Whump/Angst things that are so not original but make me go crazy every time:
Caretaker finding sick Whumpee in the middle of the night, curled up on the bathroom floor...
Feverish. And. Incoherent. Whumpee. Who. Mumbles. Complete. Nonsense. In. Their. Sleep. (This one is the one)
Whumpee being carried while their head rests on Caretaker's chest and their arm slumps down at their side.
Silent tears while being medically treated. They could be tears of relief/pain/fear... you choose.
Whumpee sobbing like a child in Caretaker's warm arms after an awful nightmare...
...and Caretaker staying with them until they fall back asleep or, even better, bringing them to their own bed so Whumpee won't be scared of being alone.
Days of silence until they finally break and tell everything to Caretaker.
"you're burning up..."
"...Caretaker?" "I'm right here"
"it's okay, it's okay, I've got you"
"you didn't do anything wrong"
"do you think you can keep some soup down?"
"please... stay" "of course"
"are you sure you're ok? You look like you're gonna pass out or puke... Or both"
Feel free to add what you like!

When the caretaking continues after they're discharged from the hospital >>>
"Don't think you're off the hook once we're out of here... you aren't leaving bed for another few days."
The drive home is quiet. Whumpee is fast asleep in the passenger's seat, head resting against the window. Caretaker tries their best not to hit any bumps, and their heart breaks when they have to wake Whumpee to carry them inside.
Whumpee is finally able to rest without a needle in their arm or the annoying constant beeping of a heart monitor.
Caretaker is no longer so anxious about Whumpee's condition; they don't need machines or constant surveillance anymore.
Whumpee gets to taste their first home cooked meal in a while, being spoon-fed by Caretaker to conserve energy.
Caretaker finally gets to sleep in a bed again — they'd been sleeping in a hard plastic chair at Whumpee's bedside for the entire hospital stay, never leaving once.
Maybe Whumpee still has lasting effects from anesthesia or pain meds, or delirium from a fever. It makes them say silly things.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again."
Caretaker spoiling them, getting them anything they want, showing tons of affection, hugs, kisses, cuddles, because god, they are just so glad to have them back home and on the mend.
Whumpee gets their first bath or shower in days or weeks, assisted lovingly by Caretaker, and they can feel clean again. Hair no longer tangled, skin no longer oily. Bonus points if they spend an hour shivering or sneezing once they get out and into pajamas <3
Caretaker has to regularly dress and undress Whumpee's wounds, and they wince every time they have to look at it all. Maybe Whumpee cries because it hurts to touch, and there's a lot of "shh... It's okay... Almost done, I'm so sorry..."
Whumpee insists they're well enough to walk around now, trips and falls as soon as they're out of bed. Expectedly, they won't be allowed to do that again anytime soon.
"That cough still doesn't sound good... you sure we don't need to go back?"

It's interesting chatting with Sneezy People™️ sometimes simply because their lived experience is so different from mine. It seems to go both ways, too, because as much as I have a hard time grasping the concept of sneezing every day, or even just the idea that simply being around something can make someone sneeze, they sometimes seem to have a hard time grasping that, for some people, those things don't happen.
"Can't you induce just by rubbing your nose?"
"Well, around that much pollen, anyone would sneeze... Right?"
"Wait, months?! You've gone months without sneezing?! How is that even possible??"
Like, my friend, believe me, you are just as much of a mystery to me.

“Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while!” turning into “oh shit, this is why” as whumpee who has pushed themselves back into their normal activities too soon collapses in front of them 🫣

When a person passes out from pain, what actually makes them pass out? Is it just because it's too much pain? Also, how long would they stay out? Like would they wake up after a few minutes or would it be more like a few hours? Is there a point where someone would say "okay they've been unconscious too long so we gotta do something?" Idk it's just such a good trope but I have no clue as to how to write it accurately!
Fainting from pain is an example of vasovagal syncope. This occurs when stress stimulates the vagus nerve, causing the blood pressure to drop. The sudden drop in blood pressure reduces blood flow to the brain and causes loss of consciousness.
Patients who experience vasovagal syncope should regain consciousness in seconds or minutes. This can be helped by laying them flat on their back and elevating their legs. If a person doesn't regain consciousness within a few minutes, it's likely that something else is going on.
Happy whumping!

I've seen this twice now, which officially makes it a trope:
A triple "damn" before passing out
Once when a character realizes they're in worse shape than they thought
A second time when they realize they're in significantly worse shape than they thought
A third and final time when it hits that they're about to pass out
