CritRole Fighting Game Masterpost:
I have this ideas for movesets for characters from Critical Role for a Fighting Game and I've made some movelists based on the fanart I've seen... I DO have to do a lot more characters so far, so I'm gonna put the ones already done here:
Grog and Yasha! (Art by @marie-claire-art)
Scanlan and Avantika!
Beau (and eventually Ashton!) (Art by @oddthesungod)
Characters I still have planned:
From Vox Machina:
- Grog
- Scanlan
- Vax
- Keyleth
- Pike
- Vex (w/ Trinket!)
- Percy
- Tary
- Tiberius (Fuck his player, but the character was fun.)
- Bertrand Bell (Obligatory joke character!)
- The Briarwoods (Delilah main w/ Sylas install!)
- Anna Ripley
- Raishan
From The Mighty Nein:
- Beau
- Yasha
- Fjord
- Jester
- Mollymauk / Kingsley / Lucien (It'll make sense, I swear!)
- Caduceus
- Nott (She'll get a drunk meter!)
- Veth (Essentially "Akuma Nott"!)
- Caleb
- Essek
- Lorenzo
- Avantika
- Obann
- Astrid (and Eadwulf)
- Trent Ikithon
Obligatory Wave 1 DLC - Friends of Vox Machina:
- Gilmore
- Kash
- Zahra
- Kerrek
- Allura & Kima
DLC Wave 2 - Friends of the Mighty Nein:
- Pumat Sol
- Calianna
- Shakaste
- Keg
- Twiggy
- Reani
DLC Wave 3 - The Crownkeepers:
- Opal (and Ted!)
- Fy'ra Rai
- Dariax
- Morrighan
- Dorian Storm
DLC Wave 4 - Bell's Hells:
- Imogen
- Laudna
- Orym
- Fearne
- Ashton
- Fresh Cut Grass
- Chetney
- Braius
DLC Wave 5 - Hellish Villains:
- Otohan Thull
- Sorrowlord Zathuda
- Ludinus Da'leth
- And Matt Mercer, as the Dungeon Master.
That's all! I was debating putting Yussa in there, but I realized bro just stayed on his tower and occasionally needed rescue...
Hopefully I don't take another YEAR to complete the next character on the list... Spoilers for the campaigns in the move lists, btw! Just in case!
If you're interested in hearing about any particualr one, lemme know!

SUPERS! - Fury of Beau's!: Beau dashes forward at full speed with Step of the Wind and crashes against the enemy. If it's not blocked, this attack starts a MASSIVE long Combo! The most SNK-Rush-Super thing you can imagine and it ends with her poping her opponent upwards and hitting a flying kick worthy of Bruce Lee to finish! - Stillness of Mind: Beau takes a deep breath and an aura envelops her. For the duration of this aura, Beau is immune to stuns, pop-ups and bounces of any kind, effectively cutting the enemy's Combos short every time. - Debilitating Barrage: A heavy hitting three-piece combo that hits slow and hits like a TRUCK! Beau puts all her body into the first two hits, and then closes it out with a One-Inch Punch! For a few seconds after this Super hits, enemies take extra damage from any non-projectile attack that comes from Beau! If the enemy blocks this Super, the full combo continues, but can be interrupted. However, the final hit is slow, but Unblockable. CRITICAL ATTACK!!! DIAMOND SOUL: Beau pulls out her Wind Fan and sends a BIG wind projectile forward! It can be blocked. If it hits, though, the fun begins! Beau rushes forward and cracks a staff over the enemy's head, which stuns them for a second... JUST long enough for Dairon to fly in and kick them over the head again! That's right! Guest-Super! The two proceed to demonstrate a Teacher-Student beatdown upon the enemy and aventually demolish them physically. Once the enemy is sufficiently beaten up, Dairon holds them up so Beau can have the killing blow, to which Beau answers by backing up, and FLYING FORWARD with Step of the Wind and hitting a final Double Fist at LUDICROUS speeds! Dairon bows and jumps off screen if the move doesn't kill, and stays and gives Beau pointers on her form if the move ends the fight. I think her victory poses would involve writing in her journal and taking notes, pulling out a bottle of Lionett Wine and drinking it or just putting on her Cape of the Mountebank and vanishing with Dimension Door! That or putting on her Headband of Intellect and sitting down to meditate on the spot. And that's what I've got for Beau! @oddthesungod made this wonderful art and I was INSPIRED! When Campaign 3 ends, I'll come back and do one for Ashton!

