one of these days i’ll write my analysis on why lonely king is the perfect las nevadas song bc it fully encapsulates/highlights how well cpurpled and cquackity act as narrative foils
#icarus speaks#LIKE#it might’ve been an accident on cg5’s part. hell if i know his thoughts on the ourp#but it DOES show how well they’re written in-canon. if fansongs focused on only one of them can act for them both#bc like. all the lines are about cq right? but they’re ALSO applicable to purp#even ones that feel Super specific. like the ‘told to have to walk away’ line being about q and l’manberg#GUESS WHO IT ALSO APPLIES TO#and it just shows how while q is playing it up. he does not truly Believe all of this. but he’s doing it because he has to#purp is EXACTLY that without trying. he’s the ruthless leader who only cares about a legacy#fucking genius. poetic cinema

concept for a running gag, PB making a potentially off putting or extremely wacky concept and someone assumes its a metaphor and she says 'It's not a metaphor~!" in exactly the same way as Candy Queen saying that in Fionna And Cake, and always with the same kind of 'oh my what an escalation' as CQ revealing a giant spiked blender
bonus points if it is actually Simon who keeps saying this and its not terribly clear if he's actually aware of it or so insistent that she is the greatest genius of all time (which is probably true) that he assumes she is constantly talking in creative metaphors (which she rarely does, she's perfectly honest about her demented weirdo intentions and mad science schemes)

Synopsis: Divided into 2 teams to cook assigned dishes with the kimchi from last episode
Production: There's never really much innovation needed with basic cooking shows, the format is almost formulaic but it's well-executed and edited

Loser: JH, JM, JK
Best Cheater: none
Member Moments:
RM: RM's battle with the onion. is it peeled? i didn't tell you to mince it!
JN: Jin's face when he spilled the sesame seeds. and then how he whined when RM accused him of ruining it.

JH: Hobi is such a great reactor when he tastes something he likes. he always seems so surprised !
JM: Jimin's teamwork in this episode is really quite exemplary
V: The insert about plate selection. he knows he's got to surpass his genius of the squirrel from the last time in this kitchen.

Ooh, let me!
Hiveworks ( https://www.hiveworkscomics.com/ ) is a collective of a bunch of great webcomics!
Do you want queer shonen silliness? El Goonish Shive has been going for 20 years, and has become my favorite in that time.
Do you want ADVENTURE, ROMANCE, AND MAD SCIENCE? Kaja and Phil Foglio's Girl Genius is AMAZING.
Do you want sci fi silliness? Check out Cassiopeia Quinn.
There is a TON of awesome stuff there. Read it all.
(Also yes all three of these have good romance subplots though it's still latent in CQ)
Hey Unpretty!
I have a serious resource question. I want to read GOOD webcomics, but i don't know where to find them. I was reading Lore Olympus and i loved it and now I'm searching for other comics like it, to no avail. And then i remembered how deep you've got your tentacles into the fanweb, and I thought if anybody would know about good webcomics, it'd be you.
Thank you in advance ❤️
based on lore olympus, you might also like:
Barbarous
Phantomarine
Ingress Adventuring Company
Tiger, Tiger
this is barely scratching the surface but these feel to me like good 'beginner' webcomics to get you started branching out from the webtoon format, but i'm sure followers will have other suggestions as well

Thinking of making a “FE lords competency” tier list, putting Sigurd in the “reckless and idiotic simp that never gets a single relevant W anywhere in his game and whose biggest contribution to the story is creating Seliph and leaving him to fix all his fuck-ups for him, along with jobbing to Arvis” and Edelgard in the “racist imperialist warmonger who, despite vastly outnumbering her enemies, having the element of surprise on her side and receiving help from the secret rulers of the world, is stuck on a stalemate because she's too depressed over the death of some random teacher (who she knew for a few months at most) to properly lead her army, ending with her either losing her war and dying due to her childish obsession with Byleth or winning, but only due to stumbling across Byleth again by accident and having the setting's equivalent of Jesus win her war for her” tiers, posting it to the main FE subreddit, and watching the fireworks.
Just for spiciness's sake, i might also hypeman CQ! Corrin by putting them at the top of the list with “strategic genius who conquers Hoshido by soloing all of it's royalty and it's main strategist, all of whom were in well-defended positions where they always had the upper hand against Corrin, doing most of the heavy lifting for Nohr despite receiving next to no support from it's military and relying on a tiny group to win grueling battles, who then proceeds to ALSO stomp the majority of the Nohrian army with their superior strength and intellect because they didn't like how it was treating Hoshidan citizens and P.O.Ws, and ends the game by killing a Takumi who was being given most of Anankos' power, along with beating back Valla's best soldiers despite being ambushed, outnumbered and fatigued from the back-to-back fighting they've done; only protag in FE with the distinction of beating three extremely well-trained countries, along with the vessel of a god, with next to no outside help, also being one of the smartest by default”.
Now that's going to lead to some fun reactions, i tell ya.
I wish you luck for the shitstorm that'll inevitably follow that kind of list lol

