I'm going to send a message to...2! Campaign Three Edition
On this, the eve of the Apogee Solstice and the 8 year anniversary, I am here to share a few stats projects I've been working on over the course of the campaign! This is the first of them, but I shall be sharing a few more over the course of the day, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!
In this post, we're going to be looking at everyone's favourite spell, Sending. Who casts it more, who has been the recipient most frequently, what's the most times it's been cast in one episode? All of these and more will be answered under the cut.
But first, a quick note before we begin, all data shown here has been collected by myself, all tables made by myself, so there is plenty of room for human error. If you notice a mistake, feel free to reach out and tell me, or just ignore it because this is all just for fun!
In the first 50 episodes of Campaign Three, Sending has been cast 71 times, to 26 different targets! As Bells Hells have two casters capable of casting the spell, let's start by looking at them individually.
Ladies first!
Imogen has cast Sending 49 times over 18 episodes, to 17 different people.
Tumblr media
As shown here, she has cast the most messages to the Voice of the Tempest herself, Keyleth of the Air Ashari. I also think it's worth noting that 2 of the 4 messages she Sent to Eshteross were sadly after his demise, so he did not receive them.
Tumblr media
Here we can see that Imogen cast the spell once in 6 episodes, twice in 6 episodes, thrice in 2 episodes, four times in 1 episode, six times in 2 episodes, with a record of 7 times in one episode.
That record was set in episode 35: A Pyrrhic Return, where she sent one message to Delilah Briarwood, one to Ashton Greymoore, one to Ariks Eshteross, and a whopping 4 to Keyleth. Yes, that is half of all her total messages to Keyleth. And all to try and arrange transportation.
Moving on to Fresh Cut Grass!
FCG has cast Sending 22 times over 9 episodes, to 15 different people.
Tumblr media
A comparatively much more even spread from FCG, with a lot of people only hearing from him once. It's worth noting here that a large part of the reason they've cast Sending so much less than Imogen is that, as a cleric, he has to prepare the spell each time he wants to cast it, and Imogen always has it available, meaning they will often choose not to prepare it. Additionally, as a sorcerer, Imogen can recover spell slots much faster than FCG, allowing her to cast it more times per long rest than him.
Tumblr media
Remember what I said about an even spread? Yeah, not so much the case here. Almost half of all of FCG's Sending castings were in episode 49: The Aurora Grows. The reasons for this are many: They really needed to communicate with a lot of people, they had several days of time to do it, and they didn't really need the spell slots for anything else because they were on an airship. In fact, we'll come back to episode 49 in a bit and have a closer look at it.
But before we do that, let's pull up some comparisons!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few interesting things to note here:
Imogen has Sent a message to FCG twice, whereas FCG has only Sent to her once.
Only 6 people have received a message from both of them. One of those is Ryn, which was the one time they attempted to Send two messages simultaneously. Sadly, Ryn was petrified, so we have no conclusive data on what that experience is like, or who would receive the reply.
There has never been an episode where FCG Sent a message and Imogen did not.
And of course, the most notable statistic here, 15 Sendings cast in one episode, episode 49: The Aurora Grows. Let's have a closer look at that, shall we?
In The Aurora Grows, they Sent 15 messages to 11 different people. This doesn't even account for all of their communications in tat episode, as they also received a message from Keyleth through Orym's Message Bloom, and Orym and Dorian communicated through his Sending Stone twice. But let's look at the 15 castings by Imogen and FCG.
Tumblr media
Episode 49 marked the first time D, Pike, Milo, Joe, Ebelond Kai and Ira were contacted by Bells Hells, as well as the first time Birdie was contacted by FCG specifically.
That is almost all I have for you on this topic today, and I thank you all for reading this far. I hope you'll keep an eye out for my other projects which will go up later this evening, where I'll be looking at group stealth checks across all three campaigns.
