The Mystical Significance of the Crow in Witchcraft and Magick
In the vast tapestry of symbols and beings that populate the world of witchcraft and magick, few hold as much intrigue and mystique as the crow. Revered by many cultures throughout history, the crow has come to symbolize wisdom, magic, and transformation in the realm of the occult. Let's explore the significance of this enigmatic bird and its role in witchcraft and magick.
1. **Messenger of the Otherworld:**
In various mythologies and belief systems, crows are often seen as messengers between the earthly realm and the realm of spirits. Their black plumage and keen intelligence evoke an air of mystery, making them natural conduits for communication with the unseen realms. In witchcraft and magick, practitioners may invoke the presence of crows to seek guidance, protection, or insight from the spirit world.
2. **Bearer of Wisdom:**
Crows are highly intelligent birds known for their problem-solving abilities and complex social behaviors. In many cultures, they are revered as symbols of wisdom and knowledge. In witchcraft, the crow is often associated with the archetype of the wise old crone, a figure steeped in ancient wisdom and magickal prowess. Through their association with crows, witches seek to tap into the deep well of knowledge that these birds are said to possess.
3. **Guardian of the Sacred:**
In some traditions, crows are believed to be guardians of sacred spaces and magickal practitioners. They are said to watch over witches and protect them from harm, serving as loyal allies and guides on their spiritual journey. In rituals and spells, practitioners may call upon the energy of the crow to provide a shield of protection or to keep unwanted influences at bay.
4. **Agent of Transformation:**
Crows are creatures of the liminal spaces – the thresholds between light and darkness, life and death, the mundane and the magickal. As scavengers, they feed on the remains of the old, transforming death into new life. In witchcraft, crows are often associated with the process of transformation and renewal. They remind practitioners that change is a natural and necessary part of life, and that through death and decay comes the opportunity for rebirth and growth.
5. **Symbol of Magickal Power:**
Throughout history, crows have been associated with magickal power and the ability to shape-shift or transform. In folklore and mythology, witches are often depicted as being able to take on the form of crows or to summon them to do their bidding. In modern witchcraft, crows are revered as symbols of personal empowerment and mastery over one's own destiny.
The crow holds a special place in the pantheon of symbols used in witchcraft and magick. As a messenger, guardian, and symbol of wisdom and transformation, it serves as a powerful ally for practitioners seeking to deepen their connection to the mysteries of the universe. Whether invoked in rituals, spells, or meditation, the crow embodies the essence of magickal power and spiritual insight, guiding witches on their path to enlightenment and empowerment.

Counting Crows
Tumblr media
As far as symbolism goes crows are a pretty mixed bag. To some they are the sacred messengers of spirits or deities and signs of good fortune, to others, they are an omen of bad luck, sorrow, and death. Witches have been divinating the crow's message, through various methods, for centuries and perhaps the most notable of these is the practice of counting crows. I find it so relatable when people say "oh, i dont understand signs!" but finally seeing signs is so comforting, alot of my signs come in the form of birds. I always tend to confide in apollo for my family struggles and he knows shopping is awkward for me so when im finally starting to come out of my shell (funny, this happened when i was leaving my car) a flock of crows flew over me. looking at the crows you can see there was a group closer and a group further away, like a little message of "it may be hard now, itll get easier with persistence" maybe it will lord apollo maybe so

A day with Lucifer, Astaroth, Hermes and Faviel
Lucifer was very motivational. Did prayers with Faviel and immediately got gifted a murder of crows and black birds!!! :)
If that’s not a sign idk what is. Tell me my spell is working without telling me lol. Faviel usually summons crows as The Father of Black Birds, but it’s usually only a few. I almost always hear crows cawing outside my window after praying to him (there were tons in the sky while I was doing my spell). But I’ve never received so many before! They were all so friendly! And three different species of black birds all in the same garden! (Black bird, crows and ravens) !!!!!! He’s never let me get this close before! Usually it’s a look but don’t touch situation. I’ve tried feeding them so many times but they always take off. But this time it worked!!! and I made a raven friend!!!
They appreciated my grubs and even gave me a feather in exchange! It was amazing! I was searching for cedar and pine for Hermes and took a path I don’t usually go down. Something just told me to go that way. One of the crows followed me all the way back to my street :) Oh gods I hope they remember me.
Funny how every day I dedicate to them is always amazing.

