This article from The New Yorker is about what is going on in China. It sounds like Xi is repeating the mistakes of those that came from before him.

I find it so strange that people from the global north will call countries oppressive or tyrannical and not have any sympathy for the people living in those countries due to that, and often actively consider them monstrous or subhuman due to their government oppressing them. Like, when people from the global north call other countries dictatorships, they're not doing it to paint the people living there as victims, which is very strange to me.
Take this as a reminder that living through oppression is something incredibly traumatic, and not a moral failing. I didn't think this would be something that I had to remind people of but apparently it is.

For the record I just want to say I liked xiaohongshu before the tt ban, and I have always fw chinese people. I am really happy and excited about the cultural exchange happening rn!! I feel hopeful that the bond between citizens will supercede any oligarchy and shatter the propaganda they make to keep us apart. I love the people of China. I love Liberal, leftist, democratic and (most) libertarian Americans. I love people and they deserve to be free whether they want to be or not.

I live in Zheng Fa and am the law enforcement from that country working for Interpol. How does this make us the lapdogs of a country we don't live in or have any associations with?

Duped, Pt. 2 – China
youtube
A lot of people want you to be angry about China seemingly being a competitor to American economic dominance, but it's a lie.
Reason being, how do you think that China has managed to be the economic power that it has become?
American politicians decided that nothing needs to be actually manufactured in this country and passed laws that made it prohibitively expensive to built things like televisions and whatnot here.
This wasn't done as a sop to the Chinese economy.
It was done to undermine the move toward unionization and facilitate the United States becoming a country based entirely on entertainment and information technologies.
And it goes without saying that some things, like automobile manufacturing, will have a foothold in the American economy but tell me, can you name a television manufacturer from this country?
I bet you can't.
But a weird thing happened, namely the Chinese didn't play the game elites in the United States believed that they would.
Instead they not only continued to make everything, they also made moves in entertainment and information technologies.
In other words, arenas 'we' reserved for ourselves.
So now not only are Chinese companies dominating in the physical production of most consumer technologies, they're making inroads in information technology AND the chips and devices that it needs to exist.
And we're, as in the United States, are pissed because the Chinese are seemingly beating us at our own game.
So if you're really angry about all the Chinese products you own, put the blame where it belongs.

South Korea’s perfect storm - and no one’s at the helm
South Korea stands at a precarious crossroads where economic challenges, security concerns, and shifting diplomatic alliances are converging in ways that could define its trajectory for years to come. On top of that, it’s dealing with a political crisis and potentially a looming presidential election where the candidates match the U.S. election’s lack of real choice.  In the past, South Korea…

Go Back to China (2019) dir. Emily Ting. 7.4/10
I would not recommend this movie to my friends. I would not rewatch this movie.
Anna Akana is acting this out well. So is the role for Dior.
Can you believe their names are Christian and Dior?
Sasha has such a stuck up white girl attitude but also you see her dad and you're like hm. Who do we even like in this movie? (at least in the beginning). Sasha's home friends kinda suck too ngl. Except they did come through for the dolls at the end.
The camaraderie amongst all these half-siblings is beautiful. Can you believe all the trauma this dad is causing? But, also the betrayal amongst the siblings.. I do like the full circle moment of this movie. I do like how human this is. Like everyone has their faults and their ups and downs. This feels very representative Asian America (although with a bit more white girl vibes), but the dad was portrayed great imo. More human than some dads, but good portrayal nonetheless.

Saw this on my fyp on youtube... what the fuck? The chinese, while being a little shifty, didn't do anything wrong. They didn't intentionally start covid. The 'spy' balloon was probably just a test for god knows what. AND MIGHT I ADD.... HALF THE SHIT WE HAVE IS FROM CHINA. You're clothes, yup. Made in China. Your toys? Those too! YOUR NAIL POLISH, YOUR GLASSES FRAMES, YOUR FUCKING COUCH THAT YOUR LAZY ASS IS SITTING ON RIGHT NOW, WAS MADE IN CHINA! I'm so sick of people picking on the Chinese. It's stupid.
