Pub sign, Matt the Millers, Kilkenny, 2013.
Matt the Millers is deservedly well-known for its Irish music nights. Enjoy a hearty meal and listen to music, a fine night indeed.

Let us Leave Something to Testify that we have Lived
Originally from Cumberland, Sir John Ponsonby came to Ireland in the early 1650s and was appointed a commissioner for taking the depositions of Protestants concerning murders said to have been committed during the Confederate Wars: as a reward for his labours, he was granted a large parcel of forfeited lands at Kildalton, County Kilkenny. These had previously belonged to the Anglo-Norman D’Alton…

LACKEN MILL AND WELL ON THE RIVER NORE KILKENNY
When I photographed this in May 2016 I dd not know that it was Lacken Mill and did not pay much attention to it as I was focused on the well that is attached. At the time I thought that the well was a holy well.
ON A REALLY WET DAY IN MAY 2016 I used a Sony A7RII and a Zeiss Batis 24mm lens and it was lashing rain at the time – it rained for the duration of my visit. When I photographed this in May 2016 I dd not know that it was Lacken Mill and did not pay much attention to it as I was focused on the well that is attached. At the time I thought that the well was a holy well. The medieval origins of…

The pedimented mantel in the hall comes from Ardgillan in County Dublin and is made of Kilkenny marble. Combined with the arms of the Gorges family of County Meath, set within, it provides a focal point in the hall and a fine setting for the fire that burns continuously through the winter months.

Ok silly poll time because i want to know how many of us share Phil's absurd northern childhood (which may or may not be a false memory)

“THE CRANN OF THE FAE” Spread 1 : ✨introductions✨
MAIN TEXT: “HELLO ME! Or who I can only assume is me, considering that this is my journal. But if for some mysterious reason this highly valuable tome of knowledge has fallen into the hands of a stranger (and not the more likely scenario where it was snatched by the pixies that keep raiding my treehouse) then hello you! When I decided to write this new journal, I hadn't really considered that the knowledge it will contain might one day find its way into the hands of another. But if that be the case, I feel like some context, and maybe a proper introduction would be a helpful start.
My name is Aiva Abara, and this is my book of wonders. I grew up on a small farm in County Kilkenny, Ireland, and have always felt especially drawn to nature. Not surprisingly considering that most of my childhood was spent stumblin' about the forests surrounding my home and tending to the animals on the farm. For all I know I might’ve been under the Faeries spell for most of my life, my parents sometimes joking that I might be a changeling…although that was quite the astute observation on their part, I was most likely just what I like to call a “bug Kid": meaning the kind of kid that grew up covered in dirt, converting hollow stumps into makeshift cauldrons, and quite honestly wreaking havoc over my backyard. It's in these things that I find my comfort, endlessly fascinated by the ever changing and unpredictable nature of the forest and its inhabitants. I guess I'll never know if that unnamable force that's kept me wrapped around natures finger my whole life was due to me actually being a changeling, or maybe the work of Faeries whispering subliminal messages into my ears as a child. I am currently studying to become a nature conservationist, so ya know? Fair play Faeries…”
CURSIVE NOTE: “ it’s said that a mortal who carries a four leaf clover is able to see past the magic that renders the Fae invisible”