I end this post by sharing with you a record. Imogen Sending four messages to Keyleth in one episode might be astounding, but it doesn't beat our previous record. No, the title of most Sendings to one person in one episode is still held by Jester Lavorre, Sending FIVE messages to Essek in ONE DAY in episode 2x77. This poor man.

I have to say when it comes for episode 107 I'm on the camp of this feeling wrong. Like, two gods' plan is to just let Ludinus just have his way? And just assume that the vessel won't get them? The Wildmother showed Orym the time Predathos came to town, it took out two of them in a blink and the Titans did the heavy lifting, it chased them from Tengar to Exandria without concept of navigation so it's foolish to think they won't do the same this time around. Running forever isn't a life even the infinite should be pursuing. Corellon is cheeky and flirty but it's a mask for being deflective and honestly a little cowardly. What you're asking and trying to persuade with gifts requires the Hells to entertain sacrificing one of their own, which they shouldn't (and I'm hopeful they won't, because that'd be to me at least be a character betrayal since they have always prioritized each other over the gods) consider doing even for any kind of promise, and treating it like it's a necessity, as if leaving like you've decided you want to do now is your 'sacrifice'? Even if being a vessel and still being of sound mind was a viable option with proof that it can work that way, there are too many unknown factors that it seems not even the gods have answers for, so it should all trail back to the fact that this is STILL not a risk worth taking and Ludinus should not be having his way.
I guess part of this feeling comes down to the fact that this was not what I was hoping to get out of the episode; I'm always open to being surprised (because I often am) but it has to be in a good way, this was not a good way. But we'll have to see where it goes, this is a proposal of two gods against a majority yet to say their piece and could still be heard out, I still trust Matt's vision and Abu DM's like smooth butter, but the god debate admittedly continues to wear on me - we were already in a state where we were open to talk but now they're conspiring against one another too? Can we not just focus on Plan A: Unite to Stop Ludinus from releasing Predathos? Evoroa literally said Ludinus' plan is to divide why are we sowing more division? Couldn't just kill Zathuda and take his dragon for Fearne...this should've been Bell's Hells' big win to make up for Otohan but now for me at least it feels a little sour.

I do think it’s funny that shortly after all of the Hells were finally convinced that Imogen and Laudna weren’t officially together was when they kissed
I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about how Chet or Ashton(?!?) would be confused about that being a meaningful change in their relationship
But that ignores the fact that Chet is insightful as fuck when he wants to be. He’s seen the pining. He’s seen the confusion and angst. He’s got the most experience with the widest range of relationships of the group. He fuckin knows.
Orym knows gay angst and repressed feelings and tagged imogen and their lack of a romantic relationship since she shouted in his head back at the Taste of Tal’dorei.
FCG and Fearne especially have been pushing together their faces like barbie dolls and shouting “Now kiss!” since something like ep18.
And Ashton. Ashton’s the only one that’s really seen Laudna’s side of this. They’ve been the one that has seen her angst. Her confusion. Her self loathing and her not thinking she was good enough for Imogen in the long term. They told her to take what she wanted on the way to the store in the sandstorm. They were the voice of support and reason and hope the entire time the teams were split. They told her specifically to spend time with Imogen bc they knew she needed it.
Ashton might toss out something glib like “it’s not a big deal when wives kiss you two” but under their breath it’s gonna be something like “fuckin finally”

Don't be suspicious: Group Stealth Checks in Critical Role - Vox Machina edition!
Hello and welcome to the first of a four part series looking at group stealth checks in all three campaigns of Critical Role! This first post is looking at Vox Machina, the second will be the Mighty Nein, the third Bells Hells and the fourth will be a comparison between the three. I've split it in this fashion for easier consumption because there's a LOT of data here. All of them will be tagged under both #cr-stats and #don't-be-suspicious for your perusal.
Disclaimers first!
Most of the data on this post was compiled by @critrolestats, who I'm eternally grateful for, but some of it was done by myself, and all charts and graphs were made by myself. As such, everything is subject to human error.
