Crochet patterns are either like:
"Hey here are some really simple instructions with pictures for reference! I've also included links to how to do these stitches, what yarn I used and where I buy it, and how much I used! :)"
Or
"Hey here's ONLY the abbreviations for the stitches with no context, you'll have to know how to FIGHT GOD and have yarn made from the wool of ONLY FEMALE SHEEP FED ONLY GRASS AND LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD that costs 5000$ per skein. And no I won't tell you how much you'll need."

notes from the nnc s3e1 taping
so back in july hannah @bornforastorm and i went to the taping of the new night court season 3 premiere!!! to the best of my memory, here's what went down:
[spoilers below the cut]
pre show:
taping was on stage 10 of the warner bros lot
hannah and i got there early (as instructed) and were pretty much the only ones in attendance who had actually seen og night court (majority of ppl knew melissa rauch from big bang theory)
which is also wild to me by the way?? why would you go to a taping of a show you have never watched??
anyway
we chatted with a very nice belgian lady and a nice australian couple who had been traveling across the country for the last few months (they gave us mini kangaroo pins)
we were not allowed to have our phones on us (alas) or i would have taken a million pictures
new night court set looks a lot more grimy in person?? which i was surprised by because on tv the show looks so much cleaner than the original did. guess that's due to lighting and whatever goes down in postproduction
hannah and i were one of the first ones in line to go into the studio (we all but shoved our way to the front) and got to sit in the second row
they had a magician named mark sweet who warmed the crowd up with very delightful magic tricks (iirc he was also the opening act for tbbt tapings which is how he got this gig)
from where hannah and i were sitting we had a great view of the courtroom set. abby's chambers set and the cafeteria set and the hospital set were more difficult to see
they played a Here's What Happened So Far On Night Court recap for us to which hannah and i were like [ron swanson voice] we know more than you
when larroquette came out for the curtain call opening my vision whited out and i screamed like a maniac
larroquette was very tall and waved cutely and did a peace sign and applauded for melissa and no one else
hannah and i were more insane about that old man than anyone in the whole studio audience
abby's dream sequence scene + julianne's arrival scene:
abby's dream sequence was filmed a previous day; we watched that on tv (it already had the laugh track added)
on the first take of this scene when julianne showed up larroquette did a classic Dan Fielding Yelp and Jumped and hid behind flobert and it was magical to see
this would continue for the rest of the night but on every single take larroquette did something different and it was equally hilarious every time. that man knows how to read a crowd
they told us straight up not to applaud when wendie malick came in as not to distract the actors (or something?? can't remember the reason but i knew she was going to be there so i was not surprised)
gurgslivia canon confirmed (gurgs changed clothes in front of her)
flobert in a wig boston legal reference!!!
when talking about the new prosecutor larroquette did a take where he made an explicit reference to the OG night court pilot (alas i did not write down what it was)
larroquette had to bend down so the makeup people could touch his face up and spritz his hair
larroquette does this little shimmy every time before he gets into character as dan and it's great
great is not a strong enough word actually. seeing him transform into dan fielding before my very eyes was a spiritual experience. i heard colors and smelled sounds.
actors who flubbed the most lines: wendie malick
actors having the most fun with different line readings: larroquette and lacretta and also gary anthony williams
abby's chambers scene:
alternate dan lines: ‘Juicy little mouse’ ‘Juicy little spring lamb’
alternate dan lines: ‘crocheting a shank’ with hand gesture
fantastic line reading: ‘macrame net’
alternate dan lines: ‘chicken feet’ ‘cat brains’ ‘wrestling alligators’ (then that again but in a more southern accent so it was like 'wrasslin gators')
the cheeto bag julianne was holding exploded on the first take but larroquette went with it like a pro
larroquette did extremely hilarious line readings of That’s A Lie every single time
again wendie malick flubbed a lot of lines but she was a champ and got through it
melissa rauch had a lot of fun with the physical comedy in this scene
hospital scene:
julia duffy had soooo much fun slapping melissa rauch
hannah and i SCREAMED when julia duffy implied harry was the father (which i predicted IN MARCH AHAHAHA)
literally i was CLUTCHING hannah's hand. we were losing it
the nice australian couple behind us: .......glad you two are......having fun
melissa rauch once again had fun with the physical comedy
final courtroom scene:
took the longest to film
solid line reading of ‘a scarf with metaphorical strings attached’
some lines were not working during this scene so the writers rewrote them on the spot (and they did not notice my attempt to subliminally get them to hire me for the writers room)
lacretta and nyambi had so much fun during the julianne 'reveal'
when gary anthony williams was dumping the flobert pics out of the bag on one take they got stuck and wouldn't come out and his reaction was very funny
misc:
taping was about four hours long and we were given pizza around the midpoint
saw larroquette chatting with wendie during the breaks very cutely
larroquette swore ‘god damn it’ when he flubbed a line (very rare, he was the best of everyone)
larroquette didn't mix much with the cast other than wendie and melissa
larroquette has a book that he carries his scripts in and it looks leather bound and has a ribbon he uses to mark pages (possibly he has this for every script??)
when larroquette reads dan’s lines while he's rehearsing, he reads them with dan’s scrunched up facial expressions and does dan’s mannerisms (dannerisms??)
