Happy first birthday to my mighty nein atla au!! i know this date offhand for no particular secret reason :))
Water, Air, Earth, Fire, Sword, and Star!
Newly defected from the side of Firelord Ikithon, firebender Caleb Widogast has a long way to go if he's to truly join up with Team Avatar. He hears a lot of stories in the first few weeks that really let him put everything together - how the Avatar, Fjord, got stuck in an iceberg, for instance. In return he tells them a few stories of his own (and helps Jester break into a high security Fire Nation prison).
I love this fic so much and it took me five months to write. I haven't stopped thinking about it since :))

I wish more people would write modern/college/flowershop etc. WITH magic au fics. They tend to be so difficult to find, but are my absolute favorite.
I mean, dragon age... You'd have everything cool about modern settings, but also the extra complicated social issues with magic and different races and the conflict between the Qun and Tevinter but in a more complicated modern political contexts.
Or ATLA, take the korra vibes a step further. Maybe there's new bending techniques, how is bending used in modern society. Is it working with technology, do benders see technology as a threat to their place in society, are there instagram posts about who can do the prettiest bending? Think the comics but again, taken a step further!
ANY dnd live play would be so good as well! How would the type of magic dnd has impact modern society? Would the study of certain magic become much more controlled, kind of like gun control? How does that work with sorcerers. What would the social implications of using a charm spell be? I have so many questions that need answers!
Anyhow, if anyone has any recommendations, plz send them to me, i need moreeee

Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 Azutara AU. Katara is June, Chloe is Azula. Jet is James, obviously. Robin is Ty Lee. Zuko is Eli. That is all

Okay y’all… I was very critical of eps 3 & 4 (especially 4) of NAtLA. Then all of a sudden eps 5 & 6 kinda slapped me in the face with how much better the show suddenly got.
Spoiler-free thoughts first:
Zuko, Iroh, and Aang have cemented themselves as the best parts about this adaptation - which is really funny considering I’m currently writing a longfic AU where Zuko and Iroh discover Aang in the iceberg right after Zuko is banished at age 13 and end up becoming the first members of the Gaang (albeit reluctantly at first lol). Episode 6: “Masks” (the Blue Spirit adaptation) was so good, I’d venture to say that it actually improved and fleshed out some things from the original series.
Episode 5: “Spirited Away”, while not as good as E6, was not as bad as I heard people say it was going to be. I think that the changes they did make didn’t bother me nearly as much as the changes they made in the last episode, and it was actually entertaining.
There were several scenes that made me cry in both of these episodes (moreso in episode 6, which I’ll get into further down in the spoiler section). These are the scenes that I feel like really tapped into the heart of the original show rather than feeling like a soulless remake.
Now for my in-depth thoughts (INCLUDES SPOILERS):
EP 5: “Spirited Away”
- Staring out, I was bummed because I had just rewatched the first two eps of the original animated series lol.
- It was an interesting choice to have all three members of the Gaang get stuck in the Spirit World, but I think it worked.
- Wan Shi Tong just showing up randomly was a bit unnecessary, but I suppose it will be kinda interesting to see him again in S2 since he’s already met the Gaang
- Hei Bai plays a much smaller role in these eps, but I strangely didn’t mind that either?
- Seeing Katara’s last memory with her mom was devastating, especially the fact that she had to witness her death and hide in the igloo with Kya’s charred body :(( she definitely has severe PTSD.
- Even Sokka’s memory made me tear up a bit
- Koh being the villain and a soul-eater or whatever was a bit of an odd choice, but I guess I can see why they did it. I do prefer him just being an asshole who steals ppl’s faces lol
- Appreciated the Fog of Lost Souls reference from the LoK lore
- Aang reuniting with Gyatso made me cry. I know some people didn’t like him being in the Spirit World, but I really liked it. Also, the fact that Gyatso was the first person to tell Aang that it wasn’t his fault the Air Nomads died, and that if he had been there he would have died too? THANK YOU! My poor boy has been berated enough for “abandoning” the world.
