The moans of the wounded and the tired men can almost be ignored through the thick fabric of the tent. The heavy spices hang in the air, burning flagrantly in the smoldering copper pots you keep lit. Wanting to mask the odor of death and blood. To keep this space free of the oppression outside the tent flaps.
Marcus groans, his chest heaving and making the water ripple as he throws his head back. “More.” He grunts, his voice raspy from shouting orders during the bloodiest and most hard fought day of this campaign so far.
Sitting in hip deep water, the blood had been washed away, the dirt and grime of battle swim in the wooden tub outside the tent. This bath is for pleasure. This moment is for him.
His cock slaps against the small pouch of his belly as you let him go, reaching for the vial of warmed, scented oil to add more to your hands. After so many months in his service, you know what he wants.
Marcus Acacius is a man who holds himself tightly bound by the code he has lived by. That had been instilled in him by someone who was proclaimed to be the greatest of all the Roman generals. A man who he unfortunately could not live up to his memory, at least in his own eyes.
Your hands are slicked together, sliding easily when you lean forward to wrap your hands around the thick length of his cock and pull another deep groan from him.
He looks gorgeous, wet curls hanging slightly as his head tilts back, throat exposed and vulnerable. Eyes closed as a murmured curse passes through his lips. His cock twitching when you squeeze him gently, feeling the vein pulse to the heavy beating of his heart.
The skin rolls easily. Silky velvet draped over steel, a wonderful contradiction of feelings. Something so hard shouldn’t be so soft, and something so soft shouldn’t burn so hot it feels like Vesuvius in your grip.
The head of his cock is so raw, leaking the fluids that you smear over it with your thumb, making him hiss and the water slosh as his hips jerk up. His skin looks bronzed in the soft light from the candles and you squeeze him again.
“Shit!” You bite your lip when he curses, watching his face and his cock with equal fascination, the emotions playing over his features are riotous and changing from one moment to the next as you stroke his cock. As you give him what pleasure he is willing to take from you.
Up and down, your wrist twists as you pump him, feeling the need building in his body. At the same time other muscles start to relax. His breath catching and becoming short, heavier.
“Relax dominus.” You coo softly, making his eyes fly open and he reaches down to grab your wrist, stilling your hand.
“Marcus.” He pants, dark eyes boring into yours with an intensity that would have you shrinking back if he wasn’t holding you. “Do not call me that. Use my name.”
“Marcus.” You whisper his name quietly, as if you are afraid someone outside may hear it and punish you. A foolish fear, since Marcus would be the one to find offense if any was to be had, but one that is very hard to overcome.
He relaxes his grip on your wrist and slowly starts helping you pump his length again before letting go. Water drips off his hand and arm as he pulls it back to drape along the edge of the tub and leans back again. Your own name falls from his lips quietly, poised in praise and approval as his eyes slide closer again. “Good girl.”
The wet sounds of his cock in your hand draw your attention back down to his length. Making you wonder how he would feel inside you. How he would taste. Things that he did not allow to happen, and he had only reluctantly let you touch him like this.
His cock is thick and a good length, enough that you cannot cover all of it when your fingers are around it. The long strokes of your hand have to be quick, the pace steady to build him back to where he had been before you had erred.
On your knees beside the tub, you wish to crawl in there with him, to mount him. Instead of letting your hand glide up and down his cock, you want the walls of your cunt clenched tight around him. Still you continue to caress his throbbing cock, sliding your other hand down so you can cradle the soft fullness of the balls that are resting below his length.
His grunts and groans are growing louder, his hips starting to roll towards your hand. The edge of his jaw tightening as he hisses. You don’t miss the way his fingers curl around the edge of the tub, trying to hold onto his composure. He doesn’t like to give up control and that’s exactly what he is doing with every flick of your wrist and downward stroke as you burn the fires in his belly.
He’s close. You can feel it in the way that his hips tilt, his stomach ripples as it tightens and releases. As if he is trying to stave off his pleasure. To drag it out and make it even sweeter while you pump his cock again and again. His groan breaks, your name on his lips right before his cock twitches violently in your grip.
Hot spurts of his seed shoot out of the tip, painting his chest while his panting breaths makes his chest heave. Your hand is coated, the thick, creamy seed sliding down into your fingers as you work him through it. Wanting him to work every drop of his pleasure out of his cock until he is spent.
His cock starts to soften in your hand, his hips dropping back to the bottom of the tub and he exhales in pure relief as he lets the pleasure rush through his system. His head is not dropped down to his chest for a long moment until he lifts it, looking into your eyes with a guilty sense of gratitude that you wish you could soothe away with soft kisses and words. You don’t though, slowly releasing his cock and pushing your hand under the water to wash his seed off your skin so you can pick up the soft cloth to wipe it from his chest.
Your job is to serve the general and for now, he only requires you to give him pleasure with your hand.

Game Over (Merridy)
Tumblr media
Alternative title: Merry Winter's Heart! :)
Remember that time this one ask game made me write the Worst Possible Ending™ for Damien and Cedric? Well, for over a year, I wanted to get to the next one in line, but I wasn't in the right mood for it—until this year's xmas kicked my ass, so here we go.
This one's after Game Over (Damien) and Game Over (Cedric).
Warnings: Major character death, specifically frozen to death with a slightly suicidal flavor, lots and lots of sadness, a little bit of drunken violence
Tumblr media
“That’s for table five.” The cook pushed a bunch of filled plates and bowls into Merridy’s hands. “Hurry, girl.”
Merridy hurried. The air in the inn was hot and stuffy, fires blazing against the cold of a dark winter afternoon. As she made her way to table five, she tried her best to ignore the mouth-watering smell of potatoes, roast, and freshly baked bread. Whatever was left in the kitchen pots after a long day usually contained nothing but bones and soggy, overcooked vegetables, and even those she was rarely allowed to take.
With a smile that was every bit as fake as it was bright, she put the plates and bowls down in front of the two patrons, getting nothing in return than a moody grunt and a lecherous gaze. The muddy weather of the past few days left people in a bad mood, which was directly reflected in the tips—or lack thereof—she got.
No matter how long she already worked at this inn, her feet still ached an hour into her shift, and the smell of spilled beer and hot grease still made her queasy. She hurried back and forth, delivering beer, roast, and stews and retrieving empty mugs, bowls, and plates.
“Your—”
Looking up to meet the patron’s gaze, her smile froze on her lips. Those striking purple eyes. That copper gleaming hair. The carefully groomed stubble of a beard adorning too familiar features. Pain struck her chest with such an intensity, it took her breath away.
“What the fuck.”
Merridy flinched. Beer soaked the front of her pants and stained his shirt, and the mug she had dropped clattered to the ground, splattering the last of its contents onto her threadbare shoes.
“I’m sorry I’m sorry.”
“Whatever. Get me a rag or something,” the man barked, and Merridy almost fell over her feet in her hurry to comply.
She ran into the kitchen, ignoring her called name as she snatched two rags off a hook. Dodging patrons and maids alike, she was back in record time, handing the man one of the rags to dry himself while she fell to her knees and set to work cleaning up the mess she had made.
If only she could stop herself from looking up over and over again. If only her hands would stop trembling, and her heart would stop beating so quickly, and her eyes would stop filling with tears. If only he didn’t look so much like him.
“What are you staring at me like that, huh?”
The man sounded mostly irritated, not truly angry. Merridy swallowed. She shouldn’t she shouldn’t she shouldnt—
“I’m sorry. It’s. You. You look like him,” she whispered.
Gods, why had she said that? She was here to serve patrons, not to pour out her heart. And why, for one impossibly long moment, did a part of her hope to be recognized, to find him in those purple eyes?
The man’s gaze hardened. He let the rag sink.
“Who?” he demanded.
Merridy quickly shook her head. “Someone I once knew. Doesn’t matter.” She scrubbed at the sticky floor, avoiding the gaze that burned into the back of her head. “I miss him, is all.”
“He’s dead?” the man asked. His voice sounded strangely pressed.
With a clipped nod, she wrung out the rag into the mug, adding to the slosh inside. Most of the beer had long soaked into the floorboards, but she had wiped up the rest as best as she could. Now the rag was dirty, and she still had to clean the table. She should have done it the other way around, but she wasn’t exactly thinking clearly.
“What was his name?”
Ignoring the question, Merridy pulled herself to her feet and reached for the rag the man had put on the table in front of him, apparently done with drying himself. He was wearing all black, so whatever stains her clumsiness had left were at least invisible.
His hand shot out, and his fingers closed around her wrist.
“His name?” he asked.
Why did he care? “Let go of me.” Merridy leaned back to put her meager weight against his grip. “Let—”
“What was his fucking name?” the man shouted.
“Damien!” she yelled back. “His name was Damien.”
When he let go of her, she threw the rag on the table and snatched her arm back. The skin around her wrist was red and would probably bruise. What the fuck was wrong with that guy?
“Liar,” he hissed. He stood up, looming over her as she shrank back. “You’re a fucking liar. Damien isn’t dead.”
“Why would I lie?” Tears welled in Merridy’s eyes. How did he dare remind her of him? How did he dare bring up all this pain and then doubt her words? “I held him while he died. While he— while he.”
She hiccuped and sobbed, her voice breaking.
“How?” the man asked, his voice like ice.
“Infection,” Merridy whispered without thinking about it, cowering under his tone. “His arm. It was rotting away. The healers couldn’t save him.”
“What the fuck, man?” someone behind her exclaimed. “We’re trying to eat here.”
