Summary: quick vignette about Lotus not realizing she’s in love with Ivan

Lotus is curled up at the end of the couch, her back to the couch’s arm, her legs folded up so her feet are on the couch. Connie sits next to her, facing her, with one leg bent beneath herself. As is always the case when Connie visits, Ivan has made himself scarce, which is what Connie prefers. It’s not that she can’t stand Ivan, or that she hates him, but she certainly doesn’t like him, and she doesn’t want him anywhere near Lotus. Seeing him in Lotus’s apartment - which is what she will always consider it, regardless of how long Ivan lives here - is an irritating reminder that she’s fighting a lost cause. Lotus may not have admitted to it yet, but Connie can see how much she loves him.

When Ivan emerges from his bedroom and heads to the kitchen, Connie notices Lotus perk up, her brows raising ever so slightly. She’s unfocused, distracted, her eyes repeatedly flicking to the kitchen entrance as she and Connie talk.

Ivan has to leave for work. As he walks past them, Lotus holds her arm out over the back of the couch, her hand reaching toward him. It’s a gesture without thought. Something automatic. He brushes his fingers against hers, a gentle caress. They barely touch, but Lotus’s expression softens. A small smile touches her lips, her eyes are filled with adoration. Ivan, who is generally even less expressive than Lotus, returns the adoring gaze.

And then the moment is over. Ivan is heading for the door. Lotus rotates her body so she’s facing Connie again. And Connie knows Lotus is in too deep to listen to reason.

Matt Reeves said in an interview that Rob's work in Good Time was the reason why he picked him to play his version of Batman; so with that in mind, you can not deny that he most definitely took some inspiration from Connie himself (or more especifically, his wardrobe) when developing The Drifter (Bruce's other civilian incognito persona used in the film)

headcanon prompts: dash and gwen's childhood shenanigans and anything about the wonder kids lol

this is pure headcanon so if you think it should be canon lemme know - but anyways they were each other’s first kiss when they were about nine or ten. not in a romantic context but more like “well let’s just get it over with so we’re not bad when it happens.” they both end up blushing and calling the other gross.

they shovel snow together in the winter to make some spending money. gwen refuses to talk to any of the customers so dash always charms them into hiring them.

dash was always really into valentines day in class, and every year he would make a special card for gwen. typically with a really bad drawing, lots of marker and stickers, and a bad joke about friendship.

dylan and gwen went to all of dash’s little league games. so much so that dylan actually often supplied the orange slices and gatorades. 

so many pillow forts. so many paper crowns proclaiming dash and gwen’s royalty over the pillow fort.

before cell phones, they had a set of walkie talkies they would use to talk to each other. they would always get in trouble at home for using the walkie talkies under the sheets at night.

wonder kids

in college they meet up in new york during break, rent a van, and go on a road trip to the west coast. even though they plan every second of it, it ends up being a fun disaster. they visit a lot of people along the way.

they do diets and workout plans together, pushing each other to finish them. they make smoothies together and all that crap.

whenever they play mariokart together it gets out of hand very very fast.

idk what colleges jules and connie go to but i feel like there was at least an effort to go to the same school

i’ve said this before i think but jules and connie call rosa the token straight

tbh there’s a lot of jokes at the expense of rosa’s heterosexuality lmao

“hold me back!” is something connie and jules hear a lot from rosa. they do have to drag her away from arguments from time to time.

with tubbo and ranboo making their marriage plot harder and harder for those poor wiki admins to deal with, I think there’s something that worth’s keeping in mind as we talk about the ethics of what’s going on.

the problem here is that Because of the medium they’re using to tell the story, the line between character and content creator is blurrier than other types of media. when we look at something even like the adventure zone, where we’re watching people roleplay their characters and have bits of their real personality bleed in, we still don’t have people looking at taako and kravitz’s relationship and calling it incest. because taako is an elvin wizard and kravitz is a lich, there is no point in which we think of them as being one and the same with the mcelroy brothers.

the line between “canon” and “non-canon” is blurrier in the dream smp because people aren’t strictly roleplaying at all times. this can make fan content trickier than it would be in other contexts (where’s the line between rpf fanfic and dream smp fanfic? if you’re writing a modern au where the characters are streamers is that a fun meta reference or have you blurred the line too far? that’s honestly up to personal taste and interpretation). and of course there just Is rpf in and around the fandom, which makes even non-rpf potentially uncomfortable.

there is, however, still a line.

at this point, we have to acknowledge that there is a difference between tubbo and ranboo the content creators and streamers And tubbo and ranboo the ex president and half enderman hybrid who married for tax benefits but (apparently) fell in love for real and have an adoptive child together. otherwise we have to question whether Any fan content about them and other characters is ethical on the grounds of the characters being depicted being real people.

now, before I continue I’m gonna lay out a few things

- I do think the cc’s personal wishes and comfort levels come before anything else. for instance, schlatt and wilbur are uncomfortable with there being content that ships them together, so the question of whether shipping them is ethical or not is already answered with a hard no. we should respect the cc’s when they give us a boundary.

- none of this is in the context of n$fw. that’s a totally separate can of worms and one I am answering with: personally n$fw in this fandom makes me deeply uncomfortable because of what I laid out but I am not opening a discussion for it here because I do not want to talk about it. that’s a boundary that I’m going to ask people to respect because of My comfort levels thank you.

but okay, none of this is me saying that anyone has to be comfortable with anything just because it’s Adjacent to something uncomfortable rather than a pure parallel of it. but I think the way we’ve been talking about it has backed us in a corner because of the way that canon has been going (again, thanks a lot ranboo and tubbo).

framing it Solely as an issue of shipping minors creates two major issues:

1: the disconnect between character and content creator makes this difficult both because of the ways that fiction works and because of the ways canon has gone. there’s nothing inherently morally wrong about shipping Characters who are minors (again, as long as nsfw isn’t a part of the equation) because they don’t exist. it isn’t inherently immoral to say that connie and steven universe would make a cute couple. and of course their canon relationship has created a situation where they’re canonically In a relationship that a lot of people, even the wiki, don’t feel comfortable acknowledging.