I feel like the Otohan situation on a viewer level is very much not taking into account the fact that maybe she was boring to us, the audience, but I KNOW INTIMATELY that feeling of dread on Marisha’s face every time she yelled TRESHI SCRY BALL, like you have not experienced true fear like barely escaping an encounter with an OP Mook that’s going to take your ass down and how exciting/terrifying it is every time they show up no matter how unimportant to the plot they are. Like that was for THEM.
Anyway I swear I’m done having opinions on something I don’t actually care that much about because whatever it was, it was good and the players were emotionally compromised by it in the best way, but lol it does seriously remind me of my gaming days. I have been in that fight with that asshole and I was scared and had fun and had some of the most epic moments from it.

Throwing my hat in the ring, I think Sam is going to (not should, going to) most likely come back with some sort of paladin, Most likely ancestries, imo, are dwarf, kenku, or a very small tabaxi. One of the moon people would be fun but it's harder to justify them with good healing abilities, short of some sort of bioengineer themed artificer. Either he utilizes the jail break that was concurrent with the split-party mission to bring in a paladin of a Betrayer god (very juicy potential that brings in god-loyalty from a new direction) or throws a lawful good paladin from Vasselheim at them and watches everyone cringe.
In conclusion: I think they should let Sam play Teven Klask's daughter.

SUPREMELY frustrating that we found something actually really cool and intriguing and plot relevant in tonight's session but I'm still so constantly preoccupied with whether the DM is going to 100% kill us with sheer poor game design that I barely have enough brainspace left over to even enjoy it
#the first half of the session was a random-off-a-rolltable encounter that had nothing to do with anything and gave us literally nothing#and used up all our resources and took a REALLY long time because it was-- you guessed it! another deadly encounter for some reason!!#that's 100% of the encounters we've had so far!#and EXPLICITLY not related to what we were trying to investigate AND creatures that drop neither loot NOR BODIES#(two wil o the wisps and a water wierd)#we did a lot better in this encounter but it WAS deadly going off CR#and the point is now we've done just a short rest and THEN found the Plot Thing-- which our bard used up a bunch of resources to access#SO NOW IT'S LIKE. OKAY LOOK. I WANNA PLAY IN THIS SPACE BUT YOU KEEP TRYING TO KILL US WITH THINGS THAT AREN'T EVEN IMPORTANT#ARE YOU ABOUT TO WHOOPSIE-DOODLE US INTO A TPK ON ACCIDENT HERE???#like... it FEELS dangerous and A Bad Idea to engage with in a way that paradoxically SHOULD mean it's safer in a game like this#like-- okay if this was ACTUALLY as dangerous as it feels we wouldn't BE here on session six. does that make sense?#like when justin had us encounter a lich at level two in session three and I was immediately like OH okay he must have a plan here.#clearly some Scripted Plot is going to happen because there's no other reason he would put us up against a lich three sessions in. you know?#we started dying immediately and I was not afraid at all as a player because I trust justin wouldn't do that for no reason#or be so stupid to have that happen accidentally#THIS CAMPAIGN HOWEVER.... I DON'T TRUST LIKE THAT!!!#ARE WE GONNA FOR REAL PERMADIE BECAUSE YOU WASTED ALL OF OUR RESOURCES ON A RANDOM ENCOUNTER FIRST AND YOU DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THAT#ARE WE GONNA FOR REAL PERMADIE BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T REALIZE WE COULD USE THE ITEM YOU GAVE US TO OPEN THIS DOOR WITH A 5TH LEVEL SPELL#I WANNA PLAY IN THE SPACE BUT IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THERE'S ROOM FOR RISKTAKING WHERE THE BAD OUTCOMES WOULDN'T BE UNFUN CATASTROPHIC#AAAAUUUUGHHH#[shaking him violently] what do you mean that random encounter was a deadly encounter again what do you MEEEAAN#'oh huh this fight's taking longer than I thought' THEIR AC IS 19 AND THEY'RE RESISTANT TO NONMAGIC DAMAGE??