“Then eat and shut the fuck up,” the man that wasn’t Damien yelled past her. “And you—” While she tried to shuffle away, a hand crashed down on her shoulder, and the man spun her around, hissing, “I’m not done talking to you.”
He was too close. She could smell it on his breath that this wouldn’t have been his first beer—probably not his second or third, either. Panic crept into her throat, turning her voice shrill and squeaky.
“Leave me alone!”
The moment she slapped his hand aside, he shoved her, hard. She stumbled backwards, into a table that was laden with food and drinks. One of the patrons jumped up, leaving his empty chair for her to fall over. As she crashed to the ground, plates and mugs clattered around her, spilling their contents.
She scrambled to her feet, dodging concerned gazes and helping hands. She had to get out. Too much attention, too many people yelling at each other, too much food sticking to her clothes and alcohol lingering in her nose.
Before she could duck into the kitchen, an arm blocked her way. Steel-gray eyes under bushy eyebrows gave her a stern look, and already thin lips vanished almost completely with how tightly they were pressed together.
Her boss signaled her to follow him, and Merridy’s heart sank. This was it, then. It didn’t matter who had started it, or that the patron had lost his fucking mind at the mention of a mere name. She wanted to cry, and it took all her willpower not to. For the past few months, she had slept in a corner of the tavern’s storeroom, unable to earn enough money to afford the ludicrously high rent in this city. Losing this job meant losing the roof over her head, too.
As Merridy stepped out of the inn, the first snowflakes glittered in the light of the street lamps. The air was freezing to match. Just her luck. She clutched her bundle to her chest and started to walk, picking directions at random. While the snow settled on her hair, her tears left freezing trails on her cheeks.
A few days until Winter’s Heart, and once again, she had nowhere to go. Her family was long gone, as was every single friend she had made on the way. Yvan killed by the guards. Cedric and Laurent, hanged minutes apart. Damien’s body giving in after weeks of ceaseless struggle against the infection. Death trailed behind her like a shadow, taking those she loved most while she always managed to escape.
Her toes had long gone numb inside her too-thin shoes by the time she reached Cedric’s house. The garden was overgrown, the windows dark; those that had been broken during the raid boarded up. After a couple of terrifying interrogations, she had avoided this place like the plague, but it seemed like no progress had been made in determining the house’s fate.
She tiptoed towards the front door and paused next to the wind chimes. At night, the colors of the glass shards were muted and barely distinguishable, but her memory filled the gaps. Her fingertips brushed over the glass, then she stretched and lifted the chimes off the hook. She had no more keepsakes of her friends, nothing that had survived her need to buy food, and the many times she had been thrown out of one place or another.
Tonight, she wanted something to hold onto.
For a moment, she considered picking the lock and hiding inside, but she knew it wouldn’t be the same place she had once known. The remnants of a fight—broken furniture and long-dried blood stains—would only ruin the memories she kept locked away in a small corner of her heart. Memories of warmth and food and laughter, of the only real home she had ever had in this city.
Clutching the wind chimes to her chest with her bundle, she ducked back into the shadows between the scattered street lamps. Left and right and right and left, she walked until her eyes kept sliding shut, until her feet kept slipping on the snow, until her lungs burned and every muscle in her body screamed.
When she looked around, she found herself in front of a dead end, the pavement broken and littered with discarded trash. She didn’t know where she was, and it didn’t matter, because she had nowhere to go. This place was as good as any.
She knew that once she sat down, she wouldn’t ever get up again, but deep inside, she didn’t have the strength to care anymore. Next to a broken nightstand, she sat on a splintered piece of wood to keep away from the cold ground, wrapping a half rotten piece of fabric that might once have been a rug around her legs.
What a miserable place to spend the last hours of her life in. She thought of Yvan’s cookies and Cedric’s coins in front of a fireplace, the warmth of which was no more than a fleeting memory. She thought of Laurent’s candies, all the different ones he had brought her while courting Aurelia, until he had finally come clear about his little lies and resumed buying the cherry ones.
Aurelia.
After the arrests, she cut all contact and played the card of the poor, innocent, blind woman who had had no idea what her partner had been up to behind her back. Merridy couldn’t blame her. She was sure Laurent would have wanted nothing more than for Aurelia to be safe. Merridy hoped she was.
More and more memories flooded back, breaking down the last of the barriers she had put up around her heart. She cried, and she remembered, and she cried some more, rubbing numb fingertips across the polished glass shards as she thought of all the times she had arrived at Cedric’s house. Looking for a kind word. For help. For warmth. For friendship.
For someone to put her back together after Damien’s death.
She didn’t know why his death hurt her most of all. She had barely known him. Half of the few weeks they had spent together, he had been confined to his bed and asleep more than he had been awake. But something about him had tugged on her heart the moment she had laid eyes on him. The pain in his gaze. His words, telling her how bad a person he was, while every single action had proved otherwise. A bone-deep loneliness she had recognized herself in.
She wondered who that man had been. Damien’s brother, perhaps, or a cousin. He was definitely too young to be his father and too old to be his son. Had he ever looked for Damien? Had he ever lay awake at night, wondering where Damien was? Had he ever tried to find him? Had he known that Damien had been in prison, that he had escaped?
Well, now he knew. Not everything. Not the state Damien had been in, nor that it was Merridy who had helped him escape. It didn’t matter. Whoever this man was, wherever Damien’s family was, no one had been there for him. They had let him rot in his cell until it had been almost—until it had been too late.
Despite everything she had tried, it had been too late. And she cried for him, for the second chance he had never gotten, and those eyes that had been so full of pain, and those hands that had clung to her like she had been his lifeline. And she cried for the body she had been forced to leave behind, cold and stiff and helpless, to be discarded like society had discarded him when he had still been alive. And she cried for herself, because a part of her had died with him that day. The part that had still believed that perhaps, sometimes, life could be fair. That perhaps it was never too late to hope.
She had hoped. Every day, she had hoped, until another gaze had broken, until another’s eyes had become dull and lifeless, until she was all alone again. There was no more hope left in her heart.
She dug through her bundle as if she didn’t know every single object in it, all of them useless except for the half-empty box of matches. They weren’t going to save her. She had no fireplace, no candle, nothing to keep herself warm. So often, she had owed her life to the kindness of strangers, but there would be no kind stranger tonight; not at this hour, not in this weather, not in this part of town.
Snow piled on the discarded rug around her legs. It did nothing to ward off the creeping cold. As more and more of her body became numb, her tears dried up and her thoughts slowed down. With shaking fingers that kept dropping it, she struck the first match against the box until it sparked to life.
She huddled against the wall at her back and lifted the shards of the wind chime in front of the flame one by one, soaking up the colors. Red. Orange. Yellow. Green. Cyan. Blue. She stopped at the purple one, turning it this way and that.
Too quickly, the fire burned out. She lit another match, holding it behind the purple shard. The shade didn’t quite match, but it was close enough. She stared at the shard until that match died as well, thinking of Damien’s sad eyes, and the man’s angry ones. If only he hadn’t flipped out like that. She would have loved to talk to someone who had known Damien.
As she lit match after match, she thought about what her parents had told her when her grandfather had died. If she was honest, she didn’t believe there was anything at all beyond the aether. Even if there was, it would be nothing like this world. Like a body turning back into soil, whatever remained of her mind might have no resemblance to who she had been in life. If something remained. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so terrible if it didn’t.
When the last match went out, she wasn’t trembling anymore. Her fingers were so stiff, she had trouble arranging the shards of the wind chimes on her lap, and each freezing breath burned in her throat and lungs. She tucked her nose against her shoulder and looked at the treacherous beauty stretching out in front of her. The snow blanketed the ground, hiding the dirt and the trash. Soon, it would hide her as well.
Her eyelids kept dropping. She was so tired. If she was honest, she had been tired for so long. It wasn’t easy to sleep when death kept following her into her dreams and she kept waking up trembling with fear.
She blinked her eyes open. Everything was blurry. Unreal. Even the cold was far away. She found that she was no longer afraid. Just tired and sad. Wishing it could have ended any other way.
As she closed her eyes one last time, the wind chimes slipped off her lap. She never felt it, just like she never felt it as her heart beat slower and slower and finally stopped. In the glittering light of uncaring stars, snow silently covered her body until she became one with the street she had, in the end, never been able to escape.

What Do You Know About Love - (6/?)
Tumblr media
Summary: When Elain discovers a centuries old love letter, written in secret and never sent, she decides that she's going to be the one to finally deliver it. Even if finding its intended recipient means going on a mission with Lucien Vanserra. Set post ACoSF.
A contribution to @elucienweekofficial Day 6: Fearless
Chapter 6 - Leaning Against the Sun
Read on AO3 ・Previous Chapter
-
“Do you even know how to embroider?”
It was the first question Lucien asked once they were alone. He'd propped himself against one of the large white-stone columns in the central room of their connecting suites. An upward spiral was carved into the surface at his back, as if a great giant had once taken hold of it on either end and twisted.
He was surveying Elain as she wandered the spacious suite they’d be sharing for the indefinite future.
“Of course I do,” she said, roaming curiously toward the ivory fountain sprouting from a small water basin in the center of the room. It featured an eagle with its wings splayed to their full length, cawing to the sky. Water spouted from its beak, forming a glistening arch that streamed back into the basin below. The eagle gripped two copper cups in its talons, presumably for drinking.
“So she can read and embroider,” Lucien drawled. “A woman of many talents.”
“I can throw, too,” she said, lifting one of the cups from the stone eagle’s talons. “It would serve you well to keep that in mind.”
“Can and will hold vastly different meanings, Elain. Don’t make threats you don’t intend to keep.”