- We got some interesting lore about the afterlife for humans from Gyatso and Aang’s convo, which we’ve never gotten in AtLA media before. Idk if it’s just for Air Nomads, but Aang mentions that Gyatso stayed behind instead of “seeking enlightenment”. I know that the end goal in Buddhism is to reincarnate until you eventually achieve nirvana, so I wonder if that’s what they were alluding to (I’m not an expert on religions so pls correct me if I’m wrong)
- Oh yeah, I forgot June is here lmao. As a queer person I loved her (bc beautiful goth woman) but I didn’t like the weird choice to make her hit on Iroh - I guess to contrast the Iroh being creepy towards her thing in the OG series. I wish they would have just had them interact normally tbh, no weird “flirting”
EP 6: “Masks”
- Here we go y’all. The best episode in the show so far and probably the best the show is gonna get this season. I’m still pretty shocked at how good this one was.
- I think the decision to include flashbacks to Zuko’s Agni Kai was a good decision here. It felt like an appropriate episode for them and the flashbacks were very well done.
- In general, Dallas is doing a phenomenal job at portraying a Zuko who is angry and aggressive, yes, but also so very sweet and compassionate at his core. I love when little inklings of his true self shine through.
- Roku was… not what I expected. He was very much more of a lighthearted and jokey person… I didn’t hate it, it was just unexpected lol. I wonder if they did that to contrast him with Kyoshi. Which, speaking of, I’m glad Roku clarified that Aang doesn’t just need to be a merciless warrior (and that he didn’t berate Aang for “abandoning” the world like she did). But I still am annoyed about the mischaracterization of Kyoshi in general.
- RIP Shyu :/
- Thought it was kind of strange how June captures Aang at Roku’s temple lol. Like how did she get on and off the island??
- Zhao continues to feel like a completely different character to me lmao. I think this version is pretty funny, but it’s so weird to see Zhao being portrayed as so goofy and incompetent when he was such an intimidating force and the main villain of Book 1 in the OG series. Just a weird direction they went with his character.
- The Yuyan archers look cool as fuck. 10/10 no notes
- Still not sure how I feel about Azula already being this insecure and jealous of Zuko. I think it makes her feel a bit more realistically like a child, but the whole point of Azula’s character is that she is really good at maintaining this cool and calm persona on the surface, which she uses to scare and manipulate people. I can see her maybe getting to a point later on to where she hardens herself into that though. We’ll see.
- Baby Zuko asking Iroh how he looks and his little smile 😭😭😭😭 I had a physical “aww” reaction to that. THAT’S MY SON (me and Iroh shouting in unison)
- War Room scene was handled very well. No complaints. I like how Ozai tried to test Zuko with battle strategies.
- Blue Spirit break out scene was extremely close to the original, and it was really good. They adapted it almost shot for shot with all the important parts.
- Here’s probably my favorite part of the episode: Zuko and Aang’s talk inside the abandoned house after they escape from Pohuai!!!!!! Gahhhh I could gush about this scene all day. I love how they expanded it to be an actual friendly conversation between Aang and Zuko. Like we get to see Zuko’s true self coming through - the sweet, kind boy we know he is. Zuko and Aang just have such great chemistry as well, wayyy more than Aang has with either Sokka or Katara. Like I adored them bonding over painting and caligraphy!!! I think this is the best acting we’ve seen from Gordon so far, and Dallas did a phenomenal job switching back to that hurt, angry version of himself (of course a trauma response). And the fact that Aang said “sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you” when he blocked Zuko’s firebending attack??? My sweet boy 😭
- The final flashback to the Agni Kai was really well done too. I’d already heard Zuko fights back, which I wasn’t sure I’d like, but I actually didn’t mind it. I really liked that they showed Zuko’s hesitation whenever he did actually have an opening, and that was what angered Ozai the most - Zuko showing compassion, “weakness”. Daniel Dae Kim is of course doing a phenomenal job (no surprises there), and I really liked that Iroh actually attempted to stop Ozai at one point. It also looked like young Azula had tears in her eyes, which I again actually liked because it humanizes her.
- I loved that Aang was still there when Zuko woke up on the boat 😭 he wanted to make sure he was okay!! I full on started crying when we got the “do you think we could have been friends too?” lines from him. Again, Gordon killed it. I love how you can tell that Aang knows Zuko has been hurt and that’s why he acts the way he does. He doesn’t blame him for any of it. 10/10
- the last flashback to Zuko in his bed recovering from the burn… god the tears just kept flowing. I really liked the choice to have Ozai almost give Zuko a chance to like… idk understand why he did what he did, and how compassion is “weak”?? And then Zuko’s response to give people a chance 😭😭😭 as if I couldn’t love him any more!!! And then of course Ozai gets pissed. But seeing baby Zuko just cry in his bed UGH I’m dehydrated at this point
- Of course I can’t finish this review without mentioning the 41st division. What an incredible way to expand upon the source material by making them Zuko’s crew!!! It shows just how much Zuko truly cares about others and it moved me so much (once again to tears).