phill lewis (director of the ep) came up to the audience at one point and asked if there were any fans of suite life and did the ‘no running in my lobby!!!’ line in moseby’s voice and i shrieked about it
melissa rauch also came up to the audience and said hello and she was very charming
ren bell dialogue coach is hot as fuck
dan rubin was apparently there but we couldn’t see him
larroquette left immediately after curtain call (he does his job gets that paycheck and goes home god bless)
larroquette looked sooooo good in that suit
they filmed some scenes the day before our taping (dream sequence + cafeteria scene) and added a laugh track to them?? but then played them for us so our laughs would be dubbed over the laugh track?? no clue how that works
from what we saw the writers seem to be all relatively young, 20s and 30s (we gotta get more older writers in there for john’s sake)
the best non larroquette actors are easily lacretta and gary anthony williams (who is so funny and needs to be a series regular asap)
wendie malick flubbed a lot of her lines but she is apparently new to filming in front of an audience and she seemed very charming and funny; there were vips in the audience who were friends of hers and she came up and said hi to them
speaking of vips the perks they get include getting to keep their phones on them, being more likely to win prizes from the opening act magician (more on that below), and getting to hang with the actors after the show
melissa rauch impressed me, i think she is really settling into this role and i am excited to see what she does with abby this season
after they had to stop a take bc someone flubbed a line larroquette said something bitchy-funny (‘this is what happens when you-‘) but we couldn’t hear the rest of it
larroquette was doing all the physical comedy his 76 year old self was willing to do and he was amazing
overall seems to be a tight crew and cast god bless
in between takes mark sweet the magician would entertain us and also offered us the chance to win night court merch in exchange for us doing silly things. and at one point mark sweet was giving away signed copies of the script to anyone who had a special talent. so i came up and he had someone from the front row be my assistant. so i said to my assistant okay close your eyes. now reach your left hand out and grab the folder with the scripts out of mark sweet's hand.
i was shameless and got what i wanted :)
anyway overall incredible experience. i came out of there beaming like the joker and with enough energy to pick up a car and throw it five hundred yards. were it not for the laws of this land (aka me living in wisconsin) i would go to tapings every single week.
#night court#new night court#personal#beautiful mutuals#had so much fun that weekend!! got to see my dear friend hannah in person and also my beloved larroquette in action

You're hanging out at your friends place, a sleepover after not meeting for months. You're doing a little bit of everything, trying to fit in months worth of activities in one day.
You've played games, sung songs, painted a dozen frames, crocheted, cooked, ordered in, and even cut and dyed someone's hair.
You're down to one last activity before calling it a night.
You wanted to dress up and take some pictures together. You all brought your fanciest, sluttiest dresses and shoes just to hang around the house.
Yours was a backless black mid-calf satin dress with stripper heels that spent each day since it's purchase underneath your bed.
“I lovvvee your accessory!”, your friend who was getting dressed right next to you cooed at you.
You thought she was referring to your rings and thanked her. She hummed and went out of the room.
When you stepped out of the room, all eyes were on you. A lot of the friends wore cheeky smiles, a little too suspicious for your liking.
“I know I look different, but do you have to stare at me like that?”, you patted down your dress shyly.
“Hm, girl, we're just taking you in! Why don't you give us a twirl?”
You don't think much of it and do as asked. You're in a pretty dress, and you feel pretty, so why not?
You hear multiple heels clicking on the floor, running up behind you.
“Okay! Stand just like that!”, a friend of yours holds your shoulders and makes you face away from them.
“Is something wrong with the back?”
“Oh, no!” a chorus of various no's are heard all around. “It's just really pretty.”
“Do you wanna see? I'll take a nice picture.”
You agree and stand still. After a while, your friend shows you the picture. The thing you see makes you take a seat.
You don't say anything for a while as embarrassment makes your head spin. You're friends fill in the silence.
“Gotta say, this is a new way of breaking the news to your girlies. It's got his kiss on it and everything.”
“It's just a fan thing!”
“She did not do this on her own!”
“So, we're assuming she's dating him?”
“Better than assuming she'd use her expensive ass lipstick for this shit! I just know he's wearing it too. Bet he doesn't know how to take it off!”
“You guys planned it right?”
“Look at her face! She just found out!”
“Hey, don't be too mad at him. It's pretty. No scribbles or smudges. Perfect spelling.”
The only thing you say is, “help me take some more pictures so I can torture him a bit.”
-
Later, your boyfriend receives a picture of you in your backless dress with your back arched.
The cherry red writing on your body stands out on your skin as it reads, “Hawks' cumslut <3” signed with his kiss.
If it's any consolation, you also see various headlines and pictures of him wearing your lipstick. He really didn't know how tough it'd be to take off.

Amateur sewing - The Goddamn Pirate Poet Shirt
So. I made a thing.
A vaguely late-18th / early-19th century-style shirt. And I'm saying vaguely because, while this has about the right look, I took a few liberties in construction.
First of all: I wanted ruffles. None of the tutorials I used added ruffles because, frankly, that's a whole lot of hemming work for not that much length of fabric, but I wanted the frill. Behold. Also visible in this picture: The dropped shoulders, which are in fact according to the historical references.
The collar from its better side. The other side, I had to extend with a little placket as this shirt has two modes: slutty pirate (open cleavage) and 18th c decency (closed with a cravat), and for the latter option I wanted to be able to shut it with buttons. For which I apparently took the wrong measure from my neck. Problem-solving!