She surveyed the cup in her hand and briefly considered lobbing it towards his head. Those sorts of violent thoughts didn’t occupy her mind often, but— “You sound as if you want me to.”
“I would find it very amusing,” he admitted.
Then she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. With a small huff, Elain pivoted her back to him, a clear statement that he was being ignored as she placed her cup beneath the eagle’s spouting beak. The metal rang pleasantly through the chamber as it began filling with water.
“I wouldn’t drink that,” Lucien cautioned, pushing off the column. She raised her head just enough to watch him dodge two heavy clay pots of lotus flowers in her periphery. Their scent wended through his as he passed, carrying over a sweet and masculine combination that made her mouth go a bit dry.
“Why?” Elain raised the cup higher for inspection.
She feared he would come up beside her, yet was strangely disappointed when he deposited himself atop one of the four chaise lounges around the fountain, pushing aside a pair of brightly dyed pillows to join the hundreds of others scattered across the floor.
“They do things differently in the Day Court,” Lucien said, plucking a berry from one of the small, circular tables laden with fruit. Rather than eat it, he burst it between his thumb and forefinger, spreading berry juice over his hands. “Here, their daily life is much more… communal. Meals, baths, prayer, grooming, it's all done in shared company. Whereas these private rooms are typically only used for two things.” He offered her a lazy grin. “Fucking or sleeping.”
Elain flinched. The way he said that word, the way it rolled off his tongue. She was thankful the room was dark, so he couldn’t see the bumps shivering down her flesh. The sun had only just started its descent, but its light was held back by the thick drapes pulled firmly shut across each archway leading out of the center room.
Through the closed archway in the middle, she could see a thin seam of sunshine, threatening to flood the chamber if she pulled back the red cloth. It must have led outside, or at least to a brighter room.
No doors, she’d noted while the attendant had led them through the palace. No locks. Only drapes.
“You’re crude,” she said.
Lucien shrugged. “It’s the truth. You could choose not to believe me, of course, but you should know that any food or drink in this room is intended to further those two purposes.” He grabbed a fig off the table and held it towards her, his fingers still dripping in juice. “Would you like to discover which?”
The only light radiated from the small domed fire pits hanging by golden chains in each corner. It was warm and sensual in what she imagined consistent with all things in the Day Court. And it did no service to her now, gilding his silhouette so that he was glowing like some ancient Sun God, descending from the heavens to tempt her into wickedness.
She met his eyes, ignoring his offering. “What happens if I drink the water?”
“It’s not water,” he crooned.
“What happens if I drink it?”
He arched a single red brow. “Are you brave enough to find out?”
“You’re insufferable,” she complained.
“You’re stalling.”
Elain stared at the bronze mug in her hand. “They used to warn us that if you eat or drink anything in Faerie, you’d be trapped there forever.”
If you drink Faerie wine, you’ll be stuck for all of time.
It was too late for her now, Elain supposed.
Lucien’s eyes glittered with humor. “When Feyre first came here, she believed I couldn’t speak an Untruth.”
“A laughable concept, indeed.”
“Lady,” he chided, placing a hand on his chest in mock offence. “I always speak nothing but plain truth.”
Elain waved the mug pointedly between them. “And yet, you still won’t tell me what it will do.”
He looked at the mug in her hands and laughed under his breath. “It will feel like swallowing starlight. You’ll see and taste the world in colour and song. And then you’ll be so drunk I’ll probably need to fish you out of the reflection pool like a soaked kitten.”
“It’s alcohol, then,” she said, sniffing it. At most, it smelled like rosewater. Or a warm breeze sweeping through a summer garden.
“Something like it.”
“And the fig?” She reached for it, but Lucien snatched it away.
“This…” A flush crawled up the column of his throat. He shook his head, setting it back on the round table. “I really wouldn’t recommend eating. The Day Court loves their aphrodisiacs.”
Oh. Elain studied the pile of fruit with renewed horror, noting the sheer amount they’d been supplied. Helion didn’t know she’d be coming, but he had known Lucien would be. A wretched part of her couldn’t help wondering if the supply of aphrodisiac was customary for every room, or if there was some precedent of Lucien’s past visits to the Court.
He knew what they were used for, afterall.
“You barely got any sleep last night,” he said. The humor and teasing had dropped away, and now he was looking at her with something close enough to concern that her chest tightened. “Maybe it would be best to save the ambrosia for another time?”
Ambrosia. Elain sniffed again. Did it come from flowers, as its rosy scent suggested? There wasn’t anything like that she knew of in the Night Court. Not that she imbibed very much outside of the polite glass of wine. Certainly not like Feyre’s Inner Circle.
Lucien was right in that she was tired. The weight of her body was setting in, her limbs heavy in odd places and practically begging for the reprieve of sleep. But she thought it sounded pathetic to finally leave the Night Court and spend her first night in bed before dinner.
She was here to find the letter’s recipient, but also because she wanted to push herself out of the comfort of familiarity she so often clung to. Nesta and Feyre so easily flung themselves into this new world, with all of its strange rules and customs. And Elain knew she was doing herself a disservice by hanging on to the human world as much as she was.
In the Night Court, they humored her human inclinations, but she expected it would be much more difficult to ignore the Fae world here. Where the food was spelled with magic and the fountains flowed with ambrosia and her mate would sleep on the other side of a piece of cloth.
Elain wanted to be brave about it all, the way her sisters were.
“Cauldron boil me,” Lucien said, his eyes widening as she pressed the copper rim to her lips and tilted her head back. “Enough,” he hissed, lunging forward to stop her from drinking it all, but it was too late.
The cup was empty.
She giggled as she showed it to him, then dropped it to the floor with a clatter.
Lucien groaned. “Elain. A sip of that would have been enough to send you on your ass.”
He wasn’t wrong about the starlight. Her veins were filling up with it, bursting with the first rays of the sun. She tipped her head back and released a long breath, feeling her lungs empty. And when she breathed in, it was the scent of summer skies and woodsmoke that filled her chest.
Lucien watched her warily from where he’d sat up on the chaise lounge, blinking with eyes that smouldered like pools of molten copper and gold. His hair glistened in the low-faelight, coils of hot metal, and below his skin—she’d never seen it before, but she swore that light was shining beneath his cheeks.
He was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen.
The wariness in his expression cracked, spreading into a smugness she pretended to loath, though her heart fluttered at the sight.
“Thank you,” he said.
Oh gods. Had she said that aloud?
“Maybe I should let you drink more often.”
Elain covered her burning cheeks beneath her palms, her balance swaying. “I didn’t know it would set in this quickly.”
“You drank an entire mug.”
He stood up, reaching like he intended to steady her, but Elain clambered back—and nearly collapsed over a marble bench in her attempt to escape him. She fell against it with a hardened oomph, the breath rushing out of her all at once.
Lucien’s hands settled on her shoulders before she had the chance to tumble backwards. “Easy,” he said. “Why don’t I take you to bed?”
“While I’m uninhibited?” She said, with a soft hiccup. “That’s not very polite of you, Lucien.”
“Is that to say you’d find the idea tempting?” He smirked. “How curious, the way your true thoughts come out now.”
He was teasing her again and she couldn’t even remember why she was supposed to be bothered by it. His face was so close to hers, hovering just above while his warmth bled into her shoulders. And she remembered what it felt like to kiss him, the way his tongue felt sweeping into her mouth, how she'd memorized the taste.
It would be so easy to do that again, she thought. Just tip her head and her lips would be against his and it would feel so good.
“You kissed me on the Solstice,” she said, staring at his lips. They were a soft burgundy color, the bottom more full than the top—but only slightly. She knew if she sunk her teeth into them, he would make the most delicious groan.
Lucien’s eyes darkened. “I did.”
“And then you left.”
He searched her face. “I told you I would.”
“You never came back.”
“No,” he said, voice solemn. “But you never called on me.”
“I wrote a letter,” she said, finally dragging her eyes away from his sinful mouth. To meet his. “But I never found the courage to send it.”
Slowly, hesitantly, Lucien swiped one of his thumbs higher, arching it over her shoulder to the start of her collarbone. Then back. Elain’s eyes fluttered shut, relishing in the trail of exploding heat he left in his wake.
“Is that why you want to deliver this letter?” He asked thoughtfully.
Elain opened her eyes, unsurprised to find he was staring at her. “I have a hundred letters I’ve never sent. To you, to Graysen, to old friends from the human realm. I often wonder how different my life would be if I’d had the courage to send them.”
“Sometimes it’s better not to.” That far-off look in his eye said he was recalling a memory, and the wince that followed suggested it was not a pleasant one. “Letters written in haste can cause detriment. Your life may have been different if you’d sent them, but not happier. Not always.”
The sad, self-wallowing letters she’d penned to Graysen would certainly have been humiliating if they’d ever left her writing desk. But was he referring to the letter she’d written to him? Did he think it would have been a mistake to call on him instead of Azriel? She’d ended up calling on neither, in the end.
“Do you think it’s possible?” She asked. “To find the male that the letter was written to?”
Lucien considered the question for a moment, continuing to stroke his thumb at her shoulder as he did. If he kept it up, Elain was certain she’d fall right to sleep.
“I think that sometimes things are better left buried in the past,” he said, finally, his voice soft. “Have you considered that he might have been the one to hide the letter, in the end? You might be delivering a keepsake of his heart’s biggest wound.”
Elain hadn’t considered that. But she shook her head. “It’s not possible.”
“How do you know?”
The iron ring she kept tucked in the drawer of her nightstand was how she knew.
“If he loved her, he would have kept the letter safe. And I think they did love each other.”