Not from the ask list but the characters in ur fics as Irish counties and why?
anon, this has absolutely sent me. i have genuinely never seen something more up my alley.
let's start with characters we can pull from the series for ireland's six superior counties, shall we...
antrim = oliver wood
a county full of lads who've never met a spivvy tracksuit they don't think is the height of fashion, and who have a vastly inflated sense of their success at sports.
armagh = tom riddle
armagh has a [deservedly] bloody reputation. he could settle down in the murder triangle. he'd like that.
down = draco malfoy
people who live in co. down really like thinking they're better than the rest of us just because it's easy for them to get to belfast [lads, how's that something to boast about?], so they have to be the series' whiniest flop.
fermanagh = rubeus hagrid
fermanagh is full of docile lads who build things, in my experience.
londonderry = ron weasley
canonically gorgeous, gorgeous girlies live in this fine county - by which i mean, of course, that i do. we deserve to be represented by the series' most gorgeous girly. and a ginger sweetheart with six siblings [so you know which side of the sectarian divide his parents are on...] would go down a storm with our mams.
tyrone = harry potter
my brother once had his nose broken in a pub in strabane, which doesn't sound particularly interesting until you realise that my brother is a priest. by which i mean - a county filled with people who are reckless, quick-tempered, and always ready to throw hands? it can only be represented by one man...
---
and then the rest...
carlow = quirinus quirrell
the most interesting thing there is a big rock.
cavan = percy weasley
everyone i've ever met from cavan has been really boring and really tight. so there's that.
clare = ginny weasley
because it's gorgeous, in a not like other girls way.
cork = albus dumbledore
look at this canon line and tell me dumbledore's not a cork man... "In fact, being — forgive me — rather cleverer than most men, my mistakes tend to be correspondingly huger.”
donegal = sybill trelawney
always away with the fairies up there... and always drunk too.
dublin = walburga black
everyone you've ever met who lives in dublin is genuinely shocked to discover that the rest of the world exists beyond the m50. it's not not giving "has never set foot in muggle london and would die before she did".
galway = arthur and molly weasley
galway is the home of the nation's sophisticated [and, apparently, sexually adventurous] culchies - which fits two people from clearly quite distinguished backgrounds who nonetheless live the way they do...
kerry = gilderoy lockhart
you will never see american tourists get scammed more glamorously than in kerry.
kildare = regulus black
considerably less interesting than - and devoid of identity in comparison to - its neighbour, dublin.
kilkenny = charlie weasley
all they do is have red hair and hurl.
laois = daphne greengrass
on account of her irrelevance.
leitrim = sally-ann perks
on account of her irrelevance.
limerick = bellatrix lestrange
limerick used to be known as "stab city". she'd fit right in.
longford = mungundus fletcher
gombeen men abound.
louth = myrtle warren
because they [by which i mean the two people i know who were born there...] are always fucking moaning.
mayo = remus lupin
perpetually mopey, unless they reckon they're great at something.
meath = cormac mclaggen
they wish they were as class as the lads in dublin.
monaghan = cuthbert binns
genuinely couldn't locate it on a map.
offaly = grawp
i mean, who fucking knows? the entire place is a bog.
roscommon = aberforth dumbledore
you can guess why...
sligo = fred and george weasley
wheeler dealers, the lot of them.
tipperary = fleur delacour
the home of gorgeous, gorgeous girlies with striking accents.
waterford = dobby
they love a good strike.
westmeath = hermione granger
not somewhere you'd expect you'd choose to live if you were a bit of a know-it-all. and yet.
wexford = neville longbottom
they love to bang on about the soil.
wicklow = marge dursley
she drives a range rover and looks down on anyone who farms, change my mind.

George Berkeley
George Berkeley (1685-1753) was an Anglo-Irish bishop and an empiricist and idealist philosopher. He infamously claimed that no matter exists outside of God and that things only exist outside of our minds and perceptions because God perceives them. This extreme position, although not total scepticism, has drawn much criticism from other philosophers ever since. Berkeley's work continues to be studied for his cutting insights into the nature of philosophical enquiry and his insistence that philosophers not dream up world views that contradict common sense.
Early Life
George Berkeley was born on 12 March 1685 in Kilcrin near Dysert Castle in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Berkeley studied at Trinity College in Dublin where he received a B.A. degree in 1704. Three years later, Berkeley was made a fellow of the university. He joined the priesthood, being ordained into the Anglican Church in 1709. After a spell in London, Berkeley gradually worked his way up the church hierarchy. He was appointed the Dean of Derry in 1724.
Berkeley visited North America in 1728, staying in Rhode Island for three years. He had hoped to found a Christian college on the island of Bermuda, but when the government withdrew promised funding, this never became a reality. He did give both money and books to Yale University. In 1731, Berkeley returned to London and continued his philosophical enquiries into what exactly constitutes knowledge.