#THE WATER WIERD KEEPS DISAPPEARING BACK INTO THE POND WHERE IT'S INVISIBLE??? MY BROTHER IN CHRIST HOW DID YOU EXPECT US TO DO IT FAST#hhhhhHHHH!!!!#I SHOULD BE THINKING AND TALKING ABOUT HOW COOL THE SECOND HALF OF THE SESSION GENUINELY WAS BUT I'M TOO STRESSED TO HAVE FUN#cannot stress enough that I'm in a million campaigns and I never have this problem with other DMs or with Highly Dangerous DnD Situations#melliwyk's party are in mortal peril constantly and it's... reaching a point where it's tiresome for how badly it's wearing on the PCs#but it rarely feels unfun stressful as a player playing a game#I never feel like the DM is about to accidentally end the whole campaign by bumblefucking us into a TPK at random#you know? it's different. this just feels unmanageable

whenever i need a laugh or a smile i go back and watch the early bells hells episodes. like pre-bassuras was such an insane vibe for an adventuring party and the shit they got into? unparalleled. truly just a collection of guys doing shit and sometimes experiencing consequences. and then bassuras came down on them like the fucking sword of damocles. i hope that one day, when this is all over, bells hells will still travel, doing dumb shit and fucking around like they once did for lord ariks eshteross. i hope they find that peace once their questions are answered, but i don’t know if a quiet life is for them. i think they’d just continue on, continue to scheme, do incredibly chaotic shit for forever. just let them throw parties, root out government corruption and little shade creepers every once in a while, and pretend to be ghosts, that’s the proper bells hells post-campaign enrichment plan

No Strings Attached
Summary: Jarett may not usually fight alongside his employers, but he knows them well enough to know when something just isn't right. They do this all the time, so surely they have some kind of strategy for if their cleric gets possessed, right? Pike has an unusual strategy for being in two places at once, and she trusts her friends implicitly. If only they had that much trust in themselves. Also on AO3.
Jarett darted behind the piece of broken wall Vax was already huddled behind and dropped to a crouch next to him. Every line of Vax's form screamed stress.
“Vax. Not to complicate this already terrible situation, but…” Jarett grimaced, trying to figure out the right way to explain.
“Yes?” said Vax, distractedly. He stared apprehensively at the spot where Percy had just unloaded several shots into a wyvern, but his eyes did not track its movement, as if he was lost in his own thoughts. A flash briefly illuminated the battlefield, its radiance casting Vax and Jarett into even deeper shadow, as Pike fired off a spell and sprinted for the next piece of cover as fast as her short legs could carry her.
Jarett hesitated, wondering if he was making a mistake.
Vax glanced over at him, eyes focused again. “Yes, Jarett, what is it?”
“I think there is something wrong with Pike,” he blurted. “She is acting strangely; she does not sound like herself. We must be on guard. If something is possessing Pike and pretending to be her, this could be a trap for us all.”
Vax closed his eyes and dropped his forehead against the stone in front of him with a soft thud. “Fuck!”
A slight scrape of stone on the other side of the wall made his head snap up again. He exploded to his feet, flinging three daggers in quick succession to bury themselves to the hilt into the monster's head. It let out an ear-splitting screech, clawing at the dagger buried in one eye, and Vax bolted, grabbing Jarett by the back of his collar and dragging him along.
Jarett stumbled scrambling to keep up, until they reached a larger, intact wall and Vax crammed them both into a shadowed alcove, Jarett first.