The front placket isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but the closed collar is meant to be covered by the cravat anyway. And check out my darling nacre buttons! I love them so much that I used two on every cuff despite that not being strictly necessary. Probably would have gotten away with one on each side. But. Look. Shiny.
Altogether, I think I used up, like, 70 meters of linen thread? Which is not super economical, but 1st, I backstitched really everything, except when I was felling over the (already backstitched) hems. 2nd, there were the underarm gussets, and wherever a reinforcement patch / strip could go on, I put one in, such as both sides of the collar, the slits to both leg sides, the shoulders and cuffs. And 3rd, there were my neat lil' additional bits such as the long, long ruffles, the tie I added into the cleavage, and the cravat.
I learned that linen thread is a bit tricky; it's very strong, but it's not super even, and it knots easily. It also cannot be used in a machine, but I did this entire thing by hand anyway, so that didn't bother me all that much. Not because I'm a stickler for historical practice, but because sewing machines are scary. I may have to tackle this fear for the sake of my fingertips.
I need to work on my estimation of seam allowance, because I had to clean up the edges on the inside of my shoulder/sleeve seam with twill tape, because I hadn't left enough seam allowance to hem over all that scrunchy, ruffly bit. Twill tape is probably not historical practice for such a shirt; I think this only became a thing after Spinning Jenny was invented, but it served me well. I also need to work on my sewing vocabulary, because I learned most of it online - and thus, English, confusing the hell out of my friend when I didn't understand my mother tongue's term for "seam allowance" because I had literally never heard it XD
Fun fact: I bought the linen for this literally years ago (a bed-set, because it's a lot of yardage for a relatively cheap price; I still have lots leftover). But only now did I sit down and make a shirt out of it, and I love it. The sleeves are so poofy! And all that seaming was worth it; the shirt already had a round in the washing machine, and it's perfectly intact. I think I did a good job!
The cravat is, aside from the twill tape inside and the buttons, the only thing that's not 100% linen, because my mom crocheted the lace trim for me from cotton yarn. My draft is not quite how a historical cravat from the 18th / 19th century turn would look, but I honestly don't care; the combination makes the shirt so goddamn fabulous! I love this; it was super worth the work. Time to get on a snazzy waistcoat to go with this <.<
#sewing#needlework#the goddamn pirate poet shirt#amateur making a piece of clothing#also behold probably the last pictures of my long hair before I get it chopped off XD

I finally finished Ace! Or her jacket, I should say. Or to be completely exact - the badges on the jacket. Or even more precise - I *decided* that it's finished because - despite my usual way of working on these dolls - I left out lots of details, because in this scale it was just impossible. Did you ever look at Ace's jacket and the badges closely? Do it, there are really LOTS of things. Though I admit that the most surprising for me was the socialistic star (on her left arm). Like - why the hell does Ace has this on her jacket?? I also left out her earring in the shape of Superman. Sorry, Ace. And I was using pictures from Remembrance of the Daleks as references for her outfit - believe it or not, her outfit changes - e.g. her T-shirt is different every time. Also badges kind of differs. And her tights. I was quite surprised to find out, until making the crochet doll, I've thought it’s just the same T-shirt plus the jacket and the only changes are dresses in Curse of the Fenric and the Ghostlight. But it's not. My apologizes. Yeah, I know the jacket most likely doesn't look the amount of time it took me to actually do it, but I think it's the best thing I could do in this scale and it looks kinda right. Especially when you narrow your eyes a bit...

a little more under the cut
i came out as trans when i was 10 (2008), stopped being shoved in the closet by family around 13 when I wound up in a psych ward (so they let me start socially transitioning), and i started physically transitioning with HRT when I was 15 in Sept/Oct 2014.
got my first gender affirming surgery Nov,8 2016, and have continued with a few more. currently working on getting my last scheduled for the upcoming year (2025).
Per my experience growing up trans in the 2000s/2010s, a lot of the discourse today is exponentially tiring, and I will always take more of a ‘leave everyone alone or get along’ and neutral stance. we have to actively listen to others experiences in order to get somewhere with conversations surrounding discourse, which is something most tend to forget. You won’t find me using terms like AFAB/AMAB/TME/TMA on this blog for that reason- they’re just further ways to categorize trans people by birth sex and not lived experience; nor will I be gatekeeping terms like transmisogyny and transandrophobia. I’d like to bring back the days where asking someone’s assigned sex could get you punched.
i’d love to engage with fellow genderfucked adults, in both sfw and nsft terms! consent and communication is key, I use RACK. I am T4T, dyke4dyke, and nb4nb.
I don’t have a dni because they are virtually unenforceable on tumblr, but I will liberally block folks I’m uncomfortable with and encourage you to block me if you’re uncomfortable with my interaction.

Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Mari.
As a person who loves crocheting, I've always been curious about and wanted to learn knitting. My grandma taught me some of the basics a few years ago. But my skills are far from presentable and I know hardly anything about it. For reference, here is a picture of some of my recent crochet-projects and then a demonstration of my current knitting skills.
On the left, you can see the patterns of two hair bands that I made a few weeks ago. And to show you that I can also do more three-dimensional things with wool and a crochet needle, a cat I started crocheting a while ago before running out of wool. (Don't mind the dust and scraps of yarn on it, it's been sitting in my drawer for a while.
