Consent = F.R.I.E.S.🍟

Consent! What is it and what does it look like? There are many aspects to giving consent, it's not just about saying "yes", so why not use the acronym 'FRIES' to remind yourself of all the things to consider when giving or asking for consent.

F - Consent is Freely given: you should never pressure, coerce or force someone into saying yes to something, this is not consent. You must respect when someone says no. You should feel confident and happy when you consent to any activity with your partner(s).

R - Consent is reversible: it is okay to consent to something and then change your mind, if you're not comfortable, say so and ask to stop. If your partner changes their mind on something you should respect their choice, and if they are willing, have a conversation about their decision.

I - Consent is informed: you should know what exactly you are consenting to and your partner(s) should too. It's good to discuss specifics beforehand and what you're both comfortable with.

E - Consent is enthusiastic: when someone is giving consent consider their tone and body language. Do they sound happy, upbeat and are they being proactive? Or do they sound hesitant, reluctant or closed-off?

S - Consent is specific: when someone says yes to one activity, it does not mean they consent to other activities. If someone has consented to something in the past, it does not mean that they have consented to doing that activity again in the future, you need renewed consent.

My pet peeve about the 'I suggest forcefem' and secret egg jokes

I think we've forgotten that forcefem is an actual kink and that part of kink, even CNC like forcefem, is that anyone you're exposing to it is consenting. Random bloggers are not consenting to having your kink suggested to them, even as a joke, it's really weird and uncomfortable.

Notice how there aren't gimmick blogs associated with other CNC practices? Because people generally know it's kind of rude to go around bringing your kink to people's attention especially to 'suggest' they take part.

But I guess you're just forgetting forcefem is a kink because the idea of being forced to be a girl is either hot to you or just 'kinda funny and not serious' because it's just femininity/being a girl which has never and never will cause any harm because of how soft and pure womanhood is right?

On top of that there's a fairly large population of trans men, trans masculine and trans neutral people on here who (unless they happen to have that kink or are particularly unbothered) probably don't want to have someone go 'the answer to this issue, problem or other statement is to allow someone to force you to be a girl'.

Inciting some kind of dysphoric or uncomfortable reaction in anyone even a cis person is a huge dick move even as a 'joke'. Just because it wasn't made to be taken seriously, doesn't mean it's not someone involving unconsenting people in their kink.

In the same vein people shouldn't have anyone questioning their gender and going 'haha you're probably trans!' especially when it's mostly 'you are probably trans femme'. Tell me you don't understand or appreciate gnc men, feminine trans men or men doing anything not commonly associated with being masculine without telling me. Not everything is a sign someone is actually a girl and if it is, you might push her way back into the closet by making it your business like that.

Basically it's really rude and inappropriate to play with people's emotions like that, especially involving a kink as part of it, just because you're not bothered and find it funny.

I just read @cranberrymoons “get it off your chest” on ao3, and it’s a wonderful short fic about enthusiastic consent and everyone should go read it (if you’re 18+ and okay with explicit content of course).

But this really got me thinking about consent within fics and how we spread that information. I would love to see more fics in which we have a theme or at least an underlying point of enthusiastic consent.

Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of wonderful fics that do a good job of using dubious consent in order to teach about the importance of consent itself, and I am not shaming anyone who reads fics that contain content of dubious consent (or dead dove). I have some personal faves that have some of these tags, or other tags that are not for the lighthearted. Dark fics are my go to usually. (the importance of properly tagging your work is emphasized heavy) Fan fiction is a wonderful way to express, heal and bond through characters and often we use our own experiences (as I am guilty of this too) to write these stories. And it’s absolutely gorgeous, a part of our healing processes and sometimes just out right fun.

But there is a big opportunity being missed on not only the importance of consent, but how it can be encouraging and make sexual encounters (in real life and fiction) fun and sexy. Now I know fan fiction is a form of escapism and some would argue it’s not a teaching point, but hey everything is an opportunity to learn something new, even in our fantasies.

I’m not really sure if I’m wording this all right, and maybe it’s a bit embarrassing to be so forward about the importance of enthusiastic consent is significant to me, but I believe in being raw and honest with my followers, friends and audience. @cranberrymoons fic really made me think about how often we dismiss consent in fics, and how important it is especially in the bisexual/queer community.

There is a very specific self doubt that comes with experiencing queerness for the first time, or with a partner in general (wether they are new or not). The insistent need to feel like you have to say yes to things, or you’re supposed to say yes because you don’t know what you’re doing, or you don’t want them to question your queerness, or the worst: no one’s ever asked before. Sex should be fun, not something you feel anxious about. Fearful maybe if that’s your specific kink, and have discussed it with your partner. But it should never make feel anxious or pushed beyond your personal boundaries.

It made me incredibly happy to see a fic that had good consent content. I’m sure there are plenty of more (feel free to recommend them!) but the more the better. And this isn’t just applying to sexual content but all forms of different kinds of boundaries.

I’m sure no one really cares about my little rant, but in the end this my round about way to saying thank you to all fic writers who emphasize the importance of consent. Even if you don’t think it’s important, just know that it makes my day.

Okay so this might be outing myself on what I read but can we pls normalize asking the male in smut fics for consent too?? Like don’t get me wrong we love when the man double, triple, quadruple checks he has consent from the woman but can we pls reciprocate that?? Like in half of these fics the woman/reader just be basically jumping the poor dude without asking questions like um excuse me but I’m about to call the authorities cause I think I just witnessed an assault😀
