i mean this goes back to what i was talking about a few months ago which is that a huge part of hussie’s humor in homestuck involves the soft fourth wall break. he makes the point to tell you that terezi has no idea who two-face is because terezi isn’t cribbing the coin flip thing from him, the guy WRITING terezi is doing that. also terezi’s character intro from hivebent implies she DID steal the coin flip gag from someone in alternian media

but the page where dave makes the comic reference goes back on that and implies she thought she made it up

which i had a laugh at because it’s like. well dave already knew about batman comics so he thinks it’s a reference to that. but from terezi’s point of view she DID make it up. two-face only exists because terezi did first, just like all human media and everything about the rest of the universe dave lives in. but also outside the context of the story, the author writing terezi did in fact take the gag from a batman villain. it’s funny in the lamest way for a joke to be

dave who learned imitation as a survival method....... dave getting into turntables and music mixing bc thats the one thing he can do with his bro without getting stressed out, getting into swords and ‘cool guy’ things bc when he acts like his bro and impresses him he gets hurt less, learning to act dry and emotionally disconnected from john bc john is well liked among his friends (and he likes john, too), learning to psychoanalyze by imitating rose because rose will back off if he manages to pick at one of HER sore spots for once....... dave realizing he doesnt want to be that person anymore on the meteor but not having any other method of becoming well-liked. dave imitating romcom protagonists to get karkat’s attention, becoming more and more grumpy and animated and dramatic bc of all the time he’s spent around karkat, dave’s dry humor getting more and more developed as he spends more time with rose and kanaya. dave who has a crisis (at least in another timeline) because at age sixteen he’s standing in his childhood bedroom and surrounded by interests he hasn’t pursued in years and sobbing because he doesn’t know who he is without trying to make someone like him. he doesn’t know which interests, if any, were ones he would have had if he’d grown up with a guardian that didn’t hate him, if the world hadn’t ended and if he wasn’t one of the sole survivors dedicating his childhood to creating a new universe, if he’d just been a normal kid. 

dave, age sixteen, who has no idea who he is or what he wants from life.

Sorry that this legit took so long to get to but this one and another actually stumped me a bit! But lets go ahead and talk some Honeycrisp!

It's funny but as I'm starting to go through ships, I actually find that Sollux is surprisingly moldable to ship with in most quadrants with any character with just a few characters that I think it's pretty obvi he'd be one way or another with them. Dave is one that I can actually see these two being an all-around deal. I think it's actually extremely easy to see either of them together in a red, pale, or pitch manner. Personal opinion though, I think I could see them shift from pitch to pale. However, I do understand the idea of them in red! Trying to go down a little bit of the more romantic route, Dave can somehow get Sollux to be pretty talkative when working if he says the right things. Both of them are pretty tall so there is a pretty frequent amount of them coming up behind the other and attempting to use them like an armrest just for the hell of it. Sollux's constant amount of electronic-like noises from his powers is actually fuel and used snippets in some of Dave's music. I see them being somewhat private about affections towards one another mostly because they don't feel like its anybodys business to glimpse into those parts from the outside of their lives. They're really casual about it though.

You watch in sheer, abject horror as Dave reaches up to cup Karkat’s cheek, eyes obscured by those damned sunglasses of his. He leans in to plant an oh-so-tender kiss upon the other’s waiting lips. 

You cannot even begin to comprehend what you are seeing. In fiction, you might describe this as cosmic horror - when one witnesses something so vast and unknowable beyond all comprehension, they lose their sense of reality. Nothing makes sense after that.

You’d just assumed that he was straight, had incorporated it into your worldview. The sky is blue, the sun will rise, Dave is straight. But here you are, having just walked into the room, witnessing the collapse of reality as you know it. You stand stock still, frozen in the doorway. The actors in this strange play have not noticed you there, watching like a creep. In fact, they have deepened their kiss, to the point where you wonder if they’re ever going to come up for air. Finally, you get your own mouth to work.
