WASR-10

The WASR-10 rifle is a semi-automatic version of the AK-47, a Soviet-made automatic weapon widely used in military combat. Automatic weapons fire all their bullets as long as you hold the trigger, so you can safely assume that you're going to fire a "burst." With semi-automatic weapons, you need to pull the trigger to fire a shot, and then pull it again to fire another. The bullets reload instantly without the need for tactile handling as long as there is ammunition available in the magazine.

The main standout difference between the two weapons is the "context" of the WASR-10

Because it is a military and automatic weapon, the AK-47 has never been accessible to civilians. Worldwide, legislation on automatic weapons for civilians is very complex. After the end of the Cold War, Romania (which was a country dominated by the USSR) found a way to open itself up to the capitalist foreign market with its weapons production, which was already massive during the Cold War period. This way was to take the stock of automatic weapons and transform them, so that they could be adapted to semi-automatic classification and be sold to the foreign market, especially the United States.

Now, by being transformed into a semi-automatic weapon, Romania has been able to sell many more weapons, since these weapons are now available for purchase by civilians. Which was the case with Patrick himself.

Technical differences beyond gun type

The AK-47, being a war weapon, has stronger reinforcements and finishes than the WASR-10, so the WASR-10 is a more compatible weapon for civilian demand.

The WASR-10's sight is less accurate than the AK-47's sight.

the end of the barrel, with or without compensator, can change between the two weapons, while one type may feature a beveled style, another may be straighter.

At first, it had some manufacturing disadvantages, but it evolved over time and with sales.

The WASR-10 is generally used for target practice, personal and home defense, AK-style shooting competitions, collection and recreation for gun enthusiasts. It is also often used when a mass shooting is desired

I'm moving backwards just for archiving's sake (but maybe planning on going only as far back as June), so here's what kept me caffeinated in August.

Starting the month, I was visiting my hometown to gather info on the project I'm doing for Simultan's exhibition, a short comic anthology about factories dealing with employees' work accidents in Cugir and Timișoara. Thanks to my family I had a full on tour of the Weapon Factory in Cugir (from the outside, of course) and was bombarded with stories and the factory's past.

While back at home, I finalised the end-of-Balamuc-residency zine, Make a Wish. Fifty eight pages of pure madness and documentary texts about the workshops, lectures and performances that happened during our (Gavril Pop and I) three months at Balamuc. The zine is in Romanian and English, and will be launched at this year's Sit+Read.

Took advantage of the editing spree caused by working on Make a Wish to also prepare the zine Meci (Melinda Ureczki-Lazar) and I made for print. Titled No words, No words, the zine is a dialogue between us that lasted for a year, in which we chose to only use drawing to communicate and develop a somewhat narrative work.

In between editing, I discovered the wonders of multiplying layers and had some fun colouring some of my contributions to our last open event from the Balamuc Residency, The Cadaver of Sefl-exploitation. Some of them are at the top of this long post, as headers

At some point in August, the printed version of the kid's book I have been working on since last October reached my home. Unde-i Păcală? (eng. Where's Păcală?) is a Romanian spin on Where's Wally?, the excruciatingly detailed British children's books. The book I illustrated, at the initiative and text of Diana Baltag, follows the folk tales of the Romanian prankster Păcală, challenging its readers to find said prankster. I tried to include as many details as possible in this 18-pager while also thinking how I want to approach kids. I thought of the book as something that doesn't take their intelligence and creativity for granted and that is a mirror of current times, in which they get to grow up with.

Made some more Transformers studies in the pink sketchbook. Getting them ready for an exhibition in Sibiu at Artă NonStop that will happen next month.

Lastly, I made some Zine Maker drawings that will be printed on ceramic pins at Gruni, for Sit+Read.

A little gun love today 🤗 because yesterday I bought my first AK-47 (cugir) & a .444 Marlin ❤️ First pic is my Ruger LC9, second (excuse my chubby face- it’s the ear muffs) is my pride & joy, my Rossi Circuit Judge, third is a S&W 38 special (that soon after this pic- was gifted to my mother in law), and last was on my 17th Birthday, wasn’t my gun, and lord help me, I don’t remember what it was- but I impressed the hell out of my boyfriend at the time 🤷🏻‍♀️