I don’t have high hopes for the last two episodes, but honestly, if this is what the live action can be, it gives me a bit of hope (at least for future seasons). I really think that Dallas, Gordon, Paul, and Daniel were the stars of this ep and are a big part of what made it so good.

“The Search” Rewrites, Book 4: Air, Leaks, and A Call for Help from the Fandom
I’ve talked a little about the Book 4: Air restoration project @book4air. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out! Three full episodes are already out and episode 4 is going to cover Zuko’s early days right after his banishment, exploring his relationship with Iroh and the world as Zuko understands it as a lost boy rapidly coming into manhood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait until you hear the VA’s performance with music and everything! It’ll break your heart.
But I want to talk a little bit about what comes after these next few episodes: our adaptation of “The Search”.
If you’ve seen our adaptation of “The Promise”, you’ll know it was quite faithful. This won’t be the case for “The Search”. For the purposes of the overarching story we are telling, this story is getting overhauled. (Please still support the original release if you’d like to see the canon version).
The biggest change that’s been announced is the addition of Toph. The team felt that a story about family, identity, and faces could benefit from including Toph’s perspective as she comes from a unique but toxic family situation, has a strong conflict between the performance expected of her versus who she really is, and is completely blind and so faces don’t even register for her.
Here is the sample scene we released:
youtube
But I want to talk a little bit about what we are changing about Zuko and Azula’s roles in the story. While the set up is virtually unchanged, there is one small alteration that makes a big difference.
Tumblr media
(Sorry for the poor quality, this is technically unreleased content and I’m being kinda risky leaking it.)
Ursa’s letters are now a diary. This means that rather than get random flashbacks, the narrative framing now becomes Zuko and Azula reading these entries together. As a result, they get to discuss their discoveries about their family, and even share each other’s perspectives.
What that means is that when things like Zuko dangling Azula over the cliff happen, now we actually are forced to address it. The characters have to talk about how they treat each other and the reasons why. They have to confront the toxic family dynamic they’ve been forced and groomed into since childhood. Zuko has to realize his mentally ill little sister isn’t the monster here and in fact he’s the one with all the power now, and Azula has to realize that Zuko can be trusted if she can let go of her fear long enough to talk to him about her vulnerabilities.
We also address issues like this:
Tumblr media
Many people criticize this for being OOC, but I think there’s a way this could easily not be. Sokka has been known to be juvenile and reactionary as a first response, the difference is that he always eventually apologizes and learns from his mistakes. Without even needing to be asked.
Threatening a mentally ill person who has just been removed from an asylum—even as a joke—is not okay. It would be questionable even if they’d been friends before this, but considering their prior relationship it really does seem like an boneheaded lack of awareness or compassion for how triggering this could be.
So rather than remove this interaction, we addressed it. And I am really taking a risk posting this here, but here is a brand new script page:
Tumblr media
Sokka isn’t just comic relief. Sokka is smart, Sokka is compassionate, Sokka is brave, and Sokka knows when it’s time to apologize and reach out versus when it’s time to fight.
Safe to say, there are several things that stay the same and we tried to keep faithful to the spirit of the story, but there’s a lot we wanted to do for the Gaang and for the Fire Sibs, and I hope you’ll join us on this adventure, whether you’re a diehard fan of the comics and just looking for a fun AU, or you hate the comics and would like a rewrite, or even if you’ve never read them and would just love to return to the world of ATLA.
The only trouble is, we can’t do it alone. The project is very expensive and time consuming to produce. Our team pays for everything out of pocket and some of us don’t even have reliable housing, so it’s been a hard time.
If you can help in any way, even only by spreading the word so YouTube will stop burying us in the algorithm, that would be huge!
If you can afford to help, we have a Patreon where you can get all sorts of early goodies.
Reblogs and comments greatly appreciated! As the head writer and voice of Azula, this project is very near and dear to me. Avatar was my first pro-writing gig when I was just a homeless 19 year old, and it’s here for me again as I struggle to rebuild my life and health that COVID destroyed.
I love this series and the community that has helped me through the hardest times in my life. I can’t wait to make something beautiful with you all!

A, E, L, S and U for the fandom asks!
A - Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s)
Ingvar/Lydia. It's been that way for like a decade (it's been a decade 😭) and it's not changing any time soon
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what
I mean, half the stuff that I make at the point is crack or ridiculous aus, but the two most iconic (in my mind) are of course the tax evasion marriage series and Karina Haltsex. Blonde Lydia was also cursed but really funny
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)
Stefan is pretty hilarious and as I get older, I appreciate his and Jesper's "hater" vibes more. Should get more page time to flesh him out.
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Edvin was sort of a miracle baby born to older parents and lived in a multi-generational home for most of his life, helping take care of his grandparents and learning from them. So he's a lot more comfortable with adults and seniors than most of his peers. Edvin's grandmother teaches him a little bit about medicinal herbs but dies before she can impart most of her wisdom. RIP
U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms
1. Aqualad (Young Justice)
2. Mathias (Six of Crows)
3. Fjord or Keyleth (Critical Role)
4. Abigail Pent (The Locked Tomb)
5. Uncle Iroh (ATLA)

I don’t watch Critical Role so every time someone posts fanart of Beau on my dash I think it’s some cool stylized painting of Sokka, but this New Beautiful Sokka is often doing/saying something I don’t understand, and I almost always end up mildly confused and wondering “What new ATLA AU is this?” before I realize

WIP Game
No one tagged me, I tagged myself in because I want to and you can't stop me =P And I'm tagging everyone who sees this that writes! Do it! Dooo iiit!
Rules: In a new post, list the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it. And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I don't actually have a WIP folder, I have WIP folders, plural. So, I'm adding a rule that I can't have posted any of the fic online anywhere for it to qualify, and I also have to have worked on it some time in the last... four years?

I have fics I haven't actually touched in 6+ years that are still marinating in my brain, waiting for the pieces to fall into place) If you've trawled through all of those to get here, you've got more stamina than I do!
Please ask about anything that piques your interest! I'd love to talk about some of these, see if it gets the creative juices flowing. (Also feel free to ask about any of the WIPs I have posted on here or Ao3!)

I was bored so I said if I got 5 likes or more I'd compose a detailed post of both of my OC D&D parties and I got 7 soooo...
SOME CONTEXT: Both of these parties are original characters created BY ME for purely creative/de-stressing purposes. They both exist in Exandria of the Critical Role universe, specifically on the continent of Wildemount. For the lore nerds, the Shieldmaidens are active between 828 and 838 PD (Post Divergence), while the Headstrongs are active between 848 and 850 Post Divergence.
Obviously this is an amorphous AU canon where the events of Campaign 3 get resolved nice and neat, maybe the whole "moon's haunted" subplot isn't prevalent, idk. I came up with these characters before C3 started on that tangent, so just keep that in mind!
Headstrongs:
Vindithas "Vin" Morcoast (He/Him, Mixed Heritage (Elf/Orc), 11th level Gloomstalker ranger)
Another strong silent type. Kind of gives off "Cassian Andor meets Aragorn" vibes. Noble, loyal, but introverted most of the time.
Natural leader but actively avoids leadership decisions and roles, but believes in leading by example.
Has definitely killed in cold blood but isn't want to do it without good reason anymore.
Will use his rugged good looks to get better prices on supplies, but isn't proud that he does it.
Overabundance of natural talent means everything is kind of easy for him, so he does this thing where he'll either offer to help someone well past the point that they need it, or he'll just fix the problem and walk away.
Doesn't lecture people when they disappoint him, but somehow they know he's disappointed, and that makes it worse.
Never knew his father (an orc), and his mom (an elf from Bysaes Tyl in the northern Dwendalian Empire) committed ritual suicide when he was younger. His maternal aunts - all elven supremacists - consider him a stain on their family's honor and their sister's legacy, and have vowed to track him down and kill him.
He lost his left leg from just below the knee down in a trap when he was younger, and has a magical prosthetic made of some wooden and metal parts.
For obvious reasons he's a sad drunk.
Clainthryth "Clara" Lelista (She/Her, Human, 5th level Arcane Trickster rogue/6th level Order of Scribes wizard)
Think Jenna Coleman with some Eartha Kitt-levels of delightfully chaotic attitude mixed in.
Wisecracking personality, curious, quick-thinking, cultured but doesn't flaunt it.
She's a landscape painter by trade and profession, and her magic is all paint or art-themed. A sketched hand for Mage Hand, watercolor clouds for Disguise Self, making blades out of ink (a homebrew cantrip).