“I suppose so,” he said, with a certain melancholy that tempted a million questions to her loosened tongue.
She somehow managed to suppress the most personal ones. “Lucien?”
“Hmm?”
“Can I see your hand?”
Lucien drew back to survey her intention. Then he dropped one of his hands from her shoulder, careful to keep her steady with the other, and held his palm into the space between them.
She took his palm in both of hers and was struck immediately by the observation that his hands were so much larger, littered with flecks of scars and calluses that spoke of weapons she’d never seen him wield. The thought of it intrigued her, all the centuries he’d lived that she knew nothing about.
With a featherlight touch, she dragged her fingers from the center of his palm to the tip of his thumb. He shivered at the touch, pulsing a foreign satisfaction through her.
“Helion cut you,” she said, drawing her fingers over the healed wound, aware that he was watching her with unguarded curiosity. “I could smell your blood.”
“I didn’t think you noticed.”
Elain clenched her teeth. “It made me angry.”
“It was just a small cut.”
“I know,” she said, blinking at the healed-over skin. There was no scar to show for it. She swallowed. “But I wanted to kill him for it.”
Lucien’s voice was strained. “I don’t think that would have gone over very well.”
“Why did he do it?”
“I thought he was doing it to taunt me,” Lucien admitted. “But now I think he might have been testing you. And you did a good job hiding it—I thought you didn’t care.”
A familiar burn kindled behind her eyes. Elain sniffed. “You keep saying that.” Her fingers tightened around his. “It’s not true.”
“I believe you,” Lucien said, leaning forward to press a chaste kiss atop the crown of her head. “Let me take you to bed. That ambrosia will make you drop like a stone any minute.”
Elain shook her head, but Lucien grabbed her anyway, lifting her into his arms like she was as light as air. If she thought his scent was heady from a distance, it was nothing compared to having her nose pressed against the junction of his neck and shoulder. She took a deep inhale that she knew wasn’t subtle when his chest shook with laughter.
“Don’t mock me for this in the morning,” she said, tucking her face tighter against him. He was so warm. So solid where he cradled her against his body.
“I would never dream of mocking you, Lady.”
Liar, she thought. Or maybe she said it out loud again because Lucien snorted. She couldn’t believe that Feyre had ever believed he was incapable of telling an untruth. Of all the fae she’d met, he was easily the most mischievous.
Lucien said nothing as he carried her into one of the adjoining bedrooms, brushing aside the cloth drape to reveal a dim bedroom. She squinted, but was unwilling to raise her head from its comfortable resting place against his shoulder to examine the room in any true detail.
“I can hear your heart,” she whispered to him.
He paused when they came to the bed. She thought at first he must have been debating how to set her down politely, but the longer he stood without moving, she realized it was something else. He didn’t want to let go.
That was fine by her. He was warm. Warmer than she imagined the bed would be.
“I can fall asleep like this,” she told him, shutting her eyes. “If I do, will you promise to carry me all night?”
Lucien laughed, but he made no such promise. At least not one that she heard. The warmth was beginning to consume her, blurring at the edges of her thoughts until they fizzled away. And all that was left was the heat and scent and presence of her mate, and his steady heartbeat counting her slowing breaths as it lowered her, gently, into darkness.

Location: Gumyoji, Minami Ward, Yokohama, Japan Timestamp: 18:32・2024/04/09
Fujifilm X100V with 5% diffusion filter ISO 160 for 4.0 sec. at ƒ/6.4 Classic Negative film simulation
This photo depicts the main hall of Gumyoji Temple, located in Yokohama, Japan. The temple was originally established in 1044 and has been a significant cultural and spiritual site for the local community. The main hall, rebuilt in 1766, features traditional Japanese architecture with a distinctly curved roof now covered in copper sheeting, a transition made in 1976 from its original thatched covering.
In front of the main hall, a vibrant banner hangs from the eaves, displaying the Buddhist flag's broad vertical stripes in blue, white, red, yellow, and green. This reflects the temple's enduring connection to Buddhist traditions. The foreground includes a set of steps leading to the hall, flanked by various potted plants and a stone water basin, adding to the temple's tranquil ambiance.

Millie’s garden is ambitious, in a relatively small space she is trying to grow food and flowers, create a multi-use functional outdoor space for people and offer habitat to the wild visitors. One of the simplest ways to do this is to add water. Just like we include a diversity of plant species, offering a diversity of water points will cater for different visitors.
WATER POINT ONE:
In a small garden bed near the backdoor, Millie wants to set up a simple water pot. I am using an old copper pot, which in my experience works well as a low-maintenance pond. A small amount of copper dissolves in the water, preventing algae growth and disrupting the lifecycle of mosquito larvae. The copper means it is not suitable for fish or frogs but works well as a bath and drinking point for birds. It also offers a great little microclimate for a range of water plants.
To set up a water pot:
- Pick a position that gets at least 6 hours of sun and ensure it I relatively level
- Put a shallow layer of gravel in the base
- Place a few bricks and rocks to act as planting shelves and landing perches
- Fill with water.
NOTE If you are planning to add fish, wait at least 24 hours to ensure contained chemicals such as chlorine can evaporate, or add a water conditioner.
When it comes to plants, those that like water are as diverse as those on land, with some preferring to be fully submerged, and others just liking wet feet. In many cases, aquatic plants grow well in small pots, as they can access water and nutrients from the water around them.
All can be potted in a similar manner –
- Use a heavy sandy loam, not lightweight, bark-based potting mix.  You don’t want loads of nutrients in the mix either, as they will just dissolve into the water.
- Position the plant quite low in the container and cover the mix with a layer of clean sand and a layer of gravel.  This holds everything in place when plants are submerged.
- Add a stick to ensure safe passage in and out of the water for any small birds.
WATER POINT TWO:
As well as the ground-level water pot, Millie is keen to take her habitat game to new heights!  The boundary fence is made of ironbark posts and steel mesh, and from the window, she has observed stacks of birds use it to stop and survey the surrounding garden. That indicates it will also be a great spot to safely provide water for them, out of reach of predators.
- She attaches 2 galvanised steel brackets to a post and sits a large terracotta saucer on top.  Some silicone is used to hold the saucer lightly in position, and rocks are added to balance the bath and offer a route in and out of the bath.
- As a shallow elevated bath, this will need constant filling, so to ensure a consistent supply she installs some dripper to an irrigation timer.
- This runs 1-2 times a day to flush the bath with clean water and ensure the birds can set their watch to it.
The fence line is already heavily planted, with climbing native and exotic clematis, espaliered feijoas and even a callistemon.  But there is always space for more!  Under the drip of the baths Millie plants a native groundcover, austral bugle.
WATER POINT THREE :
The last water point offer is down low, a saucer of water placed on the ground near a habitat pipe installed for reptiles. To make the offering even more enticing, Millie plants some ruby saltbush.
We all spend a lot of spend a lot of time thinking about the garden.  Carefully planning plantings and displays, timing vegie sowing for each season, and even planning garden parties!  But the moments that fill the garden heart with joy are when those unexpected wild visitors pop in.  And there are so many ways you can ensure they have an open invitation.
Featured Plants:
NARDOO - Marsilea drummondii
SWAMP GOODENIA - Goodenia humilis
AUSTRAL BUGLE  - Ajuga australis
RUBY SALTBUSH - Enchylaena tomentosa

Cabin Inn
Tumblr media
As the car rumbled along the road, the only sound was the crunch of gravel under the tires and the occasional soft groan from Bubbles in the backseat. Mark drove with a palpable tension, his eyes scanning the dark woods for any sign of trouble. Cesar sat beside him, his worried expression deepening with each passing moment.
The isolation of the drive gave Bubbles time to reflect. The physical pain was one thing—a constant, throbbing reminder of the night’s events—but it was the emotional and mental strain that weighed heaviest on her. The secret she guarded so fiercely, the identity of the Celestial Artisan, felt like a growing burden, one that threatened to expose itself with every encounter with the Alternates.
When they finally arrived at the cabin, the first hints of dawn were creeping over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of soft pink and blue. Mark’s Hispanic friend quickly unlocked the door, and the three stepped in.
The decor embodies the quintessence of rustic charm blended with touches of '90s flair. The trio were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, illuminated by the soft glow of a wood-burning stove in the corner, crackling gently.
The living area features a comfortable, slightly worn sofa adorned with plaid throws and mismatched cushions that add a homely touch. Nearby, a large, hand-knotted wool rug in earth tones anchors the space, inviting anyone to relax by the hearth. The walls, paneled in knotty pine, are adorned with framed landscape paintings and vintage skiing posters reminiscent of the era.
A heavy, wooden coffee table sits in the middle of the room, its surface bearing the patina of years of use, perhaps scattered with a few magazines from the '90s, like issues of "National Geographic" or "Outdoor Life." Nearby, a bookshelf overflows with a mix of classic literature and popular novels from the decade, along with board games and a cassette tape collection featuring grunge and pop hits.
The kitchen is simple yet functional, with aged copper pots hanging from a handcrafted pot rack. The countertops, perhaps a bit dated, are covered in laminate that mimics the look of natural stone. They show signs of wear but are clean and well-maintained. The pine cabinets match the wall paneling, and an old, chunky microwave sits next to a spice rack filled with dried herbs and spices.
A small dining area features a round wooden table and chairs, each chair cushion covered in a floral fabric that was trendy at the time. Overhead, a wrought iron chandelier provides soft lighting, enhancing the cabin's rustic ambiance.
