do you think morrigan ever just. does things like her father?
do you think she ever throws her head back and laughs whenever hawthorne makes a cheesy joke? does her left eye ever twitches whenever holliday makes her pose for another picture? who notices that she presses her lips into a thin line whenever she's trying to stop herself from yelling at someone? is it her father's fault she instinctively become haughty and rude whenever she's snubbed? did she learn how to dance not through hard work, as everybody thinks, but by simply having it engraved into half of her dna?

Recently I've been re-reading nevermoor for the bazillionth time and it's got me thinking a lot about morrigans relationship with her father, step mother and grandmother.
Corvus was married before ivy to morrigans mother who died when morrigan was born. Imagine being corvus and having the person you're in love with get taken away from you only to be left with this child, who looks exactly like her mother. Every time he looked at morrigan he saw his dead love's face. A constant reminder that she was gone forever.
It helped that she was cursed, the anger and resentment built easier. Morrigan became something to blame for his wife's death for sorrow is all she would ever bring to him. He counted down the days until her death for that is when he would finally be free from the memories of his first love and properly able to move on with his new life with ivy.
Perhaps that is why ivy despised morrigan so much. She was a constant reminder to corvus about his first wife and a reminder to ivy that he had loved before her. Morrigan was the anchor attached to corvus' ankle, tethering him in place, unable to move towards ivy and unable to forget his old life.
It is said in nevermoor that morrigans mother's portrait was all the way down at the end of the hall. This shows us that ornella must not have liked morrigans mother that much if at all. Maybe that is why ornella liked morrigan. She didn't have an emotional connection to her mother. Morrigan "causing" her death wasn't a big deal to ornella. Of course, she wasn't all that kind to morrigan growing up but when the opportunity for morrigan to get out of the Republic and have a proper life not plagued by an impending doom somewhere else arose, she jumped right on it and got morrigan to safety.
The actions of Ornella, Corvus and Ivy crow will not and should not be forgotten or forgiven. They are not good people however the backstory into why they hated morrigan so much deserves to be explored and dissected in future books.
That was just my interpretation though, feel free to have your own.

Corvus: I am at a loss for words!
Morrigan, voice over: Despite being lost for words, my father (named corvus crow that literally is like saying crow crow) yelled at me for the next 45 minutes.

I was being lazy and procrastinated coloring this but uhhhh it's here!😭 Morrigan's family portrait (from the Nevermoor book series!) Poor girl. My bestie's words: "She has Wednesday addams vibes. She looks so depressed."
Corvus's design is not perfectly how he looks like in my head but other than that I'm pretty happy!
I was looking forward to drawing Ivy because I have such a clear vision of her in my head. :D
I might be misinterpreting but I've always kinda assumed Nevermoor has bit of 20's aesthetic for some reason?
And I'm very happy with how I drew Mog's grandma. All in all i had fun designing Mog's relatives!
[ID: coloured pen drawing of the Crow family. Ornella (left) is wearing a purple dress and black opera gloves. Corvus (back) is wearing a black top hat, cravat and suit. Morrigan (front) is wearing a black skirt and cardigan (with red accents) and a red neckerchief. Ivy (right) is smiling. she has a tan, is wearing a blue sundress with a pashmima, and has a pink bag with matching shoes. the other three photos are close ups on the picture. End ID]

Heeelloooo and welcome to Round One of: WHICH OF THE NEVERMOOR CHARACTERS ARE ABSOLUTELY FUCKED?
—————————
Corvus Crow: I could see it going either way, but I hope he dies :)
Fenestra: She could live, but if she dies it’s definitely going to be in a heroic sacrifice - probably in one of the last books.
Elder Quinn: She isn’t surviving this series. Yes, I know she’s a tough cookie, but I just can’t see her living until the end. She’ll probably get a pretty cool death tho.
Martha: Fucked. Absolutely fucked.

Aaand that’s it for Round One of: WHICH OF THE NEVERMOOR CHARACTERS ARE ABSOLUTELY FUCKED?

I wanted to make a Crow family tree for an ASL project and I thought I'd post it because I haven't posted art in forever lol Also fun fact: Ivy and her sons have no canon eye color! which was only slightly infuriating

Rereading the book and this chapter was very funny, haha
IMAGE ID: Ivy Crow is standing in the middle of the drawing smiling at someone off camera, she has a speech bubble reading: “Corvus and I are having a baby!”. Corvus is sitting down beside at the dining table, to the left of where Ivy is standing. He is grimacing. Behind him is an fireplace and 2 paintings. The paintings are of no one in particular, probably of other members of the Crow Family.

no matter how much corvus attemptes to hide the shame of his daughter, morrigan is immortalized in great wolfrace.
black was the most purchased colour for months after her death, and it became the fashion to grow out your hair. pale skin and dark eyes was coveted amongst young girls. they all craved that deathly, eerie glow morrigan had. numerous paintings depicting her life hang in galleries in her home city, scenes of her weeping at her mothers gave, of her giving to the poor, of her visiting the sick. the street her house lives on is renamed after her. she is becomes a national treasure.
are they compensating for the neglect she suffered from at their hands? do they think her blood is stained on them? people grow uncomfortable when the gravity of their sins finally weigh down on them. they say that regret is stronger then gratitude, and it seems kindness is just as weak.

A few Nevermoor headcanons:
- Jupiter has very expressive eyes
- Morrigan's mom's name was Odelle (hence Morrigan's middle name)
- Corvus and Ivy aren't really in love; he married her primarily to show off/for his ego, and she married him primarily for wealth/status.
- Flip flops are an unpardonable fashion crime in Jupiter's opinion
- Nancy Dawson is asexual
That's all for now.