She's also a member of a clandestine organization that's trained in espionage to prevent conflict between different guilds on the Menagerie Coast, protect patents, recover stolen art, etc.
She got into sketching pinups and raunchy stuff as a side hustle when she was younger and her parents, who were also both artists and Renaissance af, were both like "Oh cool! She's so talented and progressive! Keep sketching nudes, darling!"
Flirts for sport.
She has an ear for voices and can copy people's voices with varying degrees of accuracy. She mostly just does it to make fun of people.
She might have a crush on Vin but like I said she flirts for sport so there's no way we'll ever know for certain...
Hala "Paisley" Andradari (He/Him, Hobgoblin, 7th level Battlemaster fighter/4th level Inquisitive rogue)
He's Sokka from ATLA, but a hobgoblin. Very similar personalities and foils, but with the benefit of experience that comes from being in his mid-20s. He's still sometimes an idiot though.
His nickname comes from a paisley-patterned sash he wears constantly (I wanna say it was the first big thing he acquired through trading as a sailor, so it has sentimental value to him?)
He's from Tussoa and his dad was a ranger serving the city, who was a close friend of Tussoa's Marquis (he was one of her most prominent supporters before she was elected to her position).
His mom was killed by pirates with the Revelry (big pirate brotherhood on the Menagerie Coast)
He wanted to become a ranger like his dad but can't cast spells for crap, so after going on a soul-searching journey where he served as a privateer on a ship and fought pirates, he came back and joined the Zhelezo (equivalent to the town watch on the Menagerie Coast. Every city has 'em).
Percy de Rolo is one of his idols and inspirations. Not the whole "he invented guns" thing, but just his mechanical inclinations and tinkerings and stuff.
His big gimmick is very RDJ Iron Man-coded: He goes up against an enemy, gets the shit kicked out of him, does some sulking and self-reflection, and comes back with a weapon or invention that can counter exactly the shit-kicking move that hung him out to dry the first time.
Tovae Seastone (She/Her, Quarter-elf, 10th level College of Swords bard)
Wiccan Folk Punk Swordswoman.
She's snarky, she's chaotic, she's dry-humored, she's anti-authority and pro-creativity and thrift...She's the closest to a Talesin Jaffe character this party has.
Believes in leaving "moral echoes" and that small positive choices can incite real change across multiple lives.
Is a bad influence. If someone has an idea that involves breaking the law, she is 200% down to clown.
Before joining the party she worked as a trick swordswoman for a traveling performers' troupe, which is how she met Tali and eventually Zaya. She mostly just did tricks with swords but also fought in underground matches for money, and did some Robin Hood shenanigans to help people.
She also knew Clara before the party formed as well - they met and worked together a few times to steal back some art from a wizard who was easily offended.
Spends any fun money she gets on hats and portable musical instruments (she likes finger cymbals and kalimbas).
Ferociously haggles for everything and is the party's face during any shopping escapades.
Shiloh Neilsson (He/Him/They, Stout halfling, 10th level College of the Road bard)
Halfling grifter with some dwarven heritage, a transatlantic fashion sense, and a surprisingly good right hook.
Hyperactive, impish, extroverted, and ludicrously optimistic.
Most of his schemes revolve around making money and impressing girls, in that order.
He essentially talked his way into an apprenticeship with Clara's guild and has been raising hell ever since. She thinks it's funny as hell.
Definitely hiding his big sad feelings with humor. Who or what hurt you, my guy? <3
He's an aspiring Triple Treat but his acting's a little stunted.
Big thing is graffiti art - Where Clara's art-themed spells are precise, elegant, and deadly, Shiloh's are VERY untrained and look straight-up like doofy street art.
He's related by blood to a Dwarven player character from CR but I won't say who.
He owes some very unpleasant people more money than he'd care to admit.
Zolzaya Moss (She/Her, Goliath (with mixed heritage), 11th level Way of Four Elements remastered monk)
Eight ounces of Lesbian dumbass.
Seems kinda fidgety and ADHD-coded (well, she IS) but is actually weirdly insightful and usually knows a LOT more than she lets on.
Except with girls. She can't flirt for crap and is completely oblivious to flirting directed at her.
Eats like Luffy from One Piece.
Fights like Aang from ATLA but angrier. A neat trick she does is to use the water and air pockets in a target's body to magnify blows and amplify internal damage in a really nasty negative feedback loop.
Sleeps better in a tree than in a bed (its because she oversleeps in a bed and falls out of trees to wake up)
Agroforestry is her special interest.