The bedrooms continue the theme down a narrow hallway with cozy plaid-patterned flannel bedding, handmade quilts, and thick woolen blankets. The furniture is sturdy and wood-made, with vintage brass lamps on the nightstands casting a warm glow.
The cabin's windows are covered in handmade curtains, perhaps a bit faded but clean. These curtains offer views of the surrounding woods and let in natural light that plays across the cabin's nostalgic interior.
"Wow... DAMN! I didn't know your guys' cabin you two own was nice!" Bubbles’s eyes sparkled in awe. “So much for living in 2024. It looks really nice to live in here.” She thought. “Ack–!” She winced again, feeling sharp pain shooting on her side.
Mark immediately went to the bathroom to gather medical supplies while Cesar filled a basin with warm water and grabbed some towels. They returned to Bubbles’ side and cleaned her wounds with gentle, efficient movements.
"You're good at this," Bubbles commented, trying to mask her pain with a weak smile as she observed her Hispanic friend handle the cloth.
"I've had some practice," the Hispanic male replied in a low voice. “I used to help my mom with her garden injuries while tending to our roses. I never thought I'd be doing this under such different circumstances."
The brown-haired teen rummaged through a first aid kit they found in a cabinet, pulling out some antiseptic and bandages. "This might sting a bit," Mark warned before carefully applying the antiseptic.
Bubbles tensed, her breath hitching as the solution touched her wound, but she bit her lip and bore it. "Thanks," she breathed out once Cesar began to bandage her up more professionally than she would have expected.
As they tended to her, the silence was heavy with unspoken questions and concerns. Finally, Mark broke it, his voice filled with unwavering support.
"Bubbles, you know you can trust us, right?" he asked, his voice gentle but firm. "Whatever is going on, whatever you're hiding... we're here for you, no matter what."
Bubbles looked up at them, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and fear. She took a deep breath, considering her following words carefully.
"I know," she replied softly. "And I appreciate it more than you can know. It's just... complicated."
Cesar nodded, dabbing at a particularly nasty cut. "We get it. But seeing you out there tonight and the way you handled everything... You’ve almost got yourself killed!"
Bubbles chuckled weakly. "Understatement of the year."
“Don’t wave it off!” The Hispanic friend scolded her. “You’re always putting yourself in a situation that scares us when you almost die every time! It’s not funny! ¿¡Lo entiendes!?”
"Sí, lo sé." She rolled her eyes slightly.
Mark placed a reassuring hand on Bubbles' shoulder, his expression serious. "We care about you, Bubbles. We don't want to lose you. So please, promise us you'll be more careful next time."
Bubbles nodded, her gaze meeting Mark's with sincerity. "I promise. I'll do everything in my power to keep us safe. But you have to promise me something, too."
Cesar and Mark exchanged a glance, their expressions curious. "What's that?" Mark asked.
Bubbles took a deep breath, steeling herself in case she had to do a reveal. "Promise me that you'll trust me no matter what happens. Even if things seem impossible or I make decisions you don't understand. Promise me you'll trust that I'm doing what's best for all of us."
There was a moment of silence as her words hung in the air, the weight of their implications sinking in. Mark and Cesar shared a look before turning back to Bubbles, determination shining in their eyes.
.
.
"We promise,"
.
.
they said in unison, their voices filled with conviction.
With that assurance, Bubbles felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She knew she couldn't do this alone, and having her friends' trust and support meant everything to her.
“Let’s rest for the night,” Cesar said, rising from his sofa seat. “We can worry about the sigil cards later. Bubbles can explain it to us in the morning since she knows how it works.” He nodded.
Mark nodded in agreement, his gaze softening as he looked at Bubbles. "Yeah, rest is what you need right now. We'll figure out the rest tomorrow." He helped her to her feet, supporting her as they walked towards one of the bedrooms.
The cabin, with its warm wooden walls and the comforting crackle of the fire, felt like a sanctuary from the chaos of the outside world. Bubbles felt the tension start to ease from her shoulders as they entered the cozy bedroom, its rustic charm underscored by the soft glow of a bedside lamp.
Cesar pulled back the covers on the bed, fluffing the pillows before turning to Bubbles. "Get some sleep. We'll be right here if you need anything," he assured her, his tone protective.
Bubbles managed a small smile, grateful for their care and concern. "Thank you, both of you," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "For everything."
As she settled into the bed, the soft mattress comforting against her bruised body, she felt a sense of peace envelop her. The weight of her secrets and the burden of her responsibilities were still there, but for now, she allowed herself the luxury of rest, surrounded by the quiet strength of her friends.
Mark lingered for a moment, watching her with a thoughtful expression. "Goodnight, Bubbles," he said softly before leaving the room with Cesar.
Once they were back in the living area, Cesar looked at Mark, a concerned frown creasing his brow. "Do you think she's telling us everything?" he asked quietly.
Mark sighed, sinking into an armchair by the fire. "I don't know, man. But I do know she's under a lot of pressure. Whatever she's holding back, I'm sure she has her reasons. We just need to be there for her, no matter what."
Cesar nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the flickering flames. "Yeah. We stick together. That's how we'll get through this."
They sat silently for a moment, the crackle of the fire filling the space between them. Both were lost in their thoughts, pondering the complexities of their situation and the mysterious entity known as the Celestial Artisan. The night deepened around them, and the dark woods outside the cabin whispered their own secrets.
Back in the bedroom, Bubbles drifted into a restless sleep, her dreams a whirlwind of shadowy figures and echoing voices. She was haunted by the Perpetrator's words, the implications of her own power, and the unknown challenges that lay ahead. Yet, amidst the tumult of her subconscious, a steadfast resolve formed. She would protect her friends, come what may. She was the Celestial Artisan, whether acknowledged or hidden, and she bore the weight of that mantle with a fierce determination.
Morning would come, bringing with it the need for decisions and actions. But for now, in the heart of the night, Bubbles and her friends found a semblance of peace in the solidarity of their bond, the quiet strength of their unity offering a shield against the darkness outside.

Snippet tiiiime~! Hope you like bitter things. “You insult my work when I so kindly showed you an exclusive piece, one that I, the grand and marvelous Gyokko, had created just recently?! You are blind! Foolish!” Gyokko yelled, raging so much that blood popped from the veins on his face, painting him in droplets of red. “No, you barged into my home, interrupted me in my work, stole first looks at my latest piece and then expected me to praise a disgusting beast with equally disgusting work?! You’re insane and asinine! Get out!” “You are a farce! Anyone with eyes and mind can see the brilliance of my works, they’re beautiful, as magnificent as I! You-” “I said get out!” You spat, the darkness of an incoming storm hanging in your eyes, tears even welling up in the corners. Gyokko sneered at you, a look of disgust drawn on his features. “You are no artist, you can barely pass as a work of art with that grotesque form you call a body! I’ll always be superior to you if that is what you present, what you represent! Begone!” “A filthy worm like you isn’t even worth my time.” The demon hissed, a new pot appearing in his hand, this one orange with blue swirls of varying shades decorating it. A tendril of water shot out and charged at you at breakneck speed, slashing the side of your abdomen, ripping a scream of pain from you as you collapsed to the floor, the water splitting off into two tendrils and slashing at your arms before they dissipated, a scoff following. “Even your screams have killed my appetite. How disgusting, you absolute ape.” He spat before all went quiet in your humble home, a new voice calling out to you, calling your name. “Are you here? Please tell me if you’re okay, your front door is busted open!” Mikami. “Get the medical supplies! Help me!” You screamed, a small pool of blood forming around you, the copper scented liquid smelling acrid against your nose, the pain agonizing. Your friend shrieked as she came across you, following the sound of your voice. Mikami didn’t waste time in following your instructions.
GLITCHHH THIS IS GETTING SO GOOD!! i was hooked from the first line. YEAH DRAG HIM READER!!! oh… ohhhh, shit. well. now we’re bleedin’ 😵‍💫 I’M SO EXCITED TO HEAR MORE!! i’m already so invested 🧎‍♀️

Advent Day XV ~ In the Lane, Snow is Glistening @lalamoon
Beth had promised Layla that they would do American Christmas with all the bells-and-whistles and in the same way she first experienced it, too. It helps that the morning had dawned cold and grey and wrapped in a blanket of thick fog that obscured city streets, the various harbours, and even most of the Verrazzano bridge. Beth wakes up early enough that she has the kitchen to herself. Though she's never made anything edible, breakfast isn't her purpose for being there. She takes down a specific copper tea pot inscribed with runes and fills it part way with water. She sets it on the stove and takes down a small broom made of hazel stave and birch branches for bristles. It radiates the same sweetness of cinnamon as her breath. She dances with it, not actually sweeping, as the kettle warms and only stops when it begins to whistle. A few moments later, the faint rain outside becomes a light snow fall that will continue until the day after Christmas. 'Tis the season, after all, for a little coincidental storm. By the time Layla makes her appearance ~a little groggy and with curls springing everywhere, which if Beth was honest about it, she's completely envious about it~ Beth is pushing a cup of coffee in her hand and smiling impishly. "So here da kine. We gonna start wi' coffee or chai an' pastries a' my hanai-sistah's shop. You gonna love her, really. We been bes' good friends since her freshman year a' Columbia. Mos' of her stuff is Kosher or Halal an' what no is…make you grateful for a small sin," Beth winks as if that is all the evidence needed. "Den I figure we can go shoppin' at Winter Village an' aftah, ice skating! Or we could skate first den shopping, so we don' leave our stuff unattended. Lunch…den more shoppin' at Union Square Holiday Market. We gonna wanna find dat guy dat sell roasted ches'nuts. Gonna wanna narrow down which of da half-dozen soup kitchens we volunteer at, deliver coats an' presents for da women's shelter in da kitchen, an' we're helpin out Sean Casey an' Social Tees animal rescues. Dey doin' free adoption an' spay-neuter program for da holidays. But really we can do dese t'ings in any order ja'like." She pauses as she reviews her mental list, trying to think if she forgot anything. "Oh, den dere's da big sleep. We do a giant cuddle puddle in da livin' room…right dere…" she points to the eight foot tree by the floor to ceiling windows. Some time during the night Andy had moved most of the furniture to accommodate the variety of air-mattresses, pillows, sleeping bags and blankets that they would all be using. She doesn't remember how or when the tradition started, only that it's been a feature all of her life and not one they were about to put the breaks on. "So if you nevah have pyjamas or some kine to wear, we should get you some or you can borrow a pair of sweats from Jay an' a tee-shirt from Panda…I mean…Andy." Beth pauses to take a breath again. "I t'ink dat's it, but really is up to you, ya know. Wanna make dis da bes' good Chris'mas you can have here."