Crow Father
Pronouns: He/They
Domains: God of Death, Travel, Fatherhood, Masculine Energy, Wisdom, Respect, Familial Love, Looming Protection, Construction, Communication, Hospitality
Epithets: “Father of Blossoms” would be called that in relation to being the father of Syren (God of the Seasons) or in spring time. They would spend time together during the spring and you can hear their laughter in fields of flowers.
“Man of Men” + “Angel of Death” was called this when talking about him with his wife, Kristen. While Kristen is the afterlife, Crow will guild the souls or the living ones that are close to death. Believed to give them comfort or justice in their last moments.
“Whisper of Crows”, “One of Watcher” + “Soldier of Death” These names were associated with him when he was with Blade and how they would assist soldiers in battle. Either by watching over them while they are unguarded, guilding the souls from battle, helping them gather supplies or guilding civilians to safety.
“Kind feathered Traveller” Would help others find their way if asked for help. He would help make compasses, maps and provide protection for wanderers and refugees. It was also a title used when he was paired with Blade
“Everlasting Resourceful Builder” He helped teach others how to build houses and communities, helping stand tall and strong. Not stopping to help all around with building big shrines and other mythical sites in the mythology. Builders and carpenters often would ask for his blessings when making things.
"Looming Welcome" In many towns and homes, townsfolk would have bird statues or decor around their living areas to both invite travellers and Crowfather's protection in. Guarding against harmful entities and welcoming all that needed or wanted shelter. They believed that shooing away or being outwardly rude to wanderers, strangers or birds was seen as a quick way to get CF's wrath and loss of his divine protection; and depending on how far it went it could cause loss of protection to the whole town.
Symbols/Mobs: Crows, Parrots, bird skulls, black feathers, black vail/cloaks, Short haired and/or black cats
Rules/Guidelines:
Chosen family (ppl who you choose to have in ur life) are what's important
Formality isn't a big thing unless your asking a favour of him (also depends on how close u are as well, the more time you spend with him, the more he will see u as family/protected one)
Respect is given not forced. In all relationships, he will help pick out the ones that can and will be trust worthy but also teach you the signs of it and test your skills.
Myths/Stories: Crow Father was worshipped as an all ever looming protector, believed that all crows were connected to him. He could be summoned quickly, (+ more to add)
Colors: Crow Father would wear items/colors that would remind him of his loved ones and would have a ever changing colorful wardrobe. When he would visit different places/seasons, he would dress for the time there. So he likes any color but his favourite colors are Green (likes darker tones), White, Gold, Black, Pink (Blossom specifically)
Crystals: Obsidian, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Red jasper,
Incense: Lavender, Rose, Cederwood
Plants/Herbs: Alvo, Daisy, chrysanthemums
Offerings: Any shiny things, Black tea w/sugar, any herbal tea, tea cakes, sweets, arts and craft, crow themed things, items that remind of his loved ones, anything you have made, bones, travel guides,

Idk if this is weird enough for your quint thoughts but have you ever done one of the quints sitting across the room from someone while making them hot and bothered? Like maybe it's movie night and aeth is bored of the movie so he decides to make Swiss hard and Swiss has no clue what's happening? Or phantom/aeon is taking a water break during practice and oops, aurora is soaked and shaking?
Obviously that would be something that had to be agreed upon beforehand but I think that could be a neat power move
oh yes. i'm always a fan of the eye contact---looking at them from across the room, and the other ghoul has no idea why they just cant stop looking . . . and before they know it theyre falling asleep into their plate of food or gravitating toward the quint without realizing they even got up or hard and wet in their underwear simply sitting there. its quite similar to what ive written before where the ghoul has a 'trigger' nickname, that if the quint ghoul utters it, will 'activate' the quintessence that's attached to it and start to make them drop :3
aeon probably had a lot of accidents once he was first introduced to the sexy side of quintessence. his mind would wander and anyone in the vicinity would get gut-punched by it, double over with hot, sudden desire and aeon would have no idea bc he was off in his own little daydreaming world.

Pufferfish skeleton part 1
Last summer, I found a dead pufferfish on the New Jersey beach and brought it back to my car (wrapped in two ziploc bags). I'd been interested in vulture culture and bone collecting for a while, but this is the first animal whose skeleton I have hoped to preserve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was able to (imperfectly) determine that it was probably Chilomycterus Schoepfi, aka the striped burrfish. They usually live in reefs and seagrass fields in the Caribbean and Brazil, although they venture as far north as Canada.
Striped burrfish spawn in July in New Jersey, and because I found this on May 29th, I thought it was plausible that he was early to the party, but unfortunately died from natural causes. The body seemed completely unharmed after washing off the sand and examining the underside.
Decomposing:
I used the advice given in this post from @unofficialvulturecultureproblems on how to decompose small animals in pots, because I live in the city and I can't just leave a corpse out to the insects (although I have heard that is a better method in many ways). I also was not mentally strong enough to cut this poor guy open, he just looked too alive :(
I used those nets that onions are sold in to contain the body and so that the bones could be easily collected after decomposition. I buried him in a medium outdoor plant pot, watered him, and basically just left him for a year.
Cleaning:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just uncovered the bones and they are CLEAN. No flesh at all. I think they may have even been left in the soil too long because many bones are delicate and may have been broken down by soil microbes.
I spent ~3 hours cleaning the soil off these individual bones with a toothbrush, although you may be able to see that some soil has been absorbed into the cavities where the bone marrow may have been, making the areas darker.
I left them to soak in water to degrease, but nothing seems to have come out of them after over 24 hours. According to the advice of this post, the next step is to soak in hydrogen peroxide or expose to the sun to bleach.
Neat stuff:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check out the beak on this guy! Burrfish use their powerful jaws to crush and eat shelled invertebrates like crabs, clams, and mussels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some close ups on one of the many burr bones that make up the skeleton. They should fit together something like this (although this is a pufferfish, not burrfish skeleton):
Tumblr media
Future plans:
I hope to assemble this skeleton like the example above, although I'm not sure exactly how to go about this. I'm thinking glue at the moment, but I'm not confident I know how all these bones fit together (see the picture earlier of them all set out on a towel).
I would appreciate any ideas for what these bones are or for ideas on a plan of assembly. Also, if anyone has any tips on how to lighten and properly clean some of these bones I would love to hear it! I am excited to join this community!