Be a literacy champion! -- Put a Book on Every Bed
Amy Dickinson
December, 2021
Dear Readers: Every year at Christmastime, I ask readers to put “A Book on Every Bed.” I do so in memory of my mother, Jane, whose weekly trips to our town’s library always yielded armloads of books. In our household, we went without some things that other families had, but we always had books in abundance.
The idea to put books on beds at Christmastime originally came from historian David McCullough, who recounted the Christmas mornings of his youth, when the very first thing he woke up to was a wrapped book at the base of his bed, left there by Santa.
The most important part is what happens next: Family members reading together.
Working with my local literacy partner Children’s Reading Connection (childrensreadingconnection.org)[CQ], this campaign has grown to include schools, libraries and booksellers, who have donated scores of books to families that might not have access to them.
This year, I am thrilled that author Jacqueline Woodson (jacquelinewoodson.com) agreed to share a very personal literacy story. Ms. Woodson is the winner of, well -- all of the awards for her genre-spanning work, including the prestigious Newbery and Caldecott, as well as a Macarthur “Genius” grant (2020). Her books, “Brown Girl Dreaming” and “The Day You Begin” are both very important to the children in my life.
She writes:
A Pile of Books
“The other night, a friend was describing her love for books. She said that love began when she was a child and her dad would bring a pile of books to read to her before she went to sleep.
As I listened, I imagined what would it have been like to have 'a pile of books' and someone who had the time at the end of the day to read them to me. Or better, to be able to read them to myself.
The books I had as a child were borrowed from the library or the worn books that had moved through many hands before landing, often in states of disrepair, in my own hands.
Books were both a necessity and a luxury in my childhood.
My mother wanted us to read constantly but didn't have the money to buy us 'piles of books'.
To have a brand-new book to open at night - it's crisp unbroken binding, the scent of its pages, the soft rush of air and excitement that comes with turning them - this is my dream for every child.
A pile of books begins with one. And like a child, it grows.”
Jacqueline Woodson
To support independent bookstores, which have had to pivot during the pandemic (like all of us), I’m presenting some recently published books in various categories, selected by some of my favorite booksellers.
From Jill Yoemans, owner of White Whale Bookstore in Pittsburgh, PA -- three recommendations for Early Readers:
“Mia Mayhem is a Superhero!,” by Kara West and Leeza Hernandez.
“I’m On It! (Elephant and Piggie Like Reading!),” by Andrea Tsurumi and Mo Willems.
“Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea” (a Narwhal and Jelly Book), by Ben Clanton.
From Lisa Swayze, General Manager of Buffalo Street Books in Ithaca, NY (Buffalostreetbooks.com):
“The Young Adult category has some of the most diverse, exciting, and revolutionary writing happening today. Buffalo Street Books' #1 pick this year is ‘This Poison Heart,’ by Kalynn Bayron. Once you're entangled in this heart-stopping story, you won't be able to put the book down.
“We also recommend: ‘The Firekeeper's Daughter,’ by Angeline Boulley, ‘We Are Not Broken,’ by George M. Johnson, and ‘We Are Inevitable,’ by Gayle Forman.”
From the bookselling staff of Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington DC, Adult non-fiction (politics-prose.com):[CQ]
“Empire of Pain,” by Patrick Radden Keefe: A riveting account of the Sackler pharmaceutical dynasty. Over decades they engaged in aggressive marketing of drugs, culminating in the promotion of oxycontin, which fostered the opioid crisis.
“Crying in H Mart,” by Michelle Zauner: In moving prose, the singer paints a vivid picture of the pain she endured growing up as the biracial daughter of a Korean mother and an American father.
“All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley's Sack, a Black Family Keepsake”
by Tiya Miles: Winner of the National Book Award, this historian pieces together the lost lives of a Black American family -- through the contents of a flour sack from the 1840s. The story of the sack carries "all the drama and pathos of ancient tapestries depicting the deeds of queens."
[You can share your own literacy stories on my Facebook page @AdickinsonDaily, or through Instagram: @booksonbeds.]

How do you do action (and thought) bubbles for comics? I've recently started trying to do a comic of my own (itssohardhowdoyoudoitomg) and I'm having trouble with non-standard speech bubbles.
Honestly except for some really big ones that weren’t going to fit right if I did what I usually do, I use the default photoshop ones fjdklsagdsf. they’re not. great. but I like them better than what I do by hand usually. (CQ is the opposite, the mad genius)
Thought bubbles though I actually do myself usually. I want them to puff in just a cERTAIN way (Also god comics are so hard I feel you omg)
These are both the same default photoshop exclamation type word bubble. They’re vectors so I messed around with the points and the tail that goes to the speaker obviously.
These are the default ones in photoshop
But if you google “speech bubbles” you can find lots of inspiration for your own!

I've had this idea of redesigning error characters for a while. I decided to start with Alphys. The design and color palette uses LKWayvern's as a base (Which is the best design I've seen, tbh). And I decided to make her Dr. Octopus, because why not? Surprisingly, it works on many levels.
Anyways, CQ said errors get cool powers, right? Well, her's is a brain boost. She has a genius-level intelect and can design and built any machine she desires, as long as she has the resources for it. Unlike most errors, Alphys has almost all of her memories intact. Therefore her personality is mostly the same. However, she puts a supervillain-like persona and doesn't show her more Alphys-ish traits often.
Her arms/tentacles work the same way Doc Ock's work. She's not evil-evil per say, but she likes acting like a bad guy. Probably has killed a couple people (although, most it would be by accident). I'd say she's kinda chaotic-neutral.
Undertale by Toby Fox
Errortale / Errors by Crayon Queen/LoverOfPiggies
Original Error Alphys design by LKWayvern