Chapter 52
He slept until dawn the next day. It was a night of chaotic dreams featuring a foggy stone courtyard. The sky was grey and decadent, with snow about to come. He was wrapped in a silver fox fur coat and had a pot of wine hot. In the cold night, he can hear snowflakes falling. There were rustling sounds in the atrium. It was the Chinese New Year.
A row of red lanterns hung under the eaves. The water in a copper pot was gurgling and boiling. A blue vase was filled with two taels of green bamboo leaves. The smell of incense floated out of the golden beast furnace. The fox fur was warm and fragrant. Someone sat cross-legged on the opposite side. The fingers of the wine pourer were slender, and he couldn't see his face clearly.
Lin Yan turned over in his dream, groped for a while and grabbed a cold hand. He clasped his fingers and slept peacefully.
In the morning, he was woken up by paws. When he opened his eyes, he saw an arrogant fox sitting on his chest, scratching his nose with the tip of his tail. No wonder he felt an itch in his dream and wanted to sneeze. Xiao Yu picked it up, its four paws stretching out, revealing the belly, revealing proof that it was male.
"It's hungry again." Xiao Yu smiled wryly, "It said that if you don't buy it food, it'll go steal the chickens raised in the backyard."
Lin Yan was wearing a pair of big shorts and brushed his teeth with his upper body bare, swallowing a big mouthful of toothpaste foam in a daze.
He asked the waiter to buy another live rabbit and threw it to the fox. After having breakfast with Yin Zhou and A-Yan, the three of them, a ghost and a fox, gathered in Lin Yan's bedroom to discuss a plan of action. While talking, Yin Zhou suddenly choked on laughter, coughing for a long time, and gestured: "Do you think we look like a group of people having dinner in "My Fair Princess" and discussing big plans in the guesthouse?"
With a strange smile, the person at his side said, "Hanxiang, hurry up and show yourself. Mengdan's memory is too weak*!"
*(T/N: A reference to characters from the show "My Fair Princess.")
Regarding "Lin Yan's" previous life, Xiao Yu still couldn't think of anything. Everyone took turns questioning him, but they made no progress.
"This is very formidable." Yin Zhou sighed artificially, "We have to do it ourselves again. First, we should turn to the history books? Are there any simplified characters? Leave the simplified characters for me to read. I don't know the traditional characters."
"I have an idea." Lin Yan took a T-shirt from the box, put it on, and said in a muffled voice, "The coffin."
"What?"
He tugged at the hem of the T-shirt and waved his hands at a few people: "Hey, I'm changing my pants, and I don't think anyone should look."
He was referring to Xiao Yu, who accidentally injured A-Yan. The little Daoist was embarrassed to look up. Lin Yan was also embarrassed. It took him three times to step into his jeans before he sat on the side of the bed with flip-flops.
"I'm talking about the coffin. I looked at it when I entered the tomb. The coffin was a vivid yellow, with landscape patterns and a slight fragrance. It's genuine golden Chinese redwood. Do you know how expensive that thing is? The price of fragrant rosewood couldn't compare to it."
Yin Zhou scratched his hair: "Is fragrant rosewood expensive? My old man has a lot of it. He always holds a string of Buddhist beads in his hand."
Lin Yan rolled his eyes: "All these trust fund kids really don't know the sufferings of average people. Your father's string of rosewood is full of pear oil in its vein lines. If you drain it out, you could fill up a car."
"Golden Chinese redwood is more valuable. A piece of Chinese redwood is said to be ten thousand taels of silver. In order to save on transportation costs, Ming people would often bring carpenters to travel thousands of miles into the mountains with them. When they cut down a good tree, they made coffins on the spot. Southerners paid tribute to the whole redwood. It was inconvenient to transport, and they had to wait for the annual mountain torrents to wash the wood down. Usually, one hundred carpenters went into the mountain, and only fifty returned. The things made of this wood were impossible for ordinary people to even look at, let alone use.”
"So being able to afford such a precious thing means that the Xiao family had high status?" Yin Zhou asked, confused.
Lin Yan and the little Daoist looked at each other and said helplessly: "Code monkeys are so uneducated. Golden redwood was used by emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Qianlong, an old man, had to secretly demolish the Ming Tombs if he wanted to get some wood*. If the Xiao family had the guts to be so bold, they would have already been exiled to the Northwest to enlist in the army."
*(T/N: 乾隆, emperor of the Qing dynasty, reigned sixty years (1735-1796))
"So what's the conclusion?"
"Use your brain and think about it. There's a lot of clues available." Lin Yan slowly poured water for everyone. "Who is the person who could afford to use golden redwood and dared to rely on the fact that they had high status and the emperor was far enough away to not notice? Have you forgotten where we are now?"
A-Yan's eyes lit up: "Back then, Shen Wansan was as rich as an enemy country, and he boasted that he would reward the Three Kingdoms for Zhu Yuanzhang, which caused him to be exiled.*"
*(T/N: Shen Wansan was a merchant at the start of the Ming Dynasty who accumulated great wealth. Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was jealous of his wealth and exiled him for it)
Yin Zhou took a sip of water: "You mean the merchant?"
"This should be a breakthrough." Lin Yan said: "It's strange that there was no surname 'Xiao' among the famous Shanxi merchants in the middle of the Ming Dynasty*. It may be that 'I' really took the risk to get the wood in that life. My family may have some capital. It makes sense that the coffin is full of tokens of love."
*(T/N: Shanxi merchants were among the earliest Chinese businessmen, and their history could be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States period. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Shanxi merchants really stood out among other Chinese merchant groups, building a strong and long-lasting commercial network and accumulating enormous wealth.)
"There are many wealthy Jin merchants, and you can't be called rich unless hundreds of thousands of them exist. There are also many Confucian merchants, and every family has scholars. . ."
Before Lin Yan finished speaking, Yin Zhou suddenly stared at him with wide eyes as if he had seen a ghost.
Lin Yan felt a hand on his shoulders, and he subconsciously thought it was Xiao Yu and continued without thinking. Yin Zhou shook his head vigorously and pointed behind him: "You, you, you. . . Behind you. . . "
Lin Yan turned his head suspiciously and bumped into a boy's face. He was fair-skinned, only eight or nine years old, with a sharp chin and shining golden-brown eyes. He was on the short side, with soft hair covering his shoulders, extremely shiny.
"Who's this kid? When did he get in?!" Lin Yan was so frightened that he rushed away, staring at the boy in shock.
"Every day, I have rabbit. I'm tired of eating it. I want to eat chicken." The young man took a handful of copper coins from his jacket, threw them at Lin Yan, and said with a haughty attitude, "Hurry up and buy some chickens!"
"This is the fox." Xiao Yu said innocently, "Don't you know why I asked you to buy chickens? It's been urging me all day, it's very annoying."
Lin Yan stared suspiciously at the handful of copper coins in his hand and fiddled with them. There were Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Xianfeng coins, and a fifty yuan coin was mixed in*. The boy seemed to think that there wasn't enough money, so he took out another coin from the lapel of his shirt for Lin Yan. This time was better, a flat silver yuan coin.
*(T/N: Ancient Chinese currency changed depending on who the emperor was. Jiaqing coins were coins from the Jiaqing emperor (1796-1820), Daoguang coins were from the Daoguang emperor (1782-1850), and Xianfeng coins were from the Xianfeng emperor (1831-1861))
The boy pointed at Lin Yan, shook his head and said, "I know you. Last time when the peach blossoms were in bloom, you went into the mountain once. When you went in, you were alone. When you came out, you took him with you. Grandfather said he used to live in a deserted tomb in the mountain. Grandfather also said he was fierce, but I think he's pretty."
As he spoke, he rolled his eyes and gave Xiao Yu a wink. Because of his young age, he looked nondescript.
A-Yan burst out laughing. He took out a piece of talisman paper from his waist, but before he could paste it, the boy snatched it away, threw it on the ground and stepped on it several times.
"Don't try to plot against me. He's the oldest in this room, and then me. You are all a bunch of little kids." The boy propped himself up on the edge of the bed with his hands. He sat down with his legs dangling. His baggy homemade pants were bound by a pair of fine deerskin boots tied on his feet. He bit his fingers triumphantly and gave Lin Yan a side-eye. "I am two hundred years old. You guys should call me grandfather. Kneel down and kowtow!"
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Yan had already reacted to the horror. He took the boy's arms and dragged him to the bathroom while scolding: "Stop jumping around here. Did you brush your teeth after eating meat? The rabbit fur is so dirty. "
Through the door, the sound of the shower and the boy's unwilling wailing came from the bathroom. Yin Zhou pointed to the door with an unbelievable expression on his face: "When did this guy become a demon tamer?"