This is a rectangle I knitted just a few minutes ago, only based on what I remember from when my grandma teached me a little bit of knitting. As you can see, it's not very pretty. The meshes looks irregular and wonky and the edges are anything but clean and look weird.
Unfortunately, this is as good as it will get.
My materials currently consist of a bunch of different knitting needles as well as tons of unused wool and yarn that I usually use to chrochet.
A picture of the different needles I own.
To organise my whole journey a bit better and to clearly set my goal, I made a list of what I want to learn:
Right and left stitches
Increasing and decreasing stitches
htd a proper mesh sample
Which materials to use
And then after learning the basics:
How to knit with multiple colors in one piece
How to knit three-dimensionally (idk the proper name)
htd different textures like this:
and others

Journeys in Amigurumi (Bingo Roll 1)
Spoiler: This was a challenge!
For my first roll of the bingo card, I got "make an amigurumi" - and as someone who is most comfortable with flat 2D projects with little sewing, I knew this one would really be taking me out of my comfort zone. I'm not happy when I have to sew, and I am incredibly not happy when I have to attempt embroidery.
I may not do a full blog post for each bingo roll, but as this is so completely new to me and a large part of this bingo is the journey, here we go!
For full disclosure, I've made ONE amigurumi project before this, and I haven't picked up the technique once since. So before we dive in - have a quick picture of where I started 12 years ago.
I had to dig some really old photo archives for this one.
This lil' guy was made to be a warbler for my fandom at the time. I am sure he was based off a pattern, but it's unlikely I'll be able to find it now. I also don't think I know where this lil birb is anymore; he's gotten lost in the shuffle of moving a few times since.
Step 1: Research
Research - Before even choosing a pattern to begin this challenge, I wanted to first understand more about amigurumi, so I took to Youtube, which is my usual place to learn all things.
For my intro to amigurumi, I started with a few channels:
LePetitSaint Crochet, especially this Amigurumi fundamentals playlist; olliehollycrochet, especially this beginner tutorial video; For inspiration, I've also found Skein Spider
There are quite a few amigurumi channels out there - these are just a few that I enjoyed across my youtube dashboard.
The next step of research was finding a pattern, and I feel as though this is the part of the rabbit hole I am going to ADORE continuing to explore.
Step 2: Practice
Before I started "the" project, I wanted to first get a sense of the tension and play around with a project. Just something small. In effort to avoid buying more materials, I took to stash busting some of my scrap cotton. For the test piece, I found the pattern Octobuddy by the blog, Sweet Softies.
As someone with already pretty tight tension, working with a smaller hook took some getting used to, but I liked the way this pattern was written - he's an adorable little Octopus, but it also helped me get used to the shaping and stuffing process. I used household cotton balls since poly-fil isn't the type of thing I just have on hand. I did end up buying some for the final project.
This was a good exercise for me, as I started to feel comfortable with the actual crochet and using a tighter gauge. As I was sewing the eyes, I ended up pulling the cotton up or not being able to push the needle through. He was a bit overstuffed, or maybe I tried to assemble out of order, or maybe it's just my lack of sewing experience striking again.
Beyond that, the hardest part was in fact the the embroidery of the eyes, and his are quite... something. I was not originally going for the wink, but as the two sides became less uniform, I decided to lean into it. They still turned out pretty shoddy, and I can NOT stand doing this. I told myself never again, but for another spoiler... I did it again.
My Octobuddy might still be a bit overstuffed, but he's super squishy and relaxing to squeeze, just like a stress ball, the perfect size for my palm. So he's been hanging with me at my work desk.
Step 3: Do the thing
I won't say I was ready for the next thing, per se, but I also wasn't getting anywhere just looking at the cool things that could be made with this technique. So why not jump right in?
For my actual pattern selection, I chose "Hubble" by Projectarian, available on ravelry. I love me an aquatic creature, and it called to me that not only was this pattern free, it also came with a beginner friendly pdf, quick reference, and an entire selection of written tips for the new-to-amigurumi crafter.
Squid time!
Again, I wanted to use up scraps, so my first challenge with this pattern was adjusting it for the yarn weight I had on hand to use. As a result, the eyes were made with a way too tight tension. The pattern called for some crochet for the sleeping pupil lines, but there was no way I was going to get my hook in there. For the second time, I took up a sewing needle and attempted embroidery. This time turned out a bit better than the Octopus. I adore how soft he looks with the brown cotton yarn I decided to use when I couldn't find black.
At some point in attaching the legs and tentacles, I did lose track of where I was - but that was on me since I got lazy with the stitch markers. It was so close to the end, I was able to wing it to decrease the final row and stitch up the center. Before then, I added a bit more poly-fil.
I chose not to add pom-poms at the end of the legs for the same reason as I didn't add tassels to the blanket I made. Being a mom of three dogs makes you super aware of the types of things the furbabies will get into. You should've seen their faces when I brought home the poly-fil.
But I'm ranting away and you haven't even seen him yet!!
Step 4: Finished Object!
Body: Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 - Rosewood, 3.5mm Eyes: Hobbii Rainbow Glitter Gold 8/4 - Natural White, Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 - Light Brown, 2.00mm Legs and Tentacles: Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 - Rosewood, 3.25mm Pattern: Hubble the Squid by Projectarian I call him Hubblet since I made him so small. Sleeeepy squid baby.

