How I feel about this character

Shu Yi is such a fun character to me. He is so painfully honest and blunt. He tries to be aloof and cool but his face is like a 4K TV displaying every emotion he has as he feels them. He is driven by emotional impulses, he for sure never truly thinks about things before he does them. When he's mad he lashes out and when he's sad he cries. He definitely thinks about things more in retrospect. It's part of the reason why Shi De was able to manipulate his way into his life. I do love that Shu Yi says what he's thinking and he doesn't stifle himself and that makes him reliable and trustworthy to me. I appreciate that he calls people out on their BS no matter who they are, people like to treat him like he's stupid or a child and I'm glad he doesn't allow it. I love him.

I loved Shu Yi's friendship with Zhe Yu. I love that Zhe Yu encouraged all of Shu Yi's wrongdoings. They just give off the energy of petty popular girls when they're together.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Personally...I think Shu Yi forgave his father and Shi De too fucking fast. Shi De let that man talk him into GHOSTING Shu Yi for FIVE YEARS and it took almost no fucking effort on his part. Shu Yi was right that Shi De didn't believe in his love for him and Shu Yi's father had NO business interfering. And he gave such an ass-backwards reason behind it. Shi De is exactly where Otou-san was once upon a time and it's not like Shi De was a bad guy he was smart and talented and destined for great things. I think Shu Yi should've let Shi De grovel a lot longer and highkey he should've told his dad to kick rocks until he was ready to accept Shi De. As much as I love Shu Yi's reconciliation with Shi De, sometimes I feel like Shi De didn't deserve it at that time. But Shu Yi was ready to forgive him long before he did.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Unpopular opinion:

I like poolverine (deadclaws, peanutbub, whatever we're calling it). I think it's a fun ship and comic!Wade has been flirting with and teasing Logan for literal decades. And Logan has sometimes played along (with innuendo regarding fighting, for example), but I don't think it's canon requited even in the movie.

Comic!Wade, famously, ALWAYS appears to be joking, so when he's straight up telling the truth, it slips past homophobic censors (like his marriage to Cable- the entire 50 issue comic series was full of jokes about the two being together, and by the end of it they were divorced- somewhere in the middle it stopped being a joke. Before someone cries "he's pansexual" yes he is, but his sexuality has always had the destiel treatment; he is never seen pursuing or going to bed with a man, but you can read between the lines, there's fighting in the writers room and half of them won't let our boy bounce on it).

I think movie!Wade started off admiring The Wolverine as a hero, and fell for Logan along the way, and by the end of the movie he is truly besotted. And hey, he likes a hot bod. I think with billions of dollars on the line and a main actor who would gladly walk from the project if he felt his character was being misrepresented (again), they let Ryan really lean into Wade's sexuality, and push it as far as Disney would allow. I think movie!Wade is in love with movie!Logan and wants to spend a lifetime doing laundry and taxes with him (not that either of them pay taxes).

As for Logan; I do believe he's bisexual (the comic writers have pushed that as far as they can get away with it, with variant covers, alternate universes and shapeshifters. They're trying), but I don't believe he fell for Wade. I think it is always going to be a friendship where he tolerates Wade's romantic affection on the understanding that it is unrequited. However, friendship is already a huge step up from the dislike to outright hate comic!Logan has for Wade sometimes (not to say he doesn't respect Wade as a valuable asset to a team, or that he wants him dead).

Do I think they had metaphorical sex in the Honda? Yes, I think it was a purposeful design choice that we, the audience were supposed to pick up on. Do I think they had literal sex? No. Worst Wolverine has been touch starved for so long that it HAD to have felt good to get up and close to another body (which is why he didn't even care that Wade was rutting against him whilst dreaming of Thor), but after being hated for so long, by literally everybody, I doubt someone as already defensive as Logan could let his guard down enough to be vulnerable. Plus he was metaphorically shackled into the suit.

But, I still think the fanfics and art are fun (and hot) and I hope that the popularity of the movie, along with the success of the marketing, is the start of a shift for their relationship in the comics, and I would absolutely love to see them be queer and in love together.