But after a while, everyone was surprised when Lin Yan and the fox demon reappeared. They didn't know what method he used, but the young man had swallowed his arrogance just now and reluctantly took Lin Yan's hand. His tail was sweeping behind him, his wet hair draped over her shoulders, biting his fingers.
"What should it be called?" Lin Yan raised his eyebrows.
"Older brother." The fox glanced shyly at Yin Zhou and A-Yan, turned around and called Lin Yan again. He jumped to Xiao Yu's side, and the boy rubbed patches of water on his white clothes.
Yin Zhou was confused by the boy's obedient appearance: "Holy shit, how did you do that?"
"To deal with the child, I lied to him that if he was obedient, he'll get to eat chicken, and if he's disobedient, he'll only get worms." Lin Yan spread his hands.
At 1:30 in the afternoon, five people checked out of the room under the waiter's reluctant gaze and rushed to the only bus station in the town. This time, it was five real people. The boy hid his tail and ears, bouncing around like a primary school student. Lin Yan forcibly took off his hunter clothes from an indescribable dynasty and bought some knockoff Adidas in the morning market. The bossy boy was reluctant, and Yin Zhou blamed Lin Yan for being stingy. Lin Yan shrugged: "I'd love to buy authentic ones, but I can't.”
Xiao Yu wore Lin Yan's clothes; jeans, a T-shirt, and hiking shoes. He was actually a bit taller than Lin Yan, but the clothes were on the longer side, so he could barely make do with them. His long hair was tied into a ponytail, like a painter's. It was the first time this ancient man dressed up like this, and he felt uncomfortable. Lin Yan also felt awkward seeing him and secretly laughed as he walked.
It seemed like it had been so long since they had all been so relaxed. Blue sky and white clouds passing, green mountains and water, creaking flatbed trucks passing by, drivers waving mulberry branches to repel mosquitoes. Xiao Yu led the fox demon down a straight dirt path. Lin Yan, Yin Zhou and A-Yan followed side by side. The boy that had just come out of the mountains looked back excitedly from time to time. Lin Yan was a little depressed. The person next to Xiao Yu should have been him, but unfortunately, the ghost refused to get too close to him, no matter what.
When lovers break up, it always feels like the other party still belongs to them, but they are separated by an invisible wall. Occasionally their gaze would cross, and he would turn his head hurriedly, his heart pounding.
When Lin Yan asked the little fox demon if there was any way for others to see Xiao Yu, he didn't actually have much hope. Unexpectedly, the boy readily agreed. He put a leaf on Xiao Yu's forehead and fiddled with it for a while. Everyone was suddenly surprised to see an extra person in their group.
"There's our fox family's magic." The boy rolled his eyes, "But it won't work when there's thunder."
Lin Yan asked, "Why?"
"I'm afraid of thunder." The boy said shyly.
"You have a name?"
The young man squinted his fox eyes, and it took him a long time to reply shyly, "My name is Che because I was born by the lake when the azaleas were in bloom and the lake was cool and clean."
Passing through the field of wild sorghum, in front of him was a flat slope of wild grass with small white flowers swaying on the ground. Lin Yan felt a sense of familiarity. He thought for a while and was suddenly surprised to find that this place was similar to the environment in his nightmare on the first night. The grass was lush, and the sun was harsh and dazzling. Walking up the road, there was only a wild grave in the place where the thatched cottage had been in the dream. It had been there for several years. The grave was almost flat, and there was a wreath of wildflowers. The flowers had been sun-dried and vaguely blackened.
"Is there any incense?" Lin Yan asked the little Daoist priest. A-Yan took out a small bundle of unopened ones from his bag, Lin Yan lit three sticks, respectfully sticking them on the grave.
"What are you doing?" Yin Zhou was puzzled. Lin Yan shook his head and sighed: "What your time comes, it will come regardless. Let's go."
At three o'clock in the afternoon, the bus to the city came. Several people crowded in to head to the city to sell hens and buy seeds and left Liumu Town. They bought train tickets in the nearest town where the train was accessible and rushed overnight to the former Shanxi Merchants' gathering place, five hundred years later, Taiyuan prefecture.

Top Trends in Sanitary Ware in Malaysia: Elevating Bathroom Design
Malaysia’s evolving lifestyle trends have turned bathrooms into more than just functional spaces—they are now sanctuaries of style and comfort. With an emphasis on aesthetics, sustainability, and technology, sanitary ware designs have taken center stage in modern bathroom transformations. Let’s explore the top trends in sanitary ware that are reshaping bathroom design in Malaysia.
1. Sustainable Sanitary Ware: Eco-Friendly Innovations
Sustainability is a growing priority for homeowners in Malaysia. Water-saving fixtures such as dual-flush toilets and low-flow faucets are becoming standard choices. These fixtures not only reduce water bills but also contribute to conservation efforts. Manufacturers are also incorporating eco-friendly materials like recycled ceramics and non-toxic finishes, aligning with the global shift towards greener living.
The emphasis on sustainability extends to smart features, like touchless faucets that reduce water wastage and toilets with self-cleaning mechanisms. These innovations cater to both the environmentally conscious and those seeking convenience.
2. Minimalist Designs for a Modern Aesthetic
Sleek, minimalist designs are gaining traction in Malaysian homes. Wall-mounted toilets, floating vanities, and frameless shower enclosures create a clean, spacious look. Neutral tones such as whites, greys, and beiges dominate, offering a timeless appeal.
This trend reflects a desire for simplicity and functionality without compromising style. Homeowners are embracing designs that maximize space and provide a clutter-free environment, essential for smaller urban homes and apartments.
3. Smart Bathroom Technology
Technology integration is revolutionizing bathrooms across Malaysia. Smart mirrors equipped with LED lighting, anti-fog features, and touch-screen controls are now must-haves. High-tech showers with customizable water pressure, temperature settings, and even music systems cater to those seeking luxury.
Toilets with bidet functions, seat warmers, and automatic flushing are another popular addition. These innovations enhance user experience while offering advanced hygiene and comfort. As homes become smarter, these tech-enabled solutions are no longer optional but integral to modern bathroom designs.
4. Bold and Artistic Fixtures
While minimalism rules, there’s also a trend towards bold statement pieces. Freestanding bathtubs in striking colors or unique shapes serve as focal points in larger bathrooms. Designer faucets in matte black, brushed gold, or copper add a luxurious touch.
Artistic basins made from materials like glass, stone, or even terrazzo are becoming popular for their ability to add character to any bathroom. These fixtures allow homeowners to express their individuality, merging functionality with art.
5. Natural and Organic Themes
Nature-inspired designs are bringing an element of tranquility to bathrooms. Materials like wood, stone, and bamboo are being used for vanities, countertops, and accents. Greenery, such as potted plants or vertical gardens, adds a refreshing vibe to the space.
Textures and finishes mimicking natural elements, like woodgrain or marble, are widely used in sanitary ware. This trend aligns with the desire for a spa-like atmosphere, where bathrooms become serene retreats from busy city life.
6. Compact Solutions for Urban Living
With urbanization on the rise in Malaysia, compact and space-saving solutions are in demand. Multi-functional fixtures, such as vanity units with built-in storage or toilets combined with bidets, are essential for maximizing utility in smaller spaces.
Corner sinks, sliding shower doors, and foldable fixtures help homeowners make the most of their limited bathroom areas. These smart designs ensure that even the tiniest spaces can be functional and stylish.
7. Customized and Modular Bathrooms
Customization is another growing trend in Malaysia. Modular sanitary ware allows homeowners to mix and match components based on their preferences. This flexibility enables unique bathroom layouts that suit individual needs.
Personalization extends to colors, finishes, and sizes, ensuring the space reflects the owner’s taste and lifestyle. Whether it’s a bold contemporary look or a classic vintage design, customization offers endless possibilities.
8. Hygiene and Wellness Features
Post-pandemic awareness of hygiene has spurred the demand for touchless technology and easy-to-clean surfaces. Antibacterial coatings on faucets and handles, UV sanitizing systems, and air-purifying features in mirrors cater to health-conscious consumers.
Moreover, wellness-focused fixtures like rain showers, chromotherapy lighting, and bathtubs with hydrotherapy functions are turning bathrooms into wellness retreats. These features promote relaxation and rejuvenation, making the bathroom a haven for self-care.
9. Retro and Vintage Aesthetics
Retro-inspired bathrooms are making a comeback. Fixtures with vintage charm, such as clawfoot bathtubs and cross-handle faucets, add a nostalgic yet sophisticated vibe. Warm metallic tones like brass and bronze complement this look, creating a luxurious atmosphere.
Paired with modern conveniences, these vintage designs provide a balanced blend of old-world charm and contemporary functionality. This trend is particularly popular in boutique homes and establishments looking for unique styling.
10. Enhanced Lighting Solutions
Lighting plays a crucial role in bathroom design, and Malaysians are embracing innovative solutions. Layered lighting—combining ambient, task, and accent lights—enhances functionality and aesthetics.
LED strips under vanities, backlit mirrors, and pendant lights above freestanding tubs add drama and sophistication. Adjustable lighting options also allow users to set the mood, whether it’s a bright morning routine or a relaxing evening soak.
Conclusion
Sanitary ware trends in Malaysia are a testament to the nation’s growing appreciation for thoughtful design and cutting-edge technology. From sustainable solutions to luxurious wellness features, these innovations are elevating bathroom aesthetics and functionality.