For my own reference here is the pattern for this rose which is prepped for the center of a granny square, US terminology. Based on about six different crochet roses which are all similar but not exactly like this one. The picture is done in kind of skinny worst weight cheap acrylic with an H hook, I crochet tightly.
Round 1: Magic circle, ch 1, 8hdc, sl st into first hdc (the top two loops, not the third loop), pull only until stitches form a circle, not fully tight
Round 2: From the sl st, (3 dc in next st, sl st in next st around), until back to the first sl st. You will have four 3dc clusters and four sl st. Sl into 1st sl st, pull MC thread tight.
Round 3: Flip your work to find the 3rd loop of the first hdc from the first round, flip it back so the right side is facing you again. Ch 1 and sl st into that 3rd loop, ch1, (2 sc in each 3rd loop of all eight hdc from round 1) around. Sl st into first sc of the round. You will have 16 sc.
Round 4: ch 1, (sc, ch 3, skip one sc) around. You will have eight sc and eight ch3 spaces around. Slip stitch into the first sc.
Round 5: ch 1, sc into first ch3 space. (7 dc into the next ch3 space, sc into the next ch3 space) around until you reach the first sc. you will have four 7 dc petals and four sc. sl st into the first sc.
Round 6: ch1, turn your work over and sc around the post of the *second* sc from round 4. This is the sc on the right side of your first petal from round 5 when the work faces up. Go in from the back through the first ch3 space, around the sc post, and into the next ch3 space to make your sc. (ch 4, sc around next sc from round 4) around, until you have eight ch4 spaces and eight sc. sl st into first sc.
Round 7: ch1, sc into first ch4 space. (8 dc in next ch4 space, sc in next ch4 space) around. You will have four 8dc petals and four sc. They should be staggered from the petals in round 5, if not something has gone awry in round 6. sl st into the first sc.
Round 8: repeat round 6, but sc around the sc posts of round 6, not round 4. You should have eight ch4 spaces and eight sc. sl st into first sc.
Round 9: ch1, (sc, 5 dc, sc) in each ch4 space around. Sl st into first sc. you will have eight smaller petals around.
Round 10: ch1, sc around the post of the first sc from round 8 (not the next one like you did with the previous similar rounds), (ch4, sc around the next sc post from round 8) around. You should have eight ch4 spaces and eight sc. sl st into first sc.
That’s it! To make this a granny square, get your yarn into the first ch4 space and do a [granny corner (3dc, ch2, 3dc), 3dc into next ch4 space], around until you have four corners and four 3dc clusters. Expand the granny as needed. To make it more floral, this first granny round can be in green to look like leaves, and subsequent rounds in a contrasting color. One idea is to do just the leaves in a contrasting color with the rose and granny ground in the same color, would look elegant in ivory.

🏹🛖Ultimate Decades Challenge🏰👑
Continuation of 1304...
In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of their baby girl, Elizabeth, Hugh and Bridget's world was enveloped in a thick blanket of sorrow. The pain seemed insurmountable, casting a shadow over their lives. However, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged with the arrival of their precious son, Elias. His birth brought a renewed sense of purpose and joy.
Elias, with his innocent smile and tender presence, became a beacon of light for the family. While they knew that Elias could never replace Elizabeth, his arrival breathed life back into their home.
And as Edith grew older, the bond between her and older sister, Eleanor, became an unbreakable thread that wove through their lives; being that the girls were only a mere year and a half apart in age, they had each other to play, snuggle, explore, and find trouble with.
Hugh holds Edith a little tighter after the loss of her twin sister; their first true loss as a family.
"Through the eyes of a child, you will see the world as it should be."
The bitter cold winter left the crops scarce and foraging took longer than normal. The children continued growing strong and healthy, and they watched Edith pass through her infancy and into her toddler years.
I am the Queen of doing too much. I think this picture is an example of how I can never do anything "minimally". My writing, stories, posts, photo edits, explanations..... I am always doing too much.
Going backwards in time, before Edith was a toddler and Elias was born...
"I don't care about your excuses, peasant. As I recall, you have an imbecile in charge here. Pathetic excuse for a lad, eh?"
Not long before Elias was born, the tax collector made his rounds yet again. Hugh had recently started his job as an Artisan's Assistant and their money was dwindling more than ever while the very pregnant Bridget was unable to collect much honey in the dead of winter, nor was she able to stand for long periods of time crafting candles.
Bridget didn't get nearly as upset about a man of his status degrading her, but hearing him speak ill of Hugh made her blood boil internally. She would fight until the end of it all for her family. She could say or do nothing except try to blink the tears away that threatened to overflow down to her cheeks before returning back into the warmth of her home.
"He would be like that even if we weren't peasants, love." Bernedicta rocked quietly, moving her needle and thread with ease. It wasn't just a hobby; it was her way of helping with those taxes. She sold her work straight out of the home to anybody who made the trip to the farm. Though it wasn't anything close to enough to provide for the family, anything helped. "We will be fine. It is going to work out, as it always does. Don't listen to the fool. Sit down and have a rest. I will watch Edith; here, here," she waved her hand for Bridget to lay the infant down in the bassinet next to her.
"I know you love to watch me crochet more than those silly stitches, eh?" Bernedicta grinned as Edith babbled away and watched Benedicta's hands moving back and forth.
Back to present day...
