!!WILD THEORY!!
After seeing two Liam analyses posts in row, including that one sent here about him being a follower, I think it's time I offered my own wild theory. Someone else pointed out how he never actually says the word "freak" on screen yet, even when given the opportunity (idk did he say it in that comic book episode set in freshman year I can't remember-), which I didn't actually notice but it kinda backs up my own speculation.
Basically, I'm thinking what a twist it would be if he was actually the fourth member of Max's band who couldn't make it due to the whole drama with Drew and Jake. There's like, two other pieces of evidence I have for this, but hold on.
One thing I did notice is how he makes unprompted song references twice, like with the whole Stacy's mom bit being a line from a song. Then there's that bit in the finale where he starts reciting Justin Bieber like prose when imagining Jake apologising to the club. I feel like he knows what he's referencing when he says it, and though it could just be for joking purposes idk if any other character does it quite like him. Also if he used to be a scene kid, apparently there's also a music subculture for that so... idk he might've been interested in being in a band in the past. It was certainly a choice to include that in his lore.
There's also the minor detail of Liam having has phone out during THAT scene in episode 9, which got highlighted later twice: one in a spoof vid Rosy made of the episode, and the other a deleted scene from a video on her second channel. Basically it's what would've happened if Jake hadn't brought up Zoey cheating, though it got scrapped in favor of more drama it seems. Liam gets accused of recording the audio himself since he had his phone out, to which he insists he was texting someone, however when asked he deflects by saying "your mom". Like... that makes you look sus still why won't you say who you were texting? It'd clear your name further, but ig he knows Henry and Drew already trust him.
I think in typical Liam fashion he might be trying to soften the damage going on in his group right now. Imagine learning another of your friends joined a band behind your back, right after breaking off your friendship with the first? I doubt Liam resents Drew, quite the opposite actually, but he'd never tell him about joining a band since their friend group literally bullies one. He probably schedules around his sessions with their friend group to attend band practice after school and hopes he never gets found out. Then after Jake joins the music club and it all goes downhill for the Jomies, he starts to worry about getting spotted at the band competition.
I also feel like aesthetic-wise, he'd probably fit in with all the blacks and reds of Max's band, though I doubt he wears the same clothes. If the gamer gettup he currently wears isn't truly reflective of him, then I imagine he has a different band persona. I like leaning into the association he has with vampires cos yknow. It fits the vibe and it's cool.
Anyway, do with this idea what you will. I already have scenarios in my head about what goes down, but I like to think that someday Liam will leave his phone unattended and someone will see the messages from Max and friends. Or he'll get confronted in the hallways about why he couldn't show up to the competition, and the truth will be revealed in front of everyone :D
Sidenote, but unlike Henry Liam's never tried to sing onscreen. And since Max appears to be scouting out Jake after the credits, it might be that he's in desperate need of a singer. Which... Tbh if Liam can actually sing too, that'd explain why seems the most sympathetic towards Jake's deal with the club.
[long-ish post finally over. will elaborate more if people want]

I think people in the tmf fandom are extreme about drama in the community, they latch onto little bits of information and blow it out of proportion to make a creator or character seem rlly bad,,, I rlly dislike it and it makes me upset :( if you don't like someone leave them alone bro, don't gotta go sayin they sexualize minors and being misogynistic and stuff :/
This is simply from an outside perspective as a creator myself, I've never gotten myself into any drama in the community (thank god) but literally everywhere I turn someone's attacking someone like calm down get a life ong
And then the way people blow the characters out of proportion is crazy 😰 why are we idolizing bullying and then making all the hurt characters horrible people... hello.. and all the female characters are hated on so bad. All of it just rubs me the wrong way ig,, people gotta clear some stuff up in their head a bit.