She smells like rain.
She is tangentially connected to the Shieldmaidens adventuring party (They adopted and basically raised her)
Tali Rootcaller (She/Her, Half-Elf, 10th level Swashbuckler rogue)
Pale pirate goth half-elf.
Vaguely Anya Taylor-Joy looking?
Hair, lips and legs like Dana Tan from Batman Beyond.
She's not really a pirate - acrobat and tightrope walker, actually - but she's adopted the affectation and the aesthetic with a marvelous grace.
Bubbly, curious, sociable.
She breaks the "rogues need tragic backstories" bullshit by having two very alive and loving parents. Dad's human, mom's an elf, specifically a pallid elf priestess of the Moonweaver. Pallid elves are from the Cyrios Mountains. They have a unique elven culture that Tali wants to honor and learn more about
Her parents were a gentleman and lady thief duo that got famous for stealing from the rich and using some of the money they made selling the stuff they stole to support lower-income communities along the Menagerie Coast. They got into trouble with the Myriad though (Wildemount's major crime syndicate) and went into hiding with the leader of the performers' troupe Tali later joined.
Kind of a city girl at heart but she's lived on the road long enough she can rough it with the rest of them.
Like Tovae she's got a habit of pulling a Robin Hood in towns they visit, picking out the richest asshole and redistributing his shit.
Legs. For. DAYS.
She swings both ways but gets a look at Zaya's monk bod and its that freeway exit meme with heart eyes.
She and Paisley kinda have a simultaneous unspoken thing going on but it never really develops.
Psolana Koa (She/Her, Tiefling, 10th level Echo Knight fighter)
Tiefling surfer girl. NOT a beach bunny, a surfer girl.
Light blue skin, cyan hair, and stubby backward curving horns that are asymmetrical - her right horn has two "nubs" sticking out of the base.
Grew up with a fair amount of money since both parents were renowned artisans (they handmade surfboards and seashell jewelry).
A decision was made at some point during her characterological development that a.) there is a surfing culture on the Menagerie Coast, and b.) tieflings kinda helm it.
Her fighting style is based around throwing knives and daggers. She throws, teleports to her echo's position, repeats the process.
Surfs like she was born to do it, and thanks to being an Echo Knight, she windsurf the same wave from multiple angles.
Got her Dunamis abilities from a grey-white bioluminescent tide, and her echoes look like sea spray and foam.
Out of combat and out of the water though? Total klutz. Gets her horns and tail caught on things, slips, loses her footing, etc.
Her parents - especially dad - were part of an environmentally-conscious surfing community that protected the coast from exploitation and monitored the local coral reefs and stuff, but were forced out when a new leadership took over and started promoting localism on surfing beaches to a violent degree.
Acts cool when she isn't trying, but when she tries, she isn't cool.
Pansexual, politically progressive, vegetarian (except shellfish. She INHALES shellfish).

mighty nein atla au
welcome, listen to me ramble about who bends what and why
caleb
this is literally so obvious do i even need to tell you he’s a firebender. 100% still has canon caleb’s trauma re:fire, is more interested in finding other applications for it
beau
non-bender. fight me on this. she’s the only one of the nein has literally zero magical abilities, she Punches things
fjord
a classic waterbender. starts out fighting mostly with bending, eventually learns swordcraft and now uses a mixture of both. learned to heal a little from caduceus and jester.
caduceus
swamp bender baby!! technically that makes him a waterbender but he never bends plain water. plants and spiritual energy only. healing is very similar to canon, good plants go on wound and he channels their energy into healing
jester
water bender who uses ice a lot is closest to canon i think, but the idea of air bender jester won’t leave me alone. i think its the aang vibes. can u imagine the shenanigans she would get up to with airbending
veth
originally thought she was a non-bender, but picks up a little firebending from caleb. still prefers her crossbow though. on the other hand i love metalbender veth who straight up just bends her lock picks into keys, but that doesn’t really fit with my idea of her level of bending bc metal bending is an advanced earthbending technique.
yasha
tempted to go non bender again, but shes got Vibes. its definitely minor bending, but air comes to mind for her wings or water for the healing. perhaps she gave up bending when zuala died. i originally had her as an earthbender bc buff
bonus molly
either a non bender or a blood bender. again we run into the x-bending is a high level technique problem but i kind of like the idea that maybe lucien was a master water/blood bender and molly got left with the remnants.