"I think that will do it for now..." Hugh said with a smile. Though winter hadn't brought much honey, they had a few jars they had not sold to the towns folk and used those to make honey mead. It sold at a much higher price and turns out, commoners up to lords and ladies even enjoyed it. The murmurs around the peasant village were that the kingdom was buzzing with whispers of a peasant family with the best mead in all the lands. "I cannot wait to see the look on his face next time...," Hugh referred to the tax collector, whom loved to be a thorn in the side of the peasant village, particularly his family.
With time, Hugh and Bridget found the perfect recipe for honey mead. Once they sold a few, townsfolk were returning for more or referring other people in the kingdom to the Stonewall peasant farm. Even through the harsh winter, with the honey they had saved for themselves during the past seasons, they managed to get enough sold that they could work on building a second level to their home. Though it would merely be a small enough space for a bed, it would give their children a bit more space as they grew bigger.
The celebrated with their own barrel of mead, savoring the fruits of their labor. Bridget and Hugh could hardly wait to see the tax collector show up next time, which was quite an uncommon emotion to have towards the fool.

The Star Beast
Am I excited for the 60th? Eh... I'm just glad to have Doctor Who to watch after a year of nothing.
Why in the world were my Disney+ subtitles set to Chinese?
Donna my girl. You are the only reason for me to be excited. This whole post has a lot of salt throughout.
Also, I don't know how I feel about the exposition to the camera thing. Twelve did it better. Interesting opening sequence. And I think I have said I like the retro logo. Ok Rachel Talalay directed. That's promising. Those robots in the background felt cyberman-esque. Ughhhhh I have so many thoughts about the choice to have Donna name her daughter Rose. Ugh. I like that the running gag of Donna not seeing the chaos for random mundane reasons continues. Glad she's still roasting him. Ok if this is supposed to be a NEW Doctor, I don't like him saying Allons-y. Please. New catchphrase. The same face doesn't have to mean the same personality. Plus I don't know French but isn't saying "Let's - Allons-y!" redundant? Ok shoutout to Nerys that's fun. Shaun's a good man. I'm very glad we get to see more of him now since he was a bit of a non-character in End of Time. OH GOOD UNIT IS REALLY BACK PROPERLY. Wait do I remember seeing pictures of Kate in promos... I was about to ask why the ship was right side up if it crashed. Ok. It landed. God I've forgotten Donna's mom's name but I'm really glad to see she listened to the Doctor and shows Donna appreciation now. I was just about to ask how long it'd been. Because End of Time aired in 2009/10 but the whole timeline of the RTD era was messed up. So does that mean that Journey's End was technically 2008? God let me not try to make sense of this right now. God I hate this Meep thing with a passion. I hate its eyes. So much. Ah. Nightmare fuel. I don't like the sonic reverting back to be so similar to Nine/Ten's either. It would have been funner if he was using Thirteen's. Plus he should have been in Thirteen's outfit but I've already complained about that for a year. Cowards. "Off you pop" I wonder if that's a reference to Clara in the 50th. What is that the Time Vortex or something? Does Rose crochet these toys? Love that. (For the record I got nothing against Rose at all I'm just mad she was named Rose for pure fan pandering purposes.) Ok now I see why it was hiding in toys in the promo. Sylvia you are totally right to be angry at the Doctor this time around. "Oh wow he's so cute" no, it's nightmare fuel. GOOD JOB SYLVIA. He deserves that slap. Oh poor Shaun. He's such a good man though. Sees the chaos, sees a literal monster, and decides to compliment his mother-in-law's cooking. Good job. "I loved that man." Aw. Me too. "He's not dead." "You idiot." Love it. Kate came in to help take care of Wilf? Oh. Ohhh. My heart. "You've got two hearts? So do I." "You've got what." Oh Donna. Hmm so the hypnotized soldiers are not on the same side as the Wrath... I don't know how I feel about this sonic force field thing but ok. Resonating concrete. I'll accept that reference because it's about Nine. "Or we've got things very, very wrong." Yep I agree that Meep is probably evil and as nightmarish as the Meep looks. A living sun. I'll accept that reference because it's about Martha. Please RTD, reference something OTHER than your era though for this 60th anniversary of the whole show. SEE I TOLD YOU IT WAS A NIGHTMARE CREATURE. "With your weird child." Ah so Beep the Meep is a transphobe too. SEE. SEEEEEE. I WAS RIGHT TO HATE THIS THING. "I'm just passing by" Ok I always liked that line. God I hate this thing. SHE SAID THE DOCTOR. Ok these random Winter Soldier trigger words would have meant more had they actually be put into the show at some point prior to this. Because I have absolutely no memory of any of this besides the repeated "binary binary binary." Donna Noble is descending. Fixing up all the burning caverns like that is nonsense. OK ROSE. OK.
Ok no wait now I'm mad again. At first when the show was in promotions the assumption was that Donna named Rose subconsciously. Because we weren't sure if Yasmin was playing a trans character or not. Then when this episode started I was like "Ok so Rose picked the name Rose by random when she transitioned and it's a coincidence. Fine I'll accept that." but didn't actually put it in the post. And now NO. SHE HAS SOME OF THE METACRISIS IN HER. SO SHE NAMED HERSELF AFTER ROSE. I'm mad all over again. Just let it go RTD2!