Langrishe Go Down
The Langrishe family were originally from Hampshire, where they lived for several centuries until one of their number, Lieutenant Hercules Langrishe, arrived in Ireland c.1650. His father was the first of the family to be given that distinctive first name (his sibling was called Lucullus). The younger Hercules had one son, John, who married no less than five times, his second wife being Alice…

A WELL IN KILKENNY IN AUGUST 2018
This well is located on the Canal Walk on the bank of the River Nore and describing it is a bit complicated.
ALL THAT I KNOW IS THAT IT IS NOT CROW’S WELL The Nore River valley plays a pivotal role in the life of Kilkenny City, Bennettsbridge and much of the surrounding county. This well is located on the Canal Walk on the bank of the River Nore and describing it is a bit complicated. In August 2018 a local told me that this was a holy well dedicated to St Bridget (that could apply to most of the…

because you’re also Irish and an Osomatsu fan and idk if anyone else in the fandom would get this I want to share my Osomatsu-san if it was set in Ireland headcanons -
- Karamatsu: talks with a fake D4 accent, idolises Ross O’Carroll Kelly, wears chinos and brown brogues, drinks Bulmers
- Osomatsu: big Guinness fan naturally propping up the pub maybe like half doing a crossword and eating a pack of peanuts
- Choromatsu: wanted to get into TCD to live his Normal People lifestyle but ummm didn’t, claims he’s a fluent gaeilgeoir but only knows how to ask to the toilet in Irish
- Ichimatsu: hung out at central bank in the day
- Jyushimatsu: massively into hurling, wears a Kilkenny jersey a lot but isn’t from there
- Todomatsu: also wanted to get into TCD but didn’t basically lives at Brown Thomas
- Chibita: has a strong cork accent, works in a deli in centra/spar/mace
- Todoko: did Irish dancing as a kid but now is an aspiring influencer
hope you enjoy and sorry
OH THIS IS INCREDIBLE literally never in a million years expected to get an ask like this but i loveeeee it. you're so enlightened like this is genuinely magical i wouldn't change a thing.. love cork chibita love ichimatsu at the central bank GAA JYUSHIMATSU SPEAKS TO ME DEEEEEEEPLYYYY
not a concept i ever pondered myself but thinking about it so much now... influencer wannabe todoko doing hauls from dealz and home savers and mr price (cus she usually can't afford hauls from anywhere else) maybe getting to do one of those ads for swappie just once
in the same vein as choromatsu claiming to be a gaeilgeoir but not actually being able to speak it i imagine like. how karamatsu says random words in english to seem #worldly. he does that with irish instead or like deep cut irish slang/phrases that he would not have grown up with at all and gets them wrong half the time.
choromatsu is definitely in forbidden planet like weekly if not daily. goes in there and then brings whatever manga he bought to that clockwork door place up the road and hopes someone asks him what he's reading
struggling to decide who would be a bigger fiend for elfbars out of osomatsu and karamatsu so i'll just leave that thought there
i want one of them to be obsessed with mooju. i don't know which. all of them probably. especially osomatsu and jyushimatsu i think. they could get the strawberry and banana flavours to match their colours.. imagine.. i think ichimatsu likes the cookies and cream flavour but secretly
thinking about jyushimatsu so hard man like the rest probably stick to dublin/whatever suburb of it they live in just cus they seem the sort to not afford to live in the city centre LMAOOO not in a house with 6 adult kids..... but i know jyushimatsu does be getting on the bus/train every week and just disappearing off all over the country for funsies (he's the only one with an autism diagnosis so he's got that sweet sweet free travel card.) like you know how you get those dubliners that are fucking terrified to leave the county or even just the city because "scary culchies ewww boggers" or whatever. todomatsu is definitely one of those maybe choromatsu too (he pretends not to be scared but he is). osomatsu jokes but doesn't actually care. karamatsu pretends to be #cultured and not scared as well but the furthest he's been is like... skerries. nowhere further than the dart or dublin bus goes. ichimatsu is scared even just in dublin and thinks he's gonna get stabbed like all the time so it's all the same to him
BUT YEAH jyushimatsu goes literally everywhere cities towns parishes villages you name it. maybe brings ichimatsu along with him sometimes cus ichi does wanna go & i bet loves the countryside but is too scared by himself and needs someone to hide behind. jyushi goes to sooooo many GAA matches gaelic footballs ok but as you said MASSIVELY INTO HURLING!!!! one of those lads you see walking around with a hurl in hand nearly everywhere he goes.. got that o'neills mála scoile... i know you said he wears a kilkenny jersey a lot which is another INSPIRED idea but i feel in my heart that he has a galway one too just because he loves supermacs. they all love supermacs. i'm projecting now. also jyushi definitely tears up those greenways he'll do the royal canal one and then detour from mullingar to athlone and at the end still be like when are they gonna finish connecting this up to galway :/
sorry i didn't expect to write this long of a reply you've ignited something evil within me i'm going to be thinking about this forever. thank you SO much you have such a wonderful wonderful brain