Jarett eyed him warily. “You do not seem as surprised as I expected.”
Vax cautiously peeked out of the alcove, checking for enemies, and at first Jarett thought he wasn't going to answer. Then, satisfied with his check, he spun back to Jarett and leaned in close.
“She's not here.”
“What?”
“Pike's not here,” hissed Vax. “Well, her body is, but—She's checking out that tunnel while we keep them busy, looking for any way to collapse that contraption and stop it. Astral projection. We were going to leave her safely behind, but she insisted we needed a healer and that they might get suspicious if she wasn't fighting with us.”
Jarett blinked at him, stunned. “But—” The distinctive warmth of one of Pike's group healing spells washed over him, and a cut over Vax's eye closed up. “—then who is that?!”
“Vex,” said Vax, miserably. “And me. Pike figured out a way to let us basically puppet her around while her conscious focus is elsewhere.”
The boom of falling rocks from the middle of the battlefield made Vax flinch, and he frantically grabbed for his earring. “Vex, did you get her—?” Jarett couldn't hear the answer, but Vax's relieved sag against the wall made it clear enough: Pike had escaped the impact.
They both poked their heads out of the alcove, scanning for enemies. Vax's daggers combined with Jarett's crossbow sent one of the still-flying wyverns crashing into the dirt. It didn't move again, and its rider tumbled across the ground.
Jarett ducked back into cover. “Why you?” Of all the questions spinning through his head, it was probably the one that mattered the least.
Vax rattled off the answer without hesitation—clearly, it had been a point of discussion. “Keyleth and Percy don't get on with gods; Grog knows less about magic than even I do and spends most of battle in a rage, and Scanlan—”
“Is Scanlan. Say no more.”
“Yeah, well—Shit!” A flash of panic crossed Vax's face as his eyes unfocused once more. A moment later he blinked and muttered, clearly not to Jarett, “Yeah, mostly got her out. Still got clipped by part of the swing, though. Should she heal herself or try to hit the fucker before he can get another swing in?”
Pike skidded to a stop next to Jarett, grabbing his arm and healing him. “Hey. More guys coming up from the south. Can you get to that gate and get it barred so we don't have more of these fuckers to deal with? Vex and Grog will cover you.”
A shower of arrows from above peppered their nearest enemies as the shadow of Vex on her broom swept over.
“Uh, yes. Yes, of course.” Jarett looked down into Pike's blue eyes. Vax's accent and manner of speaking coming from Pike's mouth in Pike's voice was somehow even more unsettling than the twins' imperfect imitation of her own. From the corner of his eye, he could see Vax clinging for dear life to the back of the wyvern vigorously attempting to buck him and his daggers off.
“Thank you, darling,” said Pike, now with Vex's forced brightness. “Clear path between the pillar to your left and the rider impaled on a tree. Hurry.”
Pike darted back behind a wall next to another guard and reached for her earring, her tone sliding smoothly back into a bubbly approximation of Pike's usual voice. “OK, guys, who else needs healing?”
Grog, currently smoldering and with a worryingly large hole in one thigh, said “No rush, Pikey, but I could use a little smidge when you have a chance…”
“Sure thing, buddy!” chirped Pike.
There were no wyverns left, and most of their grounded riders were down, too, when there was a distant boom and a slight shudder in the ground. Friends and enemies alike reacted in apprehension, trying to place what had happened and whether it boded good or ill.
“Oh, wow,” said Pike suddenly. “That's—Ooo, gosh, you guys have been having a time of it, haven't you? How's everyone doing?”
Multiple heads whipped around to look at her. She doubled over, one hand pressed to a wound in her side from a claw that had slipped between armor plates.
“Pike!” A swirl of black feathers plummeted from the air like a meteor to land beside her. “Oh gods, are you all right? I'm so sorry. I—”
Pike gently batted away his extended hand before it could touch her shoulder. “I'm fine; I'm OK. Save it for someone in worse shape.” She beamed up at him despite tears of pain welling up in the corners of her eyes. “You did great.”
