side in canon?#or has it been both?#either way peter is a mix match of a few cultures and he only really got to connect to Ben and May's#because try as they might things slip through the cracks#erinwantstowrite#ao3#ao3 fanfic#leap of faith ao3#peter parker#dick grayson#thank you for the ask!

the only thing that brings me more joy than emmrich being SO endearingly peevishly unimpressed with ingellvar pulling watcher 101 platitudes on him as a 'get out of emotional vulnerability free' card is rook's utter cheerful lack of repentance or pretence about doing it
#ask a deep personal question get a deflective answer I'm not quite sure what you expected here; the rye ingellvar story#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar#emmrich volkarin#rook's ability to say 'lmao no. mortifying ordeal of being known not on the schedule today I'm afraid' in the friendliest#and most interpersonally slippery manner possible... legendary. they tell people 'piss off (no offense)' in such a plethora#of unapologetic yet also weirdly hard to spot and non-confrontational ways.#sort of a 'sorry about that no hard feelings you didn't do anything there's just something deeply wrong with me' energy lol#save me rye rye save me etc. I just need my brain to. not today. My view on the Elrond/Galadriel kiss:
Cultures be different.
Kisses on the lips are not always sexual/romantic. (I, as an American, have kissed certain friends on the lips in completely platonic ways)
In many cultures, closed-mouthed kisses on the lips are a sign of love and emotional connection in a platonic/familial way.
Specifically American aversion to affection in any form is rotting people's brains - here, a lot of men won't even HUG each other because they think it's 'too intimate'. Other cultures kiss on the hand, cheek, forehead, nose, and yes, lips too, in completely platonic ways. [And we're not even going to get into the large portion of the population who thinks that men and women literally CANNOT be just friends, if a man and woman are close, it HAS to be romantic/sexual.]
Just because YOUR culture/personal preference reserves lip kisses for romantic/sexual feelings only doesn't mean everyone else is wrong for feeling differently.
I didn't read the kiss as Elrond secretly having romantic feelings for Galadriel at all - to me it was clear it was a platonic show of how much he cared for her and how sorry he was that they had been at odds all season (and largely in S1 too) and was afraid it was really going to be the last time he saw her. He wanted to show her just how much she meant to him - PLATONICALLY - and a tender kiss (while also using it as a distraction to slip her a lock-pick) was the way he did it.
Obviously it's ok for people to interpret it as romantic if they ship Galadriel and Elrond, but to say that's the ONLY interpretation based on your own limited cultural understanding of what a kiss could mean is just frustrating.
#rop spoilers#trop spoilers#rings of power#the rings of power#rop s2 e7#idk what else to tag this because LORD I do not want to book-only lotr fans to have something to say about this#if you like viewing the kiss as romantic - go for it!#if you don't like any romance between galadriel and elrond - there are platonic reasons people kiss#You could even see it as solely Elrond giving a distraction for slipping her the lock pick and nothing else whatsoever#Honestly my first thought was that he slipped Nenya to her in her mouth but hey - the point is that the kiss served multiple purposes#idk - ppl getting genuinely upset about it is giving me the ick and making me think they're actually just xenophobic#gonna repeat: cultures be different

I'm connecting the dots, I'm connecting them
Listen to my theory
Listen
The notion of putting in 0 effort at your job because it sucks? It's a trap. I think the human mind is not actually that good at separating things.... I think when you decide to go to something day after day and put as little effort in as possible.... I think you're teaching yourself to put little effort into Everything in your life
Has anyone tested this already
I think this is another piece of killing your own motivation
#Vio's Personal#This is making me lose my mind a little bit. Lowkey feral about this#Like the pieces are all coming together and I wasn't expecting them to#That said I only realized it because my motivation at my job has been slipping and I don't feel good about not putting in a decent level of#effort. So I committed to try and put in more effort and...... energy for other tasks went up after work...... hmm#And then I remembered a lot of basic principles in psychology and....... HMM#AND THE PRESENT CULTURE AND EVERYONE DISCUSSING BEING LOW ON MOTIVATION- idk man#A lot of factors goes into that and a lot of those factors are active on most people all the time#But I think this is another one

