Completed works I've read this week:

Oddity by @tsyvia48 Rated E - Actor C is contracted by (useless) Gabriel to guest curate an exhibition at the museum where A works. After getting off on the wrong foot, can they work together to pull off this show? This was in my WIP list and has now been completed *cries in a corner*

Garden of Delights series by @zehwulf Rated E – Rough Enough last week sent me on a little BDSM flavoured journey this week. This 10-part human AU series is *significantly* harder than Rough Enough, although A continues to have his soft Dom personality. I thoroughly enjoyed Crowley’s gender fluidity, as I identify as genderfluid myself. There are some very particular kinks in this series, and a SERIOUS CW for consensual non-consent (CNC) in multiple stories within this series. There is an underlying psychological growth within the series, though, which is interesting to unpick. Which, when I read this back, looks like me giving weird reasons for reading kinky smut. I give no excuses for reading kinky smut. I enjoy smut and certain types of kink. I also enjoy teasing out angst and psychological growth. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. But, erm, no chicken dinners in my smut, thanks. Not into that. But if you are, by all means…

A Tempting Night of Wine and Kisses by LemonTart Rated E – in-universe, but not canon-compliant, this is interestingly part 2 of a series, but the first kiss between A & C doesn’t happen until this second part – despite the first part also being very much E rated. This leads to this one-shot being much more tender and loving. Which was particularly soothing after 10 BDSM stories 😂 It was a bit like my own aftercare

love not given lightly by @hakunahistata Rated E – Hmmm, I’m starting to sense a pattern in last week’s reading…it all seems to be raaaather smutty. So apologies if that’s not your thing. *coughs* Anyway, blame Rough Enough, this is another Gentle/Soft Dom A fic. The story starts off with C snapping at A upon their very first meeting that he’s “fine”…coz, you know, that’s what all completely fine people say…

The Beginning of the End (Again) by @addledmongoose Rated M – A Post GO2 fic with a brilliant plot idea. I really enjoyed it AND it’s written in the first person (alternating) POV. I’ve never read a fic in this POV and I can genuinely say I enjoyed it and I congratulate the author on making it work so well. There is a lot of humour in this story as well, which I enjoyed and, hey, look, it's not a smutty-smut one. Although it’s definitely not innocent. I loved the character of Duke Asmodeus as well. Highly recommend.

There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out by @phoen1xr0se Rated M - A is a researcher (puffins!), C is a lighthouse keeper on the island where A has run away to to escape his problems and do his research. The author has recently spent a week studying puffins - which is the ultimate dedication, if you ask me. Ch 10/26 posted so far

Find The Light by @klikandtuna Rated E - Headmaster A and Rockstar C. The story teases out a fraught history between them whilst keeping a tension between them in the modern day. Ch 11/15 posted so far

Under The Summer Stars by @pannotbread Rated E - This wonderful fic has taught me more about physics than school ever did (mostly because I never did any physics, but...well). A & C have to share their time at an observatory because there is Only One Telescope. Not only will you learn about astrophysics, astrobiology, and astroecology, you'll also read some of the most poetically, beautifully written masturbation scenes I've ever seen. *ahem* Ch 8/13 posted so far

Poetry Carved In Flesh by @fellandcrow Rated E – Tattoo enthusiast A becomes a fan of tattooist C’s work, but doesn’t have any tattoos himself. C convinces him to get tattoos…but due to distance, A can’t get any work done by C. Until C comes to see him. This fic has GORGEOUS artwork, and speaks to my tattoo-obsessed soul. It’s an A-falls-first-C-falls-harder story, which is always fun. It also features ghostrat’s Nice and Accurate fandom. Ch 7/16 posted so far

Exodus_2 by @tismrot Rated E – Human AU set in a dystopian future. The summary says it best, really: Ezra studies programming at the University of ha-Gan. He’s as determined as he is damaged, as fastidious as he is precise, and likes to believe he'll stop at nothing to achieve his goals. His beliefs are challenged when a new student appears late to the first Ethics module lecture - and his life is changed forever. It's the future, it's dystopian, it's cyber and it's punk. It's political, grimy and slick with tears, lube and chemical snot. TW: Sex, drugs, trauma. Ch 30/35 posted so far

Free by well, me: imposterssyndrome Rated E - A & C meet (again?) in an acute mental health ward after both having had mental health crises. A runs a bookshop but is very much under his parents' control. C has been homeless since childhood and has struggled his entire life. They do not trust each other when they first meet, but feel strangely drawn to one another all the same. Where will this lead them? This is a passion piece for me. There is a lot of lived experience in it, and extensive research from both professionals and peers. It has been a real journey for me to write it, and as I'm coming closer to the end it's becoming very emotional for me. Ch 53/57 so far - on the home stretch now everyone!

in fanfic news, this week I raced through the ENTIRE Garden of Delights series like a madwoman, it's very kinky smut and absolutely porn-focused but has a romance plot underlying it all that will draw you in by the third fic, and as someone who does not usually go for human azcrow this interpretation of them as humans was SO delightful and had me shipping these characters so hard (afab nonbinary crowley who is a little shit and also a mess, and caretaking agender az!! delightful), it also probably unlocked a number of kinks in me and maybe u too (it's a lot of consensual non-con but so so well and carefully done)

My favourite short Good Omens fics of 2022

I love a good fic rec round-up post, and I've read quite a few excellent stories this year. So here are just some of my favourite Good Omens fics under 10k words that have been completed in 2022:

Bi M' Aingeal (Be My Angel) by IneffableToreshi T, 4905 words. Human AU. A very sweet meet-cute with folk musician Crowley and audience member Aziraphale, at which they bond over their shared knowledge of Scottish Gaelic.