Augh I know that theres probably a bunch of stuff in this blog thats this post rewritten, but I HAVE to get it off my chest.
I am a drew hater, I dont think he was in the right, nor was he written well. BUT. I cannot stand when fellow drew haters completely invalidate the arguments he made and how he felt, and frame him as a one dimensional bully. It makes me livid, quite actually. No, being an emotional teenager is not an excuse to bully someone, however rosy very clearly wants him to be something more than the “s1 school bully antagonist”, and the fact that he IS an emotional teenager shows that.
He has depth. Ive read most of the analysis on drew on this website (its still the only website I can without finding Drew glazers) and it has been such a breathe of fresh air. People respect that depth and rosy’s intentions with the character, while also recognising their faults. I’d say my favourite analysis’ come from @rosypenguins and @pastara-cell (back when scor did them.) , theyre worded well, and frame him character well without making him seem completely innocent
Also, i’d lowkey be kinda pissed if my best friend told me my girlfriend was cheating on me. Idk. I hate him but I get him sometimes. He’s relatable and has depth, and I dont blame people for liking his character.

I love Hailey as a character but she is written awfully. She constantly acts so out of character for herself that its hard to see what her values and beliefs are, even when theyre stated outloud.

Whenever people make those tmf reactions videos, and they make Drew a “singer” I get so irrationally mad.
Like bro, make him a song WRITER. Then you don’t have to explain weird gender bends if you use a really high pitched female singer. And you can still get weird angst. Like it’s write there (heh 🙂).
Also singer x song writer if you ship Drake goes crazy.

i hate when people hate on hailey for being “too sensitive”.. SHES 17. does every 17-year-old have everything together?? does every 17-year-old make the right choices like it’s a piece of cake?? NO. you guys hate hailey for being sensitive after being relentlessly bullied for her passion but i swear if she was a man the fandom would do a 360 on her 😭🙏🏼 leave my girl alone…
actually all the characters are so young and most definitely aren’t mentally mature 😭 yes, drew is a bully. no, that is not an excuse. however, is he going to be that way forever? NO!!!! their mistakes will let them grow oh ky gosh 😭😭
moral of the story: don’t stereotype people based off of how they act when they were young, just because u wet your bed when you were 6 doesn’t mean u still do… right??

