Just this week, I had to interact with extremely racist rhetoric about Asians with a de-ager that genuinely put me in a bad spot mentally, but i dud it becayse i thought that person coud be educated. Since 2021, I've had to watch as droves of people commented & replied & posted racist, xenophobic, biphobic arguments about JayJon simply because they didn't enjoy teen Jon. Arguments saying Jay, who in the story is an immigrant freedom fighter, is a terrorist. Arguments saying Jon right now is better off dead which mocked teen Jon fans for finding any aspect of Jon's bisexuality relatable.

I've been trying to be polite & mostly keeping my thoughts offline the wider Internet & public platforms for YEARS. I know of multiple POC (specifically Asian) Jon & Jay stans who have had to go inactive or delete accounts, because certain people have decided even EXPRESSING, merely saying you like Jon as he is now warrants a witch hunt & microaggressions which they assume is "harmless" because they're unwilling to examine any of their own biases. On top of that, rn many queer DC creatives are also constantly getting harassed and literal war criminals are being upheld as good writers, purely for fanon ship reasons.

Do you have any idea how fucking tiresome it is, to fight conservatives who want my meager rights gone online spewing homophobia because Superman came out, alongside comic fans who gladly take up similar arguments just to get their headcanons to be real? Do you have any idea the mental toll it takes, seeing a character who represents real life struggles of fighting against colonialism who LOOKS so much like thousands of queer POC kids, be called a terrorist & a villain because he is in love with a white character?? Not for any grand reason. SOLELY because he's paired with Jon.

Why should we be nice & polite when all it has gotten me in return is trying to explain to people that hey calling freedom fighters terrorists in a story about US hegemony and saying the bi rep is "not correct" is just fuelling bigotry?

1. What made you ship it?

The Calliope episode of The Sandman. Just seeing Dream and Calliope interact... *screams* they have such good chemistry despite being divorced lol.

Also, the fact that despite everything, Dream still immediately came to help her. He still obviously cares for her and I lose my mind every time I watch the episode.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I guess I slightly said above. But I like how much of a power couple they are, an Endless and a Goddess is pretty cool.

Also, the fact that it is pretty much canon that they were good parents to Orpheus 🥺 (there's a comic panel of Calliope saying that Dream was a good father)

And going by the show, hypothetically, I think there's still enough there that could bring back their relationship. I'm not saying like canon to the show, but I'm saying their dynamic to me seems like they could work through their problems. (They just need a lot of couple's therapy /j)

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hmm... honestly the Dream x Calliope fandom isn't big enough to have unpopular opinions if that makes sense. But I guess maybe this is more of a personal gripe, but why is this ship so less popular than others despite actually being canon at some point?

1. Why don’t you ship it?

It's too popular to the point where it's basically everywhere in the fandom and you can't escape it. Also, I don't like Hob Gadling. I'm also not fond of the ineffable husbands comparison, all because they're two Neil Gaiman characters that sit at a table a lot.

2. What would have made you like it?

Well, if better ships didn't exist I guess. And I feel like some parts of Hob's character could've been handled better if you know what I mean. Also, not every relationship has to be a romantic one.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

I've read a couple of dreamling fics that were very well written.

I'm not as familiar with the ship, but I've watched a bit of the old X-Men cartoon and I like their dynamic.

12 Apriltello has been my current hyperfixation (there!!! I said it!!) and I've also read the TMNT 12 comics which shows April's interaction with the turtles (the fact that donnie never called her "my sweet chinchilla" or "my sweet princess" in the comics but just a simple "hey April!" I like how much of that side see this and they really don't care about the interaction between this two, I'd swear they really don't read the comic where Steve calls Bucky his son, and Buck said Steve reminds him his father; 👏 well, there's no slash in 616 [that never born in 616], just the form they try to became a father-son (even mentor-student) feeling into gay, like try to destroy: Logan-Laura, Peter-Miles, Carol-Kamala, Tony-Riri, Jan-Nadia, even Ben-Peter or Johnny-Franklin. ¿Do they really read comics?

Every interaction is based on Steve sees Bucky like is son [it's canon that] and Buck sees Steve like a father-brother mayor [it's canon that too]. It was amazing giving Cap a little son sidekick little brother, even when Bucky back, Steve calls him "kid" because for a mentor-father his son is his son.

The sad thing is seeing people who believe in movies go to comics and discover that everything is different. I wish they just keep where they born, in movies, just that, their slash ship doesn't exist in 616, Cap and buck called each other father, son, and brothers; trying to ruin that just because they are obsessed with mcu is like trash. Keep in mcu, the only material where they can do everything they want, bc if try to ruin the true in comics, is ridiculous and sad.

I'd like to add, too, that for many people, thinking outside the box like this, considering how two characters who barely interact might fare in a relationship together, is a big part of the appeal in shipping in general. The show/movie/game/etc doesn't always have the time or the need to place a great focus on two specific characters' relationship, so of course it's up to the fans to come up with their own interpretations and headcanons if they think they'd have an interesting relationship.

Honestly, for Kuzusouda specifically, I think SDR2 could've benefited from some more, meaningful interactions between Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko and actually gone somewhere with their relationship beyond Kazuichi's panic over Fuyuhiko getting hurt in Peko's execution. I'm not saying that Kuzusouda should've been canon, because it's not, it never will be and I'm absolutely fine with that, but it would've been nice for their friendship to have had more focus, especially since it could've been a nice way to give Kazuichi more development and make him far more than just Comic Relief Character #11037.

However, I know that everything's said and done and that Danganronpa is a completed franchise, and I've accepted long ago that Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko's canon relationship is very minor and ultimately unimportant in the grand scheme of things. That's why I instead indulge in fanon and write fanfics that do expand on their relationship.

Ultimately, as long as you know and accept that your ship isn't canon or highly unlikely to ever be canon, there's absolutely nothing wrong with shipping non-canon ships. Hell, I'd say that people should still ship Kuzusouda all they want if Kuzupeko is canon, as long as they understand and accept that Kuzupeko is canon and that their Kuzusouda content and headcanons are pure fanon.

Random Person: Why do you ship X/Y? You know there’s no canonical basis behind it/they’re enemies/they’re only best friends, right?
