I feel like when it comes to gay ships/headcanons, it always attracts two annoying groups.

One, being the bigoted dudebros that get angry at any sight of said ships/headcanons and act so whiny about gay people ruining fandoms.

The other being the toxic yaoi/yuri fans that act like their ships/headcanons are universal and put down/harass anyone that don't share the same visions as theirs or have m/f ships/headcanons (neverminding that bi and pan people exist).

Fandom Problem #7198:

I turned 29 this year. Maybe it's because I've been in fandom since the late 00s and I'm just jaded now, but I've grown so damn tired of the way fandoms nowadays are so quick to "other" anyone who has different headcanons than the in-crowd and the popular consensus. People project too quickly, then call their headcanons law. Hell, even popular headcanons get absolutely torn up (as with the people who have them) if you accidentally post or interact with a certain smaller group who disagrees with those headcanons. They make it their life mission to discredit and invalidate you, like it's impossible for fans to have differing innocuous opinions. I've been in quite a few fandoms since their inception and I've watched them blow up, and the overall demographics and participants in them skew and change over time, as the behaviour, and it's totally put me off from fandom participation now, despite having created so much meta and fics that people have enjoyed. But that doesn't even make me smile anymore. I'm just tired now. It's like self-harm to be here now, and take such a huge risk that will have certain groups and, frankly, the core participants in fandom nowadays, tearing you apart, for even just sharing headcanons and sharing what ships you like. Even if they aren't even known as "taboo" kinds of dynamics in real life. It could be something as silly as liking a ship someone thinks "stole" the ship they personally wanted to be canon. I'm done.