For the Encanto OC event, though given I'm trying to keep up with Inktober, I can't guarantee I'll have something ready for every week.
You can find the info for the event here, hosted by @encanto-extended-edition.
My fan character for Encanto is also a fan character for Wolfwalkers. He's depicted here in the style of Wolfwalkers, but will also appear in a style more similar to Encanto. The construction lines won't appear in the latter style, and they'll be much more subtle in future depictions in Wolfwalkers style.
Name: Séamus Goodfellowe-MacTire
Age at introduction: 17
Birthplace: Kilkenny County, Ireland
Bio: Séamus is descended from Bill Goodfellowe and Moll MacTire. He is, as far as he's been able to discern, the last surviving wolfwalker. His family has struggled with their identity since the extinction of the Irish wolf in the late 18th century, and has taken to breeding Irish wolfhounds since then. But after Séamus was orphaned and his secret came out, he was run out of Ireland, bringing a few of his family's dogs with him. He took refuge in Spain for a while, laying low among a Calé community in Galicia, who were sympathetic to his plight. They taught him Spanish and some Galician, and he was able to pick up a few words and phrases in Caló, though they never taught him their language directly, as he wasn't a full member of their community. Eventually, a combination of persecution against the Calé and suspicion surrounding an uptick in wolf activity in the region resulted in the Calé community having to relocate, and they strongly encouraged Séamus to move on, for his own safety as much as theirs.
Séamus had to leave his Spanish wolf friends behind, which deeply hurt, as they were the first actual wolves he'd ever met. But his dogs remained by his side. He decided to try his luck in Mexico, where he knew there would be wolves, and where many Irish had chosen to emigrate during the last great Irish diaspora. He took a boat from Lisbon, Portugal across the Atlantic, but storms forced them to make port in the Caribbean. Through a series of events Séamus considered bad luck initially, he wound up in Cartagena--well south of his intended target. The conflict happening in Colombia forced him further and further inland, and Séamus and his dogs all felt as if they were being pulled somewhere deep into the Andes. Along the way, Séamus ended up picking up a pack of bush dogs, who absolutely delighted him and the wolfhounds. They were the closest things Séamus could find to wolves in that strange land.
Séamus spent most of his early days in Colombia camping in the forest. Every night, he and two of his hounds would scout the trail ahead. And every night, they felt inexplicably pulled in a particular direction. So every following day, Séamus would gather his pack and head in the direction of the mysterious force.
And that's how they ended up in the Encanto.
He met Antonio first, thanks to the bush dogs. Later that same day, he met Mirabel, by then 16. His first night in the Encanto, he accidentally bit Mirabel, transferring the magic of the wolfwalker to her. Thus Mirabel became the first Colombian wolfwalker, and the only other wolfwalker in the world that Séamus knew of.