As Malaysians continue to seek personalized and stylish spaces, the bathroom is no longer just a utilitarian area—it’s a reflection of lifestyle and creativity. By staying updated with these trends, homeowners can transform their bathrooms into modern sanctuaries that balance elegance, efficiency, and comfort.

Whether you're renovating your kitchen or building a new one, staying updated with the latest trends in kitchen sinks will help you make an informed and stylish choice.
Here’s a look at the hottest kitchen sink trends of 2024 and how they are transforming kitchen design.
1. Statement-Making Sink Designs
Gone are the days when kitchen sinks were plain and inconspicuous. In 2024, homeowners are embracing bold, statement-making sink designs that add a touch of personality to their kitchens. Popular choices include:
Apron Front Sinks (Farmhouse Style): Featuring a protruding front panel, these sinks are both functional and visually striking, perfect for rustic or contemporary kitchens.
Geometric Shapes: Sinks with sharp, clean lines and geometric patterns are trending for modern, minimalist kitchens.
Colored Sinks: Bright or muted tones, like matte black, copper, or brushed gold, are replacing traditional stainless steel, making the sink a standout feature.
2. Innovative Materials
The choice of material plays a crucial role in the durability and appearance of kitchen sinks. In 2024, innovative materials are stealing the spotlight:
Quartz Composite: Known for its durability and resistance to scratches and stains, quartz composite sinks are gaining popularity for their sleek look and variety of color options.
Fireclay: A traditional material making a comeback, fireclay sinks are non-porous, durable, and add a classic charm to any kitchen.
Concrete: For industrial-style kitchens, concrete sinks offer a unique, raw aesthetic that’s both modern and functional.
Recycled Materials: Eco-conscious homeowners are opting for sinks made from recycled metals or composites, aligning with the trend toward sustainable living.
3. Integrated Workstations
Multifunctional kitchen sinks are a game-changer for busy households. Integrated workstation sinks are designed with built-in accessories, such as:

6. Undermount and Seamless Designs
Undermount sinks, installed beneath the countertop, continue to be a favorite in 2024. Their seamless design eliminates crevices where food particles and grime can accumulate, making them easier to clean and maintain. Additionally, the sleek look of undermount sinks complements both modern and traditional kitchen designs.
7. Environmentally Friendly Features
With increasing awareness about sustainability, environmentally friendly kitchen sinks are gaining popularity. These sinks include:
Low-Flow Faucets: Designed to reduce water usage without compromising performance.
Sinks with Recycling Compartments: Integrated recycling bins make it easier to manage kitchen waste.
Such features not only contribute to a greener planet but also appeal to eco-conscious homeowners.
8. Customization Options
Customization is a growing trend as homeowners seek unique solutions tailored to their needs. In 2024, manufacturers are offering:
Custom Sizes and Shapes: Perfect for kitchens with unconventional layouts.
Personalized Accessories: Such as engraved cutting boards or color-matched fixtures.
Material Combinations: Sinks featuring a mix of materials, like a stainless steel basin with a wooden or marble edge, are becoming increasingly popular.
9. Compact Sinks for Small Kitchens
For urban homes and apartments with limited space, compact sinks are a practical yet stylish solution. These smaller sinks often come with built-in features like chopping boards and drying racks to maximize utility without sacrificing design.
10. Minimalist Aesthetic
Minimalism continues to dominate kitchen design, and sinks are no exception. Homeowners are opting for simple, clean designs with hidden drains and matte finishes, creating a clutter-free and elegant look.
Conclusion
In 2024, Kitchen Sinks are as much about style as they are about functionality. From bold, statement-making designs to innovative materials and integrated smart technology, the latest trends cater to every aesthetic and practical need. Whether you’re revamping your kitchen or starting fresh, incorporating these modern sink trends can elevate your space and add value to your home.

Kitchen Fixtures That Will Revolutionize Your Cooking Experience
Tumblr media
The kitchen has always been the heart of the home, but with evolving technology and design trends, it’s becoming more than just a place for meal prep. Today, modern kitchen fixtures are not only enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our cooking spaces but also dramatically improving functionality and efficiency. From high-tech kitchen hoods to smart sinks, the right fixtures can transform your culinary experience. Here, we’ll explore key kitchen fixtures that are revolutionizing how we cook, and why investing in quality appliances is more important than ever.
1. Kitchen Hoods: Elevating Air Quality and Style
A kitchen hood, or range hood, is an often-overlooked but crucial fixture in any kitchen. While its primary role is to ventilate the space by removing smoke, steam, and odors, modern kitchen hoods have come a long way in terms of design, functionality, and noise reduction.
Air Quality and Safety: One of the most important benefits of a kitchen hood is its ability to improve indoor air quality. Cooking can release harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and grease particles into the air. A high-quality kitchen hood, particularly one with a powerful filtration system, helps expel these contaminants, ensuring your kitchen remains a healthy environment. Some hoods are now equipped with advanced filtration technologies such as charcoal or HEPA filters, which provide superior air purification, capturing even the smallest particles.
Noise Reduction: A common complaint with traditional kitchen hoods is the noise level. Modern kitchen hoods are designed to be quieter, using variable fan speeds and quieter motors. Many high-end models also feature sound-dampening technology, so you can cook without the distraction of excessive noise.
Smart Features: In addition to traditional functionality, smart kitchen hoods offer convenience with integrated technology. These hoods can be connected to your smart home system, allowing you to control the fan speed, lighting, and even activate automatic ventilation when certain cooking conditions are met. For instance, when you’re cooking at high heat, the fan can automatically increase its speed to accommodate the extra smoke or steam.
Design and Aesthetics: Kitchen hoods have also evolved to become a design feature in their own right. Sleek, contemporary models, made of materials like stainless steel, glass, or even copper, can add a touch of luxury to your kitchen. For an ultra-modern look, some hoods are integrated into the cabinetry or disguised to blend seamlessly with your kitchen's decor.
2. Sinks: The Unsung Hero of Kitchen Functionality
The kitchen sink is one of the most used fixtures in any home, yet it’s often the least appreciated. However, advances in sink design and technology have made them indispensable tools for streamlining kitchen tasks and increasing efficiency.
Undermount and Farmhouse Sinks: While traditional drop-in sinks are still common, undermount and farmhouse sinks have gained popularity for their cleaner lines and more efficient use of counter space. Undermount sinks are installed beneath the countertop, creating a smooth surface that makes it easier to wipe down debris and spills directly into the sink. Farmhouse sinks, with their deep, spacious basins, provide plenty of room for large pots and pans, making them ideal for home cooks who frequently prepare large meals.
Smart Sinks with Touchless Technology: Touchless kitchen faucets and sinks are changing the way we interact with water in the kitchen. With simple hand motions, you can turn the faucet on and off without ever touching the handle. This feature is especially useful when your hands are messy from food prep, as it reduces the risk of contamination. Many touchless faucets also have built-in sensors that allow you to adjust the water flow and temperature with a wave of your hand, offering both convenience and hygiene.
Sink Accessories for Convenience: Modern sinks are often designed with a range of accessories that can enhance their functionality. For instance, sink grids help protect the sink from scratches, while built-in cutting boards and colanders allow you to rinse, chop, and prepare food directly over the sink. Some high-end models even include integrated soap dispensers or trash disposals, making it easier to manage kitchen waste.
Integrated Dishwashers and Water Filtration: Some sinks now come with integrated dishwashers that allow you to wash and sanitize dishes right within the sink. This is particularly beneficial for people with smaller kitchens who want to save space. Additionally, many modern sinks feature built-in water filtration systems, ensuring that the water you use for cooking, washing, and drinking is clean and free from impurities.
3. Innovative Storage Solutions: Maximizing Space and Efficiency
Another key fixture that can dramatically enhance your cooking experience is smart storage solutions. Efficient kitchen storage is essential for maintaining organization, reducing clutter, and ensuring that all your cooking tools and ingredients are easily accessible.
Pull-Out Shelving and Drawer Organizers: One of the most innovative storage solutions available today is pull-out shelving and drawer organizers. These fixtures allow you to easily access kitchen essentials like pots, pans, spices, or utensils without digging through cabinets. With the push of a button or pull of a handle, you can access deep, hard-to-reach spaces that would otherwise be difficult to organize.
Vertical Storage Systems: For kitchens with limited counter space, vertical storage is a game changer. Wall-mounted racks, shelves, and pegboards can be used to store everything from pots and pans to cooking utensils. This not only saves valuable counter and cabinet space but also makes frequently used items easily accessible.
4. Lighting: A Functional and Aesthetic Upgrade
Lighting fixtures are another often-overlooked aspect of kitchen design. However, the right lighting can significantly improve the ambiance of your kitchen while making it easier to prepare meals. Task lighting, under-cabinet lights, and pendant lights over kitchen islands all play an essential role in creating a well-lit and functional cooking environment.
Under-Cabinet Lighting: These lights illuminate countertops and workspaces, making it easier to chop, dice, and prep food. They also reduce shadows, so you can see exactly what you're doing while cooking.
Ambient Lighting: Pendant lights over a kitchen island or dining area can add a stylish touch while providing sufficient lighting for meal prep and entertaining.
Conclusion
The Best kitchen fixtures can truly revolutionize your cooking experience. Whether it’s upgrading your kitchen hood for better air quality or investing in a smart sink with touchless technology, these modern innovations are designed to make cooking more efficient, convenient, and enjoyable. In today’s fast-paced world, having a kitchen that is both functional and stylish is more important than ever, and these fixtures provide the perfect combination of design and practicality.
