i consider myself a hardcore rarepairer. a crackship extraordinaire if you will. Im here to say that my FAVORITE rarepair of all time is probably g1 megatron/skywarp. i dont know what it is for me but i just feel like they have the potential for a healthy (as healthy as decepticons get) relationship. and i think they would have some cute interactions and skywarp could get him to loosen up a bit and AUGH. and skywarp would just think meg is SO cool. plus they just look cute together.

Hmmm I think I would say for most things I do not want them to become canon bc the ambiguity is crunch, but I would really like my fun Nie Senior-WRH sworn brotherhood headcanon to be canon. I think that would be extra crunchy and extra terrible given all that went down with THAT. 2/3 Nie Sect Leaders murdered by sworn brother! exciting! dramatic! perilously terrible! intergenerational trauma! this would be so fun.

Now, I am a crackshipper extraordinaire but I think my most recent "hmmm" about WRH/JYL might be a next level evolution state. also at one point I thought of WZL/YZY but I'm coming back around to those two being adopted siblings in a parallel to chengxian but I also ship chengxian so MAYBE BOTH. let's be real most of my brain is taken up by ideas for "generational trauma parallels" so :D this is entirely on brand for me.

Sicktember 2024 Day 6 - Borrowed Hoodie

Geeta and Diantha. My beloveds. My weird little pet crackship.

Snow.

They could have at least warned her.

Geeta crossed her arms and surveyed the vast white expanse that stretched out beyond the perimeters of the lobby windows. Espace Avalugg, Kalosian ski resort extraordinaire.

The sun reflecting off the snow stabbed into her eyes and worsened the pounding in her head. She hadn't signed up for this.

Oh, well. No point in sitting around feeling sorry for herself. A vacation was a vacation, even if she'd been shipped off to the mountains.

…Paldea had mountains. Couldn't the Board have banished her to one of Glaseado’s resorts?

But never mind that.

Turning away from the windows, she examined the lobby gift shop as she walked to it. Indistinct shapes and colors sharpened into display racks and shelves— mostly empty.

The women’s section had been cleaned out. Racks promising fine wool sweaters and down jackets now showed nothing but the shiny metal crossbar that had once held hangers. The men’s section, likewise, held only a few XXL snowboarding jackets in the most garish colors imaginable. Nothing she’d ever be caught dead in, even if they were small enough to wear.

“Geeta?” A pleasant, feminine voice cut the air, just loud enough to catch her attention. Maddeningly familiar, too… Geeta turned. Diantha smiled at her from only a few feet away, more beautiful than ever with her face all flushed from the cold. “I thought that was you!”

“Diantha.” Geeta smiled, her heart pounding. What was she doing here? Of all places, of all circumstances. Why here?

She leaned in automatically to accept Diantha's greeting, breathing in the light scent of her perfume. Their cheeks brushed and Geeta's head throbbed in time with her heart, spinning the world on a sparkling axis.

“You didn't tell me you were in Kalos,” Diantha said, eyeing Geeta with mild reproach. “Were you hiding from me?”

“Not at all.” Diantha's eyes, wide and searching, sparkled blue in the overhead lights. Geeta forced her gaze downward, away. “I'm afraid it was a last minute trip.” No sense in humiliating herself by telling the truth, that the Board had forced this on her in lieu of a real punishment. That she'd let a child embezzle under her nose.

“Well!” Diantha clapped her hands. “Are you busy tonight? You simply must join me in my suite. I've been meaning to use the kitchenette; I'm paying for it after all. It's no 5-star experience, but I think you'll find the champagne much cheaper.” And she winked, momentarily stopping Geeta's heart.

Never mind the jacket, she'd have to find some painkillers. Something she could take with alcohol.

The icy trek from one opulent building to the next left Geeta shivering, with snow melting into her shoes and a stinging face from the night wind. She’d packed for the beach, not the mountains, and her heaviest layer (a light zip-up hoodie) did nothing to keep out the icy air.

She arrived on Diantha's threshold a shivering mess, her head throbbing and her hair all in her face. Mascara that had dripped from her teary eyes made cold pools on her lower lids, stinging the delicate skin. She sniffled and knocked on the door, wiping black tears from her cheeks.

The door swung open and Diantha appeared in an apron that hung carelessly over her wonderful figure. “Where's your jacket?” she asked, forgoing any greeting. No doubt Geeta looked like she'd just Battled her way through a legion of Beartic. “Come in, come in, warm up. You must be freezing.”

Geeta allowed Diantha to bundle her inside, nearly tripping over herself to kick off her shoes as she went.

“Chérie,” Diantha said, leading her to the couch, “just how impromptu was this vacation?”

Pain pulsed behind Geeta's eyes. She kept them open. Diantha looked perfectly at home in the opulent suite. She'd probably tucked her belongings neatly away in the dresser and closet, probably arranged her lotions and makeup on the bathroom counter on her very first night.

She was nothing like Geeta. No controversies dogged her, no. Blameless, she'd floated through Kalos’ various misfortunes like the moon shining ever through the clouds.

“There's no point getting into it,” Geeta said. Diantha flitted to the kitchen and poured out a glass of red wine. “But I was expecting to arrive at a beach house this morning, not…” She gestured vaguely at the walls of the suite and the snowscape beyond them.