2: the more important issue for me is that on it’s own it’s a ticking time bomb for an excuse that I frankly am not ready to deal with. tubbo and ranboo are only going to be minors for so long. if the only discussion we allow ourselves to have about it is that they’re minors so it’s inherently wrong, then in a year or two we Will have people saying that they Aren’t minors so it inherently Can’t be wrong. we Need to have a more nuanced conversation so people can’t take advantage of a Lack of nuance in the future.

so here’s my hot take: content creator’s comfort levels and consent comes before all else and emphasizing the line between canon and non-canon is both a Healthier way of consuming media and will go a long way in making this conversation easier to have. moreover, you’re allowed to be uncomfortable with Anything whether or not it’s “objectively” a moral wrong. it’s okay to say that you don’t like seeing them in that context whether it’s canon or not.

Summary: Connie thinks Lotus has bad taste in men

“You have terrible taste in men,” Connie says, pointing at Lotus with her spoon.

The two women sit at an iron table outside an ice cream shop, each enjoying a small cup of ice cream in the early fall air. Lotus pauses with her spoon inches from her mouth, then sticks the spoon back in her green tea ice cream.

“What?” she asks, frowning.

“I’ll admit that I’m not a good judge of male romantic partners because I just don’t see the appeal of them,” Connie says. “But I’m sure you have terrible taste in men regardless.”

“Okay? Why are you telling me this?” Lotus asks, picking up her spoon again.

“I’m hoping maybe you’ll change your mind about Ivan moving in.”

“He’s moving in because I need a roommate and his lease is almost up,” she says, glaring at Connie. The glare isn’t entirely intentional; it’s just her face.

“Yeah, but you’re going to continue to fuck him,” Connie says, eating another spoonful of cookie dough ice cream.

“So?” Lotus stabs at her ice cream with her spoon.

“So, you have terrible taste in men. You’re a frickin’ bombshell, Lotus. You could get just about any guy you wanted, but you seem to exclusively go after guys with emotional baggage and mommy issues,” Connie gestures with her spoon as she talks, coupled with expressive movements of her eyebrows.

“I don’t date any of them,” Lotus says. “It’s just sex.”

“Ivan is moving in with you! How is that just sex?”

“I need a roommate and his lease is almost up,” she repeats. “That’s it.”

“Terrible taste,” Connie repeats. “You know you can find guys with tattoos and piercings that don’t have a fuckton of damage and mommy issues?”

Lotus snorts and an amused smile flickers across her lips, “Can I, though?”

Connie opens her mouth, then closes it. She taps her lower lip with her spoon, then says, “There’s gotta be at least a few out there. Statistically speaking.”

“Let me know if you find one,” Lotus says dryly. “And maybe I’ll fuck him too.”

Connie rolls her eyes.

Oh man, if HMT chose to compete this year, Yvonne would’ve had a solid chance to win. I have seen Ozark, Julia Garner is fantastic in it, but she’s a newcomer, Yvonne would’ve had a great shot of beating her. Oh well, too bad. At least the right person won. I like Lena Headey, but they gave her absolutely nothing to do. Say what you will about Serena’s storyline, but she was able to showcase her acting skills. Next year’s gonna be really tough with Streep and company. Sigh...

I just straight up disagree with Yvonne being in the Supporting Actress category at all. She’s not. She’s a co-star with Moss, imo. I mean, S3 made it a little more obvious that she was a supporting character but S2 was just as much about Serena, as June. I don’t understand why there can only be one lead actress per show. It doesn’t make sense. Yvonne’s got second-billing (I don’t count Fiennes cos if anybody is a minor supporting character it’s him.)

THT without her or Moss is pointless, imo. (Although, honestly, as weird as this is, I feel like it would be easier to continue without June? She’s just a less compelling, complicated character?* Whoops. I said it. Like, really, where can her story go? It has two options really. A third if you live in my head, but realistically there are two and honestly my version is pretty much just a variation of one of the two anyway.)

* (Or, this was true up to 3x04, anyway.)

Honestly, Julia Garner is fantastic. I didn’t actually even realise how good until I saw her in that other show with Connie Britton, and I love Ozark. I can’t even remember who else was nommed in that category other than GOT girls.

I’m not so concerned about Streep being competition tbh? Like, I didn’t think she was that great in BLL? But then maybe that’s cos I thought the writing for her character was pretty weak, and the directing/editing was choppy. I’d say Dern is more of a challenge, but even she got some weak shit from BLL. I’m biased though cos I thought BLL S2 was pretty crappy overall. (And I think Kidman, Witherspoon, and.... Jane would all be considered leads, yeah?) (I don’t wanna talk about Kravitz cos holy shit did they screw Bonnie over and I have personal... gripes about Kravitz cos a friend worked with her and ...yeah. Not a fan.)

Not that it matters what I think cos the Emmys and I never agree on anything, lbr. I clearly have no ability to predict anything.

this is a call out @ me since the vampire industry characters are loosely based on taz characters

but anyway obviously oscar and lenore are taako and lup respectively. jude was initially kravitz but he’s not ipre so otherwise he’d be magnus (still fitting). camille is lucretia (but director lucretia more than ipre lucretia), connie is barry. violet does not really have an ipre counterpart but i could maaayyyyybe see her as a davenport? especially after the latest live show where dav showed off how good he was at dealing with taako’s Horse Shit.
