critical role perfectly exemplifies the ttrpg batshit character syndrome™ where every new character and character choice made will somehow be exponentially crazier than the one before. there's so many good examples but one of my favourites is the pet situation in every campaign bc it's literally:

c1: armored bear, useful in battle and very cute

c2: traumatized weasel alive against all odds and a magic cat