“You did come alone, didn't you?” Diantha paused with the wine glass extended, her face portraying picture-perfect dismay at even this vague possibility of rudeness.

“I did.” Geeta took the wine glass with a murmur of thanks and pressed it to her lips. The rich weight of the wine ran over her tongue, down her throat, in a race to her veins. Diantha’s intoxicating presence had beaten it there, of course, but the two could only complement each other.

Wine and enticing company.

If only Geeta didn't feel so terrible.

She'd only just shaken off the cold tremors, but the warmth of the electric fireplace had yet to penetrate what remained of the chill. And of course— of course, she'd forgotten to take painkillers, too caught up in the rush of finding something decent to wear. Something that might draw Diantha's eye to her.

What a joke.

Her dignity was falling to pieces faster than she could patch it up.

“Are you feeling alright?” Diantha asked. “You didn't catch a chill out there, did you?”

Would it be so bad to lose it here? Here in the low light and the sweet thrill of Diantha's room? That queen bed in the corner looked more and more enticing with each wash of wine in her mouth.

With or without Diantha.

“I'm not used to the cold,” Geeta murmured. Golden flames danced in the electric fireplace. Like a ghost, Diantha's reflection floated away.

She returned a moment later with something white bundled up in her arms. A sweater. She shook it into shape, revealing a tasteful blue stripe across the chest and the implication of a price tag that would have had Geeta’s head spinning even if she was in perfect health. “Put this on.”

“Oh, Diantha, I—”

“Don't make me put it on for you.” Mischief glinted in Diantha's eyes. “Because I will.”

“I couldn't,” Geeta said, but she reached out for it. Soft wool melted into her hands. She shrugged out of her thin hoodie and pulled the sweater over her head, breathing in the sweet smell of Diantha's perfume. “Thank you.”

“Now lie back and kick your feet up.”

“Diantha…”

Diantha winked at her and darted away for the wine bottle to refresh Geeta's glass. “I know how hard you work, chérie. We all do. Let someone else take care of you for a change. Yes?”

Geeta ran her hands down the sweater’s sleeves and suppressed a shudder of pleasure at the thought. “I think I'd like that.”

BtVS: Smashed, Wrecked, and... that's all I can think of? I mean, in terms of "most rewatchable" nothing else comes to mind. Maybe The Witch and Bewitched, Bewildered and Bothered, I guess?

5. Your ten favorite Buffyverse characters?

Amy, Wesley, Xander, Cordelia, Kate, Illyria, Faith, Lilah, Angel, Willow

How would you rank the seven seasons of BtVS from your favorite to least favorite?

I hate this question, because there's not a single BtVS season I don't have about a thousand and one caveats to any opinion I have of it. I loathe most of Season 6, but it has two of my favorite episodes (Smashed and Wrecked), and I love large parts of Season 2 for the Xander and Cordelia dynamic, but the Angelus arc is far less entertaining to me after the first watchthrough. I like Season 3 for the Faith and the Xandelia at the start and even post-breakup for their snark, but also I hate that they were broken up in such a hamfisted way. Season 7 has some meh parts, but also some good ones. Five stands out pretty good overall, but I still loathe some of the choices the writers made. 4 has some great humor, and I liked Riley damnit, but the Initiative plot was a great idea executed poorly.

Still, Season 3 is probably my 'favorite' if I was forced to pick one, followed by 5. I don't know about the rest. I'd probably put 1 as my least favorite, but only because I have to put a season there.

7. How would you rank the five seasons of AtS from your favorite to least favorite?

Same with BtVS, this is really hard. I love Season 4 (in many ways it is AtS at it's best, IMO) but the last few episodes before "Home" with Jasmine actually being onscreen are incredibly tedious. Season 3 has some great moments in the first 3/4s, but then the entire AI Team takes stupid pills, especially after the events of Sleep Tight, and it's got some weird and unworky episodes. Season 2 has some great moments, but the Darla bits don't generally work for me, especially after she becomes a Vampire, but it's got some of the great standout moments like the entire Pylea arc, and dead Holland's scene with Angel in the Elevator and Untouched.

Season 5 has some of the best standalone episodes, (Origin and Time Bomb are fucking perfect) but I despise how the Season undermined it's initial message with the finale and frankly, Spike should not have been in the Season at all (he's amusing, and I like him well enough, but he does not fit thematically, narratively or character-wise, his whole presence is a cancerous sore thumb sticking out and messing with things).

Season 1 has some... off moments, but it also is when the show is most rooted in it's original noir-esque flavor that we lost all too quickly, and has some great scenes with Kate that I absolutely love. Plus, the Season is fairly down to earth and focuses most on the 'saving souls' aspect of the show that got discarded later on. But also, I'm not actually a fan of goofy early Wes (not as much as I am of serious later Wes anyway), so those parts can be painful. But equally Five by Five and Sanctuary are great so...

Even more than with BtVS, I just don't have an answer for you.

8. Three unpopular opinions (with a bonus 4th)

Canon Buffy is aggressively heterosexual

Faith made her own damn bed and actively refused any and all help and while help from the others could have done a lot to salvage her situation, it would not have been easy to get her to accept it

Buffy/Riley was actually pretty cute and had it's good moments and while I don't think it would have lasted, I despise the way the writers ended it.

Spike did not belong in AtS Season 5 at all, beyond maybe a cameo in the first few episodes, at most.