Ok the Keep Out on the shed might be a reference to Twelve's sign on his Tardis. Fine. Fine. I'll take that. Glad they didn't zoom in on the Adipose before that. that would have been too obvious. Because the toy is just straight up an Adipose. Also happy 10th birthday to Owen the Adipose plushie I crocheted around this same time. "We're binary." "She's not." "Because the Doctor's male" "And female" "And neither. And more." Ok ok confirmation of the Doctor being non-binary ok. This has been a rollercoaster of me being angry and me being happy. "My father would be impressed, I have no higher compliment" That is VERY true there is not a higher compliment than that. Oh is the episode going to be dedicated to Bernard... Oh and we're getting that Toymaker dude later right? And Rose makes toys. Ok I see why this random Old Who villain is relevant to this story. "Shame you're not a woman anymore, cause she would have understood." True. So they can just... let the time lord energy go... sure I guess? OK THE SIGN BY THE ROBOT THINGS SAYS CYBERDOG. I DIDN'T SEE THAT BEFORE. THEY WERE MEANT TO LOOK LIKE CYBERMEN. I do like Ten being insulted by Shaun saying "But not him." since I do somewhat headcanon Ten as being a bit in love with Donna.
Ok at this point I realized that Tumblr had stopped autosaving this draft around when we saw the Adipose. So let's see if I can even post this last half.
I don't mind this Tardis design. Kind of like One's mixed with Eleven's. Ok the set itself is actually impressive. I like it. Oh Donna. Ew I do not like the breathy Doctor Who theme nope.
No dedication to Bernard at the end. Did we already get something dedicated to him? Or maybe they'll just dedicate the episode he's actually in.
As an episode, it was cute and fun. I think RTD2 needs to take some of his own advice and let it go, specifically the Rose thing.
As a 60th anniversary special... Ok I was glad this episode wasn't just purely RTD era callbacks every other moment. But still, it's an anniversary special. Give me more about all 60 years. Or at least the very least more about the Moffat and Chibnall eras. I guess we'll have to see since all 3 episodes are supposed to be anniversary specials. But for the episode airing closest to the anniversary, I'm disappointed that it didn't feel like an anniversary episode.
Edit: I went to check the cast and at the time it had a 9.2 on IMDB and was above Blink as highest rated episode. It's now down to 8.2 which is more reasonable. But god I'm annoyed at the way some fans have just eaten up all this pandering.

Can you please give us some HCs about Evelyn :) Like her quirks, likes, dislikes, hobbies, habits, facts about her, etc.
General Evelyn Headcanons
(A/N: I have been waiting waiting for this request! I realize I haven't given much detail on Evelyn but I did that because it's her story yes but because Levi is the way he is he's taken it over. So I'll also categorize each of these so I can do each one on the list! (I don't have a faceclaim to put with this for Evelyn tho bc I'm not an artist so sorry about that. Unless someone wants to slide in the inbox for a more detailed description 0_0 jk jk)
WARNINGS: None, she is literally perfection and doesn't deserve Levi's ass but I love causing her trauma
===========================================
Likes ->
It's been lowkey mentioned before but Evelyn is a big reader, Hange introduced her to it and now they give each other book recs.(Hange always insists on recommending smut to piss off Levi)
Girlie is an autumn enthusiast, even though Levi thinks of her as his spring (yes it's a Fruits Basket reference don't @ me) Pumpkins, cozy blankets, leaf crunching, the whole nine yards. She would be that friend if camera's were more available to use bedsheets and take pictures as ghosts
Avid music and dancing fan, obviously the only music they have is classical and Levi taught her how to dance which is what they used to do until the wedding
More often than not she'll grab the paper from Levi in the morning and look at local death cases and try and figure out who did it before reading the full story, although she's stopped since Levi deemed it "unladylike"
The staff that do talk to her recently started teaching her to bake, although unfortunately Levi was the recipient of some failed attempts.
In the winters she occupies her time crocheting, she can only make blankets, scarves and mittens but hey, Levi now has an endless supply
Hange used to be (and still kinda is) her best friend, I didn't show it much because the series is supposed to be about her and Levi not her and Hange but they were besties for a long time
She hates to admit it but baths with Levi is actually very relaxing, he's warm and it's nice to be up against his chest like that
Dislikes ->
Levi lmao (obvious answer)
She's honestly and truly afraid of the dark, she's younger than Levi but not that much younger and she's still afraid of the dark. Shadows coming in the night scare her so in those moments she (unwillingly) clings to him. Although part of her wonders if he drapes clothes and things a certain way to look like shapes
She hates hot weather, she's not in love with the whole sundress without panties summer vibe, too hot and sticky
Cooking is her worst enemy, baking is fun enough but cooking will be the death of her
Erwin (again obviously)
The Survey Corps uniforms, who the hell designed the white pants in mind come on
Hobbies ->
As mentioned so I'll just go over quick, reading, baking, crocheting :)
Habits & Quirks ->
She's a habitual sleep without panties and just a shirt person, everything else is too warm and annoying, tibbies free to the wind
While cooking is the bane of her existence, she is a firm believer of fuck around and find out there, making amalgamations of food when she cooked for herself
Designated mom friend, she makes herself (before with Levi but now herself) the one who makes sure the underage Scouts don't get ahold of booze and make a fool out of everyone
She'll keep you in check but if you do get in a bind she'll walk you home and hold your hair back to puke
She enjoys having her hair played with so she'll sit for hours and let whoever wants to braid her hair or do funky styles, she just likes the physical touch of it
No matter what she does she's cold as hell, Levi keeps the home scorching hot so she's comfortable, he'd rather go around shirtless than have her freeze
Fun Facts ->
For fun she let Hange use bleach on her hair and now she highlights it when she can, Levi still lets her since he's learned how to do it and it makes her hair interesting
Levi cuts her hair, he already does his own so he's learned how to cut her curly hair
She keeps her hair in pin curls, which isn't usually the style for the officer's wives since they're usually older
Levi used to bring her flowers randomly to woo her but she's just come to like getting them
One time she wore one of Levi's shirts to bake as an act of revenge if it got stained but when he got home and saw her the idea of her wearing his clothes was so hot he encourages her to wear them all the time

Did someone say pattern?
