Swimmers how well do you roll? This could be the most fundamental movement assessment affecting your higher level activities. Symmetrical sequencing and stability through your core to your extremities could be limiting your rotation and power. - Lie on your back, arms overhead - Slowly reach with one arm and your head across your body - Reach until you roll over, without moving your legs - From your stomach reach back and across your body with your arm and your head - Reach until you roll over without using your legs Compare each arm front to back, back to front for asymmetries. This is the test and the exercise. Feel like your always foam rolling, stretching, mobilizing the same spots that just seem to stay tight? Tightness and range of motion deficits are not always a stretching, rolling, mobility solution. Often the area that feels tight is not the culprit but a protective symptom of something above or below it. Stretching, rolling, mobilizing these spots can at best give you short term relief, and at worst dispose instability risks, leaving you with segments that may be hyper mobile and others that are still locked. It’s helpful to assess against how joints and the surrounding tissue should move relative to age, gender, activities, then arrive on mobility or stability solutions best for the person.