Still, a great deal of light falls on everything by caricari M, 8660 words. Melancholic canon-compliant fic (I know!) set in 1970's New York. An angel and a demon meet, have a conversation full of longing and loss. Beautiful and sad.

Small Cock Appreciation Society by cheerios_and_wine E, 6471 words. Human AU. A very gentle character study masquerading as smut. Aziraphale's small equipment turns out to be just what Crowley is after. Both hot and tender.

Tidewrack by TawnyOwl95 E, 6706 words. Human AU. The hilarious, kinky adventures of Crowley the pirate and a freshly captured Aziraphale. Yes, it goes exactly how you expect... or does it? Hot, funny, and very clever.

Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by journeytogallifrey T, 7004 words. Human AU set in 1980's New York, the story of two people reconnecting in the same place, told in a series of beautiful vignettes. Melancholic with a happy ending.

Au hasard Aziraphale by GiggleSnortBangDead T, 6001 words. Fun Human AU in which Aziraphale gets kidnapped... but finds himself not unhappy with his new situation. Roadtrip fic with a bit of a difference.

Entre Nous by snae_b E, 4219 words. Human AU inspired by TV cooking competitions. Crowley and Aziraphale meet in front of the camera, but catch up in a whole different way after recording. Delicious in every sense of the word.

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Two on AO3- Doctor Who and Good Omens. But I've also written for Star Trek, Star Trek Voyager, The X-Files, and The Dresden Files (book series) in other places or never published them.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Soft to My Edges, Lockdown Voicemails, Mine, Rest Now, Collecting a Demon

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I do, though I confess sometimes it takes a little while! I want people to know I appreciate that extra effort they put in to let me know they enjoyed my stories. Honestly, seeing a comment makes my day. What is the fic you’ve written with the Angstiest ending? I don't do angsty endings. There might be tension in the middle of a story, but it is always resolved by the end. Joi is a certified fluff writer. Do you ever write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written? I have never published a crossover, but one fateful NaNoWriMo I did take my original characters and plop them on board the Enterprise with Star Trek TNG characters because I was frustrated with my story. And it helped! Troi helped me learn things about my antagonist. Of course, once I got to better understand his motivations, I stalled again because I didn't want to kill him. Oops.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? I have not, thankfully. And, as an ace writer, I know this can happen.

Do you write smut? If so what kind? I do. I write fluffy smut. Occasionally it strays into very light kinky-fluffy smut.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of... Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet, but I've have had an offer and considered it. My problem is I barely have the confidence to publish a story let alone share the writing experience with someone else.

What’s your all-time favourite ship? That's not really a fair question. It begs me to say whatever is my current fixation. But I have loved every one of my ships with my whole heart. Mulder/Scully brought me into fandom. Janeway/Chakotay made fandom into a home that I could decorate to suit my tastes. Dresden/Murphy taught me that I can write my own stories, even if the plot is wonky or non-existant. Kirk/Spock showed me how deeply I could burrow into a ship and how diverse/multi-generational fandom can be. Being a Doctor/Multi-shipper taught me things about myself and gained me friendships that I treasure. Aziraphale/Crowley is the queer gift that fuels me.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? I'm not sure if I ever wrote down any of my X-Files fic or if I just daydreamed a lot. I know I wrote for Star Trek Voyager and published a couple things. Yes, I still have printed versions of them in my possession. No, I will not share them. lol

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? I'm going to cheat a little and instead of picking an individual story I'll say: Too Many Beds Series Not only is it the longest thing I've published (collectively, just over 32k), but I was delighted to find that my readers enjoyed my original characters as much as I did. I don't think the sequel would've come about without that encouragement.

A hard-to-describe-how-really-good-it-actually-is fic, I would say)

But if I only stumbled onto this in July, maybe you haven’t seen it yet? It all starts with Crowley bringing a plant over to the shop. Then another. Crowley’s very sneaky, you see.

You, Soft and Only by thehoyden I have a lot of feelings about this one, because the way it starts out has you thinking, “oh, this will be a series of very covert, very sexy moments throughout the ages”, and then when it’s far too late, you realize that the writer has in fact structured the entire thing to produce a backstory that puts a completely different lens on Crowley and Aziraphale’s interactions in the show, and what the distance between them means, and it is still very sexy, but it is also filling you full of Feels You Did Not Ask For.

Peach by chamyl Established relationship. Aziraphale wants Crowley to Tempt him a little, and it’s much more effective than expected. Aziraphale displays some angelic strength. Extremely consensual.

Then during a hunt it almost goes sideways but didn’t because she uses her powers to save the Winchesters and kills the monster. /2/ Dean and Sam can’t believe it and Dean feels so betrayed he doesn’t talk to the reader on the way back to the bunker. When they get home Dean and the reader have a fight and he asks her if she ever used magic on him to make him fall in love with her, of course she never did but he doesn’t believe her and they break up and she moves out. Months go by, Sam keeps in touch with the reader but Dean doesn’t even want to talk about her (even though he misses her like crazy). /3/ Sorry if the end is rushed and not as detailed as the first part but I didn’t have an idea of how to end it, so feel free to write any ending you think fits better.