This is an easy-to-intermediate pattern. If you are a beginner, you will encounter many unfamiliar techniques (such as color changes, connecting two pieces together, and working in the back loops). But I only ask you to do these techniques once or twice, and the snail is small enough to work up quickly. This pattern is to make eSCARgo, but it is also the base for the other snails (not only because he's my favorite but also because he was the least complex, lol), so you can refer to this pattern if you make to make the other guys.
Anyways, enjoy!
MATERIALS:
I used a size G6 (4mm) crochet hook and medium (weight 4) yarn. This pattern is worked in rounds, so I recommend using stitch markers. You will also need stuffing, a yarn needle, and scissors. Alternatively, you can use hot glue to attach the pieces.
For snails with hair or clothing, I made them out of felt and hot-glued them on. eSCARgo doesn't have any, but once I make the other snails, I'll update y'all on them.
ABBREVIATIONS:
This pattern is in US terms (sorry UK bros)
st - stitch sc - single crochet sc3tog - single crochet 3 together blo - back loops only inc - increase stitch dec - decrease stitch slst - slip stitch (modified for surface stitching; will elaborate in shell pattern) [] - work instructions in the brackets as many times as instructed () - the total stitch count at the end of each round
PATTERN:
BODY:
Starting with the eyes R1: in green, magic ring 3sc (3) R2: 3[inc] (6) R3: 6sc (6)
Change yarn color to body color - tan
(hopefully the pictures help; imma lefty, so sorry if it's confusing T.T)
R4-R6: 6sc (6) bind off
Repeat R1-R6 for the second eye. DO NOT BIND OFF
R7: sc3, chain 2, now insert your hook into the first stitch of eye1 sc around, into front loop of each chain 1sc, into eye2 sc3
R8: sc3, into back loop of each chain 1sc, 11sc (16)
Tuck the loose ends of the yarn tails into the eye stalks to stuff them, cut off excess
R9-R14: 16sc (16)
Pause here to stitch eSCARgo's smirk
Before we start the next round, make 1sc so that the back and the front are even. Your new round starts here.
R15: 2[2 sc, inc], 3sc, dec, 2sc, dec, 1sc (16) R16: 2sc, inc, 4sc, inc, 3sc, 2[dec], 1sc (16) R17: 3sc, inc, 4sc, inc, 3sc, 2[dec] (16)
Pause here to stuff the head
R18-R28: 16sc (16) R29: 4[2sc, dec] (12) R30: 4[1sc, dec] (8)
Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff the foot. Sew the end of the snail's foot close.
SHELL:
R1: in brown, 4sc in magic ring (4) R2: 3sc in every stitch (12) R3: 1sc, 3[3sc in the next stitch, 2sc], 3sc in the next stitch, 1sc (20) R4: 2sc, 3[3sc in the next stitch, 4sc], 3sc in the next stitch, 2 sc (28) R5: 3sc, 3[3sc in the next stitch, 6sc], 3sc in the next stitch, 3sc (36) R6: 4sc, 3[3sc in the next stitch, 8sc], 3 sc in the next stitch, 4sc (44) R7: work in the blo, sc around (44)
Pause here to slst the snail's spiral in dark brown. Pull the yarn for the slsts from the top of the piece instead of through. The reasoning is that we need to make the same spiral pattern on the other side, but once stuffed and closed, we cannot pull the yarn through the piece. We will do the alternative stitching for this side to ensure both match.
R8-R13: sc around (44)
Before we start the decreases, we have to line up the corners. Make 2sc so that you begin the next round in the center.
R14: work in the blo, 4sc, 3[sc3tog, 8sc], sc3tog, 4sc (36) R15: 3sc, 3[sc3tog, 6sc], sc3tog, 3sc (28)
Pause here to stuff the shell. To prevent your hook from catching and pulling up the stuffing, cut a small piece of felt or scrap fabric to cover the stuffing. You can leave this inside. This will also help you later when stitching the spiral.
R16: 2sc, 3[sc3tog, 4sc] sc3tog, 2sc (20) R17: 1sc, 3[sc3tog, 2sc] sc3tog, 1sc (12) R18: 4[sc3tog] (4)
Bind off, and leave a long tail to sew the hole close. Make sl sts on top to create the spiral pattern. Make sure to reflect it to mirror the spiral on the other side.
Thread a long piece of tan yarn and sew the shell and body together.
I present to you eSCARgo!
#crochet pattern#wild life smp#goodtimeswithscar#this took me so long lmao#probably bc i was also experimenting with the other snail designs at the same time
