Concept: metroidvania with one of those "you begin with endgame gear and do a tutorial fight with it before losing all your stuff due to Plot" segments, except the player Hero and the Demon King "final boss" suffer mutually inflicted cutscene death at the end of the fight.
Now you're playing as the Princess you were meant to rescue, armed with whatever gear you could loot from the corpses, escaping the Demon King's Cursèd Citadel backwards – starting from the endgame biome – while the place falls apart around you thanks to the demise of its load-bearing boss.
The central gag is you notionally have endgame gear, but most of it has no obvious application to what you're up against, either because of the Citadel's ongoing collapse, or because the Hero's puzzle solutions on the way in were stupid, and you have to deal with the aftermath on the way out.
Though there'd be some gear progression, much of the map would be knowledge-gated by the need to figure out unintended applications of your existing gear. Any required interactions would be tutorialised, but you could freely break sequence if you know about them before you're "supposed" to.

Dwalin’s Regal Armour by Edward Denton
“With the green theme in his armour Peter looked at Dwalin's battle axe and suggested that we should give it blades that were made out of greenstone, or jade. In New Zealand it is called pounamu and it has cultural significance and value. The Maori people, native to New Zealand, carve it into jewellery and also make weapons out of it. It's a beautiful stone, translucent and with flecks and veins of colour through it, so it made for a very eye-catching weapon. People from outside New Zealand probably wouldn't catch the reference, and the films are fantasy after all, but for those of us who know what greenstone is and its specialness here it was cool to see Dwalin wielding an axe made of it.
A dagger for Dwalin came through as a fairly late request, but having just designed his greenstone axe it made sense to have it match“.

>Heavy inspiration was Chronos from that same game. You can see it in the hourglasses and sash design like his in-game sprite.

>Initially i was just going to throw him in a cosy generic nightgown with nightcap - there needed to be at least some sleeping (bed ref) element in the design. It leant towards something form-fitted for fighting. It feels more jesterly and trickster-like now.