God I love how much of a follower Liam is. Gotta be one of my favorite things about him, it's so fun.
Let me put it this way: Whenever the jomies start making fun of someone or engage in any of their usual asshole behavior, Liam is never the first one to do anything. When Drew, Henry, and Liam enter a scene, he is never going to be the first person to speak. Drew or Henry will always talk first. Hell, there's even a scene where Liam and Drew approach Jake, and even though Jake specifically apologizes to Liam, Drew is still the first of the two to actually say anything. Really the only time I can think of where Liam is the first to say something in a scene is the whole "She saw my donation message" scene from episode 9, but even though the audience is entering when he says this, the group's clearly been talking and hanging out for quite a while, since Zoey exclaims they she's bored only a minute or two later.
Once you notice it it's actually fun to keep track of, at least for me. A good, clear-cut example for what I'm talking about is Liam only messing with the Music Club's equipment after Henry does. Another example is when Drew makes fun of Hailey and calls her Jake's girlfriend, and Liam follows it up by asking Zander about Luke and calling him Zander's boyfriend. Or in the comic episode, when Drew initiates the bullying of Hailey, Henry joins in and steals the notebook, then Liam joins in as well. Even in the climactic scene where Zoey, Lia, Drew, Henry, and Liam all gang up on Jake, Liam only follows once he's sure everyone else is in agreement and opens his opinion with "Henry's right". Liam always waits for someone else to do something first before following along, and I love it.
I know some people characterize Henry as the slightly less extroverted or the more easily embarrassed one out of the two of them, but to me it will always be the other way around. To exemplify this: Liam absolutely hates the old pictures of himself from middle school and fears what they'd do to his reputation, but Henry likes the cosplay pictures Liam has of him. Hell, Henry sings Baby by Justin Bieber at the top of his lungs in the middle of the lunchroom. Henry is anything but socially unconfident, whereas Liam does seem to be a bit shier in that aspect (not that I'd ever describe either of them as shy, being slightly shier than Henry is nowhere close to actually being shy haha). Liam seems to worry a bit more about what other people think of him than Henry does.
Along with all that, Henry immediately makes his interests pretty obvious. Anime and visual novels are two things we know for certain he loves, and he also has a strange interest in lettuce and a lettuce-themed idol. He's so open about these things that Jake is made aware of them within only the first few minutes of meeting him. Liam isn't quite the same. We know that he wants a girlfriend, sure, but Henry has an obvious equivalent of that in his pursuance of Lia. We never even see any of the girls Liam supposedly likes. And for someone who wears a shirt with a literal videogame controller on it, he is the person who talks about and plays videogames the least out of all the jomies. Jake and Drew have gaming nights, and we see them playing together live and in pictures. Henry, as previously stated, proudly proclaims his love of visual novels, but Liam? We know he knows enough about the videogames Henry plays to talk about them with him, but other than that we've got nothing. Liam's interests are mostly left up to interpretation. He probably likes videogames since he wears a shirt themed around them, and he might be into sports, since he does play soccer with Jake and Drew. But Liam never goes out of his way to actually mention having an interest in any of these things, so those are just guesses. He's not even the one to bring up his only known past interest in dressing scene, Henry does that.
Liam is just mostly reactionary throughout the series. He's way more likely to go along with whatever topic is already being discussed than bring up something he likes. (Of course, this gives me the freedom to completely make up interests for him, which is almost more fun anyways so oh well, now I can just decide he has a romance novel obsession and no one can stop me haha). We overall just know way less about him as a person and that is so fun.
All of this has led me to believe that, if Henry and Liam were to leave Drew for whatever reason in season 2, Henry would have to be the one to do it first. I genuinely cannot see Liam ever taking a step like that without knowing Henry was with him on it. Then again, Henry seemed really torn up about Jake's whole thing in the finale, so I'm not sure he'd be able to actually pull the trigger either. But I still think he's got a way better chance than Liam, since he's a little bit more independent in his thinking. When Jake and Drew argue and have their little break up, Henry tries to intervene, but Liam does not and actually seems panicked at the idea that Henry is doing so. Liam only actually speaks after Drew leaves and it's clear Henry's not going to speak up again.
Drew, as we've seen, can function in an important scene without Liam and Henry, and I think Henry could manage a solo scene as well if he needed to (even if seeing him without Liam would be a little off-putting honestly). But I'm not so sure for Liam.
This isn't to say I think Liam's character is as reliant on other characters as, say, Luke, he's still got his own personality. But Liam is written in such a way that it's clear he was originally never meant to be his own independent character separated from Drew and Henry, and that's so fun from an in-universe perspective. If the Luke fans get to hope Luke has an identity crisis arc, I get to have this /lh.
(I AM SO SORRY THIS GOT SO LONG. This was meant to only be a little ramble-y but I got excited)

I’m a big fan of people giving Liam random vampire traits. He has a terrible sleep schedule and sleeps more during the day than at night? Yeah, that checks out. He sunburns easily? Makes sense. He has sharp K-9s? Duh. Halloween is his favorite holiday? I could’ve guessed. He’s good at just appearing places and disregarding physics entirely? Cool. He’s got pointy ears? Hell yeah, go for it.
It’s just so fun and silly I love it. I also love that every other character gets an animal assigned to them, but for some reason Milly is just. The literal devil and Liam is a vampire. It’s so random yet also makes total sense.

Y’know I think that the design for Liam before he was friends with Drew in high school is really fun and a little overlooked.
Since no one has seen Liam’s “cringey scene phase” in middle school except Henry, we can conclude that Liam met Drew fairly recently in the flashback scene of episode 9. So this is what Liam looked like before him and Drew actually became close friends.
And yes, I will be the first to admit Liam’s freshman year haircut does look silly. But I wonder if there’s a little bit of a hidden meaning there.
Before he met Drew, Liam’s hair was in his face and he wore a baggy sweatshirt. After he knows Drew for a bit, his hair is out of his face and he starts wearing a T-shirt (with a vest thingy over it).
This made me wonder if, much like with Jake, being friends with Drew ended up giving Liam a lot more confidence (Think Violet’s hair from The Incredibles, where her being more confident is symbolized by her not hiding behind her hair anymore). Or at least it made him act more confidently.
Honestly I’d kill for an episode where we see Henry and Liam become friends, because now I both headcanon that Henry befriending Liam gave Liam more confidence and that Drew did the same thing afterwards. I would love to see what he was like before those two things, if I’m right.