Dol Amroth and their Swan Knights will never not be funny to me. Because yes, swans are elegant, of course the famously noble, very Numenorean family would have that as their banner. You know what swans also are? Territorial and absolutely feral if you approach their home and nesting site. (Mute swans are particularly vicious, many swans are just aggressively defensive, mute swans are actively dicks.)
I love the idea of of Imrahil and his family meeting important people and they're so put together and regal, and then you see them in battle and they are... so scary. I love a Lothiriel who seems so smooth and demure and then will absolutely punch the throat of anyone who touches her without permission, no hesitation, you should have known better than to the touch the Princess of Dol Amroth. I love this family of beautiful noble people who defend their home so viciously that they can bring the most troops of the principalities. What? Like it's hard? A family that will not hesitate to cut you but they'll also be the symbol for nobility and honour, with a Prince that even elves know is a pretty impressive person.
Give me the family of Dol Amroth who are loving and calculated and cold and deeply efficient at dealing with threats. Ones who surprise their enemies by being three steps ahead at all times, but 'Elphir could not have done this, he is so noble,' yeah buddy, but you hoarded grain during a siege so I hope you have fun in the Dol Amroth prisons until after Morannon when we can be bothered to deal with you.
Turncoats? Hard to turn a coat without any of the correct information and each and every one of your sources rounded up before you can warn them.
Slimy advisors? Eaten for dinner, Denethor; sad but we planned for this, Mordor and certain death? Sure, not a part of the plan but our knights are renowned for their battle prowess, let's go and tear Sauron a new one.
Give me noble, coldly efficient, wildly territorial and very slightly feral Dol Amarothians. I beg you. Make their swan a symbol of their absolutely unhinged defense of their beautiful, elegant home.
(But like wild oceans and massive mountains? I have a whole post about how this also gives us insight into Imrahil and his kids, or like, my version of them. Water and stone, commanding oceans and navigating massive peaks. The children of Dol Amroth grow up walking uphill both ways, their knees are scarred and bloody from slipping down sharp mountain paths and they are honed to their lands.)
#imrahil#lothiriel headcannons#lothiriel#dol amroth#meta#I am very normal about Prince Imrahil the fair and his four wild children#i'm so committed to vicious clinical effective rulers#who are also good and fiercely loving and warm#but among their own#among the people they consider 'theirs'#(and of course eomer and eowyn are considered theirs#of *course* they are)#give me a family who contrasts Rohan and balances them#a clash of cultures where the clash is positive and open and still a bit unnerving#i have a fever dream memory of getting taken to a water-fowl enclosure at our local petting zoo#a gang of 20 third graders#it had just rained and we were slipping and sliding in the mud and two kids got bit by swans#I narrowly avoided a duck getting two of my fingers#there was a lot of crying that day

Npd culture is looking through the replies/reblogs of some of the asks here recently and seeing some horrendous ableism that cause you to have a crash. Obviously not mod's fault btw I'm not implying that I guess I'm just seeing more shitty people than usual? It makes me feel like non-pwnpd really shouldn't try to speak for pwnpd or judge/police their behaviors. Specifically I remember seeing people making fun of pwnpd saying we're just assholes or not allowing people to have boundaries. Like it's really not about that it's about how you say the thing. If you don't get what npd feels like, and obviously it's gonna be different in intensity for each person, then don't try to say shit or blame/accuse pwnpd. Why is npd always the villainized fucking disorder, as if I'm willingly trying to be insufferable or something. Pisses me off.
(Sorry for the full-on rant)

Today, on August 23th, Ukraine celebrates our National Flag Day :) To celebrate the occasion, let me share a few fun facts about our flag 🇺🇦:
The most common symbolic interpretation of the colors is that blue stands for the clear sky and golden-yellow stands for the fields of wheat. This symbolism is important for us as we are largely an agricultural society and have some of the most fertile soil on Earth, making us an important grain exporter since the times of ancient history. There also once was a religious interpretation of the colors, but it didn't stick.
However, the origin of the colors is much more trivial: they come from the heraldic coat of arms of Lviv city, which became the capital of Rus'/Kyivan Rus'/Ruthenia* after Kyiv fell to the Golden Horde (I am oversimplifying for the sake of brevity), thus dating this color combo back to at least 1256). The founder of Lviv, king Danylo of Galicia, is also known to be the first and only Ruthenian* king crowned by the Pope, which was the conventional claim to legitemacy back then. Somehow he managed to achieve that without converting to catolicism nor contributing to the crusades.
There is a neverending popular debate about the proper order of the colors in the flag: blue on top or yellow on top. One of the most popular arguments is the XX century pictures that showcase what seems like a 🇺🇦 flag with yellow on top; however, this misunderstanding largely comes frome the fact that the black-and-white cameras of that time made yellow colors appear darker than blue. Some people also argue that the flag should be flipped over because of feng shui.
During the soviet times, owning a 🇺🇦 flag was a criminal offence that could lead you to up to 2 years of prison time.
In the current russo-ukrainian war the 🇺🇦 remains a symbol of freedom and resistance to russian occupation. During the occupation of Kherson region, people would tie blue and yellow ribbons in public spaces to showcase that they do not yield to ru occupants. Although this act seems small in the grand scale of things, even such resistance was extremely dangerous if caught - owning any ukrainian symbols is a reason enough for russians to accuse you of being a spy and send you to torture basement. The start of the popular movement is attributed to Nisar Akhmad - a ukrainian activist of Afgani origin.
Even before the full-scale invasion, the flag was used as a symbol of resisting russian occupation - back in 2019 on the Constitution Day a 🇺🇦 flag was raised in the center of occupied Donetsk - an act that would, simply put, doom you with a death sentence in the russia-orchestrated terrorist quasi-respublics. The willingness of the people to risk their life for this act of resistance showcases how empty the russian propaganda about ''russian Donbas'' really is. Donetsk waits for ukrainian liberation to this day.
One of the most worldwide famous ukrainian pictures, Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks by Ilja Repin is full of ukrainian sybolism and "easter eggs"; including the ukrainian flag sneaked into the picture - you can see it in the top left quarter on one of the spears. This is historically accurate, as Zaporozhian Cossacks would often don the blue-and-yellow colors when going into battle. The picture itself is full of symbolism and political commentary, and, frankly said, deserves a full post of its own - but to put it short, Ilya Repin, who is often presented as a ''russian artist'' by russians, is actually a descendant of ukrainian cossacks, and has modeled all of the people on the picture on important Ukrainian political figers. And the picture itself was written in response to the Ems Decree - the law that banned ukrainian language from public use in the cultural sphere. If you haven't yet experienced the dramatic reading of the letter in question, narrated by one and only Peter Capaldi, please treat yourself and watch it today.
*Rus' (Русь) is the name of the medieval country in the Eastern Europe that was vaguely centered around the territory of modern Ukraine. If you are confused about the name and how is Rus' different from russia - this confusion is intentional. The chiefdom of muscowy, which was founded at least 400 years after the foundation of Kyivan Rus' and was the vassal of the Golden Horde for the most part, has appropriated the name (''Ρωσία'' is just a greek version of ''rus'') to falsify the inheritance of the high crown of Kyiv, which in actuality has gone to the western branch of the bloodline through Danylo of Galych to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (once again, oversimplifying very long and complex history for the sake of brevity). muscovies haven't been using the term ''russia'' to describe themselves before the 15th century, and all the earlier mentions of this term chronicled by foreign sources (e.g., the Byzantine empire) refer to the Kyivan Rus'.
#ukraine#ukrainian history#ukrainian culture#flags#ukrainian flag#the most important fun fact about ukrainian history is that there is a lot of misinformation mystification and pseudo-history. so ahem.#i tried hard to veryfy the sources but if I let something slip please let me know#укртумбочка#український тамблер

