Regulus was terrified. Not when he battled his parents, nor when he was alone at seventeen finding a place to live; not even when Sirius left had Regulus ever been this fearful.

He had been dating James for a month, barely. Yet, here he was, besotted with the warmth that was James’ attention. The only word that Regulus could think of that would ever come close to his devotion for James was love. It remained unspoken, hanging between them like a delicate thread, until today.

Regulus had walked this exact route countless times before. Whether it was the weight of apprehension or the suffocating grip of desperation, the journey seemed interminable. He took a deep breath and arrived at the edge of the forest where he was to meet James.

To his both delight and nervousness, his beautiful, breathtaking, sun-reincarnation of a boyfriend was already there, waiting for him. The second James caught a glimpse of him, his whole face lit up with the most gorgeous smile, melting away Regulus’ anxieties.

Hurrying over, James cradled Regulus’ face in his hands with a tenderness that Regulus knew was reserved just for him.

“Hi, you look lovely,” James whispered, planting a gentle kiss on Regulus’ forehead.

Without hesitation, Regulus leaned in closer, wanting to be as close to James as possible.

“I love you.” There it was; the confession that had been lingering on the tip of his tongue for weeks, the overwhelming feeling that he had been so apprehensive to address out loud.

James captured him in a kiss and latched his hands onto Regulus with veneration. “I love you too,” he murmured, without daring to separate their lips by a single inch.

Prompt from the Summer 2024 @gingerrose microfic event @gingerrose-hub

Lo and behold, unlike yesterday's attempt, at 283 words this is an actual microfic :)

Rose slumped down on one of the flat rocks the boys had arranged around the campfire. One of the boys anyway, the one who cared about decorum.

Hux handed her a pot of coffee, but the moment she had accepted it, the man’s hand shot up to her face and stroked the unruly hair out of Rose’s face as if it constituted an offense to him personally.

“We don’t want you to look like your Wanted notice”, he said with a smile. “What did you learn in town?”

“We know where Ren went, but still no proof that he works with Palpatine. If we follow him, this may yet end a wild goose chase.”

Hux nodded.

“That’s all you have to say?”

Another nod, then a deep breath and finally a confession:

“I was thinking of what will happen after we have apprehended Ren. This alliance between a Marshall and…”

“Scurrying vermin?”

“Yes, between the scurrying vermin Dameron and Finn, but also with you, it’ll end. And the moment it does, I’ll have to arrest you. Then you’ll swarm me and I’ll take at least one of you down with me before the end…”

The Marshall slid off the rock he was sitting on and moved closer to Rose, sitting down on the ground next to her. Marshall Hux. Sitting on the ground.

Given their differences in height they were sitting back to back now, thick skull to stubborn skull, feeling the other breath, taking in their distinctive scent (along with a whole lot of trail dust). Looking into opposite directions, they were seeing the same scene in front of their inner eyes. Inevitable. And the setting sun was dying the prairie red.

I just realized Saiki is basically that post "Nope: the anime./The Diary of Protagonist-chan."

Like pink-haired protagonist who wants to live an ordinary normal life and is desperately trying to avoid being stuck in main character situations, in a satire/parody comedy making fun of anime tropes? That's literally Saiki. He'd be best friends with Mika Otohime/Protagonist-chan. She just wants to be nornal but oh well, if she does have to be around superpowered OP people at least she's around a guy who's basically just like her. Also for some reason I imagined her proposing to him by getting down on one knee and offering him a coffee jelly lol.

"I really want a new Star Trek show that's completely unrelated to anything. I liked that LWD seemed unconnected even as it made mention to other things naturally, but as they go, they keep pulling in other shows and characters. The confessions about DISCO (294 and 283) are so valid because Discovery would have been so better completely disconnected from Spock and even Pike. Yes, I like SNW, but I want something new like how the shows from the 89s - 00s were all new groups. Maybe something between ENT and DISCO where Archer's history and Kirk, Pike, and Michael aren't on the radar yet. There's nearly 100 years between the two to cover. Or even between Picard and the 32nd Century, which has even more time to cover. Not everything needs to tie so tightly to everything else."

Suddenly, all the implications of what the bright sunlight means—shades thrown wide open, snipers on top of buildings, long-range lenses shooting them in their most private moments—sends icy bullets through his chest. Several years later, Henry is still working through the trauma of their forced outing. Alex helps him.