Now, what is a group stealth check, and why am I looking at them specifically?
A group stealth check, for sake of this project, is any time 4 or more members of an adventuring party roll a stealth check at the same time. I chose 4 as the start point fairly arbitrarily, mainly to limit my data set. As for why I'm looking at it, I just think it'd be fun to see which party is statistically the sneakiest.
Let's begin under the cut!
Vox Machina made 88 group stealth checks over the main campaign and all of their specials. Their overall average is 24.48014
But before we get deeper into the nitty gritty, I first must acknowledge a certain spell that wildly skews averages. Pass Without Trace is a wonderful spell that adds a +10 to everyone's rolls, and so because it is so powerful, I'd charted every time the used it, and take it into consideration in each table.
So, first of all, let's look at each individual member of Vox Machina's averages.
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, Vax is head and shoulders above everyone else, and Pike is dead last. A quick reminder that this is not their total for all stealth checks ever, but for every time they participated in a group stealth check.
As I mentioned Pass Without Trace, let's look at it specifically.
Tumblr media
So, as we can see here, Vox Machina cast Pass Without Trace for well over half of their group stealth checks. About 64.77% in fact. In which case, why don't we compare how well they do with the spell up versus without.
Tumblr media
Almost exactly 10 points better, nice!
Now, I mentioned that these checks start at 4 participants and go up, but how many people exactly are in these checks? How often is it just four people? I'm so glad you asked, have another chart!
Tumblr media
Interestingly, despite being a group of 7, the highest frequency is groups of 6! This could be due to a combination of Vax scouting ahead instead of participating, and Pike's frequent absences.
If you're looking at this and wondering "how the fuck did they have 9 participants in some of these checks?" then this is the part where I inform you that they had guests partake in these checks!
Vox Machina had a total of 23 group stealth checks performed with at least one guest present, and 12 with 2 guests at once. Which guests? Let's see!
Tumblr media
15 separate guests! Yes, we are including Scanlan 2 as a guest and not lumping him under Scanlan, simply for weird technical reasons. I am not going to do that math, but if you want to you can take Scanlan's average from above, and Scanlan 2's average from below and work it out from there.
Speaking of guest's averages!
Tumblr media
Our sneakiest guest is Kerrek, with 26.5, and our least sneaky is Lyra with 11. But wait, this doesn't factor in Pass Without Trace! Lyra didn't have Pass Without Trace for her single check, and Kerrek did for both! Hell, Tova had it for both of hers, which means her ACTUAL average is 5. That'd be due to the disadvantage caused by her armour. As you can see, there are a lot of contributing factors here that I can't possibly account for, so this is what we've got.
One quick note to end on is that most of these numbers are rounded to two decimal places, simply because the full numbers looked really messy.
These stats are pretty interesting, but they don't really say a lot on their own, there's no point of comparison here for the other groups! Well, in that case please stay tuned for the next three posts in the series, where I'll be looking at everyone else. Once again, you can check those posts out under the #don't-be-suspicious tag on my blog.

For anyone who's curious, here's the probability of outcomes on Daggerheart's duality dice! Remember that half of all rolls (except critical successes) are with Hope, and half are with Fear.
On a d20 there is a 5% chance of rolling a nat 20, while Duality Dice have an 8.3% chance of a critical success. However, half of all failures are with Fear, making extra-bad outcomes more common than a nat 1. (Also, unlike nat 1s in D&D, rolls with fear always have mechanical consequences, and will likely have narrative consequences too, depending on the GM and the moment.)
Excluding crits, duality dice have a range from 3 to 23. The ends of that range are less likely than the middle since more than one die is rolled, with the exception of critical successes, which are as likely as a 13, the most likely outcome. (Note that it's impossible to roll a normal 2 or 24, as both can only be achieved with doubles and as such are always crits).
