Guide to Aviator cookies and how they use magic [Bound to the skies!AU]

I've gotten into thinking about avian cookies some more these days, mainly how they work and their abilities, so here's a bit of an info dump regarding them!!

As usual with my info/headcanon posts, I'll divide this one into sections for continuity's sake (This is all AU lore but I'll still use regular cookies as an example to compare them with silly bird cookies).

Mkay so first things first, what are Aviators?

Aviators are a type of cookie found all around Earthbread, these can be identified easily, as they're smaller in stature compared to other pastries and resemble different kinds of birds based on their ingredients.

Their defining traits are caused by how these cookies are baked: the process is the same as normal cookies for the most part, then once cookie dough has been prepared it's mixed in with ingredients from different pastry recipes.

This was originally a mistake that was then integrated into the main recipe for this kind of pastry, as it had interesting effects aside from the wings.

The common ones include:

A bigger resistance to water, with Avians getting soggy at a much slower rate.

Softer dough on the outside, allowing for less crumbly bodies but making it easier to bruise and cut.

Lighter weight to allow easier flight, this due to their internal structure (The pastry equivalent of hollow bones in birds).

So there are a bunch of pros and cons of being an Avian cookie, but what about magic?

How magic works for Avian cookies

Like the average cookie, Aviators have different attack elements and types of magic they can learn to use, alongside both having a ""battery"" for magic known as mana they spend to cast spells.

However, due to their baking process and softer dough, the body of an average aviator is not as efficient at retaining mana as cookies normally would be.

This causes them to suffer from a "mana spill" whenever they use magic, and the longer they do so the more will be lost, effectively draining them of energy much faster.

The only ones unaffected are ancient beasts, the sugar swan and legendary cookies (Not all of them are Aviators), with all three being made with bodies able to contain and expell powerful magic properly.

How is the problem dealt with?

As a result of this limitation on magic, all avian cookies tend to resort to physical combat and strategize their usage of power. Some wait more than others, some use magic in small bursts to recharge, and some save up as much as they can, it all depends on the individual's preference really.

When it comes to healing, there are times where multiple healers work on one patient (If a wound is too severe and taxing to treat alone), using medical tools to make the job easiers when energy is too low for the team to continue with magic.

This is the case with broken wings and complex breaks in the dough, with the former requiring an incredible amount of precision, focus, and power to reduce the chance of complications (If the wing is not set in place properly during healing or the tecnique is sloppy, patients risks infections and never being able to fly again).

the closer we get to arcanes finale the more worried i am bc so often .. if not always .. things i like end in a way that i dislike so much it ruins everything else for me

and im so worried they pull a 'this is a multiverse' thing bc then they can say every skin is somehow canon bc its all different universes you seeeeee and jayce went mad bc he lived through all of them or something, or force it to end in a way that makes the champions end up like they are in game- Vi is a shitty cop, Jinx is just heehoo craycray bc xyz etc

Oh and the best part about the whole au hyrule is about 3,000 years old is that it only dates back to the hypothetical creation date made 50 years before the first war for the triforce (the pre sksw one) so the planet is probably older then people are thinking and yet.....

Like truly no one, not even the Deku Tree knows the day or hour the world was created, what does it feel like just being born? No one is going to know how old the planet is it just popped up one day and a very short time later everyone got malice in their hearts and tried to grab the triangles all because Hylia let it slip that it's a fragment of the trio and is borderline all powerful.

I read a lot of your posts basically saying Wilheim left Adrestia after his son's death, but is it only your headcanon or somewhere in the games?

I usually try (but then i often forget) to tag the headcanon stuff with "fodlan au" or "fodlan hc", but as for Willy leaving Adrestia, it's basically in Rhea's big "did you know Wilhelm was the greatest Emperor who ever Emperor'd" infodump speech she hits Barney and Cyril with at the end of Nopes' Nabatean paralogue!

Finally, Nemesis—the leader of the opposing forces— was defeated at the Battle of Tailtean. Having achieved his chief ambition, Great Emperor Wilhelm ceded the throne to his son, Lycaon.

Nemesis died, apparently this was Willy's ambition (uh...) and after Tailtean he gave his throne to his kid, Lycaon.

Wilhelm continued to assist Lycaon in battle.

apparently they were still fighting? JP line is this "その後もヴィルヘルムは、リュカイオンの 後見として戦場に立ち続けましたが……"

But from what I can roughly understand, Willy is still around to support and help Lycaon when he has to fight.

Important thing to note : When Lycaon is Emperor, Wilhelm is still around to "assist" him.

But Lycaon perished at a young age, and Wilhelm soon retreated into the background.

Lycaon "perished" and Willy... retreats in the background. He is not around anymore when Lycaon disappears.

JP wise we have this : リュカイオンの早世によりヴィルヘルムも 役目を終え、表舞台から身を引きました。

Again, from what I understand, it's roughly the same save that the "and Wilhelm soon retreated into the background" is more like something like "so Willy retreated into the background" : Lycaon's death means the end of Willy's role, even if we know there was a successor (the Empress who dueled an Aegir for the throne!).

Other important thing to note then : When Lycaon is no more, Wilhelm fades in the background

He relinquished this shield to Seiros, and together they returned it to Indech's workshop.

We know at least after bailing out of Adrestia he and Rhea were still hanging out and they returned Seteth's shield to Indech's hamlet, what happened to him afterwards, we don't know.

-> When Lycaon is no more, Wilhelm doesn't assist the new Emperor/Empress like he did for his son. He fades in the background. He meets Seiros and they travel again.

That's the canon.

If the order of events is a bit muddled (did he say fig to Adrestia before or after returning Seteth's shield?), fact remains that he was willing to assist and support his son - a callback to the Rodrigue-Felix duo from this route? - but refused to do the same for the Emperor(s) following Lycaon and "faded" away.