“You're hurt.”
“No worse than normal for our fights; it just caught me by surprise just now. And we did it!”
Vax crumpled to his knees and wrapped her in a hug with arms and wings alike.
A small gauntleted hand poked out through feathers to pat vaguely in the vicinity of Vax's back. “Hey… hey, it's OK. You guys did great. I knew you would. I knew I'd be fine.”
Vax huffed a laugh that sounded more like a sob. “I didn't. Don't ever do that to us again. I thought we were going to get you killed.”

Vampire Bashter is everything.
if you have time/spoons for it, I would love a follow up to the last one with Jesters first meal.
HEY! Last Valentines ask, woo - I went a slightly different direction for this one, I hope you don't mind. It started as a little tiny leadup to a first nibble, but was starting to get a touch long for a quick snippet.
Everything after is pretty blurry. Not like she has something in her eye or anything - if anything, a few blinks in everything is sharper. Acute. But blurry as in smeared, as in everything is moving fast and she can hardly keep up, as in she’s moving fast and her head’s still looking a little too far to the left.
Oh. Oh man. She gets it now. Gets why Yasha’s eyes trail over the aftermath of a fight. Gets to feel her blood, what’s left, sloshing to lazy heartbeats. Gets is really doing work, is what she means.
Caleb’s blurry with blood - Jester skids through it when she throws herself down to help. There’s a second where she licks her lips, runs a finger through the caterpillar crawl, coaxes it onto her finger to admire, before - before it hits her this is Caleb, their Cay-leb, and he’s dead and she’s -
She casts Revivify. Expects it to hurt. It doesn’t.
Caleb breathes again, and his wounds give one last gurgle, and Jester gurgles something of her own and pats his head and stumbles away.
The fleshy, weeping walls of Cognouza look juicy.
--
Jester almost forgot about the whole ‘oh yeah I’m a vampire now’ thing. Honest. Really!
(They’d saved the world, and Lucien was dead, and Molly was too, and whoever was here was scared, and she wasn’t scared, she was just tired and hungry. So. Nothing to talk about! It could wait.)
The afternoon sun is drowsy, filtered through clouds like satin sheets.
It burns.
Yasha throws a wing over. The feathers don’t sear, though her exposed skin does as she gently shuffles Jester into the shade. A shove would have done the job.
“Yasha -”
“It’s fine,” she says, when they’re both under the trees. The rest of the Nein hasten to explain the broad strokes to the Clays, celebratory return (a heroes’ welcome! And she’s missing out!) dampened just a bit.
She isn’t, she really isn’t. So Jester huffs and - and she has to really lean up on her tippy-toes, so high she thinks she might topple, to take Yasha’s face in her hands and cast Cure Wounds. Just enough to help.
“Now it’s fine,” she declares. Hesitates  - she can almost hover like this, with Yasha’s jaw as an achor, and feel the muscles pulling there. It’s almost normal, not like it was around the others. Because they’re both vampires, now.
“Yasha?”
“Hm?”
Jester bites her lip. Doesn’t think it through - her fangs are more, now, and they draw a nice little gash in red ink. She doesn’t have enough blood for that, anymore. “It - it’ll be fine, right, Yasha?”
Her brows furrow, her wings fold. “I - I mean. I can’t promise that. ‘Cause it wasn’t alright for me.” Jester winces. The honesty is nice, though, even as Yasha stammers. “But! We’ll try. Okay? We’ll try for fine.”
“Thanks, Yasha.” Jester sniffles.
She isn’t crying, even as her eyes burn, desperate for tears.
They always tell you how vampires get blood from other people. Like how Yasha drinks from Beau, sometimes from bad guys they’re killing anyways. Not that Jester’s seen her do it, but - she’s read a few books, okay?
No one ever talks about where the tears come from. Apparently because they’ve only got so many, after they turn.
Guess she used all of them on Molly’s body. Haha.