Collectively, the group can figure out most of Legato’s secrets but individually, they are stuck. Certain members have more pieces than others but not enough pieces to figure out the whole thing.
(I don’t blame them for not talking about Legato’s oddities because Legato has been pretty good at diverting attention and people are only now realizing the extent of it and they’re trying to be respectful to each other’s experience by not trampling on old wounds. Pressing someone for their adventure details also opens up the possibility of others asking about there’s and no one wants that.)
Now onto groups that if they talked could figure out some of Legato’s everything!:
Legend and Four: Legato’s from Downfall Timeline and is probably after Legend and either before Hyrule or after him. Four heard Legato make a mention to hostile River Zoe’s back in Legend’s Hyrule and this type of Zora is most common in Pre-Time-split and in the Downfall Timeline. Furthermore, the way Legato brought it up—offhandedly like it’s common knowledge/phrasing in his erameans that Zora being aggressive is normal to him thus eliminating Wind, Time, and Wild from being close to his era. Legend figured out that Legato already knew that he could turn into a pink rabbit beforehand so that implies either time travel shenanigans or stories of that being passed down into Legato’s era—thus Legato has to come after him at some point.
:3
#excellent deductions all around#i don't have much more to add#regarding his slip-ups‚ Legato has one thing going for him#he has picked up a bunch of habits and phrases from traveling over the years#(some he supresses more than others)#the amount of cultural diffusion within the Chain is remarkable#a certain character is going to experience the tragedy of being introduced to cheese only to realize that it doesn't exist in their era#starslog#lu doppelgänger au

Why do all the item pickups in BBKart end with "!!!"? it seems like such a weird way to end a string in a silly horror racer. Is it a reference to something?
yes. let me explain.
bloodborne ps4 as a game doesnt exist in a vaccum, it exists as a sequel to dark souls 1 and 2. it streamlined the souls experience and offered a lot of quality of life features, things that would feel too polished for a ps1 game.
because of this, i rolled back a lot of features in bloodborne psx to demons and dark souls quality to make it feel more rudimentary. there were big things like the key system (which rolled QoL back even earlier to actual ps1 / n64 games like tomb raider or OoT) but there were also small things that were implemented just to nail the 'old game' vibe like adding a weird number of exclamation points to a status effect announcement window:

bloodborne kart built on top of bbpsx's ui system to make both games feel unified in their look (and to make dev easier and faster by recycling work), so i re-used the status effect announcer to show the name of the power up the player just picked up
#lilith answers#so much of this is getting into the mindset of a ps1 developer#those old games were coded by people who mainly built productivity software or something else unrelated#so their games are competently made#but they dont really understand what makes a good video game codebase#cuz they were never immersed in game culture#they didnt know the universal language that games are expected to have#so weird stuff slips through like this#thats kind of a lost art nowadays#kind of a big reason why i find demakes so fascinating#its an opportunity to explore that