Character I Think is Underrated: Lan Wangji, if i have to hear “he’s boring” from people who can’t read one more time…

Character I Think is Overrated: all of the antagonists and villains. Jiang Cheng is not "single mother!jiujiu," he is just a bitchless Wen Chao. Jin Guangyao is not "poor little Meng Yao forced to do things against his will," he is a a calculating murderer who will scheme against, betray, and kill anyone who stands between him and ultimate power. Madam Yu is not a "girlboss" (unless we accept the real meaning of that word, which is a woman who gains power by ingratiating herself into oppressive systems as the female alternative to corrupt male leaders), she is a domestic abuser who made every single person in her family and husband's clan miserable.

Favorite Ship/Pairing: Wangxian

Something I Love About the Book: I love the way this book is adamant about good always eventually being rewarded. That even if the outcome of doing good was terrible, that does not make the effort wasted or useless. Lan Wangji protecting Wei Wuxian at Nightless City was worth it even if he was almost killed for it, because it made sure that the yin tiger tally did not end up in the Jin Clan's hands as a completed weapon. Wei Wuxian saving the Wen was worth it even though he was killed for it, because A-Yuan got to live. Wen Qing and Wen Ning saving Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian was worth it even though Jiang Cheng betrayed them in the end, because their clan still got to live through its last descendant. None of their actions were met with immediate rewards, but the larger implications of them led to better outcomes than had they just kept to themselves and the status quo of corruption, as everyone else had.

SVSSS (my favorite of the three 🤗)

Character I Think is Underrated: Bing-mei version of Luo Binghe, not because he's "unpopular," per se, but because mainstream fandom's perception of him seems to be that he is just Bing-ge who cries, and this is a complete mischaracterization of his character based on popular fanon. I see too much hate for him in this fandom because of it

Character I Think is Overrated: Shen Jiu. The man was a child abuser and died to one of his victims because he chose to be a child abuser. There is nothing tragic or unfair about that. Leave that man in the ether where he'll hopefully never have a chance to harm another person again.

Favorite Ship/Pairing: Bingqiu

Something I Love About the Book: Shen Qingqiu. The man is trying his damndest to do right in what he considers a doomed narrative, but the moment he realizes that his efforts have actually made things worse, he immediately pivots his actions. He never tries to justify himself, deflect from criticism, or misplace responsibility. He has one goal in mind, and that is to make as many people's lives as he possibly can better than what they originally ended up as.

Casey was just fun. Like, c'mon, she was balls to the wall insane. From the get go. She had life, she had fire, she didn't give a shit, she played baseball with Elliot and joked with them all, she wanted to get a judge disbarred/arrested, she went to a judge's private home during his poker game and threatened to stay there all night untess he signed her warrant, she took on the entire US army, she got violently assaulted and came back to work the next day expecting to remain on the case and was OFFENDED when they took her off.

Think about all the shit Olivia saw/did/put up with when it came to Elliot, and then look up at that gif, THAT is where Olivia is all "Girl, you're pushing it". When OLIVIA BENSON is holding you back from getting justice, you know you've obliterated a line or two.

But she was also vulnerable and emotional. She cried over little girls in coolers and questioned whether she could remain in SVU, she mourned the boy who committed suicide, she pled out the daughter of the drunken mother because it made Olivia sad. She was scared when she woke up in the hospital. She felt regret over her ex-boyfriend with a mental illness because she had to prioritise herself and he lost control.

She was human.

In a way that, unfortunately, Alex was not able to be, because Alex was created in the year 2000 when police procedural women had to be "professional" and less "emotional". Alex had a very strong hold on her emotions (though they came out on occasion).

Casey? Casey had a hold on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. And I enjoyed it.

Perhaps my unpopular opinion is that I would have liked her to either stay or return. Which is a difficult ask, because I also loved Barba.

Unpopular opinion:as a Chase fan,I don't like his fanon self much. He seems too... Soft,for the lack of a better word? People seem to erase his harsher edges and bad attitudes in favour of a fragile person who wouldn't survive a second under House.

lmao god his fanfic self is so funny. he’s so sweet and prone to self harm and uwu. like mind you, i also see plenty of stuff on tumblr that’s like “this SPOILED RICH KID who is SO DUMB and SO ENTITLED” and i’m like calm down about that also. i’ve been reading a lot of ffn stuff recently and it’s fascinating to see what was written during the show’s run. chase really does get polished to a shine.

