I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if you're going to modernize an historic home, this is how to do it. Stunning 1878 condo (?) in Detroit, MI. I guess they divided this huge mansion up. It's still a large home with 3bds, 4ba, $2.5M + $224mo. HOA.
So, this is the impeccable unit for sale. Loving the brick walls.
Fully original stairs.
Wow, look at the sitting room. Is this the height of elegance? Love how they left the stained wall above the fireplace.
The fireplace in the dining room is gorgeous.
The kitchen is stunning- look at the fireplace.
Guest half bath.
The upper floor landing has space to sit.
Bd. #1 has an en-suite.
And, look at this. This unit has the turret. What a place to sit.
There's only a glimpse of the floor tile, and it's fabulous. Love the sink vanity and marble top.
The fireplace is gorgeous in bd. #2 and it also has an en-suite.
Bd. suite #3 has beautiful brick features and that rounded stained glass window.
The basement is beautifully finished with a little bar.
Whoever did this reno and staging really did a great job. This is amazing.
There's even a shower down here.
And, there's even an office/gym space.
Outdoors, a small porch comes down to a private patio for the unit.

When Amber and Wilson get together and she makes him choose a mattress, she tells him it's because she wants him to be himself and not only to please her. And then, when House and Wilson move into the condo, House encourages (bullies) him into putting effort in the furnishing of their home, to take up space and find things that bring him joy (maybe because he wants Wilson to enjoy the place as much as he is enjoying it) and the only thing Wilson actually chooses is an organ (?) something he knows House will enjoy/play continously, the thing Wilson brought to their home was House's music.

i keep thinking back to a quote by some architect who was arguing that the most sustainable architecture is the architecture that doesnt get torn down bc we will be (hopefully) constantly finding newer, cheaper, more efficient, ways of being "sustainable" so trying to make the most sustainable building is a moot point. in 5 years it will be outdated & if all it has going for it is "was once a very sustainable building but isnt anymore" well. that isnt much. the point was that the architect was saying that classical/romantic architecture (often considered very beautiful & worth saving which i could get into but that a whole other thing) is sustainable bc of its beauty. bc of the value we put on it. bc we dont want to erase or tear down things we find beautiful or important. i dont really have an end thought but im just musing on the importance of beauty & how aesthetic value can extend itself into material value & also how beauty (infinite) is hoarded by the rich as if it is a finite source. inch resting

Here's an old 1889 school converted into condos in Pittsburgh, PA. I think that this is much better than trying to make it into one big single family residence. And, it's affordable. The 1bd, 1ba unit is $235K + $211mo. HOA.
This would be the main lobby. Look at all the stairs. Kind of an interesting layout for a school.
One of those staircases must lead to this 2nd fl. unit. This is the living room, which is a large space with lots of windows.
If this was decorated, it would be lovely. Some color, pretty furniture and plants.
They have a small TV area set up in this corner next to the kitchen.
Spiral stairs go up to the loft bedroom.
I wonder if this unit was one big classroom where they built walls and a loft. Or, it could've been 2 classrooms. I went to a very old grammar school and the classrooms were very large with high ceilings.
You can see the bathroom from here. So, those stairs would have to be navigated in the middle of the night. I wonder if they would allow the owner to put a half bath up in the loft.
I love the kitchen. The oak cabinetry, black counters and that tile. The backsplash is gorgeous. I've never seen those colors- they're very vintage looking and so different.
That tile is stunning. I also like the black sinks.
The shape of the island is lovely, and you can easily fit a table in here.
The bath is just a standard 3 pc.
And, here we are in the sleep loft.
I don't care for this- there's no enclosed closet. I would want to enclose it and put a toilet and small sink in the corner.
Each unit has it's own utility closet with room for a small washer/dryer.