i think it’s easy to make chase soft on the one hand: he cries more on the show than anyone else (love that for him), he’s also kind of quiet. weirdly, i think the cam/chase romance is also a factor: the show pretty consistently… does some interesting things with that ship, but, cameron is generally (if gently/sympathetically) shown to be in the wrong, and chase to be the patient and forgiving boyfriend, right? (and this is because the relationship is shown thru cameron’s pov and lens and in terms of her character development; she gets to Make Mistakes so that she grows; chase is largely just her accessory). and then when she leaves, we get to see him be upset about it, which of course only adds to the uwu pretty sadboy filter.

but yeah! chase is prickly! like post-divorce everyone is being really nice and he is super rude and sarcastic and dismissive. he makes sarcastic little comments constantly. he is prone to sulking and passive-aggression. he wants validation and is kind of needy and when he doesn’t get those things he starts rolling his eyes and making weird comments (”works for spaghetti!”). chase also, i think, thinks… pretty highly of himself? like i don’t think he’s arrogant exactly, he’s no foreman. but he clearly doesn’t struggle with self worth. he knows he’s a good surgeon, he knows he’s got money, he hilariously thinks it’s his personality and not his looks that make women like him. he knows he is very good looking. while that isn’t to say he can’t be insecure (he really can be, at least when cameron is concerned), he isn’t self loathing. he knows he’s good at talking to people and doing his job and being pretty.

he’s pretty good at putting on a charming front when he needs to, but it’s very much a front. one of my favorite little things is that in poison he’s chatting up the patient’s mom, lightly joking, being friendly. she gets him removed from the case and he’s outraged, quote: “She complained? About me?” He is literally so mad that someone wouldn’t like him. he is offended. not hurt. not upset. it makes him angry. he is charming, intentionally, he is doing a strategy (his words), people complain about him? it comes up in the mistake, too; stacy mentions he always gets great patient reviews and foreman complains it’s because chase is fake as hell. and other times! chase is so polite and friendly to house, he is completely dismissive of foreman. he barely manages a polite front to park and masters, he can’t wait to not talk to them. he’s (affectionately) fake as all fucking hell. i love the scene in s5 where foreman/13/kutner want him to do a surgery and chase is like lol you’re not house fuck off. like he’s so dismissive. chase gets accused of having no backbone all the time, but the fact is, he has no issue sticking up for himself or being dismissive. when he likes someone he will do anything and everything with no complaint (see: house, cameron), but he doesn’t really like most people. foreman sure as hell never gets a single favor from chase, lmao.

and then to flip-flop, that isn’t to say he can’t be genuine or soft. like, he definitely bonds with children almost whenever he sees one. he hugs house with no ulterior motives. it’s also not to say he can’t be an uwu sadboy, although whenever he is depressed he tends to cover it with as much avoidance/sarcasm/sleeping around and drinking as possible. but like! the kid has been through a lot in his life! just the fact that he moved around the world and left everything behind is actually pretty tough! he’s had to take care of himself since he was a kid, he had two abusive parents, if he was to have a sadboy breakdown it sure wouldn’t be because of house. he’s a fucking survivor. he ratted to vogler because he would rather house hated him than be unemployed, and had no regrets. he’s great and i love him and he deserves it every time he gets punched in the face or called useless

just thought of sejanus plinth, and how all he ever wanted to do was to bring humanity to the people of the districts, to help them. thinking about how he loved coriolanus, even though coriolanus was so capital. he loved him so much that he shipped himself off to foreign district to be with him, because he knew his friend would be scared and he spent the whole train ride there trying to get him to see how this meant they were free now. thinking about how gentle sejanus was—how he continually chose goodness. he gave the tributes sandwiches and declared that they were people, too, and he never stopped speaking out against the hunger games even though it made him unpopular. he had no reason to do that. it served him no purpose. thinking about the way he broke into the arena and scattered bread crumbs over a boy who wouldn’t even look him in the eye, risking an almost certain death, just so that at least in death the kid would be treated as if he mattered. because he did matter. they all mattered to sejanus. it’s what makes his death all that much more tragic—he loved so deeply, and died a cruel death in a home that wasn’t his, calling out for his mother, surrounded by no one that loved him. he died because of coriolanus, and the simple fact that even in someone like him, he still chose to see goodness. and sure, coriolanus cried for him, but the simple fact of the matter was that coryo all but put the noose on his neck, and didn’t even have the decency to look back and see what he’d done
